DOROTHY ANN FRASHER, 88, of Fort Gay passed away on November 1, 2011. She is preceded in death by her parents James Porter and Audra Iva Scarberry Porter in addition to her husband Jessie Frasher. She is survived by one daughter; Betty Robinette of Fort Gay, one son Jessie Joe Frasher of Fort Gay, one sister Jean Akers of Ceredo in addition to four grandchildren and six step great-grandchildren. Funeral services were Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 2 p.m. officiated by Rev. John Cavins. Burial followed in the Frasher Cemetery in Fort Gay.

WETZEL LEWIS LAMBERT, 35, of Genoa, WV passed away on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at Cabell-Huntington Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 4, 2011 at the Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Frankie Fry officiating. Burial will follow in the Sias-Lambert Cemetery, Ranger. He was born on January 19, 1976 a son to the late Bradley Lambert and Christine Adkins Lambert. Survivors include his significant other: Rachel Talbert, 3 daughters: Nicole Jolene Lambert, Elva June Lambert, and Ella Jane Lambert, one sister Sandena Runyon of Ranger and two brothers, Bradley "Bo" Lambert of Wayne and Davy Lambert and wife Debbie of Kenova. LARRY JOE ADKINS, 64, of Wayne, W. Va., passed from this life into the next after a short battle with cancer, at his home on Wednesday, November 2, 2011. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, November 5, 2011, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Community Memorial Gardens, Wayne. He was born June 16, 1947 in East Lynn, W.Va., a son of the late William Jennings and Haney Drenner Adkins, and was preceded in death by four brothers and five sisters. Larry recently retired as an electrician from Steel of WV. He was a true family man, a loving husband, father and grandfather. Survivors include his loving wife of nearly 46 years, Glenna Baisden Adkins; his adored children, Melissa Moon and husband Gary of Genoa, W. Va., Mary Boothe and husband Brian of Lavalette, W.Va., Timothy Adkins and wife Regina of Lavalette, W. Va., Melinda Clagg and husband Rodney of Ruther Glen, Va., and Marsha Conley and husband Tony of Wayne, W. Va.; his beloved grandchildren Amanda, Amber and Courtney Moon, Gavin and Carson Boothe, Caitlin Hammonds, Morgan, Heath and Laykin Adkins, Larry Fox, Reagan and Cooper Clagg and Alexis Conley; three sisters, Hester Anderson of Michigan, Tennessee Frye of Wayne, W. Va., Mary Honeycutt of Kentucky. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Morris Funeral Home, Wayne, W. Va. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Huntington.

LENORA G. TROGDON VAN VALKENBURG, 73, of New Port Richey, Fla., formerly of Wayne County, W. Va., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011, at her residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, W. Va., by Pastor Michael Dillon. Burial will follow at the Spurlock Cemetery at Wayne. She was born Sept. 5, 1938, at Wayne, W. Va., a daughter of the late Ed and Arma Fraley Trogdon. She was a retired nurse's aide and was a member of the First Baptist Church of New Port Richey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Malver Van Valkenburg. Survivors include two daughters, Teresa Chapman and husband Lea of Minneapolis, Minn., and Kathy Parker and husband Chuck of Columbus, Ohio; a son, Randall Poindexter of New Port Richey, Fla.; two sisters, Ida Sheets and husband Charles, and Ann Guadagna both of New Port Richey, Fla.; one brother, Jim Ed Trogdon and wife Geraldine of Wayne; and eight grandchildren, Aaron, Shad, Trinity, Katy, Shakira, Desi, Dylan and Dakota. OTTO PACK, 73, of Reynoldsburg, formerly Of Lawrence County, KY, passed away November 3, 2011 at Mt. Carmel East Hospital, Columbus, OH. Mr. Pack was preceded in death by his parents, Macadoo Pack and Lois Thompson Pack. Surviving is a daughter, Lisa (Steve) Webb of Reynoldsburg, OH and one granddaughter, Erin Webb. Funeral services will be held at Wilson Funeral Home, Louisa, KY, at 1:00 pm Saturday, November 4, 2011 with Rev. Ronnie Childers officiating. Burial will follow in the Pack Cemetery at Charley, KY. BOYD NEWMAN ADKINS JR., 90, of Wheelersburg, Ohio, formerly of Wayne County, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 3, 2011, at the Huntington Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 6, 2011, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, W.Va., by Pastor Charlie Green. Burial will follow at Dock's