DAVID EARL NIX, 56, of Fort Gay passed away on
Feb. 1, 2011. He was born in Columbus Ohio in 1954. He is preceded in death
by his mother Muriel Dowden Nix. He is survived by his wife Carolyn Sue Nix
of Fort Gay, two sons; Christopher Paul Nix of Fort Gay and Brian Dafd of
Austin Tx., father John Nix of Fort Gay, sister Brenda Cunningham of Fort
Gay and brother Marshal Nix of Fort Gay. Funeral services are scheduled for
Thursday, February 3, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Fort Gay Baptist Church
officiated by Rev. Tim Preston with burial in the David Nix Cemetery in Fort
Gay. Visitation is scheduled for 3 - 4 p.m. Wednesday with family at 2 p.m.

NED SAYRE COMPTON, 72, of Louisa, Ky., loving
husband, dad, papaw, brother and friend, went to be with his Savior on
Wednesday, February 2, 2011. He was born July 25, 1938, in Louisa, Ky., a
son of the late W.D. and Laura Vanhorn Compton. In addition to his parents,
he was preceded in death by his sister, Avis Foley, and his brothers, Nick,
Glen, Jack, Craig Tyson and Jay. He is survived by his loving wife of 56
years, Aileen Daniels Compton; three beautiful children, daughter Nedra
Compton Fennell and husband Jim of Ashland, Ky., son Tyson Compton of
Huntington, W.Va., son Tawn Sayre Compton of Nicholasville, Ky., and
daughter-in-law Bonita Compton of Lexington, Ky.; three wonderful
grandchildren, Joshua Ned Compton and wife Rachel, James Jansen Fennell and
wife Megan, and Sayre Compton; and very special great-granddaughter, Anna
Aileen Compton; sisters Corlis Barnette, Fern Short and Maris Lucas of
Louisa, Ky., Joy McComas and Janis (Ray) Hayes of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Iris
Freelander of Long Beach, Calif.; brother Dave (Kathy) Compton of Louisa,
Ky.; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Ned was retired from
Huntington (INCO) Alloys in 1989, and from Lawrence County Fiscal Court in
2009. A rancher and cattleman, Ned was a true cowboy, finding one of life's
greatest pleasures in horseback riding. He was a member of Apperson #195
Masonic Lodge, Louisa IOOF Lodge #270, a member of Beef Cattle Association,
Lawrence County Saddle Club, President of Lawrence County Farm Bureau Board,
and former member of Lawrence County Extension Board. He was a member of
Louisa United Methodist Church, where he served on the finance committee.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 5, 2011, at
Louisa United Methodist Church, with Rev. Guy Moyer and Rev. Kenneth Jett
officiating. Burial will follow at the Compton Cemetery. Visitation will be
from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at Young Funeral Home, Louisa. In lieu of flowers,
donations may be made to Louisa United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O.
Box 26, Louisa, KY, or Ashland Community Hospice.

OBIE PERRY of Huntington - Beloved Dad and
Grand-Dad, OBIE PERRY, 95, of Huntington, WV, passed away quietly, following
a brief illness, Wednesday, February 2, 2011, at the Emogene Dolin Jones
Hospice House, Huntington, WV. Born April 6, 1915, at the Rocky
Fjord/McComas area of Dunlow, Wayne County, WV, he was a son of the late
James and Marinda (Nelson) Perry. Preceded, in 1997, by his loving wife of
59 years, Tennessee (Copley) Perry and 2 Sons: Jimmie and Trestyn Joseph
Perry. He was a member of the Little Harts Freewill Baptist Church, Harts,
WV; a retired timberman/sawmill operator; heavy equipment operator; and
reknowned molasses maker in Lincoln and Wayne Counties. Preceded also by 6
brothers: Elvia; Elisha; John Walter; Oscar; Wetzel; and Noah; and 6
Sisters: Alma; Clersie; Florida (Perry) Pilbeam; Bessie (Perry) Frazier;
Maude (Perry) Fry Comer; and Jennie (Perry) Bevins. Survivors include his
daughters: Kay Wall, Marlinton, WV, and Della Lilly, Huntington, WV;
Grand-Daughters: Patricia; Alice; and Darla; and Grand-Son, Obie; a sister,
Emily (Jack) Hagist, Lavalette, WV; 4 brothers: Edgar, Sr., (Jane), Dunlow,
WV; Wayne (Della), Hamden, OH; Raymond (Barbara), Lavalette, WV; Monroe,
Cleveland. OH; Robert Franklin "Bob", Cleveland, OH; great-granddaughters:
Rebecca; Maria; Amber; and Christina; great-grandson: C. J.; great-great-granddaughters:

