CARL EDWARD FAIN,
87, of Barboursville, WV, passed away Friday, January 1, 2010, in the Emogene
Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington. He was born September 11, 1922, in
Crum, WV, a son of the late Richard and Florence (Brown) Fain. He was a retired
photographer and co-owner of Fain National Studio. He was a veteran of the
United States Army. He was a caring, quiet man with a heart of gold who will be
missed by all those who ever came to know him. He leaves behind a loving wife of
more than 47 years, Alma Frances; sister-in-law, Freda Kuhn and husband, Hollis
of Barboursville, WV; brothers-in-law, Dennis Thompson and wife, Saundra of The
Villages, FL and Dale Thompson and wife, Jan of Green Valley, AZ; nephew, Bill
Dutton and wife, Pam of Barboursville, WV; niece, Alesa Slepsky and husband,
Mark of Madison, OH; special niece, Annette Stiltner and husband, David of Ona,
WV; nephew, Jeff Thompson and wife, Marion of Madison, OH; nephew, Johnny
Thompson and wife, Des of Mentor-on-the-Lake, OH; niece, Julie Williams and
husband, Terry of Manchester, TN; niece, Shannon Reid of Decherd, TN; along with
their families and a host of friends. Funeral service will be 2 PM Saturday,
January 9, 2010, at Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, WV, with Pastor Ralph

DONALD R. MILLS, 77,
of Salt Rock, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord Friday, Jan. 1, 2010. He was
born Nov. 8, 1932, a son of the late Auddie and Rachel (Clay) Mills. He was also
preceded in death by two brothers, Arnold and Denver; and one sister, Dorothy.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Korea as an airman
first class. He retired from Transfab after more than 40 years of service. He
was a caring and devoted husband, father, brother and grandfather. He leaves
behind a loving wife of more than 50 years, Jewell; a son, Danny; one special
grandson, Nathan; a son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Gayle; one sister,
Mildred Lambert; and a host of family and friends. Funeral service will be 2
p.m. Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, at McGhee-Handley Funeral Home, West Hamlin, W.Va.,
with Paul Triplett officiating. Burial will follow at Watson Cemetery,
Branchland, W.Va. Friends may call one hour prior to service on Monday.

EDWARD HAYSE LESTER SR., 79, of Proctorville, Ohio
passed away Saturday, January 2, 2010, at home. He was born December 11, 1930,
in Wayne County, W.Va., son of the late Sam and Frances Lambert Lester. In
addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Lester;
and stepson Danny Blanchard. He is survived by his wife, Ida Maynard Lester; one
daughter, Susan Slagel of Findlay, Ohio; one step-daughter, Brenda Cooper of
Proctorville; three sons, Edward Lester Jr. of Crown City, Ohio, Charles Edward
Lester of Findlay, Ohio and David Lester of Iowa; 13 grandchildren; five
great-grandchildren; sister Ida Mae Goodrich of Huntington, W.Va.; and brother
Jennings Lester of Kenova, W.Va. Funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m.
Wednesday, January 6, 2010, at Hall Funeral Home by Pastor Berkeley Saunders.
Burial will follow in Miller Memorial Gardens, Miller, Ohio. Visitation will be

MADELINE SKEENS DAVIS, 72, of Mechanicsville, Md.,
formerly of Wayne, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Jan. 2,
2010, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 10
a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, W.Va., by
Pastor Michael Dillon. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery at Wayne. She was
born March 4, 1937, in Wayne County, a daughter of the late Dewey and Lydia Hale
Skeens. She was a retired government employee, having worked for the FBI and
Senators Randolph and Nunn. She was a member of Waldorf Freewill Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, James
L. Davis; two brothers, James Eddie Skeens and Fred Skeens; and three sisters,
Dessie Cooper, Elsie Smith and Kathy Skeens. She made her home in Mechanicsville
with her son, Michael James Davis, and three precious grandchildren, Lauren
Michelle, Bryan Michael and Andrea Lynn. Additional survivors include two
brothers, J.C. Skeens and Leroy Skeens; and two sisters, Barbara Skeens and
Peggy Skeens, all of Wayne; and several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and
great-nephews; and one great-great-niece. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m.

