MICHAEL JOE MAYNARD, 63, of Ashland passed away Friday April 1, 2016 at his home. He was born June 24, 1952 in Kenova, WV. He was preceded in death by his wife Marcia Ann Coburn Maynard. GARY RAY PERDUE, 70, loving son, brother and uncle, of South Point, Ohio, formerly of Kenova, W.Va., passed away Friday, April 1, 2016 at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va. He was born December 25, 1945, in Kenova, a son of the late James Daniel and Helen Marie Hitchcock Perdue. Gary worked for CRS Trucking as a truck driver. He was a graduate of C-K High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving his country during the Vietnam War era. He is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Danette (William) Shirley; one niece and her husband, Cheryl (John) Jackson; one nephew, Billy Shirley; one aunt and her husband, Ronnie (Beans) Cantrell; his special friend Kim Linkous; and a host of other family and friends. Graveside services will be conducted at noon Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East with Rev. Mike Lucas officiating. There will be no visitation. EVERETT LEE KITCHEN, 77 of Wayne W.Va., passed away, Friday, April 1, 2016, in Cabell Huntington Hospital. He was born October 5, 1938, in Huntington, W.Va., the son of the late Morton and Elizabeth Sanders Kitchen. He was a 1957 graduate of Huntington East High School, U.S. Air Force Veteran, a retired Foreman with a Chicken Ranch in Colorado, and later was self-employed providing home improvements. In addition to his parents, Everett was also preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Anderson and Gloristine Light and one brother, Willie Ray Kitchen. He is survived by two daughters, Carletta and Sandra; three sons, Charles, Roger and Mark; three sisters, Audrie Graham (Phillip), Geraldine Wilisch and Maxine Loudermilk, all of Huntington, W.Va; one special friend, Joyce Mathis of Wayne, W.Va. A Celebration of his life will be conducted at noon on Thursday, April 7, 2016, at the Wayne Senior Center, Wayne, W.Va., where food and fellowship will be provided and side dishes or desserts are welcome. American Legion Post #93 Kenova, W.Va., will provide military honors. Memorial donations may be made to the Wayne Senior Center. GLADYS G. ULLOM, 81, of Hurricane, W.Va., passed away April 1, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack L. Ullom; parents Henry and Blanche Perry; sisters Lucille Damron, Jewell Walters and Ernestine Watts; and brothers Keith Perry, Christopher Perry and Charles Perry. She is survived by her daughter Jaqueline Wood of Hurricane and brother Donald "Bob" Perry of Salem, W.Va. Gladys was a retired Credit and Office manager for West Virginia Electric for 60 years, and they were her "Second Family." She was a Christian and loved by all and will be forever missed by those who knew her. At her request, a private memorial service was held by family on Sunday, April 3, 2016. BARBARA JANE URBAN SMITH, 73, of Huntington, W.Va., passed away Saturday, April 2, 2016, at her home to go live with her Heavenly Father. She was born October 15, 1942, a daughter of the late Arthur F. and Mary Jane Gordan Urban, in Charleston, W.Va. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one grandson, Tanner Reed Edwards. Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Jeani Heck of Kenova, W.Va., and Kelly Dawn (Carl) Edwards III of Huntington, W.Va.; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Dale Urban of Louisville, Ky., and Eddie (Shelly) Wikel of Winfield, W.Va.; 17 grandchildren, Ian, Christy, Michael and Tori Urban, Kala Urban and Haley Heck, Erin, Billy, Darian, Jeremy, Destiny, Dezeria, Ella and Isaiah Wikel, Tyler, Travis and Gracie Edwards; eight great-grandchildren, Chevy, Cameron, Mason, Noah, Eric, Dalton, Dylan and Brilee; one sister and brother-in-law, Susie (Jimmy) Allen; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, John (Sandy) Urban, Jeff (Sarah) Urban and Mark Urban; three step-daughters and one step-son-in-law, Sonia (Eric) Freeman, Donna Hutchinson and Valerie Kelly; five step-grandchildren, Donovan and Stephanie Freeman, Lauren Moore, Jessica Hutchinson and Jered Robertson; one step- great-granddaughter, Paisley