NELSON K. BURKS,
61, of Richmond, Va., passed away November 2, 2010. He was born in Wayne County,
West Virginia, on December 9, 1948 to the late Stanley N. Burks and Eva Spears
Burks. He is survived by his sister, Cheryl Hodge and her husband Richard; niece
Valerie Hodge of Huntington, W.Va.; nephew R. Scott Hodge, his wife Pamela, and
their children Alexis, Cameron, and Carson. Nelson graduated from Ceredo-Kenova
High School in Kenova, W.Va., and was a graduate of WV Tech. He retired from
Dominion Power as a consulting engineer. He was a member of the Huguenot Road
Baptist Church, a former assistant fire chief and treasurer of the Bon Air Fire
Department, an officer in the Old Dominion Chapter and Board member of the
National Railway Historical Society. The family will receive friends from 1:30
to 3 p.m., on Sunday, November 7, at the Huguenot Chapel of Woody Funeral Home,
1020 Huguenot Road, Midlothian, Va. Services will be held at 3 p.m., on Sunday,
November 7, at the funeral home with Dr. Bert Browning officiating. Interment
will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery, Kenova, W.Va., on Tuesday, November 9, at
1 p.m. with Pastor Rodney Hale officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial

WAITMAN DAVIS SR., 87, of Barboursville, W.Va.,
went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 3, 2010, at the Emogene Dolin
Jones Hospice House. Waitman was born February 21, 1923, in Wayne County, to the
late Leo and Polly Keck Davis. Waitman was the owner of Davis Variety Store. He
was a flower salesman for over 53 years, and a root and ginseng dealer for over
38 years. He enjoyed his work and his cutomers. Waitman was a longtime member of
Gethsemane United Baptist Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher for many
years. Waitman enjoyed playing his many musical instruments, singing and writing
songs. He is survived by two daughters, Linda Clark of Apple Grove, W.Va., and
Cathy Adkins of Branchland, W.Va.; two sons, James (Shirley) Smith of Ellenboro,
W.Va., and Waitman Davis Jr. (Frances) of Branchland; eight grandchildren, Rick
(Lisa) Smith, Cindy (Neal) Morgan, Misty, Michael, and Brandon Clark,
Christopher Adkins, Wesley and Cassie Davis; two great-grandchildren, Michaela
and Shelby Smith; one brother, Ransom (Ellie) Davis; one sister, Ola "Sis"
Baker; special buddy, Sissy; special friends Buddy Merritt, Bobby Burns and
Jonah Adkins; and numerous other family and friends. Waitman is preceded in
death by his parents, his wife of 34 years Louise Hesson Davis; three brothers,
Virgil, Cazzie and Curtis Davis; two sisters, Reba Adkins and Murl Bradshaw; two
sons-in-law, Robert Clark, and Joel Adkins; The family would like to thank
Hospice of Huntington and Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. Friends may call

CONRAD HARDEN BROWN, 79, of Ceredo, passed away
Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington.
He was born Nov. 6, 1930, in Cabell County to the late Roy Harden and Wilma
Josephine (Banks) Brown. Mr. Brown proudly served his country in the U.S. Army
during the Korean War. He was a member of the Ceredo Methodist Church. Mr. Brown
was retired from the State of West Virginia Highway Department and was a 35-year
member of the Kenova American Legion Post 93. He united in marriage to Ruth
(Runyon) Brown, who survives. Other survivors include his stepchildren, Brenda
(Donald) Sherwood of New York, Becky Wallace, Michael Wallace; eight
grandchildren, Melissa Sherwood and Jon Nagy, Jamie (Bryan) Sherwood, Taryn
Fletcher, Jennifer (David) Gray, Lauren Brown, Niko, Joey and Johnny Wallace;
along with 10 great-grandchildren; and best friends, James and Norma Spence.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Ceredo-Kenova
Funeral Home with Pastor Scott Byard officiating. Burial will follow in the
Crescent Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8
p.m. Monday at the funeral home. The family requests expressions of sympathy

