GARNET HOLBROOK, 88 of Kenova, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at Beard Mortuary, Huntington, W.Va., with Pastor Patrick Elliott officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington. He was formerly employed at Houdaille Industries and the American Red Cross. Garnet was born on June 7, 1924, in Huntington, W.Va., a son of the late Lacey and Anna Bishop Holbrook. Garnet is preceded in death by two sons, Gary Lee and Ronald William Holbrook. He was a member of the Spring Valley Freedom Baptist Church for 15 years and was a former Deacon. Garnet loved his church family very much. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Irene Webb Holbrook; four daughters, Linda Piccirillo of Huntington, Temia Gail Shanks of Huntington, Patsy Gruenenfelder of Dallas, Texas, and Sandy Wilson of Dayton, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. SHIRLEY ANN THOMPSON, 71, of Genoa, WV, went to be with the Lord Monday, January 1, 2013 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted 2:00 pm Friday, January 4, 2012 at Morris Funeral Home Chapel by Brothers Tommy Kitts and Charlie Marcum. Burial followed at Young-Thompson Cemetery, Genoa, WV. She was born September 23, 1941 in Wooster, OH, a daughter of the late Herman and Erma Snyder Young. Shirley was a homemaker who loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was a very giving and loving woman who loved her family unconditionally. Her husband, Pearly Thompson also preceded her in death. EMMA JEAN ADKINS, 84, of Culloden, W.Va., passed away Jan. 1, 2013. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at the Wallace Funeral Home, Milton, by Rev. Tom Wiley. Burial will follow in Morrison Cemetery. She was born August 3, 1928, in Wayne County, a daughter of the late Jennings McSweeney and Marie Ferguson McSweeney Auer. She is survived by her loving husband, Homer L. Adkins Sr.; one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Darell Watts; two sons and daughters-in-law, Homer L Adkins Jr., and his wife Terri L., and Mark Adkins and his wife Lesa, all of Culloden; and four grandchildren, Matthew Watts and his son Chase Watts, Steven Watts and his wife Denae, all of Mansfield, Ohio, Edee Lynn Adkins of Hurricane, W.Va., and Kevin Adkins, of Culloden. DORA RAMEY QUEEN, 86, of Lavalette, W.Va., went to be with the Lord Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, W.Va. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, W.Va., by Elders Tony Clay, Tommy Damron, Roger Maynard, Orville Damron, and John son Queen. Burial will follow at Community Memorial Gardens, Wayne. She was born March 3, 1926, at Cove Gap, W.Va., a daughter of the late Josh and Lizzie Wiley Ramey. She was a homemaker and was the last charter member of the Echo United Baptist Church since 1959. She always enjoyed the fellowship with her church family. Dora was also a member of Wayne Chapter 156, Order of Eastern Star. Her husband of 63 years, Rev. Nolan Queen, and two brothers, Alex Ramey and Richard Burl Ramey, also preceded her in death. Survivors include her daughter, Liz Whitt of Lavalette, W.Va.; four sons, Richard "Dick" Queen of Lavalette, W.Va., with whom she made her home, Howard Queen of Kiahsville, W.Va., Ira Queen and wife Sharon of Culloden, W.Va., and Paul Queen of Lavalette, W.Va.; four sisters, Frankie Queen and Alice Verbage of Lavalette, W.Va., Fay Osburn of Huntington, W.Va., and Caroline Pratt of Alabama; three brothers, Rufus Ramey of Kentucky, Kiah Ramey of Florida and Lanny Ramey of Huntington, W.Va.; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren. TOM CRUTE, 85, of Croton on Hudson, N.Y., formerly of Huntington, W.Va., and Beech Fork, W.Va., was born on Dec. 24, 1927, and passed away on Jan. 2, 2013. Tom was the son of the late Thomas Leonidas Crute and Nettie May Ellis Crute, the son-in-law of the late Elmer and Mae Tabor and widower of Jean Tabor Crute who died in July 1995. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5, 2013, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne. Burial will follow at Community Memorial Gardens, Wayne, W.Va., with the American Legion Post #93 conducting military graveside rites. Tom was an Ombudsman for the Veterans Administration Hospital and a World War II veteran of the United States Navy. He was a member of the Huntington Lions Club for many years. He was also preceded in death by an infant son, Thomas Crute Jr. He is survived by his children, Dr. Kathleen Mae Crute, of East Lynn, W.Va., Dr. Denise Elaine Crute of Briarcliff Manor, N.Y., and Sean Kevin Crute of Durham, N.C.; his son-in-law, Michael James Keefe of Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.; and his grandsons, Aidan Thomas Keefe and Liam James Keefe of Briarcliff Manor, N.Y. GENE WEBSTER KESSINGER, 74 of Genoa, WV, formerly of San Jacinto, CA died Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at the Hospice House of Huntington after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born February 27, 1938 in Beckley, WV a son of Elwood and Myrtle Riggs Kessinger. Gene was a retired truck driver and was a loving son, brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His wife and mother of his six children, Pearl Patricia Nailard Kessinger also preceded him in death. Survivors include four daughters Janine Kessinger Ritchie of Florida, Laura Kessinger Flores and husband, Wellinton of Santa Rosa, Florida, Fawn Kessinger Bishop and husband, Watson of Palmdale, CA, Patricia Gale Kessinger Bartram and Robert "Bob" Golden Bartram of Genoa, WV; two sons, Gene Webster Kessinger, Jr. of San Jacinto, CA, Jeffrey Jerome Kessinger and wife, Teree of El Reno, OK; two sisters, Dorothy "Dottie" Kessinger McElwee and Ted Brooks, Treva Kessinger Antoniadas and husband, Jim of San Jacinto, CA; a brother, Charles "Lenny" Kessinger and wife, Elsie Louise Kessinger of Suisun City, CA; sixteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren and a host of cousins and friends. A special thanks to Donna Ball and Carol Riggs Wallace for helping care for him while he was ill and Sister Monica Shubbert for volunteering through Hospice. BETTY LEE STAFFORD, 82, of Wayne, W.Va., passed away Jan. 3, 2013, after a long illness. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church in Wayne, W.Va., by Father Julian Marneni. Burial will follow at Forest Memorial Park, Milton, W.Va. She was born Sept. 15, 1930, in Huntington, W.Va., a daughter of the late Noah and Florence Chaney Holley. Betty was a retired secretary. Survivors include her family, Melinda Holley, Diane Holley, Tammy and Tim Frye, Joseph DeHart, Anthony DeHart, Paul DeHart, Lauren Jack, Terri and Tim Blatt, Amanda, Drew, Aiden and Benjamin McDaniel, Ainslie and Michael Stanley, Kylie Wright, Garrett Blatt, Toni and Andrew Santoleri, Molly and Chris Rogers, Adam, Kersten and Midna and Amber Santoleri, Hollie Santoleri and Lexi Santoleri. LARRY H. McSWEENEY, age 83, arrived in heaven at 3:10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013. He was born May 5, 1929, in Wayne, W.Va., a son of the late Pearlie and Mary McSweeney. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Jo Kirk McSweeney; also preceding him a brother, Wesley McSweeney; four sisters, Janie McClellan, Marie Thompson, Ethel Brammer and Violet Marshall; and a great-grandson, Jacob Thacker. He is survived by his wife, Maria McSweeney, and his children, Joe (Patsy) McSweeney of South Point, Ohio, Sandra Blackburn of South Point, Ohio, Lisa McSweeney of Proctorville, Ohio, and Scott McSweeney of Huntington, W.Va.; his grandchildren, Melissa (Stewart) Musick, Stacey (Jon) Thacker, Dwayne McSweeney and Chloe Wilcox; four great-grandchildren, Ashley (Wes) Rhoden, Emily Musick, Alley Musick and Wyatt Thacker; two step-great-grandchildren, Rilie and Kelsey Rhoden; and two brothers, Jim (Fannie) McSweeney of South Point, Ohio, and Ed (Mary) McSweeney of Merryville, La. Larry served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Masonic lodge #0781 F&AM in Cleveland, Ohio, and he was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason Valley of Cincinnati. He worked for Island Creek Coal Company in Delbarton, W.Va., until he relocated his family to South Point, Ohio, in 1963. In February 1967, he opened up a small machine shop on his farm in South Point and became his own boss, which was his goal in life. After 47 years of hard work and