Schwartz; and a host of nieces and nephews. GARY DALE PETERS, 75 of Chesapeake, Ohio, passed away April 2, 2016, at home. He was born February 23, 1941, in Wheeling, W.Va., to Glen B. Peters and Pearl L. Peters. Gary attended Huntington East High School and enlisted in the US Air Force from which he received an honorable discharge. Gary loved being outside and had a passion for fishing. Gary always said a bad day of fishing was better than a good day of anything else. Gary was a pipefitter and belonged to the Pipefitters Local #521 for over 50 years. He retired in 2005, from which he remains in good standing. He is preceded in death by his mother Pearl Peters and great-grandson Spencer Fogle. Left to cherish his memory are his father Glen B. Peters; brother Steve Peters and wife Janice of Michigan; daughters Angel Lake and husband Bobby, Susan Peters, Evelyn Peters and son Doug Peters; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren along with a host of nieces and nephews and his dear friend and caregiver Debra Lear. Funeral services will be conducted at noon on Wednesday at the Reger Funeral Chapel by Rev. Tom Hysell. Burial will follow in Peters Family Cemetery, Fort Gay, W.Va. EPPERSON "E.C." MAYNARD, 92, of Huntington, went home to be with our Lord on Sunday, April 3, 2016. Graveside funeral rites will be on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Spring Valley Memory Gardens by Pastor Jerry Matt. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 93, Kenova, WV. E.C. was a veteran of the US Army having served in WWII he was an Army paratrooper serving with the 504th Parachute Infantry Co. B; He was awarded the Purple Heart. He retired from American electric Power. He was a 3rd Degree Mason and member of Huntington Lodge #53 AF&AM for over 50 years. He was born on August 5, 1923 in Wayne County, WV, the son of the late Jay and Sadie Scaggs Maynard. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Burgess Maynard. He is survived by his beloved sister Loreen (Sis) Maynard of Huntington, three children Deborah Kay Rogers of New Port Richey, FL., Brenda June Kramer of Ashland Ky., and David Clark Maynard of Huntington, WV., nephew and niece Larry and Lisa Maynard both of Proctorville, Ohio, four grandchildren Michael Wesley, Stacy Leavines, Christopher and Jeremy Geise; five great grandchildren Katelyn and Christopher Leavines, C. J. Geise, Ben and Sam Wesley. There will be no visitation. Reger Funeral Home is assisting the family. American Legion Post 93 of Kenova will conduct military graveside rites. MARY RUTH McCOMAS, 85, of Kiahsville, W.Va., took her heavenly flight home on Monday, April 4, 2016 at St. Mary's Medical Center. She was a homemaker and a member of Freedom Freewill Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family, who cherished many years of memories with her, and got one of her greatest pleasures taking care of her beloved dog Digger. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob McComas; son, Mike McComas; parents Noah and Martha Ross; brothers Elmer, Denver, Noah Jr. and George; sisters Nellie Jean Ross and Louise Elkins. She is survived by one sister, Frances (Earl) Burgess of Branchland, W.Va.; one brother Robert (Margaret) Ross of South Point, Ohio; two grandsons, whom she helped raised, Michael McComas of Bluffton, S.C., and Bobby (Kasey) McComas of Louisville, Ky.; five great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends who will miss her dearly. The family would like to thank the 6th floor oncology staff at St. Mary's and the staff of Lincoln Nursing and Rehab for their love and care. ROSALIE CLARY CHADWICK, 88, of Kenova, left this world to walk into the arms of her Lord on Monday, April 4, 2016, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky., surrounded by her family. She was born Oct. 14, 1927, in Huntington, W.Va., to the late William and Bernice Clary. She was also preceded in death by her son, Gary Dale Chadwick, and her sister, Marcella Bryant. Rosalie worked early in her marriage at Sylvania, but chose to become a full-time homemaker with the birth of her children. She devoted herself to making a loving home for her family and raising them to love the Lord. She was an accomplished seamstress and cook. Rosalie had a generous spirit, often going out of her way to provide a home-cooked meal or care for someone in a time of need. As a lifelong member of Madison Avenue Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), she sang in the choir, praising God with her beautiful voice for many years. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 65 years, Carl Chadwick; a daughter, Jeanette (Michael) Billups; grandchildren Aaron (Sochill) Billups and Allison (Ryan) Kazee; great-grandchildren Elijah, Blaine and Harrison Kazee, and Brooks Billups, expected in May. She will also be missed by her nieces, nephews, cousins and especially her "baby" dog, Stewart. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 7, 2016, at RegerFuneral Home in Huntington by the Rev. CHESTER LEE ADKINS, 67, of Wayne, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 4, 2016. He was born August 17, 1948, a son of the late Hobart and Leota Adkins. Chester worked in drywall. He leaves behind his loving wife, Deborah Lynn Adkins; seven children, Leigha (Thomas) Walls of Martinsburg, W.Va., Mirisa Adkins of New York, Beth (Roger) Boley of Genoa, W.Va., Trish Rowe, Verna Vaughan, Hansford (Misty) Bowen, all of Wayne, and Sherman (Misti) Bowen of Lavalette, W.Va.; 19 grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Charles (Ruby) Adkins of Hedgesville, W.Va., and ernie (Linda) Adkins of Barberton, Ohio; two sisters, Hope (Hassel) Rife of florida, and Bonnie (Cliff) Maynard of Wayne; two special friends since childhood, John and Brenda Perry of Wayne; and a host of family and friends. funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Johnson Tiller funeral Home with Brothers Jesse Adkins and Jerry Casteel officiating. JOHNNIE MUNCY III, 37, of Wayne, W.Va., died Monday, April 4, 2016 at home. He was born March 19, 1979 in Columbus, Ohio, a son of Barbara Jo Muncy and the late Johnnie Muncy, II. His sister Angie Chapman also preceded him in death. In addition to his mother he is survived by one son, Johnnie Muncy, IV, of Ohio; brothers Jeffrey (Misty) Muncy of Lavalette, W.Va, Jesse (Debbie) Muncy of Tennessee; two sisters, Shelly Muncy (Biz) and Mary Place, both of Ohio; girlfriend Elese Hargadon of Wayne; and a host of friends and family too numerous to mention. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home with Pastor Danny Stapleton officiating. Private burial will be held in Ohio. DIANA SUE PIERCE, 69, of Proctorville, Ohio, passed away on April 5, 2016. She was born on February 28, 1947, in Huntington, W.Va., a daughter of Arthur Edward Frazier and Verla Beatrice Ward. She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter Leah Denise Pierce, her sister Vicky Denise Evans and her fur babies Chubbs and Missy. Sue leaves behind to mourn her loss her husband Paul Pierce; her children Paul Arthur Pierce (Sherry) and Tara Sue Pierce; her brother Milford Frazier (Kay), Sarah Caldwell-Banks (Skip); her grandchildren Josh Samuel Pierce, Mary Ellen Pierce, Ava Paige Pierce and Jameson Lee Harvey; and her fur babies China, Sassy and Shadow. She was a cook for the Wayne County Board of Education and a member of the American Legion Post 93 Women's Auxiliary. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ceredo-Kenova Funeral Home. FLORA ADKINS, 68, of Wayne, WV, passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington, WV. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2016 at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, with Pastor Johnny Jackson officiating. Burial followed at Gerald Adkins Cemetery, Wayne, WV. She was born May 25, 1947, to the late George W. Vanover and Julia M. Lowe Vanover. Flora previously worked as a CNA for Wayne Continuous Care and was a member of Canada Chapel Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by twin sister Lora Ann Vanover and sister Florence Simpson. Survivors include her loving husband of 48 years, Glenn Adkins, daughter Michelle Ferrell and husband Joe, sons Darrell Adkins, David Adkins and wife Robin all of Wayne, WV, and Randall Adkins of Lavalette, sisters Betty Irick of Wayne, WV and Fannie Watson of Toledo, Ohio, brothers Arnold Vanover and