Creek Cemetery, Kenova, W.Va., with military graveside rites conducted by American Legion Post 93 of Kenova. He was born July 8, 1921, in Logan, W.Va., a son of the late Boyd Newman and Bessie Clark Adkins. Boyd was a retired transport driver for IBC Trucking and was a member of the Philadelphia United Baptist Church at Lavalette, W.Va., and attended Grace Independent Baptist Church of Greenup, Ky. He served with the U.S. Air Force during World War II as a 1st Lieutenant with the 368th Fighter Squadron. He flew 69 combat missions in a P-51 Fighter. He was also a member of Wayne Masonic Lodge # 18, AF&AM. Three brothers, Jake, Norman and Jack Adkins also preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Lucille Williamson Adkins; two daughters, Donna Montavon and husband Jim of Modesto, Calif., and Vanessa Kennon of Nashville, Tenn.; a son Boyd Adkins III and wife Elisa of Wheelersburg, Ohio; two sisters, Stella Maynard and Jean Maynard and husband Clevis of Proctorville, Ohio; a brother Bill Adkins and wife Betty of Hurricane, W.Va.; six grandchildren, Tiffany Colombo and Jillienne McFadyen, both of Oakdale, Calif., James Montavon of Modesto, Calif., Broc Adkins of Portsmouth, Ohio, Boyd Adkins IV of Texas, and Sloane England of Nashville, Tenn.; and seven great-grandchildren. BARBARA J. POWERS

"Don't tell God how big the storm is, Tell the storm how big your God is." BARBARA J. POWERS, 67, of Lavalette, W. Va., passed away on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. Celebration of life will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7, 2011, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Carol McKay officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery, Kenova. She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Lyle Powers. Barbara is the daughter of Maria Perry and the late Alva Perry. She was born on Nov. 23, 1943, in Baltimore, Md. Her family returned to Wayne, where she was raised. She was a 1961 graduate of Wayne High School and a graduate of Marshall University with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. She was a member of the Lavalette United Methodist Church, often serving as a lay leader. She was also a member of the Lavalette Woman's Club and the Alpha Lambda Chapter of Alpha Kappa Sorority for female educators. In addition, she worked with Habitat for Humanity. Barbara enjoyed painting and drawing, especially with the Praise Painters. She retired from the Wayne County Board of Education with over 25 years of teaching experience at Lavalette Elementary, Wayne Middle and Wayne Elementary. Additional survivors include three children, Mike Powers and his wife Christine of Huntington, Sara Stapleton and husband Doug of Huntington, and April Adkins and husband Mark of Williamstown, W.Va.; five grandchildren, Samantha "Sammi Jo" and Elizabeth "Ellie" Stapleton, Kyle Powers, and Mason and Sophia Adkins; one sister, Susan Borneman of Minneapolis, Minn.; and one brother, Jeff Perry of Huntington, W. Va.; along with several nieces and nephews, and a host of close friends. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Dr. Arvinder Bir and his staff, Vicki Hemlapp, Dr. Gary Patton and the entire Oncology Department at St. Mary's Medical Center for their dedication, care and compassion over this past year. CLYDE TAYLOR FIFE, 37, of Huntington, passed away on Friday, Nov. 4, 2011, at St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted on 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7, 2011, at the Reger Funeral Chapel by Pastor Jerome Whitfield. Burial will follow at the Lowes Cemetery, Wayne, W. Va. Clyde was born on Dec. 29, 1973, in Columbus, Ohio, the son of Clyde Muncy and the late Brenda Fife. Clyde was active in the West Youth Football League. BLANCHE IRENE MASSIE, 96, of Prichard passed away on November 4, 2011. She is preceded in death by her parents Benjamin Bellomy and Rosetta Ellis Bellomy in addition to her husband Homer Bell Massie and a son Homer G. Massie. She is survived by four daughters; Joyce Jeffers of East Palestine, Ohio, Christine Jeffers of Leetonia, Ohio, Barbara Hardin of Prichard, and Lynn Williamson of Prichard, three sons Freddie Massie of Prichard, Dennis Massie of Prichard and Richard Massie of Prichard, one brother Ben Bellomy of Ohio in addition to 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were scheduled for Monday November 7, at 2 p.m. at Young's Chapel. Burial followed in the Massie Cemetery in Billups Gap Fort Gay, WV.