JOHN WESLEY ROBERTS, 90, of South Point, Ohio,
widower of Margaret M. "Peggy" Roberts, whom he married on July 4, 1946, passed
from this life Wednesday, November 3, 2010, at the Community Hospice Care
Center, Ashland, Ky. He was born August 20, 1920 in Wayne County, W.Va., a son
of the late Clarence and Stella Bates Roberts. Mr. Roberts was a retired
machinist from the H.K. Porter Company and a World War II veteran, having served
in the U.S. Marine Corps. He also attended the Chesapeake Church of the Nazarene
and was a member of the Proctorville VFW Post 6878. Funeral services will be
conducted by Pastor Paul Merritt at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 7, 2010, at the
Reger Funeral Chapel with burial to follow at the Highland Memorial Gardens,
South Point, Ohio. In addition to his parents, and wife he was preceded in death
by his son Bobby John Roberts, three brothers, Kingston, Lloyd and Donald
Roberts, three sisters, Aris Lee Adams, Alma Elkins and Arlene Graham, as well
as a great-granddaughter, Kristie Smith. Survivors include one son, Jim Roberts
(Debbie) of Las Vegas, Nev.; three daughters, Kay (Bob) Strank of Fairborn,
Ohio, Barbara (Chuck) Black of Monroe, Ohio, and Linda Williams of Richmond, Ky.
In addition,10 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and four great-
great-grandchildren, one brother, Clarence Roberts Jr., and a sister-in-law
Blanche Roberts, survive him as well. Contributions may be made to Community

JENNINGS CLARK, of East Lynn, WV, died Thursday,
November 4, 2010 at Emagene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington. Funeral
services will be conducted 11:00 am Monday, November 8, 2010 at Morris Funeral
Home Chapel by Brother Tommy Staley. Burial will follow at Asbury Cemetery, East
Lynn, WV. He was born June 8, 1926 in Wayne County, WV, a son of the late Samuel
and Stella Clark. Also preceding him in death was his wife, Sadie Clark; a
sister, Virginia Rice; and a brother, Jake Clark. Survivors include a sister,
Stella Ferguson of Wayne, WV, and Jasper Clark of Kunkletown, PA. Friends may

GREGORY RAY KILPATRICK, 45, of Lavalette , WV, went
to be with the Lord Thursday, November 4, 2010 at his residence. Funeral
services will be conducted 1:00 pm Sunday, November 7, 2010 at Morris Funeral
Home Chapel by Brother A. J. Perry. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. He
was born February 9, 1965 in Joliette, IL, a son of Raymond Harold Kilpatrick of
Lexington, SC and the late Freda Stewart Kilpatrick. Greg was formerly employed
at Special Metals. Survivors include his loving wife, Ruth Ann Wells Kilpatrick;
a daughter, Casey Talbert and husband, J. D. of Lavalette, WV; a son, Ethan
Kilpatrick of Lavalette, WV; three sisters, Joyce McFedrick of Lexington, SC,
Patricia Adkins and Sharon Farmer of Wayne, WV; two brothers, Wayne Kilpatrick
of Wayne, WV and Randall Kilpatrick of Branchland, WV; two grandchildren,
Elizabeth Ann Talbert and Olivia Jean Talbert. The family will receive friends

JAMES W. BRADWHAW, 86, of Wayne, W. Va. went to be
with the Lord Thursday, November 4, 2010. He was born September 16, 1924 in
Wayne County, a son of the late Golden and Naomi Bradshaw. He leaves behind his
wife of 65 years, Vida Simpkins Bradshaw of Wayne; two sons James Bradshaw and
wife Linda of Lavalette, W. Va., and Roger Bradshaw of Wayne; one grandson ,
Jeffrey Bradshaw and two great granddaughters, Shannon Bradshaw and Summer
Bradshaw all of Florida. Also surviving is one brother George Bradshaw and wife
Zelma of Wayne; special nieces and nephews; and a host of friends and neighbors
too numerous to mention. Private services were conducted 1 p.m Saturday,
November 6, 2010 at the Everett Adkins Cemetery. Johnson Tiller Funeral Home was
honored to serve the Bradshaw family.