sacrifice, McSweeney's Inc. is a thriving business and he has touched the lives of many people in the community. He will be sadly missed by family and friends. JAMES ROBERT "JIM BOB" HARDWICK, 87, of Fort Gay, W.Va. passed away Friday, January 4, 2013 at his home. He was born August 14, 1925 in Fort Gay, W.Va. a son of the late Ed and Francis Crum Hardwick. He was a retired foreman for Inco Alloys, he was a United States Amry Veteran, he was a member for 64 years of the Vinson Lodge #66 and was a past Master, he was a 33 degree of the Ancient and Accepted of the Scottish Rite in the Valley of Huntington, member of El Hasa Shriners of Ashland, Ky, Order of Eastern Star Chapter # 160, past member Board of Directors of Wayne Co. Solid Waste, Past member of Fort Gay Lions Club, Member of the Fort Gay Baptist Church. Survivors include his loving wife of 45 years, Ruby Osborne Hardwick of Fort Gay, W.Va.; one daughter, Gertie Francis Friend of PA.; two grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted 1:00 PM Tuesday at Young Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ric Frazier officiating. Burial followed at Greenlawn Cemetery, Louisa. Visitation was 6:00 til 9:00 PM Monday at Young Funeral Home Chapel.
DUARD WALLACE BELLOMY, 96, died Jan. 4, 2013, of natural causes. He was born in Hubbardstown, West Virginia, and was preceded in death by parents, David and Nannie Bellomy; sisters, Nettie Stephenson and Floa Bell Carey; and brother, Homer Bellomy. He moved to Lakeland, Fla., in 1965 and was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church since moving to Lakeland in 1965. Mr. Bellomy retired from Owens-Illinois Glass Company on May 30, 1978, after 37 years. He did the books for Huntington Hills Golf Club. He loved to bowl, golf, and play cards with family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 76 years, Pauline Bellomy; daughter, Susan Bellomy; niece, Lucy Dorsey, nephew, David (Debbie) Bellomy; grand-nephews, Tom (Debbie), Fred (Kim), Randy and Johnny Paul Dorsey; grand-nieces, Gail (Bill) Banks, Lisa (William) Diamond, and Joella (Charles) Hanlon; and several other nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held at Lakeside Baptist Church on Jan. 10, 2013, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lakeside Baptist Church, Senior Adults, 1736 New Jersey Rd. Lakeland, FL 33803. Interment was at Woodmere Memorial Park. Reger Funeral Home is assisting the family.
FARRIS RITCHIE, JR., age 87, beloved husband of Wayne County native, Mildred Tabor Ramey Ritchie, passed away January 5, 2013 in Daytona Beach, FL. where he and Mildred resided. He was born in Hindman, KY and moved to Florida in 1986 from Ypsilanti, MI. He was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean Conflict and retired after 20 years of service with the U.S. Army. Survivors include his wife of 25 years Mildred and a sister Janice Hagen. Farris was interred in Ypsilanti. Dale Woodward Funeral Home, Holly Hill, FL was in charge. TIMOTHY McCOY, 57, of Kenova, W.Va., passed away Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, in Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at the Kenova Church of God with Pastor J. Rabun Haddock officiating. Burial to follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, Ceredo, W.Va. Tim was born August 5, 1955, in Pikeville, Ky., a son of the late Harrison and Ruth Kendrick McCoy. Tim was kind and generous with his time, as he spent countless hours helping to keep Kenova a cleaner town. Survivors include four daughters and a son-in-law, Michelle McCoy of Kenova, Ruthie Jean McCoy of Kenova, Mary McCoy of South Point, Ohio, and Deborah Ferguson (Brad) of Kenova; two brothers, Harold McCoy of Jackson, Ohio, and Harrison "Junior" McCoy of Kenova; five sisters, Dorothy Howell of Kansas City, Missouri, Patty Hutchinson of Prichard, W.Va., Linda Bryant of Feds Creek, Ky., Maggie McCoy of Ceredo, W.Va., and Christy McCoy of Huntington, W.Va.; and 11 grandchildren, William, Cory, Cameron, Dylan, Erica, Drake, Donovan, Carrie, Alyssa, Bradley and Hayley. MITCHELL LEE VANCE, 56, of Harts, W.Va., went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, January 6, 2013, at Cabell Huntington