PATRICIA ANN MORRISON PANCAKE, 69, of Lavalette,
W.Va., passed away Saturday, January 2, 2010, at home. Funeral services will be
conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 6, 2010, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel,
Wayne, W.Va., by Minister Ronnie Ross. Burial will follow at Mt. Vernon
Cemetery, Wayne. Patty was born February 22, 1940, a daughter of the late Lacy
Lee and Verna Curnutte Morrison. She was retired from Owens-Illinois Glass and
was a member of the Wayne Church of Christ. Her husband, Gene Alden Pancake, a
sister, Bonnie Jean Plymale, and a brother, James "Jim Frank" Morrison, also
preceded her in death. Survivors include a daughter, Cindy Pancake, a son, Scott
Pancake and wife Teresa, and a brother, Billy Lee Morrison, all of Lavalette;
two grandchildren, Katelyn Nicole Pancake and Corey Adam Pancake; a
brother-in-law, Dave Plymale of Wayne; a step-son, Gene Allen Pancake and his
daughters Gina and Brandi, and a host of nieces and nephews. Friends may call

WILFORD HUTCHINSON, 83, of Huntington, passed away
Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at his residence. Wilford was born June 16, 1926, in
Huntington, W.Va., the son of the late Richard and Letha Staley Hutchinson. In
addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and two
sisters. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in WWII in the Asiatic
Pacific Theater. He is survived by his two sons and daughter-in-law; Richard and
Jan Hutchinson and Rodger Hutchinson; two daughters and son-in-law, Debbie and
Bob Overby and Pam Curry; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three
brothers and sisters-in-law, Ronald Belcher, Robert and Chris Hutchinson and
Glenn and Judy Hutchinson; two special sisters-in-law, Barbara Stevens and Lou
Hutchinson; several nieces and nephews; a very special friend of 64 years, Jack
Mills; and the love of his life, Beulah Hutchinson. There will be no service at

JEFFERY ALLEN BOWEN, 37, of Wheeler Hollow, Fort
Gay passed away Saturday, January 2, 2010. Funeral services will be conducted
Wednesday, January 6 at 1 p.m, at the New Friendship United Baptist Church
officiated by Sterling Marcum. Burial will follow at the Bowen-Sammons Cemetery
in Yellow Creek, Ky. Jeffery is survived by one son, Brett Shaunway Waller of
Logan; father, Bennie Bowen Jr. of Yellow Creek, Ky.; three daughters, Brendell
Waller, Kandi Waller and Brandi Waller all of Huntington; two sisters, Loretta
Parsons and Rhonda Robinson both of Louisa, Ky.; two brothers, Bennie Bowen III
of Fort Gay and Paul Bowen of Webb. Visitation was Tuesday at the New Friendship
United Baptist Church.

OREN ALGER LAWHORN, 84, of Huntington, W.Va.,
passed away Sunday, January 3, 2010, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral
services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Christ Temple Church on
Johnstown Road, Huntington, W.Va., by Pastor Dwight Mays and Pastor Kevin West.
Burial will be in Enon Cemetery, Salt Rock, W.Va. He was born November 16, 1925,
in Wayne County, W.Va., a son of the late David Franklin Lawhorn Sr., and Ethel
Patton Lawhorn. He was a retired machinist for Ensign Electric, Harvey Hubbel
Division. He was a member of Christ Temple Church. In addition to his parents,
he was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and Earl Lawhorn. Survivors
include his wife of 62 years, Ruby Justice Lawhorn;, two sons and
daughters-in-law, Roger and Tammy Lawhorn of Lavalette, W.Va., Ronald and Rose
Lawhorn of Cincinnati, Ohio; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda Mays and Arnold
"Dwight" Mays of Barboursville, W.Va.; five grandchildren and spouses, Brian and
Leann Lawhorn of Barboursville, Anthony Lawhorn of Milton, W.Va., Christopher
and Connie Mays of Barboursville, W.Va., Rebecca and Phillip Skeens of
Austintown, Ohio, Tammy and Matthew France of Barboursville, W.Va.; 10

THOMAS JEFFERSON ALIFF, 77, of Wayne went home to
be with the Lord on January 3, 2010 at Huntington Health and Rehabilitation in
Huntington. He was born on May 19, 1032 a son of the late Milton Robert Aliff
and Delphia Adkins Aliff. He was also preceded in death by one son, Lucian
Robert Aliff, one brother, Sherman Aliff; and one sister, Sadie Stephens.
Survivors include four daughters, Vivian Simonic and husband Tom of New Lime,
Oh; Anita White and husband Steve of Andover, Oh, and Lila Aliff of West Lake,
Oh; Rema Stevens and husband Chuck of Jefferson, Oh; two sons Calvin Ailiff and
wife Barb of Austinburg, Oh; Dallas Aliff and wife Pam of Roaming Shores, Oh;
five sisters, Mary Lou Ferguson of Lavalette, Josie Adkins of Wayne, Effie
Ferguson of Cambridge, Madeline Lester of Lavalette and Flossie Stephens of
Wayne; two brothers Carl Aliff and wife Helen of Twinsburg, Oh, and Charles
Aliff of Wayne, Oh. 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and longtime
companion Nellie Lucas and her children Charles Adkins and Tammy Miller and her

2010 at 2 p.m. at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 12 p.m.