ALLIE MARCUM, 86 of Crum, WV. went to be with the
lord on Thursday, November, 4, 2010 at Three Rivers Medical Center. Born
November 23, 1923 in Wayne Co, WV, she was a daughter of the late Harrison and
Elizabeth Wooten Stroud. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jess Marcum
as well as one grandson, Lacey Charles Marcum. She was a homemaker and a member
of the Silver Creek United Baptist Church. She is survived by three sons and
five daughters; Lacey (Barb) Marcum of Crum, WV, Freddie (Betty) Marcum of Ft.
Gay, WV, Girl (Stella) Marcum of Crum, WV, Mary Ann Marcum of Crum, WV, Nary
Jean (Rick) Preston of Dunlow, Deborah Mae (Alvie) Parsley of Kermit, WV,
Darlene (Roger) Swimm of East Lynn, WV and Barbara Willis of Genoa, WV as well
as 17 grandkids, and 25 great-grandkids. Funeral services will be conducted on
Saturday, November 6, 2010 at 1 pm at the Silver Creek United Baptist Church
with Troy Stroud officiating. Burial will follow in the Marcum Cemetery of Crum,
WV. Visitation will be from 6-9 pm on Friday at the Richmond-Callaham Funeral

NINA MAE ADKINS, 79, of Westmoreland, passed away
on Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010, at the St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington. She
was born Feb. 15, 1931, in Wayne County to the late Wilbur and Vicie (Preston)
Saulton. She united in marriage to Kenneth Adkins, who preceded her in death. To
this union were born Kenneth ( Frances) Adkins, Debbie ( Tucker) Lynch, Larry
Adkins, who also preceded her in death, and Shawn ( Kimberly Bartram) Adkins.
Mrs. Adkins is survived by sisters, Anna Faye Toney and Edna (Lawrence)
Thompson; and a brother, Jerry (Libby) Saulton; along with grandchildren, Kenny
Ray Adkins, Nicholas Adkins, Cody Lynch, Tanner Lynch and Kathy (Brandon) Adkins
Dudding. Other survivors include her dear friends, Nellie Ettling and Rachel
Lackey; along with a host of other relatives and friends. Mrs. Adkins was a
loving mother and grandmother, who enjoyed cooking for her family, listening to
Gospel music and sewing. She was a member of the Westmoreland Baptist Church and
the Choir, Westmoreland Womens Club, American Business Womens Club, Red Hats and
was Past Worthy Matron of Ceredo Eastern Star, who will have a service at the
church beginning at 11 a.m. Mrs. Adkins worked many years at the family owned
Kenneth Adkins & Sons Insurance Agency. Funeral services will be at Westmoreland
Baptist Church, Monday, Nov. 8, at 1 p.m. with Pastor C. J. Adkins officiating.
Burial will follow in the Spring Valley Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from

ALMA JEAN WARD, 74, of Prichard, W.Va., went home
to be with the Lord on Friday, Nov. 5, 2010. Our hearts are saddened, but we
know we will see her again. Jean was the wife of James "Jim" Ward for 53 years.
Together they have three children, Janice (Danny) Newman, James Ward Jr. and
Carol (Mike) Ronk; and five grandchildren, Jason and Brianna Newman, Kasey Ward,
and Megan and Mandie Ronk. Jean was an employee of American National Rubber for
30 years. She loved to go to church, sing and play the piano. She leaves behind
a host of people who loved her. The family would like to thank the ladies of
Locust Grove Baptist Church and all those who sent food. Thank you to the
wonderful people of Hospice of Huntington and also to those at the Hospice
House. Your special love and caring helped us so much. Visitation will be at