CAROL CURNUTTE EPLING, 80, of Wayne, W.Va.,
passed away Thursday, February 3, 2011, at St. Mary's Medical Center,
Huntington, W.Va. She was born December 18, 1930, in Radnor, W.Va., a
daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Nellie Hampton Curnutte. In
addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Lewis
Wetzel Curnutte and his wife Joan. She is survived by her loving husband of
62 years, Arch Epling, son Oliver Douglas Epling and his wife Glenna, and
grandson Ryan Douglas Epling, all of Wayne, whom she loved very much;
brother Charles Curtis Curnutte and wife Peggy of Radnor; sister Barbara Ann
Cox and husband Ralph of Wayne; and several nieces and nephews. She is also
survived by two sisters-in-law, Esta Epling and Anna Epling of Wayne. During
the Vietnam era, Carol worked to keep the POW's and MIA's from being
forgotten by writing and delivering speeches throughout Arizona, where she
and Arch lived for 22 years. She had received several awards and
commendations for her work from various service organizations. Carol was a
member of the Church of Christ (Radnor and Wayne). Funeral services will be
conducted at Morris Funeral Home, Wayne, by minister Ron Ross and Jeff Ross,
on Sunday, February 6, 2011, at 2 p.m. Visitation will be Saturday, February
5, 2011, from 6 to 9 p.m. Burial will be in the Curnutte Cemetery, Radnor.
Pallbearers will be her grandson Ryan Epling and nephews Ben Cox, Dwight
Cox, Mark Curnutte, great-nephews Benji Cox and Jason Cox.

RUBY LYCANS SMITH CALDWELL our loving mother
and grandmother, made heaven her home on February 3, 2011, at King's
Daughters Medical Center. A celebration of Ruby's life will be conducted at
Reger Funeral Chapel, Huntington, W.Va., on Saturday, February 5, 2011, at
12:30 p.m., by Pastor Kim Stone and Pastor Mike Blankenship. Burial will
follow at Docks Creek Cemetery, Kenova, W.Va. Visitation will be from 10:30
a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. Ruby was born March
12, 1921, the daughter of the late Andrew and Martha Johnson Lycans.
Surviving Ruby are her twin daughters Martha (Joe) McNeal and Marcella (Jim)
Canterbury and son George Michael (Doris) Smith; grandchildren Dr. Beth
(Todd) Addington, Michele (Luke) Blatt, Amy (Paul) Herrick, Roger (Kristee)
Holmes, Jennifer (Kenny) Compton, Eric Canterbury; 10 great-grandchildren
who brought her much joy, Jonathan Blatt, Katie and Carrie Herrick, Emma
Blatt, Lindsay and Mathew Holmes, Kenna Compton, Hunter and Ethan
Canterbury, Ardan George Addington; a loving niece and nephew, Lula Mae and
Lacy Stone; three sisters, Louise Cronan, Lareda (Kenneth) Mills and Deloris
Duke. Special thanks to mom's caregiver, Erma Beam, for her love and care,
and to Mary June Shannon, her Sunday School teacher, who was so faithful to
visit. Preceding Ruby in death the father of her children, George Smith;
second husband John Caldwell; a cherished son in law, Roger Holmes; brothers
Herman and Andy Lycans Jr.; sisters Juanita Bond and Myrtle Sloan; and a
special aunt, Mary Lycans Ellis. Our precious mother attended Kenova
Elementary and Ceredo-Kenova High School. Before retirement, she was
employed by Wayne County Schools cooking at Ferndale Elementary and Kenova
Elementary. Ruby was always actively involved in the lives of her children
and grandchildren. Mom had been a member of Oakland Avenue Baptist Church in
Catlettsburg, Ky., for 60 years. She was saved at an early age and baptized
in the Ohio River by Dr. B.R. Lakin. She served her Lord faithfully through
His church until ill health prevented her, but always was a true witness to
her family and friends. Ruby graciously took into her home three of her
aunts and an uncle in their later years, and cared for them. Our dear mother
has been a tremendous blessing and an inspiration to her children,
grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions may be made in her memory to Good Samaritan Center in Kenova.
Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