The REV. EARNEST WATTS, 70, of Kenova, W.Va., went
to be with the Lord Monday, January 4, 2010, at his residence. Funeral services
will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, January 6, 2010, at the Rush Branch Church,
Fort Gay, W.Va., by Revs. Wilmer Napier and David Cardwell. Burial will follow
at Community Memorial Gardens. He was born September 21, 1939, in Radnor, W.Va.,
a son of the late George W. and Virginia Robertson Watts. Earnest was an
electrician for Ensign Electric and was a member of the Rush Branch Church. A
brother, Arnold Watts also preceded him in death. Survivors include his loving
wife, Audrey Jewell Watts; four daughters, Sue Workman of Van, W.Va., Diana
Gilmour and husband Bruce of Van, Vanessa Faye Watts of Grayson, Ky., Christla
Gale Kelly and husband Jerry of Barboursville, W.Va.; two sons, Brady L. Watts
and wife Stacy of Kenova, W.Va., Dennis Watts and wife Cindy of Kenova, W.Va.;
two sisters, Janet Sue Stevens and husband John of Lavalette, W.Va., Diana Yoder

LOU HELEN TURNER, 88, of Lavalette, W.Va., passed
from this life January 4, 2010, at the Wayne Nursing and Rehab Center. Lou was
born on August 21, 1921, to the late Ham and Addie Bloss Turner. She was also
preceded in death by a sister, Emma Thompson, a brother, Clarence Turner, and
Sanders and Jewell Bloss, with whom she made her home for over 30 years.
Graveside services will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 6, 2010, at
the Bloss Cemetery, Dickson, W.Va. There will be no visitation. Reger Funeral
Home, Huntington, is in charge of arrangements. Special thanks to the staff and

RONALD PORTER, 65, of Wayne, W.Va., passed away
Wednesday, January 6, 2010, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in
Huntington, W.Va. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday, January
10, 2010, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, by Elders Tommy Damron and Roger
Maynard. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Wayne. He was born July 4,
1944, in Wayne County, a son of the late Claude and Madeline Osburn Porter. Ron
was a retired maintenance worker for the WV Department of Highways and was a
member of the Echo United Baptist Church. A daughter, Angela Dawn Porter, and
three brothers, Zenith, Glenn and Grady Porter, also preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Clora Napier Porter; a son, Timothy Scott Porter and
wife Anna Marie; a sister, Sadie Marie Porter; a brother, Shiloh Porter and wife
Brookie; and two grandchildren, Timothy Daniel Porter and Cynthia Dawn Porter,
all of Wayne; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. The family wishes to
extend special thanks to Hospice of Huntington, Larry Watts, and the Bradshaw

LOWELL CLEVELAND "REDD" STALEY, 63, of Lavalette,
WV, passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at St. Mary's Medical Center,
Huntington, WV. Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 11,
2010 at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, WV, by Pastor Ray Williamson. Burial
followed at Community Memorial Gardens, Wayne. He was born July 12, 1946 at
Wayne, WV, a son of the late James and Lucy Staley. Redd was a self-employed
plumber, and was a member of the Faith Freewill Baptist Church. He served with
the U. S. Navy during the Vietnam Era. Two brothers, Bennie Staley and Donald
Staley, two sisters, Gertrude Smith and Myrtle Staley, and a special niece,
Evelyn Marcum, also preceded him in death. Survivors include a a son, Joshua
Foley of Huntington, WV; a stepdaughter, Amanda Edwards of Huntington, WV; two
sisters, Leah Sykes and Blanche Staley of Columbus, OH; his niece's husband,
Vernon Marcum of Kenova, WV; and special friends Sharon Gilkerson, Rocky and
Nancy Stone, Rusty and Janet Ward, Gene and Chriss Tyler, and Bob and Kim
Maynard, and a host of other nieces, nephews and friends. In lieu of flowers,

CLIFTON "CLIFF" E. PERKINS, 71, U.S. Navy retired,
of Kenova, W.Va., passed away Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010, at his residence. He was
born Sept. 29, 1938, in Huntington, W.Va. He was preceded in death by his
mother, Una Miller Perkins Evans; and a brother, Jack A. Perkins. He is survived
by a daughter, Tammy Lynn Daniels; son-in-law, Fred E. of Boynton Beach, Fla.;
sons, Randy Alan Perkins of Huntington, W.Va., Jimmie Lee Perkins of Ona, W.Va.,
and Michael Dale Perkins of Lake Worth, Fla.; a brother, Raymond Perkins of
Lavalette, W.Va.; a sister, Helen (Sue) Leddy of Lavalette, W.Va.; two special
friends, Katie Estep and Richie Mills; three stepsons, Brandel (Carl) Pritchard
of Louisa, Ky., Billy Pritchard of California, and Allen Pritchard of Pensacola,
Fla.; and grandson, Jimmie Lee Perkins Jr. of Ona, W.Va. He served in the U.S.
Navy as a chief warrant officer and retired as a master chief petty officer. He
served on the Aircraft Carrier USS Franklin D. Roosevelt CVA-42, the Destroyer
Tender USS Yellowstone AD-27. He was a repair officer on the Command Ship USS
Right CC-2 and the Dock Landing Ship USS Shreveport LPD-12. He also served as an
instructor at the Naval School for Instructors, Norfolk, Va., and was an
instructor at The School for Damage Control Officers, Philadelphia Naval Base.
He was a life member of The Disabled American Veterans and a member of the
American Legion Post 16, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1064. Rollins Funeral
Home is in charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation or funeral