BERTA HELEN KIDD PINSON, 88, beloved wife, mother
and grandmother, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 2010, in Columbia, S.C. Born Sept. 9,
1922, in Wayne County W.Va., to Joseph J. and Jennie Napier Kidd, Berta
graduated from Ceredo-Kenova High School in 1938, afterwards attended the
Huntington Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. Her plans for joining the WWII
war effort were halted by her marriage to a handsome soldier, James William
Pinson of Ceredo, her husband of 63 years. Berta continued her interest in
medicine, volunteering for The American Red Cross while caring for her husband
and two daughters. She delighted in laughter and shared times around the family
table as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and considered her
family to be her greatest legacy. Berta was a member of The First Baptist Church
of Ceredo for 72 years, belonging to the Five W Sunday school class. She was
preceded in death by her husband; her parents; brothers Emmett, Wilburn, Joe and
Bobby Kidd; sisters Dorothy Thompson and Anna Lee Lyons. Berta is survived by
her daughters, Phyllis P. Capehart of Arlington, Texas and Marsha G. Adkins and
husband Gary N. Adkins of Columbia, S.C.; grandchildren, Dr. Bruce P. Capehart
and wife Dr. Tracey Holsinger of Chapel Hill, N.C., Melissa G. Grubbs of
Columbia, S.C., J. Alex Capehart of Santa Monica, Calif., and R. Aaron Grubbs of
Augusta, Ga.; great-grandchildren Matthew Grubbs of Columbia S.C., Virginia and
Camille Capehart of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Benjamen and Juliette Capehart of
Santa Monica, Calif.; nephew Dr. James E. Kidd of Harrisonburg, Va.; nieces
Gwendolyn Baker of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Linda Brewster of Huntington,

ELSIE CROCKETT NAPIER, 99-years, 8-months, and 1-day old, of Huntington,
W.Va., passed away Monday, November 8, 2010. Graveside services will be
conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Crockett Family Cemetery, Wayne County,
W.Va., by Pastor Don Irby. Burial will follow. Elsie was born March 7, 1911, in
Wayne County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Henry and Victoria Stephens
Crockett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband
Fred Napier, two sons, Lemuel and Samuel Napier, four brothers and five sisters.
Elsie came to Huntington with her husband of 45 years Fred Napier. Elsie's home
reflected her many talents and abilities, including quilt making, crochet works
and her flower and vegetable gardening and her canning. Survivors include two
daughters and a son-in-law, Freda Bays of Huntington, and Doris and Jackson
Kelley of Crown City, Ohio; four grandchildren, Susan Kelley-Jarrell, Jacqueline
(Mike) Jones, Jason Kelley and Samuel (Melissa) Bays; five great-grandchildren
Seth and Luke Jarrell, Anthony Jones and Alexia and Shad Bays; two great-
great-grandchildren Anna and Maddox Jones. The family would like to extend a
special thank you to special friend Odell Nelson, family members Maudie Sue and
George Kermeans, Alicia Grayson and each staff member at Grayson's Caring Hands

DAVID TIM JARRELL, 49, of Dunlow, WV, went to be
with the Lord Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at Twin City Hospital in Dennison, OH.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 am Saturday, November 13, 2010 at
Morris Funeral Home Chapel by Minister Connie Evans and Deacon Eugene Sammons.
Burial will follow at Twin Oaks Cemetery. He was born December 3, 1960 in
Barberton, OH, a son of David and Nennie Irene Ferguson Jarrell of Dunlow, WV.
Tim was formerly a corrections officer at the Wayne County Jail and was an
active member of God's Full Gospel Church in Dunlow, WV. Survivors include his
loving wife, Omethia Prince Jarrell; two daughters, Causby Carson and husband,
Chris of Wayne, WV, Angela Stroud and husband, Eric of Gallipolis Ferry, WV;
four grandchildren, Kyrsten Stroud, Gavin Carson, Kyleigh Stroud, Jocelann