NOVA McCOY ESTEP, 95, of Ranger, W.Va., went to
be with the Lord Friday, Feb. 4, 2011, at her home in Ranger. She was born
Sept. 17, 1915, on Aaron's Creek, Ranger, W.Va., a daughter of the late John
and Virginia Hooiser McCoy. She was also preceded in death by her husband,
Ocie Estep; two sons, Paul Lester and Haskell Howard Estep. She is survived
by three daughters, Madeline (Delany) Wellman of Midkiff, W.Va., Juanita
(James) Beaty and Pam (Haskell) Nelson, both of Ranger; one son, Floyd
(Lucy) Estep of Ranger; 20 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren; 12
great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services
will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, at McGhee-Handley Funeral Home, West
Hamlin, W.Va., with Darnell Cyfers officiating. The burial will follow in
the Adkins Cemetery, Ranger, W.Va. Friends may call from noon til service
time Sunday at the funeral home.

BERNICE GAIL BARTRAM, 37, of Fort Gay, W.Va.
passed away Friday, February 4, 2011 at her home. She was born March 3, 1973
in Louisa, Ky. a daughter of Vernon Lee and Athelene Williamson Robertson.
She was a housewife. She is preceded in death by a son, Steven Emmauel
Bartram and one brother, Vemon Lee Robertson Jr. Survivors include her
loving husband of 19 years, David C. Bartram II of Fort Gay, W.Va.; parents,
Vernon Lee and Athelene Williamson Robertson of Fort Gay, W.Va.; two
daughters, Athelene Mary Elizabeth Bartram and Olive Marie Bartram both of
Fort Gay, W.Va.; four sons, Michael David Bartram, David Claude Bartram III
and Joseph L. Bartram all of Fort Gay, W.Va.; five sisters, Teresa Clay of
Louisa, Ky.; Rachel Robertson of Fort Gay, W.Va.; Doris Hale of Louisa, Ky.;
Fanny Robertson and Polly Edna Robertson both of Fort Gay, W.Va.; four
brothers, James Daniel Robertson, Rodney Keith Robertson, Emmanuel Ray
Robertson and Robert William Robertson all of Fort Gay, W.Va. Funeral

JOHNIE W. JOHNSON, 74, of Wayne, W.Va., went
home to be with the Lord Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at the Emogene Dolin Jones
Hospice House in Huntington, W.Va. Funeral services will be conducted at 2
p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, W.Va., by
Brother Donald Gene Maynard and Elder Sid Stroud. Burial will follow at
Elmwood Cemetery, Wayne. He was born Sept. 6, 1936, at Man, W.Va., a son of
the late Andrew J. and Emma Rowe Johnson. Johnie retired as a group three
cleaner at Ford Motor Company at Brookpark, Ohio, after 37 years of service.
Johnie was Pentecostal by faith. He was also preceded in death by a sister,
Janice Nelson; brothers, David Johnson and Little Joe Johnson; and
granddaughter, Faith McCoy. He leaves behind his wife and best friend,
Geneva Madeline Smith Johnson; his sons, John Johnson of Cleveland, Ohio,
and Billy Johnson at home; daughters, Judy McCoy and husband Bruce of
Williamson, W.Va., Geneva Ann Rodriguez and fiancé John Brooks of Lavalette,
W.Va., and Linda Tomblin and husband Jay of Wayne, W.Va.; his sisters,
Emmabell, Cora, Nora, Carol, Nellie and Andrea; his brother, Tommy; and a
host of beloved nieces and nephews. He was a special Papaw to 14
grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. During the past two years,
Johnie had made his home with daughters Ann and Linda. His grandsons will
serve as pallbearers. Friends may call from noon until service time Tuesday
at Morris Funeral Home. Johnie's departing prayer was from Romans 10:9.