SARAH ANN ISAACS, 88, of Huntington, passed away
Friday, Jan. 8, 2010, at her residence. Funeral service will be conducted at 11

Napier officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Wayne, W.Va. She was
born Dec. 15, 1921, in Wayne County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Lindsey and
Laura Blankenship. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Russell
Lee Adkins; and her second husband, Lee Isaacs. She is survived by two sons,
Russell L. Adkins Jr. and his wife, Linda of Huntington, and Roger Dale Adkins
of Ashland, Ky.; two daughters, Frieda Thompson and her husband, Rudolph of
Chesapeake, Ohio, and Barbara Kitts and her husband, Donald of Proctorville,
Ohio; one sister, Sabra Rowe of Huntington; niece and dear friend, Hazel
Blankenship of East Lynn, W.Va.; 14 grandchildren; and numerous
great-grandchildren and other family members. Friends may call from 10 to 11

ROGER LEWIS ARTRIP, 61, of Leon passed away January
8, 2010. He is preceded in death by his father Ruben Artrip of Fort Gay. He is
survived by his mother Hildred T. Artrip, son Gregory Artrip of Hurricane, two
sisters Virginia Porter of Genoa and Loretta Wellman of Fort Gay, three
brothers; Billy Wayne Artrip of Louisa, Teddy Joe Artrip of Genoa and Gary
Artrip of South Point in addition to one grandchild. Funeral services are
scheduled for Monday January 11 at 11 a.m. at Youngs Chapel with Brother Lemael
Little and Rev. Frank Copley officiating. Burial will follow in the Wellman
Cemetery, Salt Petre.

MILDRED M. STRYKER, 83, of Shreve passed away
Friday, January 8, 2010 in West View Manor Nursing Home. She was born March 20,
1926 in Ft. Gay, WV., the daughter of Owen and Vada Thompson Frazier. She
married Lawrence D. Stryker on March 3, 1946. He died November 12, 2000. She was
a homemaker and had done housekeeping at Apple Creek Developmental Center.
Member of the Millbrook Community Church and the Women's Democratic Party.
Surviving are her children Bob (Ina) Stryker of Millersburg, Charles Stryker of
Wooster, Dennis (Carol) Stryker of Shreve, Maxine Hustead of New Pittsburg and
Raymond (Peggy) Stryker of Wooster; 16 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 1
great-great-grandchild, siblings, Juanita Cart of Anderson, IN, Minard Frazier
of Ft. Gay, Pearlene (Lan) Marcum of Louisa, KY and Mavis (Phillip) Thompson of
Hardy, VA. Friends will be received at the McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral
Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster on Monday, January 11, 2010 from 7-9:00 P.M.
Services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at 11:00

EDITH ANITA JACKSON, 84, of Huntington, W.Va.,
widow of Theodore D. "Ted" Jackson, died Friday, January 9, 2010, at Huntington
Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m.
Tuesday, January 12, 2010, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, W.Va., with
burial following at Elmwood Cemetery. She was born February 27, 1929, a daughter
of the late Charles and Sarah Kegley Shaw. Edith was a retired employee for the
State of West Virginia. Also preceding her in death were three half brothers,
Albert, Elmer and Ernest Hyrne and her companion for many years, Maurice Cottle.
Survivors include two sisters, Nellie Sexton of Columbus, Ohio, Flora Dunigan of
Tollesboro, Ky.; two brothers, Ora Shaw of Elyria, Ohio, and Alva Shaw of
Maysville, Ky.; a step-daughter Lexa L. Carr and husband Stanley Carr Jr. of St.
Louis, Mo.; a step-son Phillip D. Jackson and wife Joyce of Chesapeake, Ohio; a
step-granddaughter, Sandra Carr-Stover of St. Peters, Mo.; and three
step-grandsons, P. Scott Jackson and wife Michelle of Chesapeake, Ohio, Stanley
Carr III and wife Amy of St. Charles, Mo., and P. Mark Jackson and wife, Crystal