EVELYN CATHLEEN NAPIER BAKER, age 86 of Waldo,
Ohio, passed away Tuesday afternoon, November 9, 2010, at Grady Memorial
Hospital. She was born May 26, 1924, on Wilson Creek in Wayne, W.Va., to French
and Elizabeth Napier. Evelyn loved to cook and sew, and was a founding member of
Christ The King Community Church of Fredericktown, Ohio. She is deeply grieved
by her surviving family, sons and duaghters Muriel Goodman, Gail (O'Dell) Bills,
Ronald (Shawn) Baker, Teresa (Gary) Okicki, Lucian (Jill) Baker; granddaughters
Sherry Lilly, Kimberly Hawk, Georgia Packwood, Tammy Watts, Nannette Baker,
Elizabeth Camacho and Tiffany Skaggs; grandsons Gallie Goodman Jr., Thomas
Baker, Ronald Baker Jr., Daniel Baker, John Unkefer II, Stephen Baker; two
great-grandchildren and four great- great-grandchildren; sister Virgie Baker and
two brothers, Russell and Arty Napier. She is preceded in death by her husband,
Raymond Ezra Baker; a son Raymond Dale Baker; son-in-law Gallie Goodman; 15
brothers and sisters. Calling hours will be held at Christ The King Community
Church, 15598 McClelland Road, Fredericktown, Ohio, on Friday, November 12,
2010, from 3 to 6 p.m. with funeral services to follow at 6 p.m., with Rev. Andy

After a brave four-year battle with Alzheimer's, MAXINE
RUTH WITHROW EARL, 90, of Morehead, Kentucky, formerly of Huntington,
W.Va., went to be with the Lord, November 10, 2010, while at the Community
Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Kentucky. She was born October 25, 1920, in
Wayne County, West Virginia, to Clarence and Edith Withrow. She was preceded in
death by her husband of 63 years, Z. Taylor Earl; her two infant sons; her
brother, Gene Withrow; and her sister, Oretha N. White. She is survived by her
daughter, Dr. E. Noel Earl of Morehead, Kentucky, and several nieces and
nephews. She also leaves behind her two beloved dogs, Sunny and Priss. Her
generous and unselfish life was inspirational to many. Her final act of
generosity was to donate her body to the Human Gift Registry of Marshall
University. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A celebration
of her life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 4, 2010, at Chapman's
Mortuary, Huntington. The family will begin receiving friends at 10 a.m. In lieu

RONALD CYDNOR MclNTURF, 81, of Huntington, W.Va.,
formerly of Morgan County, Ohio, passed away at home on Wednesday, November 10,
2010. He was born February 3, 1929 in Penn Township, Ohio, a son of the late
Lawrence and Lucille Mclnturf. His wife, Edna Canady Mclnturf also preceded him
in death along with one sister, Grace Kline and three brothers, Albert, Wayne,
and Ralph. Ronald served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and was
baptized at the Solomon Lutheran Church in Eagleport, Ohio, where he attended.
He loved helping friends and family and especially enjoyed woodworking and
making things. Survivors include daughters, Debbie VanDorston, of North Canton,

away Thursday morning November 11, 2010. She was the wife of the late Jay
Blankenship and the mother of the late Charles A. Leibee of Huntington. She has

Blankenship of Jackson, OH and two surviving daughters, Pam Blankenship of Wayne

away peacefully at home with her daughters by her side, on Thursday, November
11, 2010. She is now in heaven with daddy, whom she has missed dearly these last

ANN MARIE O'DELL was born July 27, 1953, in
Norfolk, Va., to William and Helen Cignoni and died Nov. 13, 2010, at Cabell
Huntington Hospital. She was raised in Ashland, Ky., attended Ashland Public
Schools and graduated from King's Daughters School of Nursing in 1973, and
received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree from Ohio University in 1990.
She worked at Mercy Hospital, Portsmouth, Ohio, King's Daughters Hospital,
Ashland, Ky., and took an early retirement from the Veterans Administration
Medical Center in 2001, after 25 years of service. She also worked part-time at
the health clinic for Special Metals and as a staff nurse for Cabell Huntington
Hospital. After 34 years experience, she finally retired in 2007 due to health
conditions. Ann enjoyed her experiences through the years as a nurse, nurse
manager and case manager. She held a special place in her heart for all veterans
of the armed forces. Her mother, Helen Cignoni, preceded her in death; along
with her maternal grandparents, Franklin Wilder and Rosa Tuminelli; paternal
grandparents, Alfred and Edith Cignoni; and several aunts and uncles. Survivors
include her loving husband of 29 years, Clyde O'Dell; her combined family of
five children, Michael R. O'Dell Sr. and wife Beverly, Christy VanZandt and
husband Robert, Susan Thacker and husband Christopher, Solomon O'Dell, Rachel
Elkins and husband Benjamin; 11 grandchildren, whom she loved more than
anything; her father, William Cignoni and wife Norma; sister, Nancy Gainer and
spouse Robert; two brothers, Robert Cignoni, James Cignoni and wife Bonnie;
numerous nieces and nephews and cousins; two aunts, Ruth Obando and Marilyn
Loomis. She enjoyed hobbies of reading, sewing quilts and other homemade items
for her family, sports, and was a fan of Wayne High School softball, Marshall
University and West Virginia University. She will be greatly missed by all she