VICTORIA S. HOLBROOK, 90, of Louisa, Ky. passed
away Tuesday, February 5, 2011 at her home. She was born March 28, 1920 in
Chapman, Ky. a daughter of the late George F. and Nella Fuggitt Smith. She
was a Lawrence County School Teacher for 37 years, and graduated from
Morehead State University with a B.A. Degree. Victoria was a Kentucky
Colonel and was a member of the Kentucky education Association and also a
member of the United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents she was
preceded in death by a brother, Dr. James M. Smith. Survivors include her
loving husband of 70 years, Roy G. Holbrook of Louisa, Ky.; two daughters,
Carol H. (Todd) Ward of Louisa, Ky.; Glenda H. (Joe) Blackgrove-Warner
Robins, Georgia; one sister, Ruth (Tom) Wellman of EI Paso, Texas; 5
Grandchildren, 7 Great Grandchildren and Several nieces and Nephews, and
four Loving Caretakers. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 am
Saturday, February 19, 2011 at Young Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ric
Frazier officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Louisa, Ky.

DOUGLAS "DOUG" EUAL SPEARS, 61, of
Huntington, W.Va., passed away February 7, 2011, in St. Mary's Medical
Center, Huntington. He was born November 30, 1949, in Lincoln County, West
Virginia, a son of the late Eual and Cleo Pauline Nelson Spears. He was a
retired employee of CSX Railroad and a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Those
that survive him include, four daughters, Susan Spears McClellan of
Huntington, W.Va., Kristina Blake Autry, Bridgette McNeil and Candice Spears
all of Denver, Colorado; grandchildren Amanda Blake, Robbie Blake, Thomas
McNeil, Ayla Goodman, Connor McClellan, Micah McClellan and one grandchild
on the way; a great-grandson, Roman Williams. In addition, two brothers and
two sisters and their spouses survive Doug, Robert Spears of London Ontario,
Canada, Danny (Darlene) Spears of Scottown, Ohio; Patricia (Earnest)
McKenney of Chesapeake, Ohio, and Lisa (Troy) Wilson of Parkville, Mo.;
several nieces and nephews survive as well. Services will be at 1 p.m.
Saturday at the Reger Funeral Chapel, by Rev. Charles Stephens. Burial will
follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, W.Va. Military rites
will be performed by the Veterans Honor Guard of American Legion Post 16 and

JOHN B. MARCUM SR., 80-1/2, of Lenore/Dingess
was born July 27, 1930 at Stepptown, W.Va., passed away Monday February 7,
2011 at Logan Regional Medical Center. He was a retired Security Officer for
Marrowbone Development. Preceding him in death were his wife of 47 years,
Carol Sue Bryant Marcum. Also preceding him in death was his father Charlie
Marcum, mother Emma Horn Marcum, brothers Flem, Patrick, Owen, Walter,
Laffette and Harrison, sisters Mary, Beatrice and Edith, daughter Judith and
her daughter Tonya, granddaughters Josephine and Kathleen, two grandsons,
Matthew and Mark. Survivors include four daughters, Tammy and Franklin
Waller of Fort Gay, W.Va., Daphne McNeely and Melvin of Dingess, W.Va.,
Cathy Jo Alexander of Georgia and Charrie Hayward of Tacoma, Wash.; four
sons, John B. Marcum Jr. of Dingess, Emory Lee Marcum of Lenore, Patrick
Marcum of Lenore and Clayton Derek Marcum of Ohio; five granddaughters and
six grandsons, 30 step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, 17 step-
great-grandchildren, two great- great-grandchildren; a host of nieces,
nephews, cousins, in-laws, friends and a very special bird, CoCo. Funeral
services will be conducted Friday, February 11, 2011, at 2 p.m. at
Fellowship Baptist Church, Lenore, with Rev. Curtis Booth officiating.