Mary Burns Parsons Blankenship. Marie retired from the Wayne County Clerk's
Office following 46 years of service and was active for many years in the Wayne
County Democrat Women's Club. She was a well-known political figure in Wayne
County for many years, serving as Democrat Committee Woman for Stonewall and
Union Districts. She was recognized as a "Distinguished West Virginian" by
former Gov. Gaston Caperton. Marie was also well-known as a vocalist with the
Gospel Echoes Quartet throughout the Tri-State area. She was a member of the
Lavalette Church of Christ. Her husband, Edgar Osburn, son Garry Osburn, sisters
Mary Ellen "Dixie" Parsons Sanders, Daisy Blankenship Gillette, Pinky
Blankenship Archer, and Mary Blankenship Perry, and a brother, Lucian
Blankenship, also preceded her in death. Survivors include a brother, Perle
Blankenship of East Lynn, W.Va.; daughter-in-law Faye Lycans Osburn Earley and
her husband John Michael Earley Sr., of Wayne, and a host of nieces, nephews and

Lord and staked his claim to the kingdom of heaven. He was a retiree of the
Laborers Local 543 and from his own business, Maynard Logging. He was a member
of the Masonic Blue Lodge in Crum, WV and was a 32 Degree Master Mason. Duke was
well loved throughout his community, especially by those he visited each
Christmas eve for 21 years. He will long be remembered by many as "Santa". Also
preceding him in death were a brother, Dallas Blaine Maynard, five sisters,
Tamsy Barker, Martha Jane Bailey, Eva Codman, Violet "Tiny" Masterson, and

1918, to the late Ernest F. and Ida Warf Adkins, Ruth graduated from Marshall
College and with a M.A. from Marshall University. She was preceded in death by
her parents; her devoted husband, James R. "Buster" Thomas; her beloved
daughter, Deloris Ann Baisden; her sister-in-law, Frieda Adkins; and
brother-in-law, Tom Davis. She began her 33-year career as a one-room school
teacher at schools near Beech Fork, and then took a break to marry and start a
family. After graduating from Marshall College, she taught at Kellogg
Elementary. Then she spent 17 years at Cox Landing Elementary, teaching fifth
and sixth grade. She was a member of Cox Landing United Methodist Church. She
also taught Sunday School and Bible School at Dillon Chapel and Cox's Landing
United Methodist churches, and was an active member of the Women's Mission
Society. Her greatest desire was for everyone to know Jesus as their Savior. She
served her community and family with all her heart. Surviving are her four
daughters, Mrs. Marla (Rossie) White, Mrs. Donna (John) Pinkerman, both of
Lesage, Mrs. Karen (Thomas) Losee of Sarasota, Fla., Mrs. Cheryl (Jerry) Ryder;

away Sunday, January 17, 2010, at the Huntington VA Medical Center. Graveside

Cemetery with Chaplain Frank Jarrell officiating. He was born July 13, 1929, in
Ceredo, W.Va. a son of the late Virgil and Grace Hughes Spradling. Clyde was the
owner and operator of Spradling Lawn Mower Repair in Kenova. He was a Korean War
veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy, and was a lifetime member of the
American Legion Post #93 whose Honor Guard will conduct graveside rites. He was
preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anna Mae Gwinn Spradling, three sisters
and four brothers. He is survived by two brothers John R. Spradling and Paul Ray
Spradling, both of Chesapeake, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family has

MRS. ROSE WORKMAN, 93, of Piney Fork of Harts,
W.Va., surrounded by her adoring family, went home to be with the Lord on
January 20, 2010. Born March 30, 1916, in Greenshoal, W.Va., she was the
daughter of the late Floyd and Delia Adkins Workman. She was preceded in death
by her husband, Raymond Workman, an infant son, Timothy Raymond Workman, sisters
Pauline Workman, and Virginia Toler, and great-grandchildren Michael Locascio
and Andrew Thomas. She was a devoted mother to Merlene (Ralph) Layfield, Janice
(Buddy) Thomas, Nellie Joyce (Waldo) Booth, Barbara (Ray) Ferrell, and Lois
(Bill) Mitchell. She was a loving Mammaw to 13 grandchildren, Rosemary Doss (Ted

23rd Psalm-, and John 3:16. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, reading her Bible,
and spending time with her large family. She left her family with an enduring
legacy to be a humble servant of God, and was a shining example of faith to all
who knew her. Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 23, 2010,
at the Workman Fork United Baptist Church with Brother Willie McClellan and Rev.
Manasses Hensley Jr., officiating. Burial will follow in the Workman Cemetery at

JAMES EDWARD STAMBAUGH, 59, of Prichard, W.Va.,
went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 21, 2010, at the Cabell
Huntington Hospital. Jim was born November 13, 1950, in Boyd County, Kentucky.
Jim proudly served his country during the Vietnam era in the U.S. Army. He was a
member of the First Independent Missionary Baptist Church of Kenova. He is
survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Billy Stambaugh. Other survivors
include his mother Maudie Stambaugh of Huntington; a brother, Don Stambaugh of
Virginia; a sister, Mary Hagley of Huntington; two sons, James Jr. and wife

