LOUISE RASH, 86, of Huntington, widow of Jack Rash, passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2016. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, October 8, 2016, at 11 a.m. at the Westmoreland Baptist Church by Dr. C.J. Adkins. Burial will follow at Spring Valley Memory Gardens, Huntington. She was born September 16, 1930, in Huntington, a daughter of the late Edwin Felix and Mary Francis Pinkerton Ward, and was a lifelong resident of the Westmoreland Community. She was a graduate of Vinson High School and Marshall University, having earned a B.A. in Education and a Master's degree in Counseling. She began her teaching career teaching typing and business machines at Huntington High School and spent the remainder of her teaching career as a counselor at Vinson High School. Louise was an accomplished seamstress and quilter, an avid reader and was passionate about contributing her time and talents to the Westmoreland Woman's Club and Westmoreland Baptist Church. She also supported veterans' and children's groups through her contributions. Louise was a member of the Eastern Star and joined the Westmoreland Woman's Club in 1992 where she held the office of president from 1996-1998. She was president of the GFWC WV Southwestern District in 2002 and GFWC Southwestern District Conservation Chairman from 2004-2006. Louise was also a member of Westmoreland Baptist Church. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Norma Ilene Moncer, Helen Virginia Smythers and Shirley Ann Hite, and brother, Kenneth Eugene Ward. Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Mike and Lynn Rash and Roger and Pamela Rash, all of Huntington, and Greg Rash of Louisville, Ky.; grandchildren, Joe Rash and Becky Rash Burns, Andy and Robbie Rash and Sarah and Phillip Rash, and six great-grandchildren, Brayden, Callista, Zane, Allie, Aaron and Jack Rash; sister, Donna Sue Farrell of Ona, and brother, Edwin Austin Ward of Palm Bay, Florida. Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Friday, October 7, 2016, at the Reger Funeral Home. The family would like to thank Hospice as well as all the employees at Chateau Grove Assisted Living where she spent the last two years of her life. BILLY LEE SPAULDING, 84, of Wilsondale, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at home. Born on July 23, 1932 on Tick Ridge, he was the 7th son of the late Lealon and Lula Spaulding. Also preceding him in death were brothers Add, Mose, General, and W.R. Spaulding, and sisters, Lillian "Sis" Brewer, Tavie Harris & Surilda Raines. A hard working man, Billy enjoyed working in his garage and spending time with his family. He was a member of Turkey Creek United Baptist Church, which he loved an attended faithfully. He leaves behind his loving wife of 50 years, Virginia "Jenny" Spaulding; one daughter, Judy Spaulding; four sons, Billy Joe (Elaine) Spaulding, Tony (Faith) Spaulding, Danny (Jewell) Spaulding, and Terry (Destiny) Spaulding; and grandchildren, Jody, Jenna and her fiancé Cody, James "Bub", Alexys "Lexy", April, Caylin, Emilee, Lexi, Addison Grace, Jordyn "Tweet", Braxton, and Ameron. Also surviving is a sister, Rebecca Dodge; one brother Homer Spaulding; step-brother Paul Messer; a host of nieces and nephews; brothers and sisters of the church; and many friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at Turkey Creek United Baptist Church, Wilsondale with Pastor Emanuel Ferguson, Brother George Nelson and Brother Elmer Bradley officiating. Burial will follow in the Marcum Cemetery, Tick Ridge. Friends called after 5 p.m. Monday and until the time of service on Wednesday at the church. OTIS PARSONS, 84 of Kenova, husband of Lucille Parsons, died Oct. 1, 2016 at home. Johnson Tiller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete.

VERNA S. CURNUTTE, 93, of Wayne, passed away Sunday, October 2, 2016 at Wayne Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born September 2, 1923 at Crum, W.Va., a daughter of the late Lace and Nancy Mills Salmons. Verna was a retired teacher for the Wayne County Board of Education and was a member of the Wayne Church of Christ on Bluefield Street. Her husband, Francis M. Curnutte, Jr. also preceded her in death. Survivors include her son, Francis M. Curnutte, III and his wife, Dr. Clara Mason, of Charleston, W.Va.; two sisters, Mary Floyd of Wellston, Ohio, and Opal Kistler and husband Keith of Lancaster, Ohio. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, with Minister Ronald Ross officiating. Burial will follow at the Curnutte Cemetery at Radnor, W.Va. Visitation will be from noon until service time on Wednesday at Morris Funeral Home.

