LORA MAE MICHEALS WILSON, 96, of
Kenova, W.Va., died Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice
House in Huntington, W.Va. She was born June 15, 1915, in Lawrence County,
Kentucky, a daughter of the late Fred and Ethel Micheals. In addition to her
parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Wilson; three sisters
and three brothers. She attended Kenova Church of God. She is survived by four
sons and daughters-in-law, Harry David and Janet Lee Wilson of Kenova, Don and
Dona Wilson of South Point, Ohio, Stanley Ray and Barbara Wilson of Shoals,
W.Va., and Michael and Sandra K. Wilson of Cary, N.C.; two sisters, Bernadine
Bonnett and Betty Marcum, both of Catlettsburg, Ky.; one brother, Jack Micheals
of Michigan; six grandchildren, Staci (Keith) Griffith, Matthew (Brittany)
Wilson, Mark (Leanne) Wilson, Stanley Wilson Jr., Tom (Lynn) Harris and Melissa
Lynn (Ballard) Romans; seven great-grandchildren, Jack and Katie Harris, Megan
Romans, Brandon Romans, Logan Griffith, MarLeah Wilson, Kimberly Lynn Wilson and
Titus Wilson; and nephew Bill Micheals of Cleveland, Ohio. Funeral services will
be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 4, 2011, at Rollins Funeral Home, Kenova,
with Minister Becky Lawson officiating. Burial will follow in Dock's Creek

DONALD GENE CURNUTTE, 71, of Huntington, W.Va.,
died Thursday, June 2, 2011, at River's Bend Health Care in Burlington, Ohio. He
was born July 13, 1939, in Radnor, W.Va., a son of the late Benjamin Franklin
and Stella Rice Curnutte. He was the owner/operator of Guyan Marina. He was a
U.S. Army veteran and a member of American Legion Post No. 93 Kenova, whose
Honor Guard will conduct military graveside rites. He was a member of the Kenova
Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his
wife, Bernice Ray Curnutte; and Jim and Glenn Curnutte. He is survived by one
son, Gregg (Cheryl) Curnutte of Henrico, Va.; one daughter, Lisa (Jay) Johnson
of Hurricane, W.Va.; one brother, Robert Lee Curnutte of Camden, Md.; four
grandsons, Jason Shaw, Justin, Jeremy and Jacob Evans; a special friend, June
Sowder; several nieces and nephews; and a host of church family. Funeral
services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, June 6, 2011, at Rollins Funeral
Home in Kenova, W.Va., with Ministers Joe Alley and Amos Prince officiating.
Burial will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. The family will receive

GLADYS BELLE SMITH, 99 of Wayne, WV passed away
Thursday, June 2, 2011 in Wayne Nursing and Rehabilitation. Funeral services
will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Reger Funeral Chapel by Pastor Tim Jayne.
Burial will follow in Smith Cemetery, Wayne County. Gladys was born September
10, 1911 in Wayne County, WV a daughter of the late Samuel and Emma Hutchinson
Smith. She was a member of Buffalo Valley Missionary Baptist Church. In addition
to her parents, she was preceded in death by seven brothers: Roy Hutchinson,
Charles Smith, William "Bill" Smith, Leonard Smith, Leo Smith, O11ie Smith (his
wife Peggy) and Harold C. Smith, also six sisters: Martha Black, Mary Pelphrey,
Ruth Spurlock, Minnie Dingess, Emma Wellman and Julia D. Smith. Survivors
include a brother-in-law, Wetzel Spurlock, and a host of cousins and nieces and
nephews, including a special nephew and his wife, Harold and Elfriede Smith of
Huntington. The family would like to say thank you to the staff of Wayne Nursing
and Rehabilitation, for the care Gladys received. Visitation will be from 1:00
p.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Reger Funeral Home.