Jan. 22, 2010, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Ms. Jervis was born June 4, 1938,

Jervis was preceded in death by her husband, Scott Jervis. Survivors include

Funeral service for 1SGT (ret.) JEFF LUCAS, 67 of
Lawton, OK, was at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, January 22, 2010 at Lawton Ritter Gray
Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Delbert Hughes, pastor of Lighthouse Church of God
and Rev. Greg Baxter, pastor of Lawton Baptist Tabernacle, officiating. Burial
was at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, Oklahoma with full military honors.
Mr. Lucas passed away on Monday, January 18, 2010 in Lawton. Jeff was born on
May 22, 1942 in Wayne County, West Virginia to Lewis and Bessie (Stapleton)
Lucas. He grew up in Wayne County and graduated from Wayne High School in 1960.
He joined the United States Army on October 31, 1960. He served in many
locations including three tours in Korea and three tours in Germany. He also
served in Panama, Fort Carson, Colorado and Fort Sill, Oklahoma. While serving
in the military, he received many medals including the National Defense Service
Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious
Service Medal with second oak leaf cluster, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas
Service Ribbon third award, Non Commissioned Officer Professional Development
Ribbon-3, Good Conduct Medal seventh award, and the Expert Rifle M-16 Award. He
married Runa Hazel Fletcher on August 31, 1963 in Moniville, West Virginia. They
traveled with the military and returned to Fort Sill, Oklahoma in 1977. Mr.
Lucas retired from the Army on October 31, 1982. He began his career with civil
service as a butcher and receiver at the Fort Sill Commissary where he worked
until 2004. He was a member of the Wild Life Refuge and the National Rifle
Association and was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoying the sport with his
brothers. He was a great outdoors man and enjoyed sitting on the front porch
with his best buddy, Clydie Stamper. He is survived by his beloved wife, Hazel,
of the home; his son and daughter in law, William Ray Lucas and Sheila Pinnright,
of Lawton; his daughter and son in law, Teresa and Jason Tompkins, Sr., of
Spangdahlem, Germany; his brother and sister in law, Bob and Mary Lou Lucas, of
Huntington, West Virginia; his sister, Nellie Lucas, of Wayne, West Virginia;
six grandchildren, Lauren Paige Tompkins, Brianna Lucas, Jason Tompkins, Jr.,
Emily Tompkins, Jessica Pinnright, and Matthew Pinnright; two great
grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of loving friends. He was
preceded in death by his parents; his son, Richard Lee Lucas; one brother,

WINFIELD MARTIN, 89, of Fort Gay passed away
Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at Woodland Oaks Health Care Center in Ashalnd, Ky.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 30 at 1 p.m. at the Salt Petre
Christian Baptist Church officiated by the Rev. Richard Maynard and Rev. Copley.
Burial followed at the Lynch Cemetery at Salt Petre, WV. Winfield was born June
18, 1920 in Louisa, Kentucky to the late Bill and Sarah Derefield Martin. He was
a carpenter foreman for the Norfork Western Railroad, an Army WWII veteran and
member of the Salt Petre Christian Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by
his wife, Mavis Martin. He is survived by one son, William "Bill" and wife
Tamala Martin of Argilite, Ky.; two sisters, Lucille Maynard of Mansfield, OH,
and Laverne Fitspatrick of Murfesboro, TN; two grandsons, Nicholas Winfield
Martin of Lexington, Ky. and William Tyler Martin of Argilite; two step
grandchildren, Jennifer Ducksorth of Cordova, TN., and Kenneth Brandon Morgan of
Lexington, Ky.

DONNA JEAN HANSHAW, 71, of Huntington, W.Va., died
Thursday, January 28, 2010, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in
Huntington. She was born September 12, 1938, in Kenova, W.Va., to the late Okey
and Oretha Mae Parsley Pack. Mrs. Hanshaw was a member of the Kenova Church of
God and a member of the Open Door Baptist Church of Huntington. She enjoyed
singing and was the Youth Group Leader of the Kenova Church of God for many
years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a husband,
Clifford Stapleton, a son, David "Terry" Reynolds, and a brother, Larry A. Pack.
Survivors include a husband, Harold Hanshaw Sr.; a daughter Tamara "Tammy" Renee
Reynolds Hayes and her husband Phillip of Aurora, Mo.; step-children Raymond
Stapleton, Donna Stapleton, both of Wise County, Va.; a sister, Juanita and Mike
Aliff of Huntington; a brother, David H. Pack of Kenova; and two sisters-in-law,
Audrey Short of Wise, Va., and Liz Pack of Memphis, Tenn. Additional survivors
include nine grandchildren, Heather Hodge Moore and Tiffany Hodge of Rapid City,
S.D., David T. Reynolds II of Kenova, Amanda Reynolds Harper, Whitney Reynolds
of Ceredo, T.C. Reynolds, Elisha Reynolds, Bradley Stapleton, Delenn Stapleton;
four great-grandchildren, Keagan Hodge-Kor, Kenton Mayhone, Kortlyne Mayhone,
and Destiny Reynolds, along with 10 nieces and nephews and a host of other
relatives and friends. The family would like to give a special thank you to Lisa
Gray Broce for her care, and Tony and Sally Hanshaw for their support. The

