BETTY JEAN CALDWELL FISHER, 85, of Ashland, Ky., formerly of Kenova, W. Va., died Monday, July 2, 2012, at the Woodland Oaks Care Center. She was born January 28, 1927 in Brahome, W. Va., to the late Lee and Bessie Farra Workman. Mrs. Fisher was a member of the Rockdale Full Gospel Assembly. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Joseph Caldwell, brothers Paul Workman and Ray Workman and a sister, Jeanie Connor. Survivors include two daughters, Judy Hibner of Florence, Ky., and Carolyn Skeens of Kenova; three sons, Frank Caldwell, Jr., of Miller, Ohio, Denver Caldwell of Cummings, Ga., and Larry Caldwell of Kenova. Additional survivors include nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great- great-grandchild, along with a brother Fred Workman of Cleveland, Ohio, and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Ruth Stewart, Edith Rakes, Louise Raylog and Jenny Reeves, and a brother Earl Workman. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Ceredo-Kenova Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Willis officiating. Burial will follow in the Docks Creek Cemetery. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 4, 2012, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Otis Bowens, Brother Scott Marshall and Pastor Jody Lucas officiating. Burial will follow at Community Memorial Gardens, Wayne. She was born on January 17, 1916, in East Lynn, W.Va., to the late Arnold Justice and Nannie Asbury Justice. Erie was a homemaker and was a member of East Lynn Church of God since she was a teenager. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Oscar Russell, grandson Tim Russell, sister Carma Lee Runyon and son-in-law Dillard Estep. She is survived by three daughters, Minnie Estep of Lavalette, W.Va., Anna Wellman (Jack) of Wayne, W. Va., and Ruby Jean Ross (Claude) of Columbus, Ohio; four sons, Arnold Russell (Janice), Roger Russell, Carl Russell (Anna) and Edward Russell, all of Wayne, W.Va.; sister Helen Adkins (Bob) of Huntington, W.Va.; three brothers, Frank Justice (Bev) of Elyria, Ohio, Arnold Justice Jr. (Emogene) of Genoa, W.Va., and Oscar Justice (Joann) of Wayne, W.Va. ROY LESLIE GWILLIAMS died July 3, 2012, in his home surrounded by family. He was born July 28, 1936, and was married to Betty Joanne Adkins Gwilliams for 56 years. Roy worked many years as a carpenter and cabinet installer for Chandler's Plywood, and retired with 25 years at CSX Railroad. He loved to fish and camp with his family and worked at remodeling his home. Roy had four children, Leslie Jo Thibodeau, Marcia Gwilliams, Fred Gwilliams and Kim Runyon; and he loved very much his 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He and his wife recently moved to Florence, Ky., after living several years in the Westmoreland area of Huntington. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at the Westmoreland Baptist Church, 3401 Hughes St., by Dr. C.J. Adkins. Burial will follow in Spring Valley Memory Gardens. She was born April 29, 1949 in Louisa, Ky. a daughter of Willie Ray and Barbara Boys Spears. She was a Court Marshall for the Mingo County Circuit Court and she was a member of Saltpetre Christian Baptist Church. Frieda was preceded in death by one sister, Connie Hanshaw. Survivors include her loving husband, Colin Kelley of Williamson; one daughter, Amanda (Terry) Kelley Jackson of Columbus, Ohio; one son, Cole (Shelley) Kelley of Williamson; Parents, Willie Ray and Barbara Spears of Fort Gay; two brothers, Buck (Patty) Spears and Billy (Tammy) Spears all of Fort Gay; 3 Grandchildren; Malia Jackson, Jaylon Jackson and Chloe Kelley. CALVIN YORK, age 84, of Inez, Ky., passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2012, at Martin County Health Care Facility in Inez. Born Feb. 16, 1928, in Kermit, W.Va., he was the son of the late Thomas and Bessie Justice York. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Oretha Muncy York; three sisters, Virginia York, Nada June Baisden and Billie York Owen; and one brother, Tommy York. He is survived by his wife, Glendene Muncy York; one daughter, Kymberly (York) and Bob Blake of Huntington, W.Va.; two stepsons, Terry (Evelyn) Spence of Inez, and James David (Eva) Spence, also of Inez; one brother, Donnie York of Raceland, Ky.; two sisters, Sarah York Newland of Catlettsburg, Ky., and Lilliane (Doug) Giomi of Columbus, Ohio; three grandchildren, Angela Spence Newsome, Allan Blake of Huntington, Alicia (Blake) Clayborn of Huntington; one step-grandson, Jeremiah Damron of Inez; six great-grandchildren, Anika and Axel Newsome, Annalee Kate Newsome on the way, Blake Clayborn, Morgan Clayborn and Rylee Jayce Damron. He was the manager of Inez Automotive Supply for over 50 years. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2012, in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery at Louisa, Ky. Friends may visit the funeral home from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and until the time of service on Friday. Tim McCoy will officiate. ESTIL C. LAWSON, 34, of Calico Rd. Louisa, Ky., died suddenly Thursday July 5, 2012 after an accident. He was born July 6, 1977 in Louisa, a son of the late Edison and Gretta Vanover Lawson. He was disabled. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Amos Vanover. Survivors include his fiance, Karen Sue Cyrus, Louisa, Ky., daughter; Jennifer Cyrus, Ft. Gay, W. Va., two sisters; Janie Booth, Wayne, W. Va., and Jennie Johnson, Louisa, Ky. Graveside services were 1 pm Monday July 9, 2012 at Lawson Family Cemetery, Louisa, Ky. with Rev. Tommy Adams officiating.
HELEN A. LEWIS, 87, of Westmoreland, Huntington, W.Va., passed away Saturday, July 7, 2012, of a sudden heart attack. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Lavalette United Methodist Church by Carol McKay. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Wayne, W.Va. She was the daughter of the late Oscar and Sallie Bowen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Donald O. Lewis; a brother, Colin P. Bowen; and two sisters, Alma Bloss and Geraldine Hardwick. Helen is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Tammy Lewis, Stephen and Sharon Lewis, and Michael and Donna Lewis; five grandchildren, Cassandra J. Lewis, Zachary Lewis, Dr. Joshua Cusick-Lewis, Adam Lewis and Katelyn Lewis; and two great-grandchildren, Landon Lewis and Madison Graham. Helen was a lifelong homemaker and was a member of the Lavalette United Methodist Church. She was a sweet and giving soul, who will be deeply missed. www.regerfh.com.DARLENE (BING) PAULEY, age 70, of Rittman, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at Hospice of Medina County in Medina, July 7, 2012. Heaven got a little brighter when Darlene went home to walk with the Lord after a long courageous battle with lung disease. Darlene was born February 10, 1942 in Wayne, West Virginia, to Lucian and Mary (Mills) Bing. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving sister, Lois "Sammie" Clason, and her loving brothers, Edgel Bing, Lucian "Junior" Bing, and Clovis "Rayb" Bing, an infant granddaughter, Kristina Kay, and loving companion, Ernie Kirby. Surviving are her children, who will miss, their mother deeply, sons, Dennis (Suzanne) Pauley, Roger (Becky) Pauley, her daughters, Pamela (Bud) Derenberger, Mary Beth (Scott) Rutt, Valeria (Rick) LaBuda and Brenda (Dan) Nott; 14 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister, Barbara (Lonnie) Walker of West Virginia; and brothers, Appie Bing of Rittman, Doug (Ruth) Bing of Sterling, Larry (Judy) Bing of Rittman, and many nieces and nephews. She enjoyed reading the Bible and trusted in her God. Darlene also enjoyed crocheting, working her puzzle books, reading, shopping, bird watching and spending time with her family. A special heartfelt "Thank You" to her youngest daughter and caregiver, Brenda, from her brothers and sisters for taking such special care of their mother. TIMMY DEE JOHNSON, 32, of Louisa, Ky, died July 8, 2012 after a sudden illness. He was a construction worker at C.J. Hughes Construction Co., Inc. He was born March 18, 2012 in Ashland, Ky., a son of Joseph and Linda Orders Johnson of Ft. Gay, W.Va, who survive. Other survivors include his loving wife Rachelle Bowen Johnson, of Louisa, Ky., one daughter; Shaylin Johnson, Louisa, Ky., two sons; Dakota Johnson, Louisa, Ky. and Austin Johnson, Louisa, Ky., one sister; Amy Riffe, Louisa, Ky., three brothers; Joseph Alan Johnson, Jeffrey Johnson and Joshua Johnson, all of Ft. NORMA Q. HUMPHREY, 94, of Wayne went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 9, 2012 at Emogene Dolin Hospice House in Huntington, WV. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at the Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne with Brother Danny Damron officiating. Burial will follow at Community Memorial Gardens, Wayne. She was born on December 25, 1917 to the late Wayne Queen and Nettie Tomblin Queen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Joseph F. Humphrey, four sisters Katie Moore, Esta Blevins, Marie Runyon and Irene Dingess and three brothers Sammie, Clyde and Bill Queen. ANNAMAE HANNAH KINSER, 92, of Kenova, W.Va., passed away Monday, July 9, 2012, at her residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 12, at Kenova Church of God with Rev. Mike Lucas officiating. Interment will follow in Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington. Annamae was born May 3, 1920, in Cora, W.Va., daughter of the late John B. and Mary Adeline St. Clair Hannah. She was a retired insurance department supervisor with Owens-Illinois with 42 years of service. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jack Herman Kinser. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Stephen Michael and Judith Ann Kinser of Huntington; one granddaughter, Dawn Marie Kinser of Huntington; two grandsons, Tommy D. Carson and his wife, Charae, and Steven E. Born May 26, 1936 at Zelda, Ky., she was a daughter of the late John and Lillie Hampton Workman. She was a loan officer for Paintsville Loan Company during her working years. She was also a member of the Rebeka Lodge and the Louisa Freewill Baptist Church. Survivors include one daughter; Sandra (Leon) Hataway, Granite Falls, N.C., one son; Clyde Gene (Robin) Johns, Catlettsburg, Ky., two sisters; Wilma Ruth Douglas, Tollesboro, Ky., and Thelma Zag, Columbus, Ohio, two brothers; Jay Workman, Zelda, Ky. and Claude Workman, Ashland, Ky., six grandchildren; Breanne Hataway, Trenton Hataway, Taylar Hataway, Whitney Genee’ Johns, Jacqui L. EVELYN THACKER, 90, formerly of Logan W.Va, went to be with her Lord on Monday, July 9, 2012 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, VA. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 am Friday, July 13, 2012 at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne WV with her Nephew David Hill officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens, Godby Heights, WV. She was born October 25, 1921 in Wayne County, WV, daughter of the late Thomas "Tom" and Elsie Ferguson Hill. Evelyn married Lawrence Thacker the" Love of her Life "on Aug 30 1941 in Pikeville Ky. Lawrence preceded her in death Nov 1988. Also preceding her in death were sisters, Alice Jones and Loeta Ferguson; a brother, Charles Hill , grandsons Roger Stallard Jr, Ralph Thacker Jr, Justin Thacker and granddaughter Kelly Adkins. Evelyn has six children all whom survive; Lawrence Thacker ( Kathy) of Maryville Tn, Joyce Allen (Everett) of Ringgold Ga., Gail George (Rich) , Ralph Thacker Montvale Va, Violet Gorsuch (Richard) Farmersville Tx, Linda Whitington (Russ) of Geneva Al three brothers; Man Hill, Dale Hill (Ann), Butch Hill ( Linda) two sisters; Aggie Mills , Donna Rowe(Leo) Eight-teen Grand-children , twenty-three Great-grandchildren and three Great Great-grandchildren. Evelyn was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing and her many flower gardens thru the years. When she became unable to do those things her joy came from phone calls and visits from her children. EVAN RICHARD FERGUSON, 21, of Huntington, W.Va., who, to our sorrow, left us unexpectedly on Monday, July 9, 2012. Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Reger Funeral Chapel. Burial followed in Spring Valley Memory Gardens, Huntington. He was born December 15, 1990 in Huntington, W.Va. a son of Scott and Phyllis Ferguson of Wayne, W.Va. He was an employee of Tudor Roofing Company and a 2009 graduate of Huntington High School. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents James R. and Reba Ferguson, maternal grandparents Jim and Winnie Cyrus, two uncles Philip Cyrus and Dorsey Hallman and a cousin Scotty Ferguson. Diana was born in Logan, WV on September 18, 1954, the daughter of the late Wolla George and Cubie Smith. She is also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Danielle Marie Pinson. Diana was the manager at Tudor’s Biscuit World for 13 years. He was born Feb. 28, 1933 in Louisa, a son of the late Daniel and Nola Maynard Lemaster. Mack retired from local 181 out of Ashland, Ky. Mack served the Lord for 35 years faithfully and would tell everyone whom would listen about his Heavenly Father. Survivors include, his loving wife of 8 1/2 yrs. Eloise (Robertson) Lemaster whom stood by his beside until the end. Four sons, Rick and his wife Rhonda of Louisa, Ky.; Mack D. Jr. (Mackie) and wife Debra (Debbie) of Louisa, Ky.; Oscar R. and wife Joyce of Louisa, Ky. ; Gary W. and wife Jessica of Louisa, ky.; one step son, R. Mack had 14 Grandchildren, 6 Great- Grandchildren and 4 Step- Grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, brother- in- laws and sister- in- laws whom stood by him until the end and Hospice was there throught it all. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Virginia A. (Branham) Lemaster; sister, Cloe (Lemaster) Holt; brothers, Ceil and Wayne Lemaster. Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Monday July 16, 2012 at Smith Chapel Church, Louisa, Ky. with Gary L. Robertson and Greg Caudill officiating. BETTY J. CHAPMAN SIMMONS, 84, of Huntington, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, July 12, 2012, at Huntington Health and Rehabilitation. Betty was born March 31, 1928, to the late Arnold and Margaret Chapman. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary A. Chapman and a brother George W. Chapman. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jack C. Simmons (Paula) and Jesse W. Simmons (Angie) and one daughter and son-in-law, Nora M. Ward (Steve); four sisters and brothers-in-law, Mae L. Welch (Robert), Patricia A. Hale, Zinna R. Erwin and Helen M. Tomblin (Obie) and three brothers and sisters-in-law, Samuel J. Chapman (Elaine), Arthur L. Chapman (Linda) and Denis H. Chapman (Debbie), six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Betty was a member of the Walnut Hills Church of the Nazarene and traveled all her life singing gospel music. Funeral services will be conducted at noon on Saturday by Pastor Fred McCarty and Jesse Simmons at the Reger Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington. Mrs. Barnett was born November 24, 1941, to the late Arthur and Leurie Browning Caldwell. A sister, Malta Caldwell Barnett also preceded her in death, along with two brothers, Denny Caldwell and Dallas Caldwell. Survivors include her loving husband of 48 years, Homer Barnett of Adel; one son, Rodger Barnett of Texas; one step-son Thomas R. Taylor of Mississippi; two step-daughters, Crystal Taylor of Florida and Lee Davies of Tennessee; two brothers, Issac Caldwell of Adel and Ossie Caldwell of West Virginia; one sister Georgia Duncan of Ohio; one granddaughter Kaitlyn Barnett and one great-granddaughter London Taylor. DAVID GENE AKERS, 76, of Huntington, was escorted by Angels to be with Jesus on Saturday, July 14, 2012. He was born September 17, 1935 in Huntington, W.Va., son of the late Ernest B. and Mamie Thelma Akers. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Ernest B. Jr., Carl Lee and wife Joan, and Jimmy Darrel and one sister, Marilynn J. Bochenek. A devoted husband for 57 years, he married Olive Annette Booth on March 11, 1955. David served his country with the National Guard. In younger years he was employed at Heiner's Bakery but more recently was self employed in the restaurant business. He had the privilege of working with his son and later his daughter at Rocky Tops Pizza. His most important job although was that of being a loving Husband, Daddy and Pa-Pa. He was a member of the Seventh Avenue Baptist Church but in recent years called First Baptist Church in Kenova his home. He was known for his jovial spirit, self-sacrificial generosity, compassion for others and love of his family. He always enjoyed outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing and golf however gardening was his favorite. In his final days he received loving and compassionate in home care from his devoted family and many kind members of the Hospice staff. David is survived by his loving wife, his daughter Jeannette Lynn Blankenship and husband Jamie, son David G. Akers II and his wife Pam. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, David Bradley Akers and wife Breanne, Zachary Gene Akers, Cassidy Jane Adkins and husband T.J., Whitney Jo Buck and husband Ryan as well as six great-grandchildren, Logan Akers, Maveric, Max, Zoey and Jazalyn Adkins, and Bronx David Buck, all of Huntington. One special cousin, Patricia Dawson, and sister-in-law, Kathleen Akers Maynard and brother-in-law, Norm Bochenek, along with five precious nieces and seventeen nephews. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Kenova on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 by the Rev. James E. Booth, David's brother-in-law and by Pastor Steve Willis. MILDRED ERLENE COPLEY ASHFORD, Huntington, W.Va., passed away July 14, 2012, at St. Mary's Medical Center. Millie was born on May 16, 1932 in Crum, W.Va., to the late Curtis Copley and Mae Conn Copley. Millie left Holden, W.Va., in 1950 to join the Air Force, which involved substantial foreign travel, and she worked at the Pentagon during the years of the Korean War. During her travels to St. John's, Newfoundland she met William F. Ashford, and after leaving the Air Force in 1954, the couple married in Texas and returned to his home in Minnesota. In the years that followed she assisted her husband in a chiropractic business and served as an accountant. She later worked for several law firms and had spent 14 years at Medtronic when she retired. In 1988, she moved back to Huntington, and spent most of her time in Logan, WV taking care of her parents when they became ill. She had a passion and love for her dogs Heidi, Ashley, Heidi 2, and especially her last, Gigi. She loved reading, Bible studies, and watching Pastor Murray. Millie was preceded in death by her two brothers, Curtis Copley Jr., of Columbus, Ohio, and William E Copley of Holden, W.Va. She leaves behind her sister and brother-in-law Dee Copley Watson and Gary Watson of Huntington; one brother Donald L. and Betty Cole Copley of Oxford, Miss.; sisters-in-law Carolyn Workman Copley of Columbus, Ohio, and Anna Harrison Copley of Holden, W.Va. BERTIE LOU McCOMAS, 73, of East Lynn, W.Va., went to be with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, July 17, 2012. She was born January 23, 1939 in Lincoln County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Cecil and Cora Patrick. Her husband, Arzel McComas also preceded her in death, along with one infant sister. JOSHUA DAVID CALDWELL, 25, of Sophia, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 17, 2012. Born September 18, 1986, in Huntington, W.Va., he was the son of Mark and Debbie Bolen of Coal City, W.Va., and David and Angie Caldwell of Kenova, W.Va. Josh attended Independence High School and Spring Valley High School; he was a coal miner and was previously employed by Massey Energy and Affinity Coal Company; he loved the outdoors; he was a competitive fisherman and a champion bow hunter. Josh was very kind-hearted and gentle, and was loved by all that knew him. Josh was a member of the Glen White Church of God. HERBERT GARRETT BAILEY II, husband of Elsie Bailey, died Friday, July 20, 2012 at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Marvin Reynolds and seven brothers and sisters. EDWARD RAY DOWDEN, 69, of Prichard, W.Va. passed away July 23, 2012 at the VA Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va. after a short illness. He was a Vietnam veteran and a member of the Community Chapel Church. Born August 7, 1942 in Chatteroy, W.Va., a son of the late Kelly and Martha Davis Dowden, he was a mechanic by trade. DAVID ANDREW PARSONS, 85 of Carroll passed away Tuesday July 24, 2012 at his residence. He was born on November 17, 1926 in Fort Gay to the late David and Della (Sexton) Parsons. David owned and operated the IGA in Pleasantville for many years. He was a member of the Shalom United Methodist Church, Pleasantville Masonic Lodge, Baltimore O.E.S., and Odd Fellows and was the Chaplain for the Rebekah’s. David volunteered for many years at the Fairfield Medical Center and was the 2006 Old Timers King in Carroll. David is survived by his wife Joy (Potts) Kosch-Parsons; children Theatta (Oral Jr.) Taylor, David (Pam) Parsons, Donald (Mary) Parsons, Dana (Brenda) Parsons, Melany (Rick) Harper, Dean (Lisa) Parsons, Joe (Ada) Parsons; step children Kenny (Margie) Kosch, Lonnie (Donna) Kosch, Tad (Sue) Kosch, Tammy (Dick) Weekley; 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; 6 step grandchildren, 7 step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents first wife Thelma (First) Parsons, grandchildren Tiffany and Matthew Parsons, and step son Laddie Kosch. Adkins; and three sisters, Blanch Morris, Edith Bennett, and Leona Cremeans. Ersie was retired from General Motors in Baltimore, Md. He leaves behind his loving wife of 55 years, Wilda Adkins; one daughter, Lana Sue Adkins of Ft. She was the widow of O.O. Perdue, and a homemaker. Mammy was born September 27, 1908, in Wayne County, WV the daughter of the late Charlie and Mary Frances Stephens Crockett. Vickers as well as a grandson, David Mark Brammer.