JOHN JAY SIMMONS, 57, of East Lynn, W.Va., passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2016. Born September 25, 1959 in Miami, Fla., John graduated from Norland High School and Miami Dade Technical School with a degree in Auto, specializing in transmissions. His father John Jasper Simmons preceded him in death along with one son, John Jay Simmons, Jr. Survivors include his mother, Pauline Simmons of Brooksville, Fla.; one son, Joe Simmons, of East Lynn, W.Va.; one sister, Linda Jordan, also of Brooksville; and his ex-wife, friend, and mother of his children, Lila Johnson and her husband Glen. He will also be missed by his close friends Teager and Brenda Osburn, and Tommy Osburn; and friends and family too numerous to mention. John will finally rest at the Osburn Cemetery, Bartram fork at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, October 8, 2016 with arrangements entrusted to Johnson Tiller funeral Home. All family and friends are welcome to attend the graveside service to say "Good-bye."

MAXIE ALLEN "MACK" DAVIS, 77, of Prichard, W.Va., at 12:40 a.m., with his nieces by his side, laid down this old body of flesh and received his new glorified body likened with Christ. Mr. Davis was born January 24, 1939, in Wayne County, to the late Zella Thacker Davis and Mont Lee Davis. Also preceding him in death is one brother, Kenneth Davis; four sisters, Blanche Burton, Mary Thompson, Norma Jean Meade and Freda May Davis; granddaughter, Christina Davis; and grandson, Jordan Davis. Mack attended Buffalo Schools and retired in 2001 as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic for IUOE Local 132. He was a KY Colonel, enjoyed deer hunting and was a member of House of Worship. He is survived by his loving wife, Donna McKenzie Davis; sons, Gregory Allen Davis of Huntington, David Jesse Davis and wife Charity of Lloyd, Ky.; stepson, whom he thought of as his own, Roger A. Workman Jr. and wife Roxi of Paintsville, Ky. Also his mother-in-law, Blanche McKenzie of Ashland, Ky.; sister-in-law, Wanda and Reizen Allen of Ashland, Ky.; grandchildren, Aaron Caudill, Elizabeth Davis Washington, Taylor Hamilton, Brittany Workman, Justin Davis, Hannah Toler, Jasper Davis and Layla Davis; great-grandchildren, Quentin Bailey and Jaxon Hamilton. Also surviving is a brother, Ralph (Wanda) Davis; two sisters, Barb Slone of Prichard and Glenna (Curt) Sturm of Bakersfield, Calif.; several nieces, nephews and family members too numerous to name. Two special nieces that were with him when he passed and were his caregivers, Teresa Boone and Ashley Vaughn. Nieces, Christy Paynter, Melissa Billups, Amanda Christian and Megan Hazlett, thank you as well. A special thanks to Wayne Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Hospice of Huntington. LUCILLE VICTORIA GRUBB NEEL, 101, of Huntington, passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2016, at her home surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, October 6, 2016, at 12:30 p.m. at the Reger Funeral Chapel by Rev. Joe Hill. Burial will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Lucille was born July 13, 1915, the eldest child of the late Harry Frederick and Virgie Mae Overby Grubb. She was the matriarch of the Huxham/Grubb/Norris/Overby families, early settlers of Wayne and Cabell counties of West Virginia. She was devoted to her entire family. Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin F. Neel, siblings, Jack Charles (Delores), Alma "Pouge" Hamilton, John William, James Frederick, and son-in-law, James Puckett, brother-in-law, Don Smith, and sister-in-law, Betty Grubb. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Sue Ellen Browning Puckett; beloved grandson, Dr. Todd Trimboli (Regina); great-granddaughter, Kristen Trimboli; sisters, Maxine Smith, Lydia Winters (Paul); brothers, Samuel Grubb and Tommy Grubb (Joann), and sister-in-law, Glema Grubb. Also survived by her nieces and nephews whom she adored, Jacquie "Sug," Charles, David, Lisa, Keith, Tim, Jason, Kevin, Jeff and Polly, as well as several great- and great-great-nieces and -nephews. She was a homemaker (making bread and cookies at age of 100), talented seamstress, enjoyed crafting and quilting. She was devoted to her deep faith in Christ and a member of Westmoreland Baptist Church. In her declining years, Dr. Charles Stanley was her pastor. She has left many notes and passages from his sermons for her family. The family would like to thank Dr. Kathy Saber and her staff, St. Mary's Home Health, Darcy, Yanet and Darren of Hospice, Kim Johnson, special friend and caregiver, and all who helped during her final days. CLAUDE WALLACE HUXHAM went home to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, October 3, 2016, at the age of 87. Claude was born in Huntington, December 9, 1928, to Stuart and Arletta (Wilson) Huxham. After serving a tour of duty in the United States Army ending in 1953, he married his wife of 63 years, Carol Joyce (Smith) Huxham, June 6, 1953. They made their home together in Columbus, Ohio, until they moved to northern Minnesota with their younger daughter in 2013. He worked faithfully as provider and devoted husband, as well as Sunday school teacher and usher at Calvary Bible Church in Columbus, Ohio. Claude is survived by his wife; his daughters, Claudia (Paul) Muller and Laurian (Tom) Halverson; brother, John (Marilyn) Huxham; ten grandchildren, Daniel (Sarah) Muller, Lydia (Ben) Yarborough, David, Hannah and Stephen Muller, Care, Teresa, Naomi, Jovanna and Juan Halverson; and nine great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Samuel, Karissa and Caleb Muller, Holden, Camden and Eden Yarborough and Sapphire and Tidus Petrie. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Daniel Duane; sister-in-law, Jerri Huxham; and his parents. A graveside service will be held October 9, 2016, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Duane Smith officiating in the Huxham Family Cemetery, Overby Rd., Huntington. There will be no visitation or procession to the cemetery. RICHARD LEON "DICK" WARD, 80, of Kenova, passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2016, at King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky., surrounded by his wife and children. Dick was born April 19, 1936, in Kenova, a son of the late Anthal and Mary Kathleen Smith Ward. He retired from Iron Workers Local 769, Ashland, Ky., after 26 years. He was a graduate of Buffalo High School. Dick was a 50-year member of Buena Vista Masonic Lodge #60, Whites Creek, W.Va., whose members will conduct graveside rites. In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by two brothers, William and James Ward, and one son-in-law, Rev. Doctor Wendell M. Tackett. He is survived by his beloved wife, Betty Lou Bannister Ward; three daughters and one son-in-law, Kathy (Mike) Black, Rachel Davis and Carol Tackett; two sons, Barry (Mae Hicks) Lovern and Richard (Jamie) Ward II; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lois Adkins and Nancy Chapman; several nieces, nephews and a host of family and good friends. RUBY A. ADKINS, 90, of Huntington, widow of Albert G. Adkins, passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2016, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Reger Funeral Chapel by Pastor Jerry Matt. Burial will follow in Hewlett Cemetery, Louisa, Ky. She was born August 19, 1926, in Louisa, Ky., a daughter of the late Nancy Burchett Hewlett. She was a former employee of Big Bear and a member of the Westmoreland Baptist Church. In addition to her husband and mother, she was also preceded in death by brothers, Clyde and Dayton Hewlett, and sisters, Reo Gifford and Maude White. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Albert G. Adkins II (Anna M.) of The Woodlands, Texas, and Larry D. Adkins (Della) of Huntington; four grandchildren, Robert S. Adkins (Kathleen), Erica L. Sapienza, Jennifer R. Graham (Justin) and Dennis M. Adkins; two great-grandchildren, Alexandra Adkins and Angelina Sapienza; and several nieces and nephews. DONNIST RAY OWENS, 87, of Lavalette, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, October 4, 2016, at his residence. Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Larry Carico at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 7, 2016, at the Reger Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Donnist was born February 7, 1929, in Huntington, to the late Floyd Monroe and Inez Estelle Shepherd Owens. He was a truck driver and a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean Conflict as a Sergeant 1st Class. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather and a faithful member of Crockett-Booten United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Kathrine Owens; two brothers, Harold Owens and Thurman Owens; two infant sisters; and two sons-in-law, Philip Cyrus and Mark Adkins. He is survived by three daughters, Pamela (Mike) Shafer, Terri Cyrus Adkins and Donna Noce; a stepdaughter, Judy Mays; a stepson, Jerry Vanfaussian; six grandchildren, Tara Barker, Lindsey (Dan) Mullis, Erin (Jason) Maynard, Eric Cyrus, Craig Noce, Douglas Noce; four step-grandchildren, Kellie Mayes, Kevin Mays, Erin Vanfaussian, Brock Vanfaussian; four great-grandchildren, Layne, Avery, Floyd Michael and Christopher; and a special niece, Judy Smith. MARY ANN WEBB RAYBURN, affectionately known as "Mam-aw" by the Marshall University Football Team, 69 of Huntington, WV passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at Cabell County Health Care, Culloden, WV. Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, October 7, 2016 at the Reger Funeral Chapel by Rick Webb and Pastor Greg Lunsford. Burial followed in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, WV. Mary was born August 6, 1947 in Huntington, WV a daughter of the late Mary M. Humphreys Webb and the late Richard Lee Webb. She was a retired employee of the U.S. Postal Service, Mary Ann was also very active within her community and with various organizations. She was a member of the Quarterback Club, The Big Green, MU Sideliners Club, Vinson Memorial Christian Church, Kiwanis Club, Westmoreland Neighborhood Watch, American Postal Workers Union, served as an advocate for POW and MIA Soldiers, organized the Torch Run for Special Olympics and assisted with the Ohio River Sweep. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Teresa Ann Rayburn of Huntington, one sister, Carolyn (Ron) Welder of Milton, two brothers, Rick (Judy) Webb of Salt rock, Scott (Lisa) Webb of Barboursville, WV and one sister, Karen Morrison of Ona, WV. She also will be missed by numerous family members and a host of friends. Visitation was from 12:00 PM until service time at 2:00 PM friday, Oct. 7 at the Reger Funeral Home.