Dolin Jones Hospice House or the Ceredo Volunteer Fire Department. These may be

EARL R. DAVIS, 70, of Shoals, W.Va., passed away
Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010, at the Hospice House of Huntington. He was born April
29, 1939, in Huntington, W.Va., to the late William Earl and Tiny Mae Kirk
Davis. He is survived by his wife, Jerry Sue Davis; two sons, Earl Davis Jr. of
Proctorville, Ohio, and Robert W. Davis of Wayne, W.Va.; five grandchildren; and
one great-grandson. He was a retired insurance salesman. He was an avid car
enthusiast, an original member of the 55-plus softball league in Chesapeake,
Ohio, and attended Marshall University. Funeral services will be conducted 2
p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010, at Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville, Ohio. Burial

MARY FRANCES WHEELER, 84, of Kenova, W.Va., died
Friday, January 29, 2010, at Huntington Health and Rehabilitation Center in

Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery. Mary was born January 10, 1926, in
Lincoln County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Henry and Sarah Ellen Stevenson
Sloan. She was a member of the First Independent Missionary Baptist Church in
Kenova. She is survived by her beloved husband, Robert Daniel Wheeler; one
daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Milford Frazier of Kenova; one son and
daughter-in-law, Daniel Neal and Judy Ann Wheeler of Fitzgerald, Ga.; one
granddaughter, Kelly Light of Kingsport, Tenn.; three grandsons, Terry and John

WESLEY D. OSBURN, born Feb. 19, 1934, in Wayne
County, W.Va., died Jan. 29, 2010, of respiratory disease at home in
Westerville, Ohio, surrounded by his family. Wesley, the son and stepson of Vena
and Harold Sullivan, was a member of Northside Fellowship Church and is survived
by Wanda, his loving wife of 56 years; and their children, Pamela (Jeffrey)
Schwartz, Rodney (Cynthia) Osburn and Jeffrey (Diane) Osburn. Also surviving are
his mother, Vena Day Sullivan; mother-in-law, Tressa Dalton; brothers and
sisters, Jim (Iva) Sullivan, Mary Lou (Jerry) Mason, Tom (Karen) Sullivan and
Gary (Dona) Osburn; 10 grandchildren; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and
cousins. Wesley was a proud graduate of the 1951 class of Wayne High School,
followed by enlistment in 1952 in the United States Navy, serving four years
aboard the aircraft carrier USS Princeton CVS 37 during the Korean Conflict.
Wesley married Wanda Lou Baker, also of Wayne, in 1953. Upon discharge from the
U.S. Navy in 1956, Wesley began his 53-year career in the vegetation management
industry, specializing in vegetation control across the entire U.S. railroad
system. In 1971, Wesley joined John B. Roy and RWC Inc. of Westfield, Mass., to
develop and grow a company with the help of several dedicated employees, that
today is an industry leader and continues to service railroads throughout much
of the United States with operations in Westerville, Ohio, Westfield, Mass., and
Memphis, Tenn. In addition to his work, Wesley and Wanda together enjoyed
travel, their family and friends, and proudly claimed to have visited all 50
states many times over. Wesley served as officer in a number of professional
organizations and private enterprises, was an avid sportsman and thoroughly
enjoyed every opportunity to fish, hunt and attend OSU football games in the
company of his family and friends. Wesley enjoyed and rarely missed an
opportunity to attend a reunion of his family, his high school class and his
Navy shipmates. It was Wesley's wish and the family to acknowledge with
appreciation and gratitude the constant presence, support and prayers of his
family, friends and dedicated and compassionate caregivers, Angela, Tera, Annie
and Dempsey, and Mt. Carmel Hospice. Friends may call at the Moreland Funeral

MELDA MARCUM, 83, of Genoa, WV, passed away Friday,
January 29, 2010 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington. Funeral services
will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 2 at Morris Funeral Home
Chapel, Wayne, WV, by Bro. Everett Meddings and Elder Roger Maynard. Burial will
follow at the Pratt Cemetery at Radnor, WV. She was born October 12, 1926 in
Wayne County, WV, a daughter of the late Moses Denver and Lutie Pratt Marcum.
Melda was a retired teacher for the Wayne County Board of Education and a member
of the Highlawn Baptist Church. A son, David Phillips, and brothers Moses
Marcum, Jr. and infants Samuel Dewey and L.B., Marcum, also preceded her in
death. Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Joyce Phillips; four sisters, Jean
Haynes and Mary Haynes of Dandridge, TN, Faye Wright of Whittier, NC, and Martha
Coleman of Radnor, WV; a granddaughter, Kimberly Meddings and husband, Howard of
Radnor, WV, and two great-grandchildren, Adrian Porter and husband, Alex, and