Hospital after a long journey of battling an ongoing illness here on this earth. Mitchell was born October 9, 1956, in Holden, to the late Ernest Vance Jr., and Betty Blankenship Vance. Mitchell was a wonderful and compassionate member of this community and there is not a kinder soul anyone could have had the opportunity to meet. Mitchell was a retired employee with CSX transportation where he built long lasting friendships and cherished those he worked with. Mitchell loved his football and it was always a joy to hear him shout, "Let's Go Mountaineers!" Mitchell loved his church family. He belonged to East Fork Freewill Baptist Church in Ranger. He was a wonderful loving husband, father, brother, papaw, uncle, and friend! Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Sybil Kelley Vance of Harts; two sons, Mitchell Lee Vance II, Rev. Anthony Vance, both of Harts; daughter Angel Vance of Harts; two brothers, Rev. Ernest Ray (Linda) Vance of Branchland and Rodney (Jeanne) Vance of Ranger; grandson Conner Higginbotham; granddaughter Shelby Vance and a host of nieces and nephews and other loved ones who thought the world of him. ROY FRANKLIN SHAFFER, 73, of Huntington, WV, passed away Sunday, January 6, 2013 at his residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, WV, with Brother Ray Williamson officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery at Wayne. He was born September 13, 1939 in Kanawha County, WV, a son of the late Howard Franklin and Ruth Hatfield Shaffer. Roy was a retired welder for ACF Industries and was a member of the Faith Freewill Baptist Church of Lavalette. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and member of American Legion Post 93 of Kenova. Roy also was a volunteer at the Huntington VA Medical Center. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Stacy Marie Shaffer. Survivors include his wife, Emma Adkins Shaffer; a son, Terry Wayne Shaffer (Valerie) of Orlando, FL; a sister, Mary Sue Hatcher (Earl) of Roanoke, VA; and two grandchildren, Shianna Shaffer of Louisville, KY and Matthew Shaffer of Orlando, FL. STEVEN ABNER THOMPSON, 43, of Fort Gay, W.Va. passed away Sunday, January 6, 2012 at his home. He was born August 24, 1969 in Louisa, Ky. a son of Wilma Florene Thompson and the late Lawrence Thompson. He attended New Life Outreach Church. Survivors include, mother, Florence Wilma Thompson of Fort Gay, W.Va.; one son, Terrence Shawn Thompson of Fallsburg, Ky.; one daughter, Madison Rachelle Thompson of Ashland, Ky.; one sister, Wilma (Tim) Cook of Fort Gay, W.Va.; two brothers, Michael Thompson of Oak Ridge, N.C.; Mark (Luann) Thompson of Louisa, Ky. RUBY E. SCHEID, 85, of Huntington, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 7, 2013. She was born August 20, 1927 in Huntington, a daughter of the late Henry and Lorraina Fortner. Three sisters, Juanita, Ethel, and Opal, also preceded her in death. She leaves behind one daughter, Cheryl Martin of Huntington; two sons, Kenneth Rowsey and his wife Tony of Huntington, and David A. Scheid of Coyle, Ok. Also surviving is one sister, Irene Riddle; one brother, Harold Fortner and his wife Debbie; and a special friend, George Bryan, all of Huntington Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, January 11, 2012 at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home. GWINN L. AKERS, 77, of Kenova, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord and his beloved wife, Edith Adkins Akers, on Monday, January 7, 2013, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Reger Funeral Chapel by Rev. Dale Maddy. Burial will follow in Docks Creek Cemetery, Kenova, W.Va. He was born May 5, 1935, in Wayne County, W.Va., a son of the late Leonard Akers and Blanche Fortner Tolbert. He was a truck driver and an employee of Unijax. Gwinn was a veteran of the U.S. Army. In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by his step-father John W. Tolbert. Survivors include a son Timothy Gwinn Akers; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Debbie and Larry Hutchison, Gwendolyn Graham, Delores Scarberry and Reyna and Dale Maynard; two step-daughters and spouses, Gloria and Jimmy McCoy and Georgia and Mike