LOUELLA MAE WALTERS, 67, of Huntington, W.Va.,
passed away at home on Thursday, June 2, 2011. She was born June 26, 1944 in
Huntington, W.Va., a daughter of the late James and Audrey Dean. Three brothers,
Carl Dean, David Dean, and Tom Dean also preceded her in death, along with one
sister, Janet Workman. She leaves behind her husband, Marvin Walters; one
daughter, Teresa Hale and her husband Carl, also of Huntington; two grandsons,
Mike Sowder and his wife Jaley of Barboursville, W.Va., and Tim Sowder of
Huntington; and two great-grandchildren, Aubree Sowder and Leah Sowder, both of
Barboursville. Also surviving are three sisters, Brenda Nyes, Pat Christian, and
Linda Lester, all of Huntington; one brother Matt Dean of Proctorville, Oh.; and
a host of friends and family. Graveside services will be conducted 2 p.m.
Sunday, June 5, 2011, at Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Wayne. Johnson Tiller Funeral Home

LINDA ELLEN MARSHALL, 58, of Wayne, WV, died
Sunday, June 5, 2011 at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services were
conducted 2:00 pm Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at Morris Funeral Home Chapel by Elder
Tommy Damron. Burial followed in Patrick Cemetery, Wayne, WV. She was born
November 16, 1952 in Wayne, WV, a daughter of the late Harmon and Gladys Lewis.
Linda was a homemaker. Her son, Glen Marshall, Jr. also preceded her in death,
along with three sisters, Laura Zelker, Bonnie Daniels and Patricia Roy.
Survivors include her loving husband, Glen Marshall; two daughters, Sherry Rowe,
and husband, Jesse, Jessica Marshall all of Wayne, WV; two sons, Bobby Joe
Marshall and wife, Tammy, Michael Marshall and wife, Shana, all of Wayne, WV;
seven grandchildren, Riley, Samantha, Kris, Mikey, Brandon, Halee and David; and

EUNICE ADKINS, 77, of Branchland, WV, passed away
Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at Cabell-Huntington Hospital. Funeral services will be
conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 10, 2011 at Morris Funeral Home Chapel,
Wayne, WV, by Pastor Eddie McComas and Pastor Garland Perry. Burial will follow
at the Sanders Cemetery at East Lynn, WV. She was born May 13, 1934 at East
Lynn, WV, a daughter of the late Ollie and Oma Merritt Sanders. She was a
homemaker and member of the Liberty United Baptist Church. Her husband, Willard
Adkins, two sisters, Opal Sanders Martin and Macie Mae Sanders Carter, and four
brothers, James Hubert Sanders, Henry Howard Sanders, Ollie Wilson Sanders, and
Millard Sanders, also preceded her in death. Survivors include five sons,
Patrick Poe and wife, Ardella of Rocky Gap, VA, George Barnett of Branchland,
WV, Dexter Poe of Huntington, WV, Dwayne Eplin and wife, Cindy of North
Carolina, and David Eplin of Wayne, WV; three sisters, Nella Sanders Mills and
husband, Clarence of East Lynn, WV, Kathleen Sanders Wilson of Wayne, WV, and
Charlotte Sanders Maynard and husband, Eugene of Cleveland, OH; two brothers,
Clarence Sanders and wife, Dewanda of Wayne, WV, and Carl Sanders of Decatur,
TN; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces,

DELLA FAYE APPENZELLAR, 74, of Kenova, W.Va.,
passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2011, in the Heartland of Riverview Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday, June 12, 2011, at Rollins
Funeral Home, Kenova. Burial will follow in Dock's Creek Cemetery. Della was
born September 4, 1936, in Kenova, a daughter of the late Herschel Ferguson and
Ethel Caldwell Caperton Workman. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death
by four brothers Russell, Harold, James and Charles Caperton. Survivors include
a sister-in-law Linda Caperton of Kenova and several aunts, nieces and nephews.

