FANNIN    Rebecca Fannin was born ca 1850, probably in Wayne County, to Silas M. & Mary ( ) Fannin. She married Reece Workman in 1868 in Wayne County. Their son, Benjamin Freeland who was my grandfather, was born in 1870. Reece took this son and left Rebecca after 1871. She divorced him in 1877, and may have remarried. ADKINS, SPEARS Seeking information concerning the family of my grandmother, Lelia Jane Adkins. Her father was William A. "Blink-Eye-Bill" Adkins. MAGNUSSEN, SCOFIELD    My Aunt Thilda Magnussen married Horatio Scofield, and one of their sons died in Ceredo, WV. His name was Clayton Scofield, born 10/10/1908 ? and died in December of 1983. I wish to contact any of his relatives. A copy of his obituary would be very helpful. Any suggestions?

STALEY, FOWLER, ADKINS, DAVIS I have researched these families for many years and have lots of data, including a lot of personal stories. I do not wish to publish my material, but will be happy to help answer questions which might arise. The Dallas Staley family lived at Prichard, WV. Father of Dallas was John Staley who married Elizabeth Perdue. Most of my Adkins line came from WV or KY. STITH, HUBBARD I am researching some of my family from Wayne County. My great-grandmother, Genie Stith as well as her brother Phillip and her sister Maud were all born in Wayne County in the late 1870's. Their parents were George W. and Ella (Hubbard) Stith. Ella died when the children were young and I am told they were raised in an orphanage. Is there any information available regarding orphanages in the area? ISAACS, WATTS    Need help with my research on Samuel Lewis Isaacs who was born ca 1850 in Kentucky and married Pearl Watts. There were at least five children: Augustus, Frank, Gilbert, Ely and a daughter who died young. I believe Pearl Watts is actually Perlina, daughter of Daniel Jackson Watts, but have no proof. SPURLOCK    My 96 year old mother who lives in Hurricane, WV recently gave me some old documents that says she was adopted at age 11 months and relocated to Oak Hill, WV. Her real father was stated to be Henry Spurlock, who is buried in Woodmere Cemetery. Now, I need to find someone who can help me figure this family out. PURDY, COTTON Looking for help with Walter Scott Purdy and his wife Hallie Cotton Purdy, who lived in 1931 on 10th Avenue in Huntington. Hallie was born ca 1879, probably in Ohio, and died in Huntington in 1931. She was compiling a family history of her family. In a letter written in 1931, she mentioned her sisters, Mrs. C. W. Jewell, Mrs. R. C. Walker, Mrs. W. D. Plant, Mrs. Jack Kreyer, Mrs. Edgar Stover and her brother Emmett W. Cotton. I am wondering if her family history may have been donated to a genealogical society. The County Library does not have it. Thanks for any help or direction anyone might provide.

MARCUM, FARLEY     My name is Nannie Marcum and I was born in 1950 to Roland & Mary (Farley) Marcum. My grandparents were Ransome & Ellen (Justice) Marcum. (Ransome’s second wife was Bessie Marcum). I had four older siblings named Emma, Roland, Jr, Jewell and Ellen. There was also perhaps a nephew named Patrick Marcum. MILLS, WOOTEN     I am searching for information on Randolph Mills, Jr. (1874-1967) who married Ellen Wooten (1877-1900?). They had three children: Silas P. Mills in 1893, Willie Marion Mills in 1895 and Nancy Ann Mills in 1898. Did Ellen die from childbirth with Nancy Ann. Randolph remarried in 1900 to Emma Jane Fitzpatrick. RAMEY, BROWNING     Can anyone help with information concerning Levi Ramey, who was born in 1866 to Stephen and Susan Ramey? Levi was shot and killed in 1899 in Wayne County. PERRY, LINGER, ROBINSON Need help with my ancestors Arnold Perry who married on 8/8/1816 in Floyd Co. KY to Polly Ratliff. Family history indicates that his father was Jesse Perry and his mother was Elizabeth Linger. But..... whenever I find information on Jesse, it indicates his father was Abraham Perry and his mother Robinson. One source indicates Abraham’s middle name was Jesse. HERALD, DAMRON Researching William Herald (1763-1853). My information states that he died in 1853 while living with his daughter Rebecca, wife of Moses Damron of Dunlow, WV. BLANKENSHIP Does anyone know where Jesse O. Blankenship is buried? His wife was Eliza Ellen Blankenship. Jesse was a survivor of the Civil War, serving in the 34th VA Cavalry under Lt. Col. V. A. HUTCHINSON While viewing some old home movies taken by my father in the 1960's, I saw a family whom I remembered from childhood. They were Pat and Ruby (Frazer) Hutchinson. SALMONS Having trouble sorting out my Salmons/Sammons Family. I believe I descend from Rowland Salmons. My information is that John Carter Salmons married Nancy Cox, and that Nancy was a daughter of Rowland Salmons. John Carter’s daughter Nancy A. Salmons was my great grandmother. RUTHERFORD My g.g. grandfather, Martin V. Rutherford, was born in McMinn County, TN in 1839, according to his military record. I believe his family came from either Botetourt, VA or the area which became Wayne County. He was a laborer on the farm of Jacob and Nancy Workman in Sangamon Co., IL in 1860. MICHAELS, STROTHER I recently received a copy of my great-grandmother’s obituary. She was Helen L. (Strother) Michaels. Her husband was William Michaels. The obit also mentioned a daughter, Blanche Agnes who married Charles G. Johnson. Helen died 8/4/1915 in Portsmouth, Ohio, and was taken to Prichard, WV for burial. She was survived by her husband. Wiliam lived at Dickson, WV but died at the home of his son George, who lived in Ceredo. His wife died sometime after she appeared in the 1880 census. RUNYON, SUTHERLAND, MOWERY My grandmother was one of three children of James & Sarah (Sutherland) Runyon. She was Clara Alice and had siblings Alvin and Bridgie. Bridgie married a Bocook. Clara Alice was first married to Roscoe Jackson and had a son, James Levi born in May of 1911. Then Clara married my grandfather, James Leslie Mowery, and had four more children. My father Elwood Mowery was born in Wayne County on 10/23/1916. Grandmother may have had some half-sisters, Annie Davis, Martha Capleton (?) And Jeanie Ramey. (ca 1816). James W. Jr. married Jane R. Garrett and their children were William F. (1846), Elizabeth S. (1848), James M. (1849), Margarete A. (1851), Isaac Bloss, (1852) Catharyn Hilton (1854), Zackelus Baily (1856), Beverly J. (1857), Alfred (1859) and Cynthia Ann (1861). Of the Garrett side of the family, Benjamin Garrett married Nancy Grimes, and had one child, Benjamin Garrett, Jr. who married Sarah Bloss, the daughter of Valentine and Mary M. (Smith) Bloss. Their children were Rebecca, Jane R., Nancy, Sarah Ann, Morris, Martha, Alfred and James Dolliver Garrett. They lived near Kenova and moved to North Dakota ca 1900. He had a brother named Wesley Hammock who married Sophie Tingler. These families lived in the Ceredo- Kenova area. Where did the Hammock brothers come from?