wife Barbara of Rolla, MO and Paul Randall Vanover and wife Jeani of Paintsville, KY. She is also survived by six grandchildren, T. J. and Seth Adkins, Cody and Jordan Tabor, Jessie Ferrell and Abbie Adkins. Flora opened her door to whoever was in need – often calling the kids that gathered and stayed her "lost boys," which were Daniel, Charlie, Adam, Tony and Josh. In loving memory of my husband, my best friend and my heart JOHN HENRY RICKMAN SR., 62, of Lavalette, W.Va., passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at his residence. John was born on November 2, 1953 in Huntington the son of the late Thomas and Lois Ward Rickman. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother and sister Thomas Rickman and Ellen Mae Varney. John was a member of the Prince of Peace Freewill Baptist Church and a retired shipmate. He is survived by his wife Deborah Beckett Rickman; sons and daughters in law, John Rickman Jr. and Rhonda of Lavalette, W.Va., Bill and Tina Rickman of Ceredo, W.Va. Daughter and son in law, Misty and Jeff Mink of Lavalette, W.Va. Step children, Brian Maxey, Johnathan Maxey and Kimberly Adkins. Grandchildren: Ashton Rickman, Cassie Crum, Devon Rickman, Austin Mink, Tyler Day, Blake Day, Nathan Day, Breann Maxey, Emily-Dawn Taylor, Demi Rickman and one great grandchild, Kylie Crum. RONALD LEE ALLEN, 64, of Wayne, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 9, 2016, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, with Pastor Fred Ferguson and Pastor Rick Perdue officiating. Burial will follow at Stiltner Cemetery, Wayne with graveside rites conducted by Wayne Lodge #18 AF&AM. Ron was born on August 22, 1951, to the late Bellvard and Lucy Allen. He was the husband of the late Glenna Kay Napier Allen. He was a member of Wayne Baptist Church, Wayne Lodge #18 AF&AM, Eastern Star and Royal Arch. Ron was a retired welder from Marathon in Catlettsburg, Ky. Survivors include his three children, Rhonda Kay Ferguson (Chans Fortner) of Huntington, Susan Lynn Allen of Lavalette, Christopher Lee Allen and wife Beth of Wayne; five grandchildren, Emily Shea Ferguson (fiancé Cory), Morgan Kay Ferguson , Cole Jacob, Ethan Thomas and Mollie Brooke Allen. He is also survived by two sisters, Lila Vaughn (Elmer) and Barbara Jean Scaff (Hillary) and several loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, parents and sister Marilyn Allen. MELISSA ANN ELLIS, 38, of Catlettsburg, Ky., died April 7, 2016 at home. Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, Ohio. CLAUDE EMMITT STROUD, 73, passed away on Friday April 8, 2016 at Dunlow, WV. Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m. Sunday April 10 at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, WV with Brother Emanuel Ferguson officiating. Burial will followed at the Troy Maynard Cemetery, Dunlow, WV with military graveside rites conducted by American Legion Post #93. Claude was born on December 4, 1942, in Dunlow, WV, to the late Thomas and Perva Marcum Stroud. He was preceded in death by the mother of his children Donna, daughter Carrie and granddaughter Rosie. He was a Vietnam veteran serving in the US Army and an assembler for Lennox Industries for many years. Claude was always the life of the party, sure to bring a smile to your face. Claude enjoyed NASCAR racing, bluegrass music, playing poker and being with family. He spent most of his adult life in Columbus Ohio but his heart was always in West Virginia. Survivors include his son and daughter in law, Christopher Dean and Staci Stroud of Columbus, Ohio, two grandchildren (Scarlet, Grayce), four sisters Jean, Wilkie, Maxie, Sharron, three brothers Roy, Elton, Gary and a special companion Joy. Visitation was held two hours prior to the service on Sunday.

IREDA KIRK MARCUM, 88, of Wayne, died April 9, 2016, at Wayne Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wayne. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Ray Williamson. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Wayne, W.Va. She was born March 26, 1928, in Breeden, W.Va., a daughter of the late Walter Kirk and Ethel Browning Ferguson. Also preceding her in death were four brothers, Arthur and Bill Kirk, George Riley and Wayne C. Ferguson, along with a sister, Bradys Brumfield. Survivors include four brothers, Clarence E. Ferguson, James Alvis Ferguson, Luther Ferguson and Gene Kirk; two sisters, Avonell Moore and Virginia Parsley. Friends may call from noon until service time Tuesday at Morris Funeral Home.