ANNA REBECCA CRABTREE, 97, of Barboursville, W.Va.,
widow of Elwell Otis Crabtree, passed away Tuesday June 7, 2011, at the Emogene
Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington. Funeral services will be conducted at 2
p.m. Friday at the Reger Funeral Chapel by Pastor Tim Crabtree. Burial will
follow in Luther Cemetery, Wayne County, W.Va. She was born October 11, 1913, in
Shoals, W.Va., a daughter of the late James and Mary Kendrick Luther. She was a
housewife, mother, grandmother and, after her husband's passing, she was a
caregiver. In addition to her husband and parents, Anna was preceded in death by
a son Roy Adrian Crabtree, a daughter Anna Ruth Crabtree; a step-son Elwell Otis
Crabtree Jr.; four brothers, James David, Frank Harrison, Adrian and Robert and
two sisters, Virginia Jewell and Evelyn. Survivors include five sons Donald
Crabtree, Jimmy Crabtree, Phillip Crabtree, Tim Crabtree and Nathan Crabtree;
four daughters Doris Chapman, Ruby McCoy, Charlotte Gibson and Lola Ferguson; 28
grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; three great- great-grandchildren; a
brother John and three sisters, Flora, Marjorie and Mary Janice, and several

HELEN ANN COMPTON, 76, of East Lynn, WV entered the
gates of Heaven to dwell with the Lord forevermore on Tuesday June 7, 2011. She
was born on September 29, 1934 in Logan County, WV. She was the daughter of the
late Christopher George Kermans and Reva Kermans. She was the widow of the late
Johnny Glen Compton. She is survived by her four brothers, George Kermans of
Wayne, WV, Jim Kermans of Taylor, MI, John Kermans of Detroit, MI, and O'dell
Kermans of Taylor, MI. She had two children, David Lambert of East Lynn, WV and
Debra Lambert Watson of Grayson, KY; two grandchildren, Melissa Farley of
Wytheville, VA and James Watson of Olive Hill, KY; and three
great-grandchildren, Aubry Watson, Noah Farley, and Sadie Gray Farley.
Visitation was held Friday June 10, 2011 at 6 p.m. Funeral Services will be held
11 a.m. Saturday, June 11, 2011 at Johnson-Tiller Funeral Home in Wayne, WV with

PATRICIA A. ROSS, 74, of Kenova, W.Va., passed away
Wednesday, June 8, 2011, in the Heritage Center Nursing Home. Funeral services
will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, June 11, 2011, at Rollins Funeral Home,
Kenova, with Elder Charles Craft and Elder Ronnie Little officiating. Interment
will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. Patricia was born September 21, 1936, in
Chesapeake, Ohio, a daughter of the late William Mullen and the late Grace
McComas Mullen Gibson. She had been a member of the Bethany Church since June
25, 1978. Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by eight sisters
and three brothers. Survivors include her husband Fred Ross of Kenova; one son
Fred Ross Jr. of Sunny Port, North Carolina; one daughter Carol Jean Ross of
Charleston, W.Va.; two brothers, Robert "Bob" Mullen of Westwood, Ky., and Jerry
Gibson of South Point, Ohio; one grandson and his wife, Nathan (Cathi) Thomas
Murphy of Kenova; two great-grandsons, Ashton Tyler Lee Murphy and Aiden Mychael
Murphy; one great-granddaughter Anilayah Lotus Murphy; one special niece, Donna

(WCN - 6/8/2011) CHARLES LEONARD ROWE, 55, of
Genoa, W.Va., passed away following a three year battle with cancer. He was born
May 12,1956 in Wayne County, W.Va., a son of the late Donald Rowe and Lois Ann
Russell. One daughter, Amanda Lynn Rowe also preceded him in death. Charles was
a truck driver, a U.S. Army Veteran, and a member of Genoa United Baptist
Church. He leaves behind his loving wife, Gaynell Rowe; five sons, James Rowe,
James Blackburn, both of Wayne, Michael Rowe of Tenn., John Rowe, and Charles
Rowe, Jr., both of Wayne; three daughters, Georgina Rowe, Trista Stapleton,
Lekeisha Blackburn, all of Wayne; and 13 grandchildren. Also surviving is one
brother, Randy Russell of Ohio; two sisters, Lisa McComas and Valerie Ferguson,
both of East Lynn, W.Va.; stepfather, Harold Holt, also of East Lynn; and a host
of friends and family. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June
11, 2011 at the Genoa United Baptist Church with Pastor Danny Stapleton