after enduring a prolonged illness. He was born April 26, 1941 in Kanawha
County, W. Va., the eldest son of the late Harry E. and Alma Thomas Boyce. Two
sisters, Joann Boyce and Louise Lawson also preceded him in death, along with
one brother, Lester Boyce. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Della Napier
Boyce; three sisters, Karen Erskine of Sophia, W.Va. Francis Patton of Tampa,
Florida, and Janice Burns of Elizabethtown, Kentucky; brothers-in-law, Harold
Erskine and Bill Burns; special friends Delores Jarrell, Herman Perry and Denny

Manchin. She holds the record for having never missed voting in an election for
over 70 years. She is survived by her son, Bob Bailey of Huntington; daughter

passed away at her home on November 20, 2010. She was born on November 25, 1931
in Wayne County to the late David and Georgia Cyrus Copley. She united in
marriage to Robert (Bobby) Crockett of East Lynn on June 18, 1948. To this union
was born two daughters; Linda (Roger) Starkey and Georgia Phyllis (Abraham)
Beottcher; five grandchildren; Obie (Lisa) Adkins II, Roger (Claire) Starkey,
Todd (Crystal) Adkins, Eleasha Adkins and Robert (Kimberly) Starkey. Great
grandchildren include Amanda Mays, Caleb Mays, Kaleigh Humphries, Ryan Hunter
Starkey, Andrew Cole Starkey, Devon Paul Starkey, Gage Colton Starkey and
Jessica Taylor Starkey in addition to two great-great- grandchildren; Keira and
Kaden. Other survivors include one brother, Reuben (Violet) Copley of Wayne,
three sisters, Lucille Wilson of Genoa, Lizabeth (Russell) Watts of Echo, and
Opal Fleming of Terry, Georgia. Ruth was a member of Echo Baptist Church in
Wayne and Orchard Hill Baptist Church in Georgia. She was a member of the
American Association of Nursing. Mrs. Crockett worked for many years as a nurse
in West Virginia and Georgia until she was 72 years old. Funeral services will

by his wife, Maedell Adkins; two sons, Gary Adkins and Mark Adkins; one brother,
Franklin Adkins. He is survived by his two sons and daughter, Michael Adkins and

FRED MCCOY JR., 81, of Huntington, W.Va., went home
to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010. He was a retired coal miner and
grocery store proprietor born Aug. 22, 1929, to the late Fred and Carrie (Jude)
McCoy. He united in marriage to Madeline (Wingler) McCoy. To this union were
born nine children, Larry McCoy, Phillip (Ann) McCoy, Kevin McCoy, Scott McCoy,
Darren (Beverly) McCoy, Angie McCoy and Ericka (Gary) Gillman. He was reunited
in heaven with his dearly beloved mother, father, daughter, Sharon Kay; son,
Shawn Eric McCoy; grandson, Rocco Ramey; and two brothers, Hiram McCoy and Earl
McCoy. He will be remembered with love and affection by his wife, children and
eight grandchildren, Misty Dawn (Danny) Marshall, Freddie McCoy, David McCoy,
Lisa (Andy) Sisler, Christopher McCoy, Michael McCoy, Tessa Ramey and Savanna
Gillman; 10 great-grandchildren; seven sisters and two brothers; along with a
host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Fred was a devout
Christian with a kind and gentle soul. Serving the Lord and sharing the word of
God brought him much happiness. He was a cherished family man, husband and
soulmate to Madeline for 61 years, a wise, nurturing father and grandfather, a