JANICE OSBURN WHITE, 70, of Hamlin, W.Va., went to her heavenly home on Saturday, April 9, 2016, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington. She was born May 9, 1945, to the late Gorman and Seay Asbury Osburn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Nolan "Gene" White. Janice enjoyed going to church, taking care of her grandchildren and being with her family. Those left to honor her memory include one daughter, Keree Janene White Racer and son-in-law William A. "Andy" Racer of Hamlin, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Levi Andrew, Benjamin Luke, Amelia Caroline and Avery Elizabeth Racer, all of Hamlin; one sister, Gerrie (Lonnie) Ward of Milton, W.Va.; three brothers, Bernard (Ruth) Osburn of Mount Airy, N.C., Alpha (Donna Jean) Osburn of Bristol, Tenn., and Ershel (Constance) Osburn of Grandin, Mo. MERVILLE TIMOTHY HOWARD, 56, of Kenova, W.Va., passed away Sunday, April, 10, 2016, at his home. He was born January 25, 1960, in Huntington, a son of the late Merville C. and Ruby Mae Hazlette Howard. He retired from the Keebler Company where he had worked as a truck driver. He attended the Maple Street Church of God. Timothy was a member of the Teamsters Union. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Ray and John Lee Howard and two nephews. He is survived by one brother, Charles A. Howard of Kenova; one sister, Connie Sparks of Morehead, Ky.; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends; and a special friend of 15 years, Wanda Adkins of Lavalette, W.Va. Visitation was from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at Rollins FRuneral Home, Kenova. There will be no funeral services. There will be a private family burial at a later date. WALTON BRUMFIELD, 82, of Wayne, WV, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2016 at his residence following an extended illness. Walton retired from Owens-Illinois Glass Factory after 42 years of service and was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was also preceded in death by brothers Flem, Johnny, and Bostic Brumfield. Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Zelma Smith Brumfield; a sister, Jennie Curry (W. RICKY ALLEN FANNIN, 46, of Kenova, W.Va., passed peacefully on April 11, 2016, surrounded by family and friends. He was born July 31, 1969, the son of Ronald and Nancy Fannin. He was a dedicated husband and father to his wife of 23 years, Bridget A. Fannin and son Hunter Kade Fannin. He was employed at Koppers, Inc., for 25 years. Rick loved hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. He enjoyed spending time with his family at their cabin in Pocahontas County, W.Va., built himself with friends. Rick could often be found tinkering in the garage or working in the yard, busying himself with teaching Hunter how to prune a tree or work on the lawn mower. Rick was a member of the Kenova #110 AF&AM Masonic Lodge. He took pride in the tradition and being able to pass it on to his son, Hunter. He is survived by his mother and father, Ronald and Nancy Fannin; sister Rhonda Fannin Burks (Thomas Mills); niece Kayla Burks; nephew Garan Lyons; sister-in-law Stephanie Lyons; mother/father in-law John and Diana Lyons, Bill and Patricia Knoblock, as well as many special family and friends. Rick was proceeded in death by his grandparents, Aunt Ruthie, and Daisy. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House for their care and beautiful view of the river. In addition, the family is thankful for the great care of the nurses and doctors over the past few months. Rick and his family were blessed to have so many friends and family who visited, helped with errands, and sent their positive thoughts and prayers during his short illness. ELDON LEE MAYNARD, 79, of Chesapeake, Ohio, passed away Monday, April 11, 2016, at home. He was born June 9, 1936, in Wayne, W.Va. He was preceded in death by his parents Kiah and Irene Maynard; two sisters, Loretta Layman and June Snyder; and one brother, Walter Maynard. He was owner of Maynard's Masonry. He was a retired Brick Layer from Brick Layer Local #5 and a retired member of Chesapeake Fire Department. He was a member of Proctorville Masonic Lodge #550 F&AM and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason Valley of Cincinnati. PHYLLIS JEAN JOHNSON, 80, of Huntington, widow of Robert Lee Johnson, died Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at St. Mary's Medical Center. She was born July 17, 1935, in Booten, Wayne County, a daughter of the late Audie and Ruby Bradshaw Stiltner. She also had a daughter, Deborah Ann Fry and a brother, Roy Lee Stiltner precede her in death. She was retired from Owens Illinois. He was a watchmaker, jeweler and manager for Parkers Jewelers in Huntington, and retired from Pollocks Jewelers in Ashland, Ky.. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Rita and David Hatfield, and Carolyn and Greg Kuhn, all of Huntington; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Jean Kimler of Holden, W.Va.; six grandchildren, JoBeth Kuhn, Ryan Hatfield, Jennifer and Chad Ball, Michael and Julie Kimler, Mark and Leslie Kimler, and Regina and Donnie Robinson; two great-grandchildren, Lyla and London Ball; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. LILLIAN V. SMITH, 86, of Huntington, West Virginia, passed away peacefully at St. Mary's Medical Center on April 18, 2016, and went to be with her Lord and Savior and reunited with her loving husband of 60 years, James Smith. Lillian was born in Wayne County, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Alex and Nancy Salmons. She was also preceded in death by her brothers Debrel and Alex Salmons and her sister Anna Mae Wellman. Lillian leaves behind her loving daughters and sons-in-law Charlotte Smith, Vicki (Ken) Halstead, Jamie (David) Stratton; granddaughter Lexa (Jamie) Woodyard, grandsons Craig and Wesley (Brittany) Halstead; great-grandsons James, Jacob and Joshua Woodyard. She is also survived by her brother Drexel Salmons; her nephew Ron Clark and her many dear friends. Lillian was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother who was known as "Nan" and great-grandmother who was known as "Nanny." She was a homemaker and devoted herself to making a loving Christian home for her family. She enjoyed spending time with her family and helping others. For sixty years, Lillian truly loved and served the Lord. She attended First Altizer Free Will Baptist Church. She maketh fine linen and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant. Strength and honor are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. Margie was born on March 8, 1928, in Wayne County, W.Va., the daughter of the late Elliott and Bethena Riggs Staley. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Carl Leo Mays, one son Steven Mays and two brothers and eight sisters. She was a graduate of Wayne High School, a member Buffalo Valley Missionary Baptist Church and attended Jefferson Avenue Church of God. She retired from Fosters Memorial Home. She is survived by her two sons and daughter in law, Doug and Donna Mays and Joseph Mays; two grandchildren and spouses, Shaun and Sheena Mays and Melanie and Scott Slayton; six great-grandchildren, Dakota, Emma, Kylie and Kaylee Mays and Kinley and Khloe Slayton; one brother and sister, Freelin (Opal) Staley and Sue (John) Lewis. VERL ELDRED CHILDERS II, 73, of Wayne, W.Va., passed away Friday, April 22, 2016, at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington, W.Va. Verl was born October 11, 1942, in Huntington to the late Verl Eldred and Ruth Walker Childers. He was a member of the Wayne Lodge #18 AF&AM. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Childers. Survivors include three daughters, Susan Prys (Jeff), Shelley Childers (Melissa), all of Charlotte, N.C., and Ashley McCarthy (Bill) of Nashville, Tennessee. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Stephen, Alex and Emily Prys and Alex Roeder, Andrew and Samuel McCarthy, and his special lifelong family friend, Ed Heck. VIOLET RAE PLYMALE GALLAGHER, 93 of Nashville, Tenn., formerly of Huntington, W.Va., died April 23, 2016, at Summit Hospital, Hermitage, Tenn. A retired schoolteacher, she was born April 26, 1922, in Hubbardstown, W.Va., a daughter of the late Robert O. and Shirley Tucker Plymale. She was the widow of Lt. Col. Kenneth N. Gallagher and a graduate of Vinson High School and Marshall University. She taught at Westmoreland and Kellogg schools and was active in Westmoreland Baptist Church for more than 40 years. She was preceded in death by sisters Roberta Schwartz, Bernice Sanborn and Joyce Ward. Survivors include a sister Dorothy Lovins; two sons, Kenneth S. Gallagher and Daniel B. (Karen Christenson) Gallagher; two daughters, Kathleen (Whitney) Kemper and Dr. Roberta Gallagher; two grandchildren, Gwendolyn Gomez and Whitney Kemper Jr.; and four great-grandchildren, Diego and Vivian Gomez, and Jio and Hiwa Kemper. DOUG "MACK" BOWEN, 72 of Fort Gay, WV formerly of Lawrence County passed away Saturday April 23, 2016 at his home. Doug was born Aug. 5, 1943 at Clifford, KY the son of the late Liss and Mirinda Burke Bowen. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a daughter Angela Bowen Marcum and two sisters Dolly Copley Crum and Elizabeth Accord. Doug was a carpet installer for many years. Bob was a member of American Legion Post 93 of Kenova, Marcum Chapter #61 OES, Crescent Lodge #32 Masons, Beni Kedem Shriners, Scottish Rite Freemasons 32nd degree, US Navy veteran of WWII, dedicated volunteer for several community organizations in his Westmoreland neighborhood and retired from Chandler's Plywood Products with 50-plus years of service. BARBARA FAYE MOORE, 63, of Genoa, W.Va., passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2016 the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. She was born April 7, 1953 in Huntington, Va., a daughter of the late Chris and Edith Maynard Brumfield. Her husband Charles Moore also preceded her in death, along with one brother, Boyd Brumfield, and two sisters, Judy Brumfield and Blanche Brumfield. Barbara retired from J.J. Jordan Geriatric Center in Louisa, Ky. She leaves behind one son, Michael (Melissa) Moore of Louisa, Ky.; one daughter, Crystal Moore of Genoa; and one grandson, Justin Ramey, also of Genoa. Also surviving are five siblings, Christopher Brumfield, Jr. of Crum, W.Va., and Charles Neal (Wanda) Brumfield of Soper, Okl., Debra (Larry) Maynard of Genoa, Danny Brumfield and Roger Brumfield, both of Crum; several nieces, nephews, and many friends. CUBA QUEEN ROSS, 79, of Mobile, Ala., formerly of Wayne, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 27, 2016. She was born November 28, 1939 in Lincoln County, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Willie and Anna Toppings Queen. Her husband of 54 years, Earl G. "Pug" Ross also preceded her in death along with three brothers, Alvis Queen, Arlie Queen, and Floyd Queen. Cuba was a homemaker and a member of Laurel Freewill Baptist Church. She leaves behind four daughters, Diane Keesee and husband Allen of Mobile, Ala., Delana Ball and husband Randall of Kenova, W.Va., Brenda Merritt, and Sarah Wyke and husband Steve all of Mobile; 11 grandchildren, Robin Gene Wilson, Donna Jean Keesee, Dixie Louise Keesee, Kathy Napier, Timothy Earl Rose, Russell Todd Rose, Jessica Mae Carman, Ladessa Gail Swain, Renee Cuba Siegle, James Wesley Booth, and Zachary Alan Merritt; and 26 great grandchildren. HELEN GRACE SMITH CYRUS, 98 of Raleigh, N.C., formerly of Kenova, W.Va., was called to her heavenly home Saturday, April 30, 2016, in the Duke Raleigh Hospital. She was born July 2, 1917, in Spencer, W.Va., a daughter of the late Bert and Lee Bitha Simmons Smith. She was a retired sales clerk from Stone and Thomas. Helen was also a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Kenova and a member of the OES Marcum Chapter #61. She was also a long-time volunteer at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Besides her parents she was also preceded in death by her beloved husband Joseph R. Cyrus. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law. J. Robert Cyrus (Linda) of Durham, N.C.; two grandsons, Joseph R. Cyrus Jr., of Austin, Texas and Thomas Cyrus of Raleigh, N.C.; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