MAXINE AKERS, 89, of Ceredo, entered the embrace of
our Lord on June 9, 2011, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in
Huntington. She was born July 28, 1921, in Ceredo, W.Va., to the late Alva and
Josephine (Jarrell) Carver. Mrs. Akers united in marriage to Roy Earl Akers, who
preceded her in death. To this union were born one daughter and two sons,
Barbara (Dennis) Adkins of Ceredo, Michael (Pamela) Akers of Huntington, and
Terry Lee Akers, who also preceded her in death. Survivors include a brother,
Wm. Howard Carver of Ceredo; six grandchildren, Susan Diane (Gary) Smith, Robin
(David) Dunkle, Brian (Kim) Akers, Jessica (Jason) Copeland, Nathan Akers and
Tracie (Billie) Conn; along with 10 great-grandchildren and five great-great
grandchildren. Other survivors include special friends, Frances Armstrong, Bea
Eagleston, Sam and Rosalee Hardwick, along with a host of other relatives and
friends. Mrs. Akers was also preceded in death by five siblings, Bertha Lou
Pyles, Jimmy Lee Carver, James Curtis Carver, Vernon Carver and Bobby Lee
Carver. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Ceredo-Kenova Funeral Home.

CLAUDE F. BAILEY, 87, of Huntington, W.Va.,
formerly of Wayne, W.Va., passed away Thursday, June 9, 2011. He was born
September 15, 1923, in Branchland, W.Va., a son of the late Claude and Mary
Bailey. His wife, Naomi Mae Bailey, also preceded him in death along with one
brother, Clarence L. Bailey, one sister Edana Mae Gill, one daughter, Shirley A.
Napier and grandson, Clarence Bradley Bailey. Claude was a retired supervisor
with Corbin Ltd. Survivors include two sons, Clarence B. Bailey and his wife
Margie, and Darryl L. Bailey all of Huntington; seven grandchildren; nine
great-grandchildren; and two great- great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one
sister, Clara Racy Ray of Hamlin, W.Va. Funeral services will be conducted noon
Monday, June 13, 2011, at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home. Burial will follow in

BEULAH MAE BAILEY MORRISON, 92, of Rush, Ky.,
formerly of Huntington, widow of Marvin Morrison, passed away Thursday, June 9,
2011, at King's Daughters Medical Center, Ashland, Ky. Funeral services will be
conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Reger Funeral Chapel by Pastor Richard
Gindlesperger. Burial will follow in Spring Valley Memory Gardens, Huntington.
She was born Jan. 24, 1919, in Wayne County, W.Va., a daughter of the late
Samson B. and Susie Gilmore Bailey. She was a retired custodian from Marshall
University. Beulah was Pentacostal by faith and was a church pianist, starting
when she was 12 years old. She also had a radio program on WEMM for a number of
years. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four
sons, Leroy Wilson, Scott Wilson, Archie Wilson and Dallas Wilson; a daughter,
Phyllis Wilson Crisp; a grandson, Dennie Crisp Jr.; 11 brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and

REV. CLARENCE DELBERT SPENCER, 78, of Fort Gay,
W.Va., passed away Thursday, June 9, 2011, at St. Mary's Medical Center,
Huntington, W.Va. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, June12,
2011, at the Myers Funeral Home, Elkview, W.Va. Burial will follow at the
Spencer Family Cemetery, Elkview. He was born February 16, 1933, at Frame,
W.Va., a son of the late Roy and Icie Myrtle Hively Spencer. Clarence taught for
54 years as a vocational agriculture teacher and a substitute teacher for Wayne
County Schools. He was the former pastor of Hopewell United Methodist Church and
currently taught Sunday school at the Wayne United Methodist Church, where he
was a member. A brother, Elbert Lee Spencer and a sister, Helen Grace Spencer,
also preceded him in death. Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years,
Janice Carole Armstead Spencer; three daughters, Joyce Marie Matney and husband
Steve of Proctorville, Ohio, Freda Cyrus of Fort Gay and Karen Grace Maynard and
husband James of Louisa, Ky.; two sons, Carlos Spencer of Cocoa Beach, Fla., and
Dale Spencer of Fort Gay; a brother, Roy Spencer Jr. of Gallipolis, Ohio; three
grandchildren, James Kenneth Maynard II, Bryan Edmond Maynard and Christina