Lawhon; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law Delores and Don Salyers and his cat "Frosty." The family would like to thank the staff of the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington for their care and support. ALLIE LEE MILLER, born March 28, 1936. Passed away January 7, 2013, at the age of 76-years 9-months and 10-days old. She was the daughter of the late Milton and Drusilla Watts Vance and was also preceded in death by her husband Hobert Miller, two grandsons Joshua Wayne Miller and David James Miller. She was a member of Four Mile United Baptist Church and was a homemaker. Allie is survived by three sons, Faron (Kathy) Miller of East Lynn, W.Va., Danny (Bonnie) Miller of Salt Rock, W.Va., and Jesse (Kelly) Miller of Sweetland, W.Va.; three daughters, Cammie (Rodney) Courts of Hamlin, W.Va., Pam (Steve) Mills of Salt Rock, W.Va., and Julie Miller (George) of Tazwell, Va.; four brothers, Bill Vance of Harts, W.Va., Fisher (Nina) Vance of Branchland, W.Va., Watt Vance of Branchland, W.Va., and John Vance of Hamlin, W.Va.; three sisters, Helen Meade of Harts, W.Va., Lilly Miller of Branchland, W.Va., and Julia Kay Hicks of Harts, W.Va.; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. RUBY RAMEY, 95, of Fort Gay, W.Va. passed away Monday, January 7, 2013 at Samaritan Hospital in Ashland, Ohio. She was born July 7, 1917 in Fort Gay, W.Va. a daughter of the late Thomas and Emma Wilson Copley. She was a housewife. In addition to her parents he was preceded in death by her husband Charlie Ramey. Survivors include one daughter, Florene of Columbus, Ohio; one son Charles E. She cherished the loving relationship that they maintained with her throughout her life. WILLIAM ROY "PUTTER" McKEAND, 76, of Huntington departed this life on Jan. 8, 2013, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. He was born in Ceredo, W.Va., on Feb. 19, 1936, and was the son of the late Henry G. and Ophelia Keyser Mckeand. He graduated from Buffalo High School in 1954 and was retired from ACF Industries. Putter was also a Church of Christ minister. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norva Wallace Trautwein McKeand, in 2005. Four brothers, Ronnie in 1990, Danny in 1994, John in 1996, and Jake in 2006. He is survived by two brothers, Robert (Donna) McKeand of Huntington and Ralph McKeand of Wayne County; and one sister, Sallie (James) Robinette of Huntington, W.Va. Also surviving is one stepson, Sam Trautwein of Wayne, W.Va.; four sisters-in-law, Donna King, Maxine McKeand, June Davis and Sandra McKeand; two step-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. RICHARD MELVIN BOOTH, 73, of Kenova, W.Va., passed away at home on Jan. 16. Richard served in the U.S. Air Force before beginning his education at Marshall University. He began his career as a professor of Geography and taught at various schools including Marshall University, University of Kentucky and Bemidji State University. Richard later became a member of the Plumber and Steamfitters Union Local 521 and worked for Henderson Plumbing until retirement. He was a lifelong member of the Guyandotte Masonic Lodge. He spent many happy hours creating a legacy for his family through his oil paintings as his father, Melvin Booth, did years ago. He also enjoyed passing on the history of our area as a guide at the Heritage Farm. Richard is remembered by his wife of 28 years, Patty. He is also remembered by daughter, Lisa LaFon and husband Larry; son, Adam Booth and wife Krista; stepdaughter, Lisa Tackett and husband Doug; stepson, Rocky Crouch and wife Shelly; and one brother, David Booth. GERALDINE BIAS SHEPPARD, 81, of East Lynn, W.Va., was welcomed into the arms of the Lord on Jan. 17, 2013, after a long illness in her home. She was born Sept. 27, 1931, in Lincoln County, a daughter of the late Walter and Anna McCallister Bias. She was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters. Geraldine graduated from Hamlin High School in 1949. She is survived by three daughters, Sharon Johnson Fuller, Robbin Renee Johnson Manuel of Clifton Park, N.Y., and her husband James; and two granddaughters, Madison Renee Manuel and Kathryn Nicole Manuel, and Mitzi Johnson, her loving, dedicated