CHARLES CLEON CLAY, 80 of Letart, WV, passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at his residence. Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 pm Monday, October 10, 2016 at Morris Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Watson Cemetery, Branchland, WV. He was born June 9, 1936 in Branchland, WV, a son of the late Clarence Milton and Lilly Watts Clay. Charles was a retired pipe fitter for Kaiser Aluminum with 40 years of service and a member of the Steel Workers Union. A brother, Clarence Clifford Clay also preceded him in death. Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Maxine Clay; a daughter, Pamela Mae Clay-Click and husband, Roderick of Mt. Alto, WV; a son, Terry Cleon Clay and wife, Marvette of Katy, TX; two brothers, Lyle Clay of Pecks Mill, WV, Harry Clay and wife, Gayle of Camden, SC; two grandchildren, Nathaniel James Amos, Kevin Randall Clay; four step-grandchildren, Darrell Williamson, Kaelie Graham, Leslie Turner and Ashlie Remlinger. JIMMY DALE SCAGGS SR., 49, of Catlettsburg, Ky., passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2016, at his residence. He was born September 18, 1967, in Huntington, a son of the late Billy Ray and Susie Bell McKinzie Scaggs. Jimmy was a used car salesman with H & R Auto Sales. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Tonya Mathis Scaggs, his second wife, Charlotte Scaggs, and his son, Jimmy Dale Scaggs Jr. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia "Cassaundra" Scaggs Marcum (Tommy Marcum Jr.); two grandchildren, Dakota Scaggs and Brianna Marcum; one brother and sister-in-law, Clark Scaggs (April); three sisters and one brother-in-law, Mary Lou Lewis, Peggy Sue Harold and Rebecca Jean Conley (Brian). DOROTHY MARIE STEPP AKERS PERRY, 77, of Lavalette, W.Va., went home to be with her Heavenly Father Thursday, October 6, 2016, at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Sunday, October 9, 2016, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, with Brother Jackie Lee Nelson and Elder Wornie Meeks officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery at Kenova. She was born July 16, 1939, at Prichard, W.Va., a daughter of the late Wade and Opal Young Stepp. She was a former seamstress and floor manager for Corbin, Ltd., and was a member of the Prichard United Baptist Church. Also preceding her in death were her first husband, Claude Akers, a son, Michael Scott Akers, sisters, Louise Meade, Mary Blake and Gladys Ward, brothers, James Stepp and Ellis Stepp, and her best friend, Yorkie Worth. Survivors include her husband, Dolphus Perry; two daughters, Deborah Akers Phillips (Robert) of Charlotte, N.C., and Shelley Perry McCallister (Shawn) of Wayne; two sons, Darryl Perry (Kathy) of Genoa, W.Va., and Samuel Perry of Wayne; two sisters, Roberta Mills of Huntington and Cleta Wilks of Kenova; a brother, Earmel Stepp (Brenda) of South Point, Ohio; six grandchildren, Tiffany Phillips Grizzard, Shauna McCallister, Shelby McCallister, Justin Perry (Tiffany), Colten Adkins (Kristen) and Darra Perry; two great-grandchildren, Alicia Grizzard and Trace Adkins; and a special sister-in-law, Dreama Akers. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Saturday at Morris Funeral Home.