BURGESS ROWE, Sr., 83, of Wayne, passed away,
Saturday, June 11, 2011 at St. Mary's Hospital. He was born March 11, 1928 in
Wayne, West Virginia, a son of the late Andrew Rowe and Minnie Marshall Rowe.
His son, Gary Rowe also preceded him in death, along with two brothers, James
Rowe and Bobby Rowe and sisters, Mary Alice Harless and Lucille Marshall. He
leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Mary Rowe; five children, Glen Rowe of
Wayne, Christine Rowe of Huntington, Jerry Rowe, Betty Jo Adams, and Burgess
Rowe, Jr., all also of Wayne; 13 grandchildren; and 25 great grandchildren. The
family would like to extend a special thank you to Sean, and the other nurses
and staff at St. Mary's for their care and support. Services were conducted 1
p.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home with Pastor Ronnie
Marcum officiating. Burial followed in the Copley Family Cemetery at Joel's

FRANKLIN "FRANK" DELANO VANCE of Huntington, W.Va.,
passed away peacefully on June 13, 2011, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice
House, following his long, valiant battle with lung cancer. Frank was a retired
barber and a former owner of the Prichard Barber Shop in Huntington. He was born
on January 13, 1933, on Parker's Creek, Wayne County, and was the son of the
late James Anderson and Sarah Moore Vance. His beloved wife of 56 years, Arlene
Curry Vance, preceded him in death in October. His sisters Georgia Vance and
Siddy Caldwell, his brothers Carl Vance, James Vance Jr., Francis Vance, Tary
Vance and John Vance, also preceded him in death. Survivors include his sister
Millie Tomblin of Lavalette, W.Va.; his one son, Frank Jr. of Alexandria, Va.,
and three grandchildren, Jessica Hope Vance of Alexandria, Va., Laura Frances
Vance of Nashville, Tenn., and Joshua Franklin Vance of Jacksonville, N.C.; and
a host of loving family and friends. A memorial service will be conducted at
Morris Funeral Home, Wayne, W.Va., on Saturday, July 9, 2011, at 11 a.m.
Interment will be at Community Memorial Gardens, Wayne. In lieu of flowers, the

LORENA SALYER WHITE BALL, 87, of Louisa, entered
into eternal rest June 14, 2011 after a long illness. Lorena was born May 19,
1924 in Johnson County Ky., the fifth of nine children born to the late Irvin
and Zelda (Murray) Salyer. She was a homemaker, avid quilter, gardener and
expert seamstress working at the Louisa Sewing Factory until its closing and
later worked at J.J. Jordan Geriatric Center while training to be a CNA. After
graduating from high school Lorena joined the war effort by traveling to
Michigan to work as a riveter in a B-24 Bomber Plane Factory. She was a member
of the First Baptist Church. Lorena was preceded in death by a son, Wayne "Red"
White, husbands Clifton White and Clyde Ball, two brothers, Bertell Salyers and
Cornell Salyers, one sister, Okedell Clancy. Survivors include four children:
Zelda, Sergeant of Flatwoods, Larry (Cathie) White of Ashland, Mary (Larry)
Mosley of Blaine, Gary (Rosie) White of Fallsburg; nine grandchildren, eight
great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. Surviving siblings: Chad
Salyer of PA, Willard (Ann) Salyer of Ohio, Odessa Glover of PA, Florence
Shinkle of OH and Galena Phillips of OH. Funeral services are scheduled for
Friday at Young Funeral Home Chapel with burial at the Ball Cemetery in Adams,
KY.