ELFREDA ALICE ZIMMERMAN, 59, of Kenova died Saturday, November 5, 2011, at the Heritage Center in Huntington. She was born December 17, 1951, in Huntington to the late Harry Sr. and Ruby Mooney Zimmerman. Mrs. Zimmerman is survived by her children Tim Clark, Tammy Clark and Michael Clark, along with a brother Harry Zimmerman Jr. Additional survivors include her grandchildren Darion Whitt, Gabriel Whitt, Isabella Clark, and Olivia Clark along with a host of other relatives and friends. ACIE CHARLES McCOY, 83, of Huntington, W.Va., passed away Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011, at Huntington Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born May 13, 1928, in Wayne County, W. Va., a son of Blandon and Bessie Qualls McCoy. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Owedia Mae Slone McCoy; and his special friend, Anna Cummings. He was retired from the Huntington State Hospital. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, James M. and Donna McCoy, and Darrell McCoy and Tammy Taylor, all of Huntington; three grandchildren, James Daniel McCoy of Huntington, Melissa Mullens and her husband Jason Mullens of Kenova, and Donald Moore of Huntington; and three great-grandchildren, Makaylah Harrison and Jase Mullens of Kenova, and Abigail Moore of New Haven, W.Va. ROSE MARIE CHAFFINS, 67, of Ceredo, W. Va., wife of Glen Roger Chaffins, passed away Nov. 5, 2011, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, after a struggle with Alzheimer's. She was born May 26, 1944, the daughter of the late Madelyn and Clyde Howell. In addition to her parents, a nephew, Matthew Beaty, preceded her in death. She graduated from Huntington High and was retired from the Wayne County Board of Education as a secretary at Ceredo Elementary at the time of her retirement. She also leaves behind her children, Gary Steele and wife Debbie of Barboursville, Jana Hatten and husband Sean of Jacksonville, Fla., and Michelle McCallister and husband Mark of Barboursville, W. Va. In addition, she leaves behind her stepchildren, Kathy Bradach and husband Steve of Minnesota, Lenny Chaffins and wife Paula of Virginia, and Cheryl Chaffins of Huntington. She also leaves behind her sisters, Barbara Holbrook and the late Sam Holbrook, Linda Beaty and husband Harold, both of Huntington; and a brother and sister-in-law, Robert K. and Teresa Chaffins of Richmond, Ky. She also leaves 10 grandchildren that she adored, Zachary Steele and fiance Laura Mader, Ashley and Emiley Hatten, Madelyn and Mason McCallister, Jason and Tessa Eavenson, Hannah Bradach, Zachary and Megan Chaffins; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, special cousins-in-law, Jerry and Wanda Chaffins; and close friends. ESTELLE WILLIAMSON CRUM of Bull Creek, Crum, W. Va., passed away Nov. 5, 2011, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born Feb. 16, 1922, a daughter of James and Lucinda Salmons Williamson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert D. Crum; son, Delmas Ronald Crum; grandson, Christopher Crum; sister, Reba Williamson Ramey; brothers, Roy Williamson, Walter Williamson, Clifton Williamson, Cecil Williamson and Cullie Williamson. Estelle was a devout Christian. She was a faithful member of the Silver Creek United Baptist Church in Crum W.Va., having joined that church on Sept. 25, 1939. Estelle is survived by special brother, James and Mary Williamson; children, John and Patricia Crum Smith, Eldon and Ora Lee Gillman Crum, Cecil and Lois Waller Crum, Chester and Blitta Lowery Crum; daughter-in-law, Louise and Lelon Williamson; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Lowella, Benny, Benji and Sarah Dillon, Denise, Greg, Lakin, Kelsey and Jarin Hall, Rebecca, Mark and Kenzye Muncie, Eldon Crum Jr. and Nevaeh Crum, Justin, Crystal, Raegen, Haleigh and Chase Crum, Matthew, Jeneva Addison and Hannah Crum, Mackie and Timmy Williams, Del, Rebecca, Hunter and Cody Crum, Cecil Crum Jr., Jessica, Devon, Dustin and Jacey Crum; step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, Jay, Diana, Wesley and Little Wesley Smith, Amy, Mason and Andrew Herring, Beth and Norah Campbell, Stephanie Smith, Mike and Katrina Smith, Mike and Haven Dillon, and Missy and Hud Harmon; and 45 nieces and nephews. Estelle was well-loved and respected by many in the community, and especially by