SAM J. ISAAC, 81, of Fort Gay passed away on Jan.
29, 2010. He was preceded in death by his parents Sam Isaac and Eva Pratt Isaac.
He is survived by his wife Claria W. Isaac of Fort Gay, three daughters; Judy
Isaac of Fort Gay, Christina Cox of Rittman, Ohio and Dottie Spitaleri of
Rittman, Ohio, two sons; Turman Isaac of Rittman and Richard Isaac of Rittman,
one sister Lotus Williams of Mansfield, Ohio and two brothers; William Isaac of
Ashland, Ohio and John Isaac of North Carolina in addition to seven
grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Funeral services were scheduled

JAMES "MARTIN" LEMASTER, 70, of Fort Gay went home
to be with his heavenly father Thursday, January 29, 2010. He was born to the
late Manforf and Alka Lemaster on March 9, 1939 in Louisa, Kentucky. He married
Norma Genevieve Godby in April 1957 and they lived in Louisa before relocating
to Fort Gay in 1980. Martin was passionate about serving the Lord. He was a
great counselor to many, especially his children and grandchildren. Martin was
an active member of Old Hood United Baptist Church. He loved singing and being
with his spiritual brothers and sisters. Martin is survived by his loving widow
Norma Genevive Godbey Lemaster and four children: Debra Cyrus and husband Larry
Cyrus, Jim Lemaster, Ronald Lemaster, deceased and Steven Lemaster. He also is
survived by four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, whom he loved very
much. Funeral services were scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at Young Funeral Home
Chapel. Burial was at the Fairchild-Lemaster Cemetery with Elder Hobert Eugene
May and Elder Johnny Molette officiating.

ELVA SUE LEVERING, 44, of Kenova, W.Va., went to be
with the Lord Saturday, January 30, 2010. She was born May 19, 1965 in
Huntington, W.Va. Her mother, Shirley Adkins preceded her in death along with
her father, Ollie Mills, and two brothers, Ollie Mills, Jr., and Rocky Mills.
Survivors include three daughters, Susan Levering and her husband-to-be, Daniel
Workman, Josephine "Nikki" Towler, all of Kenova, and Latasha Mills of
Huntington; three brothers, Ronnie Mills of Kenova, Bradley Mills and his wife
Crissy of Huntington, and Clyde Mills of Kenova; three grandchildren, Daniel
Workman II, Trista Workman, both of Kenova, and Shaylen Cloninger of Huntington;
special aunt June McCoy of Huntington; Janice Richards, who was a sister at
heart; and a host of friends and family too numerous to mention. Funeral
services will be conducted 12:30 p.m. Thursday, February 4, 2010 at Johnson

WILMA J. FERGUSON, 76, of Huntington, widow of
Irvin Ferguson, passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2010, at the Emogene Dolin
Jones Hospice House in Huntington after a prolonged illness of Pulmonary
Fibrosis. She was born on March 17, 1933, in Grayson, Ky., a daughter to the
late Everett and Amelia Pope. She was a member of Walnut Hills Nazarene Church
and was retired from Bailey's Cafeteria after 20-plus years of service. In
addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers
Roy, Paul, Elwood and Phillip Pope. She is survived by her daughters, Dianne
Hoover and her husband Harold "Ed" of Milton, W.Va., and Martha Ferguson of
Huntington; grandsons Michael Ferguson of Huntington and Joshua Hoover of
Milton; great-granddaughter Katlyn Ferguson of Huntington; brothers Walter Pope
of Brookville, Ohio and Gene Pope of Grayson, Ky.; sisters Kathleen (Richard)
Everman of Olive Hill, Ky., Sandra (Clyde) Lewis of Sandy Hook, Ky., and Joy

late James Floyd and Ina Missouri Garner Rider. He was a former employee with
Houdaille Industries; a member of the Wayne Baptist Church; and a veteran of the
U.S. Army, having served in World War II. In addition to his parents, he was
preceded in death by his wife, Martha Boyd Rider; three brothers, Cephas J.
Rider, Clarence M. Rider and William H. Rider; and four sisters C.B. Brantley,
Josephine Owens, Cynthia E. Scott and Johnnie Belle West. Survivors include a
special daughter Martha Ann Fry, who was reared by Floyd and his wife Martha,
and her family whom he adopted and loved as his own, her son Jeffrey Fry and his
wife Tonia and their children Ben and Emily Fry and her daughter Jill Parsons
and her husband Danny and their children Jacey, Rileigh and Baylee Parsons and