BRIANNA MICHELLE BREWER, 17, of Prichard,
W.Va., died Tuesday, February 8, 2011, from injuries sustained in an
automobile accident. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday,
February 11, 2011, at the Silver Creek United Baptist Church, Crum, W.Va.,
of which she was a member, by Rev. Steve Ramey, Rev. Otis Lynn Dillon and
Rev. Aaron Walker. Burial will follow at the Prince Family Cemetery,
Prichard, W.Va. She was born October 20, 1993, in Huntington, W.Va., a
daughter of the late Kent and Bethana Faye Prince Brewer. Brianna was a
junior at Tolsia High School, where she was a cheerleader and member of the
Beta Club, Teen Institute, Bible Club, H.O.B.Y., and Select Honors Program.
Survivors include her grandparents, J.D. and Myrtie Prince of Prichard, with
whom she made her home, and Sandy Messer of North Carolina; two sisters,
Courtney Boyer and husband Justin of Huntington, and Alexis Carter
Bouallagui and husband Shady of Prichard; two brothers, Derrick Evans and
Ryan Prince, both of Prichard; special cousins Adam and Chelsea Muncy, J.J.
and Cody Salmons, Olivia, Zach and Noah Ramey, and Samantha and Kim
Endicott; aunts and uncles Teresa Muncy and husband Basil, Jennifer Endicott

DAVID DALE LYKINS II, 27, of Sedona, Ariz.,
formerly of Kenova, W.Va., went to sleep in the arms of Jesus on Wednesday,
February 9, 2011, at his home. He was born February 23, 1983, in Huntington,
W.Va., the beloved son of LaDonna Hay Beckett of Kenova, and David Dale
Lykins of Cornville, Ariz. He was a graduate of Spring Valley High School
and attended Ashland Community College. David Dale had a passion for cooking
and was working in the restaurant industry in Arizona. He loved sports,
especially basketball. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in
Huntington. He was preceded in death by his maternal Pa Paw, Kenny Hay. In
addition to his parents, he is survived by one sister, Mikah Beckett of
Kenova; his maternal Grams, Linda Hay of Kenova; a special uncle, Kenny Lee
Hay of Huntington; his paternal grandparents, Charles and Bonnie Lykins of
Florida; his fiancée Rachel, and a host of other family and friends. Funeral
services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 17, 2011, at
Rollins Funeral Home, Kenova, with his uncle, Bob Massie officiating. Burial

HAZEL SMITH CHILDERS, 101, of South Point, OH,
went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, February 9, 2011, in River's Bend
Nursing Home. Funeral services will be 1 PM Sunday, February 13, 2011, at
Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home with her grandson, Pastor Aaron Childers
officiating. Burial will follow in Community Memorial Gardens, Wayne, WV.
Hazel was born August 31, 1909, in East Lynn, WV, a daughter of the late
Samuel and Sarah Napier Smith. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband,
Pearley Childers; one daughter, Evelyn Childers; one brother, Lucian Smith;

daughter of the late Teddy Eldridge and Mary Elizabeth Barbour Dunkle. Her
first husband, Robert Carl Kendall; her second husband, Burton Daymon "Chub"

Barbour Wolfe and Louise Barbour Adkins; and a nephew, Ted Booth, also
preceded her in death. In her youth, she was a secretary and hostess for the
former C&O Railroad and was a former secretary of Ashland Oil. She was a
member of Highlawn Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Friendship
Sunday School Class and her Bible Study Group. She was a homemaker, golfer,
bowler and a member of the Riviera Country Club. Survivors include a son and

and was the former owner of The Stove and Iron Shop in Logan, W.Va. Edward
was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He served
in World War II with the 101st Calvary and was honorably discharged from
both enlistments with the rank of Sergeant. Ed was also a member of American
Legion Post 177 of Barboursville, W.Va., and a member of the Hopewell
Methodist Church as well as the C&O Historical Society. He was a member of
AARP, the Wayne County Farm Bureau and AREMA. Two brothers, Erwin Schmuker
and Robert Schmuker, and a sister, Mary Ellen Parrish, also preceded him in
death. Survivors include his wife, April Dawn Thompson Schmuker; a daughter,
Kathy Barnhart and husband John of Chillicothe, Ohio; three sons, Joe