her in-laws, the Crum family. She loved reading her Bible and spending time with family and friends. AMY LYNN HARMON BOSTER, 40 of Huntington, WV passed away Saturday, November 5, 2011 at her residence. A memorial service will be conducted at Westmoreland Baptist Church on Friday,November 11, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. by Rev. Kevin Howerton and Dr. C. J. Adkins. Amy was born December 18, 1970 in Huntington, WV a daughter of John Fred Harmon II and Ramah Howerton Harmon. Preceding her in death was her paternal grandfather, John Fred Harmon. She is survived by two sons, Sean Michael Boster, Aaron Christopher Boster and one daughter Kellie Elizabeth Boster all of Huntington. In addition, two brothers, John (Jay) William Harmon of Columbus, OH, Robert Christopher Harmon, MD, Ph.D and his wife Vanessa Daisy Lee, MD of Charlottesville, VA; maternal grandparents, William B. and Betty Lee Howerton and paternal grandmother, Anna Mae Harmon all of Huntington also survive her. Four uncles and their wives; Stephen E. Howerton, DDS and his wife Cathy; David Keith Howerton and his wife Cheryl all of Huntington, Rev. Kevin Gene Howerton and his wife Sue of Princeton, WV; and Paul Jordan Harmon and his wife Terry of Elkins, WV. A host of aunts, uncles, cousins, one niece and seven nephews survive her as well. DONNA ELLEN BURNS JOHNSON, 55, of Hurricane, WV passed away Saturday, November 5, 2011 at Teays Valley Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at the Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Wayne, WV. Donna was born on April 10, 1956 in Charleston, WV. She was preceded in death by her parents: Paul Randolph & Dorothy Virginia Burns and her niece, Christie Marie Bowling. Survivors include husband: Larry Johnson; a son Larry Joseph Johnson and wife Christine of Columbus, Ohio; a daughter Tamika Renee and husband Sam Jin of South Korea; a sister Cynthia and husband Roger Stanley of Hurricane; two brothers Paul Steven Burns and Michael Burns all of Koeburn, Va; brother in law: William Johnson of Fort Gay, 6 Grandchildren & numerous nieces and nephews. ROBERT RAY "BUCKY" HOLLEY JR., of Louisa passed away Monday, November 7, 2011 at Kings Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, KY. Robert was born on May 20, 1977 in Columbus, OH, the son of Robert Ray Holley Sr. and Carolyn Moore Holley. He was an assembly line operator for Allevard Springs/SO GEFI USA. Survivors include a wife, Melissa Scolpini Holley of Louisa, KY; 3 sons, Anthony Courtney of Louisa, KY, Justin Courtney of Louisa, KY, and Robert Ray Holley III of Louisa, KY; a daughter, Anna Marie Holley of Louisa, KY; a sister, Elizabeth (Tim) Ann Martin of Louisa, KY; a maternal grandmother, Virginia Moore Priode of Fallsburg, KY; a niece, Holly Ann Martin; a nephew, Tyler Wayne Martin. DAVID LEE ESLICK, 53, of Fort Gay, W. Va., went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 7, 2011. Survivors include his wife Tenia Marcum Eslick, daughters Jennifer and Leann Eslick, and granddaughter Lyndsay Damron, all of Fort Gay; his mother Jannivee Eslick Copley and step-father Jesse Copley of Dunlow, W. Va.; brother James Allen (Wanda) Eslick and sister Connie (Johnny) Hundley of Dunlow, W. Va.; sisters Billie (Don) Browning and Sara (Grover) Copley of Fort Gay, W. Va.; and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. David was preceded in death by his father James Louis Eslick, maternal grandparents Nathan and Sarah Perry, nephew Johnny Howard Hundley Jr., two uncles Henry and Allen Perry and a dear cousin and friend Russell Perry, all of Dunlow, W. Va. David was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who cherished his wife, daughters, granddaughter, family and friends. EDNA MARIE YOUNG, 79, formerly of Kenova, W. Va., passed away Monday, November 7, 2011, in the Terrace at Fleming Island in Fleming Island, Florida. Interment will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Barboursville, W. Va. Edna was born September 26, 1932, in Huntington, W. Va., a daughter of the late Joseph Ned and Goldie Marie Bocook Elkins. She was a retired bank teller from the First National Bank of Kenova and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kenova. Besides her parents, Edna was also preceded in death by her beloved husband Herman Clifford Young and daughter-in-law