DONALD PRATT, 95, of Wayne, West Virginia, passed away Thursday, October 6, 2016 in Wayne, WV. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 10, 2016 at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, WV, with Pastor Doug Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery at Wayne. He was born June 3, 1921 at East Lynn, WV, a son of the late Carl and Lona Davis Pratt. He was a U.S. Army Air force Veteran. Don received his master’s degree from Marshall University in 1950 and taught for the Wayne County School system. His wife, Anita Napier Pratt and a daughter-in-law, Paulette Pratt, also preceded him in death. Survivors include two sons, David Randall Pratt (Phyllis) of Ceredo, WV and Glenn Alan Pratt (Anna) of Wayne, WV; five grandchildren, Brian Pratt, Randall Alan Pratt (Angel), Robert J. Pratt (Nicole), Kody Adkins and Kayla Adkins; and five great-grandchildren, Brittnee Wilson, Landon Hunter Pratt, Gracie Ann Pratt, Maddie Pratt and Braydon Adkins. The family wishes to extend their thanks to Hospice of Huntington, right at Home of Ceredo, WV, and the VA Medical Center for their help during Don’s final days. MAHALA LACY, 62 of Crum, WV passed away on Friday, October 7, 2016 at her home. She was born on April 9, 1954 in Wayne County, WV; she was a daughter of the late Homer and Ruby Jean Hodge Waller. She was a homemaker. Mahala is preceded in death by her 2 children; Della Jean Lacy and Clifford Waller. She is survived by her daugher, Sherrie Hundley of Jennies Creek, WV as well as 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sister; Melvina Case of Jennies Creek, WV. Funeral services were conducted on Monday, October 10, 2016 at 1:00 pm at the Full Gospel Church of Jesus on Jennies Creek Rd., with J. C. Waller and Arbie Dillon officiating. Burial followed in the Perry Point Cemetery of Jennies Creek, WV. Visitation was after 4 pm Saturday and until time of services on Monday at the Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home, Inez, KY.

ALMA MAYNARD KEENEY, 92 of Huntington, WV passed away Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Heartland of Riverview, South Point, Ohio. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the Reger Funeral Chapel, by Dr. C.J. Adkins. Burial will follow in Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington. Alma was born July 25, 1924 in Huntington, WV a daughter of the late Thomas and Sena Maynard. She was a former supervisor with Huntington Industries and a member of Westmoreland Baptist Church. WILLIAM RICHARD "RICK" TOMBLIN, 56, of Huntington, W.Va., passed away Sunday, October 9, 2016 at King’s Daughters Medical Center following a short illness. He was born August 28, 1960 in Huntington, W.Va., a son of the late Dewey Tomblin and Goldie Mae Rice. His grandmother, Alma Wallace also preceded him death. ELIZABETH HANNAH BREWER, 85, of Kermit, West Virginia passed away at her home on Monday, October 10, 2016. BRUCE CLINTON BEVINS, 65, of Huntington, W.Va., died Oct. 11, 2016. He was born Dec. 28, 1950, in Lexington, Ky., the son of Earl and Delphine Bevins. He was a mining engineer dedicated to his alma mater, the University of Kentucky, and served in engineering positions for C&O Railroad and Teco Coal. A lifelong athlete, Bruce played basketball and football for Vinson High School and later enjoyed bicycling, snow skiing and golf. Bruce's greatest passion was for his family, especially his high school sweetheart, Patty Stephens Bevins, who cared for him throughout his battle with ALS with amazing faith, hope and love. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by Patty, to whom he was married 44 years; one son, Bruce Bevins II, his wife Arianne and children Connor, Harrison and Ella, all of Matthews, N.C.; two daughters, Natalie Roy, her husband Zackary and children Hayden and Carter, all of Lexington, Ky.; and Erica Bevins and her dogs Zoey and Mac of Huntington; a brother, Dave Bevins and his wife Molly of Huntington; a sister, Elizabeth Pinson and her children Cayley and Turner of Greensboro, N.C.; in-laws, Herb and Kathy Stephens of Springtown, Tex., and John and Cindy Stephens of Hurricane, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Fun-loving and giving, Bruce was a man known for his strong demeanor, fiery debates and deep loyalty. He loved to laugh and had a well-known affection for Buffy, the tiny poodle who visited him in the hospital and eagerly claimed her spot on his lap or beside him every time he returned. REATHAL "ANN" TROGDON GUADAGNA, of New Port Richey, ended her journey Oct. 12, 2016. Born Oct. 2, 1942 to Ed and Arma (Fraley) Trogdon in Wayne, WV. Ann enjoyed poetry. Two of her best written poems were printed in "Dusting Off Dreams" and "Treasure the Moment". Ann’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her children, Jo Ellen Cummings and Bryon Mawyer of New Port Richey. Ann leaves behind her dear sister, Ida Sheets of Trinity, FL and a brother, Jim Ed Trogdon (Geraldine) of Wayne, WV. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Lenora Grace Van Valkenburg. Ann leaves behind four grandchildren, Jovan, Ronnie, Janeil and Mandy. After retiring from James A. Haley VA Hospital in the Department of Veterans Affairs, she played piano and loved her friends and her church, First Baptist Church New Port Richey. Cancer took her life but it did not take her spirit. She brushed against our lives so gently, she touched us. Her favorite verse from her favorite song, "The Rose" - "When the night has been too lonely and the road has been too long and you think that love is only for the lucky and the strong. Just remember in the winter far beneath the bitter snows lies the seed that with the sun’s love, in the spring becomes "The Rose." RAY FREDERICK PERRY, 95, of Fort Gay, W.Va., passed peacefully from this life on October 14, 2016. He follows his beloved and deeply missed wife, Lois, who passed away on February 25, 2014. He is survived by his loving children, Connie (Walter) Crenshaw Jr., Linda Perry, Michael Perry, Marty (Jerry) Ferrell and Carol Perry; six grandchildren, Kimberly Crenshaw, Stephanie (Louis) Marchesi, Walter (Kimberly) Crenshaw III, Lauren (Andres) Garcia, Martha (Ben) Edler, Emma Perry; and eight great-grandchildren, Blue, Piper, Jamie, Toby, Maliyah, Dominic, Olivia and Isaac. He was loved and admired by everyone in his extended family, including many cousins, nephews, nieces, and their children and grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Violet Perry, brothers, Roy and Joseph Perry, and brother-in-law, Don W. Jameson. Ray was deeply loved by his sisters, Helen Jameson of Doylestown, Ohio, Rhozella (Bill) Arnold of Kooskia, Idaho, Kathryn McCloud of Fort Gay, W.Va., Mary Madsen of Huntington, W.Va., brother, Philip (Shirley) Perry of Concord, N.C., and sister-in-law, Lottie Perry of Fort Gay, W.Va. Ray was born in Wayne County, W.Va., on May 21, 1921, the oldest of eight children. After graduating from high school, he worked at Ashland Oil refinery until he enlisted in the Marines. He served in the U.S. Marines 3rd Division in World War II in the Pacific Theater, including landings on Guam and Iwo Jima. He was involved in communications and worked closely with a group of Navajo Code Talkers during the war. Ray married Lois Mary Pickering on May 25, 1946. He attended Temple University on the G.I. Bill, graduated with a degree in Accounting and was hired by Procter and Gamble. Throughout his 30-year career at P&G, heand his family lived in many different states, finally settling in Cincinnati, Ohio, until his retirement. He retired in 1979, and returned with Lois to his beloved West Virginia to live on the family farm on the banks of Mill Creek in Wayne County. In retirement Ray and Lois were very active in Nativity of Our Lord Church in Wayne, W.Va. For many years he provided volunteer tax assistance and was also a member of the local ham radio club. He enjoyed gardening, working on latch hook rugs, and was a very talented handyman. Throughout his life he was fond of sharing his love of nature with family and friends. The Celebration of Life service for Ray will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 19, at Nativity of Our Lord Church, 40 Bridge St., Wayne, WV 25570. EMMA ELLEN CHILDERS, age 89, went to Heaven on October 15, 2016, after a short illness. Emma Ellen Mellert was born on July 19, 1927, and grew up in West Huntington, the ninth sibling out of ten children. Emma was married to her beloved husband, Cloyd Elwood Childers, for 68 years. She was a devoted wife, mother to three sons, and a grandmother to five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Emma was a devout Christian, and had been a member of Open Door Baptist Church; Grace Gospel Church, where she sang in the choir; Crossroads Baptist Church and South Point First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her mother Dolla Mellert; her father George Mellert; her son Mark Childers; her grandson Joshua Childers; her sisters Myrtle Cook, Georgia Sheldon, Mildred Byrd and Geraldine Pauley; and her brothers Hugh Mellert, Luke Mellert, George Mellert and Joseph Mellert. Emma is survived by her husband Cloyd Elwood Childers of South Point, Ohio; her sister Elizabeth Napier of Huntington; her son Michael Childers (Patricia) of Waynesboro, VA.; her son David Childers (Vicki); her grandchildren Jon Childers (Meredith) of Seattle, Wash., Sarah Beth Childers of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Jennifer Childers of Huntington, W.Va., and Rebecca Childers of Barboursville, W.Va.; and her great-grandchildren Grace and Benjamin Childers of Seattle, Wash. She also had a host of nieces, nephews and friends, including the Joy Seniors that she enjoyed so much. JANICE LORINE WHITT, 89, of Barboursville, formerly of North Matewan, W.Va., loving mother and grandmother, passed away October 16, 2016. She was born January 10, 1927, in Kenova. She was the daughter of the late Margaret and Lewis Hendricks. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Whitt; sisters, Elsie Smith, Helen Montgomery and Betty Akers. She is survived by one brother, Lewis R. (Shirley) Hendricks of Beaver Creek, Ohio; one daughter, Jana Margaret Whitt of Barboursville; one son, Rod (Sally) Whitt of Barboursville; one granddaughter, Amy (Scott) Westcott; and one grandson, Alex Whitt of Barboursville, and several nieces and nephews. She graduated in 1944 from Matewan High School and attended Little French Beauty Academy in Bluefield, W.Va. She was a self-employed beautician for 38 years. After leaving North Matewan, W.Va., she became involved with the Senior Citizens of Barboursville, leading the exercise group for 30 years. She was chosen WSAZ Hometown hero in 1996 for her volunteering. She was also a Red Cross volunteer for several years. OTIS PARSONS, 84, of Kenova, W.Va., passed away Monday, October 17, 2016 at his residence. He was born July 14, 1932 in Huntington, W.Va., a son of Ulysses Parsons and Lillie Jefferies Parsons. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Lacey, Lonnie and Freeland; two sisters, Lottie and Jewel; one granddaughter, Amber Tackett; one son-in-law, Mike Ward, and one nephew, Ricky Parsons. He was a veteran Tank Commander in the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War. Otis was also a member of the Bowen Methodist Church. He leaves behind his loving wife of 60 years, Lucille Leek Parsons; four daughters, Mary, Cindy, Betsy and Cathy; seven sons, Otie, Joey, David, Timmy, Donnie, Daniel and Gary; four brothers, Atis, Denny, Edward and Sam; 19 grandchildren; 17 great- randchildren; and a host of friends and family too numerous to mention. GLADYS ROBERTSON, 94, of South Point, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 17, 2016. Gladys was a member of Philadelphia United Baptist Church for 79 years. She was a homemaker and loved quilting with her friends with covered dinners and was very competitive in Mexican Dominoes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Robertson, brothers, J.P., Raymond and Hoover, and sisters, Opal, Ruby and Phyllis. Survivors include her three daughters, Arbutus "Boots" Robertson of South Point, Ohio, Earlene Wilson of Zephyrhills, Florida, and Pansy Reed of The Villages, Florida; seven grandchildren, Larry Johnson of Columbus, Ohio, Andra Johnson of Franklin, Tennessee, William Johnson of Barboursville, W.Va., Karen Wilson of Bryan, Ohio, Rodney Wilson of Naples, Florida, Kellie Lange of Hinsdale, Illinois, and Chad Reed of New Albany, Ohio. Gladys is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Shirley Robertson (Steve) of Kenova, W.Va., Martha Long (Terry) of Interlachen, Florida, Pansy Ramey of Lavalette, W.Va., and Ethel Burks of Palatka, Florida; one brother, Golden Ramey (Tennie) of Interlachen, Florida. DANIEL GLENN ADKINS, 76, of Creston, Ohio, passed away October 18, 2016 at home. He was born December 10, 1939 in Wayne, West Virginia a son of the late Henry and Pinkie Bradshaw Adkins. Also preceding him in death were eight brothers and sisters: Donald Adkins, Lyda Parsons, Marie Ferguson, Virginia Ramey, Ralph Adkins, Henrietta Miller, Charles Adkins, and Mary McCormick. Daniel was a graduate of the Robney School for the Deaf and was a retired barber. He loved fishing, yard work, and taking care of his family. He could often be found talking to his buddies Randy and Ronnie, and had a special talent for cheating at cards and dice. BARBARA ANN STEPHENS, 76, of Wayne, W.Va., crossed over into eternal peace on Wednesday, October 19, 2016. She was born March 8, 1940 in Wayne County, a daughter of the late Mark and Nannie Meddings. Her brother Bob Meddings also preceded her in death. Barbara was member of the Bible Apostolic Church in Huntington, a devoted wife and great mother. She leaves behind her loving husband Adolphis Stephens; one daughter Gail McHugh of Nashville, Tenn.; three sons, Al Stephens of Chesapeake, Oh., Edmond (Teresa) Stephens of Wayne, and Bradley (Debbie) Stephens of Huntington, W.Va.; nine