MARY LOUISE "GAMMA" PERRY MARTIN, age 88, wife
of the late, Ray C. Martin, passed away, Saturday, February 12, 2011 at NHC
of Garden City. Mrs. Martin was born January 01, 1923 at Wayne, West
Virginia, the daughter of the late Jay and Hazel Ratcliffe Perry. During
World War II Mrs. Martin worked as a Post Mistress in War, West Virginia.
After raising her children, she worked in retail sales in Huntington, West
Virginia for many years. Mrs. Martin most recently was the Manager of the
Bay Shore Motel in Myrtle Beach before retiring. She was a former member of
Centerville Baptist Church in Centerville, West Virginia, where she sang in
the choir, taught Sunday School, was active in the Ladies Circle and
Vacation Bible School. Mrs. Martin enjoyed many things in life; including
quilting, sewing, gardening, cooking, reading, and walking. In addition to
her husband, her daughter; Elizabeth Martin; her four brothers, Bob, Rush,
Ronnie, and Thomps Perry; and her sister, Belle Thompson, preceded Mrs.
Martin in death. Survivors include her loving daughter; Hazel Rae Martin
Frick and her husband, Glenn, of Fort Mill, SC; the lights of her life, two
grandsons, D.J. Cooke and his wife, Jamie, of Fort Mill, SC, Bradley Cooke

away Feb. 17, 2011. She was born Jan. 9, 1946, the daughter of the late
Walter and Virginia Adkins-Dickerson. One brother, Bobby Gene Dickerson,
also preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, James Foster
Mathis; her son and daughter-in-law, Darren and Lisa Mathis; two brothers,
Larry and Pat Dickerson, and Walter and Debbie Dickerson; four sisters,
Alice and Bernard Pendleton, Raye and Walter Elkins, Yvonne and Arthur
Talbot Jr., and Delva and Russ Stewart; a sister-in-law, Mary and Willis

DELTA MAY HATMAKER, 91, of Keystone Heights
passed away on Thursday February 17, 2011 at the Acosta-Rua Center for
Caring in Jacksonville. Mrs. Hatmaker was born in Wayne, West Virginia on
December 5, 1919 to the late Richard Baxter and May (Adkins) Sansom, and was
raised in the Methodist Faith. In 1987 she moved to Keystone Heights from
Ft. Lauderdale and became a member of the Cookie Girls Club. Mrs. Hatmaker
dedicated 30 years of service to the Sears Credit Central before retiring.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Loy E. Hatmaker and her daughter,
Kaye Ann Thompson. She is survived by one daughter, Connie Ridenour (Bobby)
of Grandin, one son, Dick Hatmaker of Keystone Heights, one sister, Norma
Jean Rice of Westerville, OH, ten grandchildren and fifteen
great-grandchildren. A memorial celebration was held on Friday, February 25,

devoted and faithful believer in the Church of God. Although she was most
proud of her role as a housewife, mother and grandmother, she also assisted
her husband, the late Barney Asbury, in many business and political
activities. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in
death by four sisters, Violetta Ross, Magdeline Ross, Letha Blankenship and
Gladys "June" Adams; two brothers, Ellis Ross and Basil Ross; and two
brothers-in-law, Mose Adams and Opie Mitchell. Survivors include two
daughters, Brenda Ward and husband David of Lavalette and Deborah Asbury
Freedman and husband David of Apex, North Carolina; two grandsons, Barney
Smith (Stephanie) of Lavalette, Cheyenne Freedman of Apex, N.C.; three
step-grandsons, Chris Ward (Holly) of Jacksonville, Fla., Matthew Ward
(Candice) of Aida, Ohio, Richard Ward (Suzanne) of Mayport, Fla., two
great-grandchildren, Albert Cover and Evan Smith of Lavalette; two