WILLARD VIRGIL "WILLIE" BROWNING, 49, of Wayne,
W.Va., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 24, 2010. He was
born July 30, 1961 in Columbus, Ohio, the beloved son of Virgil and Betty
Browning. In addition to his parents, survivors include two sisters and
brothers-in-law, Debra and Robert Miller and Jeannie and Jakie Vaughan; two
nephews, Donald Browning and his wife Lilly, and Michael Vaughan and wife
Camillia; four nieces, Melissa Aliff, Crystal Vaughan, Samantha Miller and
Stephanie Staley. Also surviving are eight great-nephews, Dylan Burnette, Chase
Vaughan, Justin Perry, Jarrod Perry, Steven Sergent, Brian Garn, Brandon
Schwalback, and Ishmeal Schwalback; two great-nieces, Abigail and Madison
Browning; and a host of aunts, uncles and many friends. Willie carried a deep
love for Jesus that he used to warm the hearts of everyone he came into contact
with. Willie is no longer bound to a wheelchair, but instead he is walking down

worship songs to her Lord. "Aunt Gin" was like a mother to her nieces and

LUTHER HODGE JR., 84, of Kenova, W.Va., passed away
quietly at home on Saturday, November 27, 2010. Friends and family can call from

14, 1926, a son of the late John Luther and Molly Workman Hodge. He was a
lifelong servant and friend of God and served as a deacon and trustee in his
church. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy Seebees and a retired
locomotive engine operator at AK Steel. Luther is survived by the love of his
life, to whom he was married 65 years, his wife Aveanell Ruth Meredith Hodge. In
addition, he is survived by his beloved children, his four daughters and
sons-in-law, Suzette and Russell Stevens, Sharon and Joe Ball, Sandra and Greg
Workman, all of Kenova, and Shelia and James Copley of Catlettsburg, Ky.; 10

his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Alma Presley and five

Dad was singing "Victory in Jesus" when Sis was visiting with him before he
passed. As children, we remember the earnest sounds of their voices as mother
and dad prayed aloud on their knees at their bedside every night before bedtime.
We praise God for that testimony and for the testimony of mom and dad's lives.
Dad always had a smile and a hug for his children, grandchildren and
great-grandchildren, as well as all of his other family members, friends,
neighbors and church family. We already miss him very much, but look forward to

Saturday, November 27, 2010 in Huntington, W.Va. He was born May 25, 1945 in

Ronald Marcum and John David Marcum also preceded him in death. Willis was a
retired school bus driver for the Wayne County School District. Survivors
include his twin brother, Douglas W. Marcum of Crum; one aunt, Roberta Horne

Monday, November 29, 2010, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va.
Sandra was born April 27, 1939, in Huntington, a daughter of the late Woodrow W.
and Frances June Garrett Allen. She worked in child care at Saint Peter's
Church. Sandra was a member of Kenova United Methodist Church. In addition to
her parents, she was preceded in death by one aunt, Lois Garrett. She is

KARL "JIM" LAWSON, 78, of Wayne, W.Va., went to be
with the Lord, Monday, November 29, 2010, at the VA Medical Center in
Huntington. He was born August 23, 1932, in Aflax, Ky., a son of the late James
and Alice O'Quinn Lawson. He was a retired grinder/polisher for SIFCO in
Cleveland, Ohio. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War and
was one of the few survivors of the "Chosin Reservoir" conflict. He was a member
of the Crockett-Booten Methodist Church, the U.S. Marine Corps League and the
U.S. Veteran Center. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Maxine
Lawson; a sister, Donna Doemer; and a brother, Harold Lawson. Survivors include
three daughters, Janice Zimmerman and husband Harry of Huntington, W.Va.;
Phyllis Staley and husband David of Hinton, W.Va.; and Lynnette Lawson at home;