grandchildren, Jenifer Thompson, Michael McHugh, Justin Stephens, Aimee Moon, Nathaniel Stephens, Jonathon Stephens, Kendra Davis, Tabitha Stephens, and Samuel Stephens; and 13 great grandchildren. On October 24th, 2016, CAROL SUE BRUMFIELD PERRY, after a long and courageous battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis, passed away at home. She was the daughter of Leonard "Slick" and Jessie Brumfield. CHRISTINE GRACE "TEENIE" HODGES, 98, current resident of Tallahassee, Fla., passed away at Westminster Oaks on Thursday, October 27, 2016. Mrs. Hodges was born in Huntington, West Virginia, to Louis and Elizabeth Crow on January 29, 1918. Christine is survived by her daughter, Lucy Bean of Tallahassee; five grandchildren; one step-grandson; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 54 years, Charles D. "Ikey" Hodges, retired Lt. Colonel in the US Army Reserves and former USPO Superintendent of Mail in Sarasota, Fla.; one brother, Ronald Crow; two sisters, Frances Duenas and Analois Napier; a daughter, Judy Denmark; sons-in-law, John Denmark and James Bean; and great-great-grandson, John Grayson Whitfield. The family will be observing a private celebration of Christine's life, in keeping with her wishes. She retired as a bookkeeper for Ceredo Bank and was a member of Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Joe Henry Shy, and her second husband, Harland Allen; and her sisters, Wilma J. Nichols and Glenna Wellman. She was born March 20, 1929, at Huntington, a daughter of the late Mack and Mary Rhoden Travis. She was a retired school teacher at Genoa Elementary School and was a member for over 60 years of the Genoa United Baptist Church, where she also played piano. Elizabeth was also a member of the Eastern Star and PEIA Teachers' Retirement Association. Also preceding her in death were her husband, Elias Lee Perry Jr., whom she married June 27, 1946; a son, Murle Eugene Perry; two grandsons, Matthew Scott Cassidy and Cody Austin Perry; seven sisters and three brothers. Survivors include two daughters, Velores Cassidy (Jerry) and Vickie Maynard (Robert), all of Genoa; a son, Bart Perry (Kim) of Genoa; a daughter-in-law, Sue Perry Chaffin of Genoa; seven grandchildren, Murle Perry II (Angie), C.D. Damron (Stephanie), Perry Damron (Lesa), Travis Cassidy (Beverly), Garry Maynard (Lisa), Larry Joe Maynard (Kimberly) and Brent Maynard (Melanie); 16 great-grandchildren, Josh Perry, Michael Perry, Zachary Damron, Kinsey Elizabeth White (Brian), Corey Damron (Jessica), Ashley Maynard (Jordan), Brody Lunsford, Hailey Lunsford, Katelyn Cassidy, Garrett Maynard, Allison Maynard, Caleb Maynard, Jared Maynard, Kayden Maynard, Jacob Elias Maynard and Tyler Eli Maynard; and two great-grandchildren, Dryve Ray Damron and Sawyer Reed Damron. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 1, 2016, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, with Pastors Mack Ray Cyrus and Danny Stapleton officiating. Burial will follow at the Perry-Watts Cemetery at Genoa. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Monday at Morris Funeral Home.

GEORGE MARVIN DAVIS, 73 years of age, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 31, 2016, after dedicating his life to Christ. Marvin was born December 31, 1942, to his parents, the late Bascom and Velma Blankenship Davis. He grew up in Prichard, West Virginia, with his older brother, Bascom Jay Davis, and remained there the rest of his life. He is preceded in death by his wife, Susie Staley Davis. Marvin loved his many years of work and friends at B&W Sales Equipment Rentals. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and spending time with family and friends at the Davis family farm. He had a heart of gold and a good sense of humor. To know him was to love him, and he will be greatly missed by his many friends and family members. Marvin leaves his family to cherish his memory, including his daughter, Yvonna Boyle Maynard and her husband Elva, his brother, Bascom Jay Davis and his wife Joyce Hay Davis, his nieces and nephews, Perry Jay Davis, Rhonda Davis Revis, John Raymond Davis, Lisa Davis Herda, Teresa Davis McCormick, and many great-nieces and -nephews, cousins and friends. Please, in lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, West Virginia, as they took great care of him in his final hours. Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2016, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rollins Funeral Home, Kenova, West Virginia. The funeral service will be held on Friday, November 4, 2016, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Larry Mullens officiating. Burial will follow in the Davis Family Cemetery.