Nancy Young. Survivors include one son Danny L. DONALD ELBA "DONNIE" HALE, 51, of Huntington, W. Va., died Monday, November 7, 2011, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, November 11, 2011, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, W. Va., with Brother Pat Elliott officiating. Donnie was the owner of H&H Construction Company. His paternal grandparents, Jenks and Perlina Isaacs Hale and his maternal grandparents, Lucian and Georgia Maynard Perry, also preceded him in death. In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sons, Devon Keith Hale and Virgil Nathan Hale, both of Huntington, a granddaughter, Abigail Hale, several aunts and uncles and a special friend, Ray Johnson. REV. GALLIE ISAAC SR., 94, of Louisa went to be with his Lord on Tuesday November 8, 2011. Gallie was born February 13, 1917 in Louisa, the son of the late Martin and Nancy Jane Compton Isaac. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years Helen Liesegang Isaac who died in 2009, a son Billy Joe Isaac who died in 1983, four brothers Elmer, Mart, Tom,and Jeff; and three sisters, Luttie Wellman, Minni Schomburg, and Emma L Roberts. On July 10, 1943 Gallie became a ordained minister, founding Isaac Park Church in 1968 and Wilson Chapel Church the following year. He served as Lawrence County Livestock Inspector from 1949 thru 1962 being elected Lawrence County Court Clerk in 1962 serving to 1976. Gallie is survived by three daughters Anna (Jim) Sellards, Martha Smith, and Lois (Lee) Webb all of Louisa; three sons Gallie Isaac Jr., Charles (Joy) Isaac, and Bobby (Geneva) Isaac also of Louisa; twelve grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted by Revs. Clifford Austin and Mack Ray Cyrus on Saturday November 12th at 1:00 pm at the Isaac Park Church. Burial will follow in the Isaac Park Cemetery. PANSY J. ADKINS TABOR, wife and companion of Danny Tabor of Dunlow, W. Va. went to be with her Lord on Friday, November 25, 2011. She was born September 26, 1936 in Logan County, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Elva and Wetzel Adkins. One daughter, Avenell Harvey also preceded her in death, along with two sisters, Shirley Adkins of Kenova, W. Va., and Christine Lambert of Brush Creek; and three brothers, Tester Adkins of Wayne, Mitchell Adkins, and Delmar Adkins of Ranger. Survivors include her husband of 16 years, Danny Tabor, who loved her very much; three sisters, Kesslene Prolow and husband Ed of Milton, W. Va., Marie Burress of West Hamlin, and Norma June McCoy of Kenova; two brothers, Walter Adkins of Kenova, and James L. Adkins and wife Linda of Wayne; two sons, Walter Adkins and Donald Ray Adkins, both of Dunlow; very special daughter, Linda Pearl Adkins of Dunlow, who helped take care of her. Also surviving are three stepsons, David Lynn Tabor, Paul Ray Tabor, and Duane Edward Tabor; one step-granddaughter, Jasimine Danielle Tabor, all of Wayne; good friend Frances Tabor of Wayne; two brothers-in-law, Ronald Tabor of Big Creek, and Carlton Ray Tabor and his wife Betty of Garrett's Creek; special friends Sara and Roy Matthew of Dunlow; Kathey and Charlie Adkins of Dunlow, and Brandy Anderson and her daughter Gebby. Pansy was of Pentecostal faith and a member of Milton Highlawn Church of God, the members of which were so generous during her time of need. She loved her Lord and Savior as well as all her friends and nephews. She will be sadly missed by her family. IRENE MAYNARD, 97, of Bo Bo Road, Beaver, OH passed away Monday, November 28, 2011 at Southern Ohio Medical Center Hospice. She was born Feb. 10, 1914 in Wayne, WV, a daughter of the late Johnson and Tennessee (Smith) Robertson. On February 17, 1933, she was united in marriage to Clyde Maynard who preceded her in death December 14, 2002. She was a homemaker and a member of Paul's Chapel United Baptist Church. Survivors include three sons; Robert(Ann) Maynard of Sommersville, WV, Ronnie (Janet) Maynard of Beaver, Otis (Lenora ) Maynard of Jackson, four daughters; Jo Ann (Tommy) Wallace of Beaver, Phyllis (Ron) Clark and Bonnie (Ty) Cramer both of Upper Sandusky, Myrtle (Grover) Tackett of Omega, two sisters; Gladys Brown of WV, Mary Solvia of LA, one brother; Willie Robertson of WV, 26 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and 25 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sons; Julius, Autis, and