BILLY GENE ELLIS, 51, of Huntington, passed away
Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at his residence. Funeral services will be conducted 11
a.m. Saturday, June 18, 2011, at Chapman's Mortuary with Rev. Sam Adkins and
Pastor John Harris officiating. Burial will be in Porter, Ellis, Adkins

ROY McSWEENEY, 74, of Hawthorne passed away
unexpectedly at the Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida. He was born in
Wayne, West Virginia and resided there throughout his childhood. He was a
resident of Hawthorne, FL for the past eight months coming from Melrose, FL. He
enjoyed working in the yard, especially mowing the grass. He loved time with his
family and meeting new people. He was passionately known to his family and
friends as "John Wayne" and for picking up cans while riding his scooter. He is
preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Olga McSweeney and a son, Jack
Wesley McSweeney. Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Sharon McSweeney of
Hawthorne, FL; his sons and daughter-in-law, Roy Vernon McSweeney, Jr and wife
Dana and Anthony Wade McSweeney; his daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Jason
Bailey of Hawthorne, FL; his brothers and sister- in- law, Donald McSweeney of

graduate of Marshall University, and was a former educator in the Lawrence

Survivors include a sister Donna Fisher of Dublin, Ohio; former husband and

STEPHEN BRET WELLMAN, 49, of Kenova, W.Va., passed
suddenly on June 22, 2011. He was preceded in death by his father Larry Gene
Wellman of Kenova, whom he missed and cherished his entire life, until his

two sets of grandparents, William (Ruby) Taylor and Elzie (Bertha) Wellman, both
of Kenova. Steve was a 1980 graduate of Buffalo High School of Wayne County. He
was a conductor for the CSX Railroad for 30 years and a member of the Buffalo
Valley Missionary Baptist Church. Steve's greatest joy came from coaching and
watching his boys play ball. He is survived by his beautiful wife of 20 years,

HOOVER ASBURY, 79, of Wayne, W.Va., passed away at
his home June 24, 2011, after a brief battle with cancer. Funeral services will
be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, June 27, 2011, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel,
Wayne, by Pastor Fred Ferguson and Pastor Rick Perdue. Burial will follow at
Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Huntington, W.Va. Hoover was born March 17, 1932, in
East Lynn, W.Va., the youngest son of the late Moses and Minnie Davis Asbury. He
was a contractor who built homes in Putnam, Wayne and Lincoln counties. He was a
member of Wayne Baptist Church, which faithfully assisted him and his family
during his illness. Hoover loved his family deeply and prided himself on keeping
a well-manicured lawn. He took pride in his four girls, Mary, Janet Lynn, Rachel
and Abby and adored his one and only great-grandson, Heath. Hoover was preceded
in death by his beloved wife of 57-1/2 years, Mary Lycans Asbury in 2008, and by
eleven brothers and sisters, Lucian, Elmer, Claude, Woodrow, Tom, Barney, Bill,
Hartley, Pinky, Sally Griffin and Nannie Crabtree. Survivors include his loving
daughter Janet Perdue and husband David of Huntington; two granddaughters,
Abigail Lauren Perdue of Arlington, Va., and Rachel Asbury Turner and husband
Alexander of Huntington; and a special great-grandson, Heath. He is also
survived by a special brother, George Asbury and wife Eileen and special sister
Victoria Vaughn, all of Huntington, along with a host of nieces and nephews.

porch and never took for granted the things that are important in this life. She

ALMA MAUREEN CLAY, 81, of Warner Robins, Georgia
and formerly of Culloden, W.Va., passed away on June 26, 2011, at Pine Pointe
Hospice in Macon, Georgia. Before moving to Warner Robins, she attended
Hurricane First Church of the Nazarene. She retired from Walt Disney World in
1999. She was born November 9, 1929. to the late Hollister and Rebecca Humphreys
O'dell. She was preceded in death by husband Lawrence M. Clay and daughter Carol
Barnett, son-in-law Dan Runion, brothers Joe O'dell and Gilmer O'dell. She is
survived by daughters and their husbands Linda (Art) Barnett of Culloden, Pam
(John) Egnor of Wayne, son Greg (Marilyn) Clay of Warner Robins; grandchildren
Jimmy (Jill) Barnett of Sebastian, Fla., Eric Barnett of Yukon, Okla., Jack