W.Va., passed away Tuesday, November 30, 2010, at his residence. Funeral

retired construction worker, former member and treasurer for UMWA Local 1582 and
was a member of the Lick Creek Baptist Church. Chuck was also a U.S. Army

LOWELL KEITH DAVIS, 73, of Lavalette, W.Va., fell
asleep to awake in the arms of God, Tuesday November 30, 2010, in the Emogene

23, 1937, in Wayne County, W.Va., a son of the late Walker and Faye Smith Davis.
He was a retired teacher from the Cabell County Vo-Tech Center, past Master of
Wayne Lodge #18 Wayne, W.Va., and a member of Lavalette United Methodist Church,
where he had taught Sunday School. He graduated from Marshall High School in
1955, and also graduated from Marshall University with a Master's degree in
Education. Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of almost 49 years,
Peggy Byrd Davis; devoted daughter Kimberly Spurlock and loving granddaughter
Tayler Brooke Spurlock, both of Lavalette, and a host of family and friends.

BOBBY JOE WELLMAN, 82, of Lavalette, W.Va., passed
away early Tuesday morning, November 30, 2010, at St. Mary's Medical Center,
Huntington, W.Va. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, December
3, 2010, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, W.Va., by Rev. Jim Plyburn.
Burial will follow at Ridgelawn Memorial Park in Barboursville, W.Va. He was
born December 20, 1927 at Wayne, WV, son of the late Henry and Olive Toney
Wellman. Also preceding him in death were three sisters, Bertha Prichard (Belvard),
Mona Sansom (Hugh), Dalyah Perry (Murle); two brothers, Arnold Wellman (Dutch)
and Keiffer Wellman (Frances.) Survivors include 12 nieces and nephews, Maxine
Hurst, Glennalee Fulks, Otalee Reynolds, Jack and Jerry Wellman, Valerie Jo
Fuller, Vana Huff, Murle Dena Clabeaux and Mark Wellman, and was assisted
throughout his illness by his admiring nieces and nephew, Bonita Clark, Minetta
Rice and Keith Wellman. Bobby was a 1945 graduate of Wayne High School, where he
excelled in football, basketball and baseball. He attended VPI (Virginia Tech)
on a football scholarship. He transferred to Marshall College, where he was a
punter and kicker for the Thundering Herd team which played in the 1947 New
Year's Day Tangerine Bowl in Orlando, Fla. He remained a great fan of many
sports, and was so pleased to be able to attend this year's MU vs. WVU game with
his great-nephew, Andy Clark. Bobby served four years in the U.S. Air Force,
mostly Kessler AFB, Biloxi, Miss. In 1978, he retired from the Federal Prison
System as a senior caseworker after 20 years service in Kentucky, California,
Michigan and Minnesota. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Sandstone,
Minn., and Scottish Rite in Charleston, W.Va. He was a former member of the Big
Green Club. Bobby had many interests including sports, country music, square
dancing, tailgating and exercising at the YMCA. All who knew him realized he
possessed a wealth of information on many subjects. Friends may call from 6 to 8

BERNARD JACK "Butch" MAYNARD, 62, of Lavalette,
W.Va., passed away Tuesday, November 30, 2010, at the Veterans Administration
Medical Center. He was born January 4, 1948 in Huntington, W.Va., a son of the
late Lowell and Bertha Black Maynard. He was a US Army veteran serving in
Vietnam and was a member of the American Legion Post No. 177 in Barboursville,
and a lifetime member of the D.A.V. Chapter 52 in Kenova, W.Va., and V.F.W. Post
No. 9738 in Guyandotte, W.Va. He is survived by his wife, Ginger Finley Maynard;
one daughter, Tammy Shipley and her friend, Gene Shipley; two sons, Jeffery
Maynard and Johnny Maynard and his friend, Grace Donnally, both of Lavalette;
two grandchildren, Cody Maynard and Kylee Maynard; a special cousin, Richard
Black; a friend, Troy Shipley; and a host of uncles, aunts and cousins. Funeral