RUSSELL T. MAYNARD SR., went to be with the
Lord on February 20, 2011, at Mary Washington Hospital. Russ was born at
Wilsondale in Wayne County, W.Va., as the third of four children, to Zachary
Taylor and Melda Maynard, both of whom, with a brother and two sisters,
preceded him in death. Russ was educated in the Wayne County public schools
and majored in "Business Management" at Marshall University in Huntington,
W.Va., Class of 1951. He also completed several technical courses at the
Federal Aviation Academy in Oklahoma City, Okla., as well as at several
public universities, where he periodically served as a "guest lecturer" on
aviation subjects. Russ was an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church,
USA, since 1968. In 1983, he and his wife, Caroline, led a lay group in
establishing/chartering the Spotsylvania Presbyterian Church on behalf of
the Hanover Presbytery, The Fredericksburg Presbyterian Church, and the
Hartwood Presbyterian Church as sponsors. He also was a former leader in the
Boy Scouts of America as well as a member of numerous civic, fraternal, and
aviation organizations. Russ was an eighth generation descendant of William
"Mauer," who joined the Virginia Colony in 1740, from Devonshire, England.
He is survived by his widow, Caroline, with whom he had a "Love Affair" for
more than 60 years. Also, by two daughters, Mrs. C. Gail Vadeboncoeur (and
Paul) of Spotsylvania County, Mrs. Jennifer Tate (and Steve) of Orange
County, Va.; and four sons, Robert A. Maynard (and Barb) of Boise, Idaho.,
William L. Maynard (and Leslie) of North Springfield, Va., Samuel T. Maynard
of Port Townsend, Washington, and David L. Maynard (and Mary) of
Spotsylvania County, Va. Russ and Caroline's eldest son, Russell T. Maynard
Jr., Captain, USAF, perished in a military plane crash in 1978 during the
"Cold War." Russ is also survived by nine grandchildren and three
great-grandsons. Caroline and Russ have always loved each member of the
family dearly. Russ was a combat veteran of World War II credited with 58
missions over Europe, flying B-24 Liberators. Russ was awarded the
Distinguished Flying Cross for a mission over Germany. He flew more than 65
different types of aircraft during 40 years as a professional pilot. In
1961, he was issued an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate by the Federal
Aviation Administration with "All Ratings Authorized." Only 88 pilots were
ever issued such authority. Prior to his appointment as an Aviation Safety
Inspector, he was Chief Operating Officer of a corporation operating an
aircraft sales/service and commercial flights for 10 years. He retired in
1982 from the Federal Aviation Administration in Washington D.C. A memorial
service celebrating Russ' life will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, February 25,
at Spotsylvania Presbyterian Church 11121 Leavells Road, Fredericksburg,
Va., with the Reverend Dr. Alan Hager officiating. Interment of his remains
will take place at Arlington National Cemetery in a private ceremony at a

Wright was a graduate of Kentucky Christian College and preached over 60

Paul. He is survived by his faithful and devoted wife of more than 62 years,

Princeton, NC formerly of Wayne, WV, went to join her heavenly father on
Feb. 22, 2011. She was born April 5, 1954 the daughter of the late Elva and

preceded in death by an infant daughter Amanda Beth, two brothers William "Wilkie"
May and William "Will" Runyon and one nephew Steve Kennedy. She is survived
by her loving husband, Donnie Mitchell, one son Kenneth Harold Hundley and
two daughters Maggie Hundley-McDennent and Rachel Rollins, one step-daughter
Christy Barnes and two step-sons Junior and Rodney Pearce and 18
grandchildren who were her pride and joy. Also surviving are two brothers,

was born March 11, 1925 in Columbus, OH, a daughter of the late Charles

administrator for the State of Ohio and retired from the Ohio State Bank.
She attended Christ Temple Church in Huntington and bible studies groups at
the Charter House in Wayne. She had once served as a delegate from Wayne
County at the Silver Haired Legislature in Charleston, WV. Her sister,
Marjorie Myers and husband, Glen L. Myers also preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Cathy Gilliam and husband, Mark of Wayne,
WV, and Ginny Speich and husband, David of Cary, NC; a son, Michael Murray

Adkins. His wife, Georgia Adkins also preceded him in death along with two
brothers, Delmar Adkins and Mitchell Adkins, and two sisters, Shirley Adkins
and Christine Lambert. Survivors include one daughter, Thena Colgrove and
husband Crow of Ranger, W.Va.; four sons, Tester Wayne Whitt and wife
Dorothy, John Wayne Whitt and wife Kelly, all of Wayne, Billy Marcum and
wife Tiffany of East Lynn, W.Va., and Harmon Davis of Bluefield, W.Va.; and
a host of grandchildren. Also surviving are four sisters, Marie Burress of
West Hamlin, W.Va., Kesslene Prolow and husband Ed of Milton, W.Va., Pansy
Tabor and husband Danny of Dunlow, W.Va., and June McCoy of Huntington,
W.Va.; two brothers, Walter Adkins and wife Gail of Huntington, and James
Adkins and wife Linda of Wayne; and friends and neighbors too numerous to
mention. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday, March 3, 2011
at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home with Pastor Herman Dingess officiating.
Burial will follow in the Kelly Perry Cemetery, East Lynn. Friends may call
two hours prior to the funeral on Thursday.