CHARLES H. GILKERSON, 88, of Prichard, West
Virginia, went home to the Lord on Monday, June 27, 2011, at the VA Hospital in
Huntington. "Chalk" as he was known to friends, was born on December 19, 1922 in
Wayne County, West Virginia, the son of Frank and Minnie Gilkerson. He is
survived by his sisters, Dorothy Lycan of Prichard, and Jean McComas of Wooster,
Ohio. His brothers, Dick, Claude and Herb preceded him in death. In WWII Chalk
served as a staff sergeant in the AWS1 Marine night fighters unit stationed in
the Pacific Theater. Returning home he farmed and worked at A.K. Steel, until he
retired in 1983. Chalk is survived by Betty Collinsworth Gilkerson, his wife of
64 years, and their four children and their spouses: Sharon (Roger) Mitchell of
Prichard, W.Va.; Randy (Dee) Gilkerson of Morehead, Ky.; Bonnie (Don) Madden of
Winter Park, Fla.; and Doug (Renee) Gilkerson of Prestonsburg, Ky. Chalk and
Betty have eight grandchildren: Shannon, Toby, Beth, Josh, Kinsey, Doug, Katie
and Clint; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. A family
visitation and public viewing will be held on Saturday, July 2, from 6 to 8 p.m.
at the Reger Funeral Home in Huntington. The Reverend Danny Heaberlin and Pastor
Dennis Ashworth will conduct the funeral service at the Reger Funeral Chapel at
2 p.m. on Sunday, July 3, and internment will take place at Davis Cemetery in
Prichard, W.Va., immediately thereafter. The family has requested donations be

WILLIAM CARL "BUB" McDONALD, 76, of Branchland, WV,
went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 27, 2011 at the residence of his son.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 1, 2011 at Morris
Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, WV, by Brother Eddie McComas. Burial will follow at
the McDonald Family Cemetery on Napier Fork Road. He was born June 5, 1935 at
Logan, WV, a son of the late Ossie and Ethel McComas McDonald. Bub was a retired
welder for Terrell's Tool and Die Company. A son, William Elvis "Newt" McDonald
also preceded him in death. Survivors include three children and their spouses,
Drema "Jo" McDonald, Dale "Toad" McDonald and Regina Clark, and Kathy and Aubrey
Horn; six grandchildren and their spouses, Katrina McDonald and Oscar "Peewee"
Brooks, Robert McDonald and Amber Brant, William "Willie" McDonald and Alyssa
Dyer, David Horn, Matt 'Curry, and Michelle Curry; two great-grandchildren,
Betty Clare Brooks and Robert Xavier Scott McDonald; three sisters, Regina
McClellan, Geraldine Smith and Alma "Tea" Mills, along with numerous nieces,

ALDENA GILKERSON, 71, of East Lynn, WV, passed away
Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at Grayson Assisted Living Center at Lavalette, WV.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 2, 2011 at
Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, WV by Elders Roger Maynard and Ivory
Williamson. Burial will follow at the Jones Cemetery at East Lynn, WV. She was
born October 29, 1939 at Dunlow, WV, a daughter of the late Hansford and Lou
Matthews Gilkerson. She retired from Pilgrim Glass Company and was a member of
the Salem United Baptist Church. Her sisters, Helena Gager, Hildred Lowe, Wanda
Napier and Sylvia Jean Napier, and brothers Jasper, George, and Millard "Buck"
Gilkerson also preceded her in death. Survivors include a sister, Tennie Belle
Ferguson and husband, Charles of Danville, WV, and a brother-in-law, Austin

away Thursday, June 30, 2011, at Princeton Community Hospital from injuries
sustained in an automobile accident. Funeral services will be conducted at 11

Winslow, W.Va. She was born July 13, 1980, in Huntington, W.Va., a daughter of
Bobby and Jamie Suney Stephens of Huntington. She was a chef and graduate of
Cordon Bleu Culinary School. Her grandfather, Kang Ho In, and grandmother, Ida
Belle Stephens, preceded her in death. Additional survivors include her
daughter, Izabelle Rose, at home; four sisters, Un Kyung Corns and husband
David, Suneey Stevens and husband Michael, all of Huntington, W.Va., Ronda
Mathoniere and husband Philippe of Orlando, Fla., and Tina Stephens of