Clyde Jr, three brothers; Millard Robertson, Virgil Robertson and Frank Robertson. Funeral services are planned for 11 A.M. GREY MAYNARD of Wilmington, N.C., formerly of Kenova, W. Va., died Wednesday, November 30, 2011, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, after a brief illness. He was born October 11, 1924, in Kenova, son of the late Julian Maynard and Isadore Dyer Maynard, and was preceded in death by Eileen, his wife of 57 years. Grey was a graduate of Pikeville (Ky.) High School and Huntington Business College. Mr. Maynard was veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Iran for most of his military service. He retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad after working in various clerical capacities. In 1953, he helped organize the first Little League baseball program in Ceredo-Kenova, serving as the league's initial Vice President. Before moving to North Carolina, Grey was a member of the Kenova United Methodist Church, where he held many church offices. He was past member of the Kenova Floodwall Board. He helped to formulate the current government charter for the town of Kenova, and for a number of years was the official scorekeeper for the C-K High School basketball team. Surviving is his son Rev. Randy Maynard and wife Cindy of Hampstead, N.C., grandsons Mitchell Maynard of Raleigh, N.C., and Marshall Maynard of Cincinnati, Ohio; special nieces Marcia Billups of Chatham, Ohio and Maxine Jenkins of Huntington, W.Va.; and a special nephew Ron Lester of Kenova. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, December 5, 2011, at Spring Valley Memory Gardens, Huntington, W.Va. A celebration of life and the homegoing of ETHEL ADAMS ELLIS-HALE, 90, of Huntington, W. Va., will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Greg Wells. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Wayne, W. Va. She was born Aug. 7, 1921, in Premier, W. Va., the daughter of the late Avery Astor and Brook Rife Adams. She was preceded in death by her first husband of over 50 years, Roy Augustus Ellis; one sister, Ruth Adams Thompson Harrell; three brothers, Robert Earl, David Hurdle and Herman Boone Adams. Ethel graduated from Welch High School in 1940. After moving to Wayne, W. Va., in the early 1950s she was employed by the Wayne Gas Company and later worked at the Wayne County News, where she became known as "Windy Ellis" through her weekly column "Round about Town." After retiring from the newspaper, she worked at the Department of Welfare in Wayne County. Throughout her life, Ethel was an avid reader. Also, writing poetry was second nature to her. Many of her poems and stories were published. At the age of 88, she wrote the story of her life, which can be read online at www.ethelellis.blogspot.com. She was a faithful member of Trinity Chapel and was truly loved by her church family. Survivors include her loving husband of 14 years, Jackie Hale; two sons, Roy-Astor "Corky" Ellis and wife Paulette, Jeffery Lane Ellis and wife Margaret; two stepchildren, Sandra Stephens and husband Mike, Mark Hale and wife Peggy; three grandchildren, Sara Simpson and husband Phil, Tom Ellis and wife Stephanie, Jenny Gue and husband Justin; four step-grandchildren, Sarah Damron and husband Jared, Kristen Stephens, Matthew and Rebekah Hale. She was the proud great-grandmother of nine -- Zachary and Molly Simpson, Nathan, Bradley and Avery Ellis, Bella and Emma Gue, Andrew and Lauren Damron; along with a very special 4-year-old friend, Molly Blankenship. She had many nieces and nephews whom she loved and kept in touch with until her brief illness. Ethel will always be remembered for her captivating smile. BERTHA MAE COMBS, 75, of Wayne, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 30, 2011. She was born November 10, 1936 in Wayne County, a daughter of the late Otto and Lillie Perdue Pauley. Survivors include her loving husband, Jack Combs; three daughters, Glenna Davis and her husband Robert of Huntington, Jackie Hall and her husband Jack of Wayne, and Jenny Combs of North Carolina; one son, Jr. Combs and his wife Rhonda of Wayne; four grandchildren, Ronnie Combs, Crystal Adkins, Lillie Sloan, all of Wayne, and Kayla Davis of Huntington; and eight great-grandchildren, Nathan, Shane, Jonathon, Sierra, Katelyn, Ashley, Matthew, and Blaine.