caregiver of East Lynn, W.Va.; and grandson, J. R. Johnson of Clearwater, Fla. She will be greatly missed by her only surviving sibling, Vermal J. Bias, and his wife Delores J. Carter Bias of Ona, and their three children. Before her illness, she thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and working on her yard. She was Baptist by faith and sang in local gospel groups for years, including the Gospel Tide and Family of Prayer. She was preceded in death by her first husband and the father of her children, Kyle Wyrick; and by her second husband, Mark Thompson; one brother, James Abbott; and two grandsons, Eric Wyrick and Donald Miles. EUGENE LEE WELLMAN, 85, of Huntington, W.Va., reunited with his beloved wife of 64 years, Betty, in Heaven after passing away Sunday, January 20, 2013, at St. Mary's Medical Center. Gene is survived by his daughter, Linda (Gene) Smith of Huntington; two sons, David Wellman of Huntington and Chuck (Lori) Wellman of Milton; two sisters, Phyllis Pierce of Huntington and Delores Nichols of Bristol, Connecticut; and one brother, Joe Freeman of Franklin Furnace, Ohio.; three granddaughters, Kacey (Ben) Johnson of Wayne, and Jordan Hancock and Kara Hancock of Milton; three grandsons, Nick Wellman and Drew Wellman of Ceredo, and Dylan Wellman of Milton; one great-granddaughter, Emma Grace Wellman of Ceredo; and two great-grandsons, Lincoln Johnson and Maximus Johnson of Wayne. Gene was born November 19th, 1927, and raised in the Big Hurricane area before moving to Huntington as a teenager. He loved writing songs, a hobby he maintained from his teenage years to his final days on this earth. He was a kind man who loved his family and his church, and was rarely seen without a smile on his face. On the dreariest of days Gene could often be heard singing, "It's such a pretty world today, look at the sunshine." He wrote more than 1,000 songs over the decades, including "The Little White Church," "Holy Life Insurance," "Fried Potatoes," "Please Throw Away the Glass," and "Big Blue Eyes," to name a few. He was so proud of those tunes, and his family was so proud of him for writing them. Gene was a devout Christian, faithfully serving at Tucker Memorial Baptist Church in Huntington and at First Baptist Church in Ceredo of which he was a member when he passed away. He worked many years and many long hours delivering bread throughout the region for Heiner's Bakery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to service time on Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Ceredo. JAMES EDMOND "EDDIE" DYER, 22, of Ironton, Ohio, passed away Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington, Ky., after battling cancer. He was born June 30, 1990, in Huntington, W.Va., to James and Darlene Dyer. He attended England Hill Free Will Baptist Church, Campbell Chapel Free Will Baptist Church and Sunshine Free Will Baptist church regularly. He graduated from South Point High School where he lettered in football and obtained a certification as heavy equipment operator. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Russell and Gladys May; his paternal grandfather, Fred Dyer; an uncle, Arnie May; and a cousin, Miles Paxton. He is survived by his wife, Debra Barney Dyer; two sisters and brother-in-law, Amanda and Andrew McCormick of Catlettsburg, Ky., and Alexis Dyer of South Point, Ohio; three nephews, James Creighton Dyer, Richard Kelley Jr., and Michael Kelley; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Emory and Cindy Barney of Ironton, Ohio; grandmother and grandfather, Betty and Bill Morris; a special aunt, Florence May; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Eddie is also survived by two of his best friends, Shane and Shawn Freize since childhood. He enjoyed many special times with Shane and Shawn and enjoyed their company. During his battle with cancer, he stayed at the Hope Lodge in Lexington, Ky., where he met and befriended many. Also, during his battle with cancer he doctored with an amazing doctor, Dr. Dennie Jones at UK Markey Cancer Center. Eddie stayed strong throughout his battle with cancer and had a positive outlook on life through his Savior, Jesus Christ. Eddie knew through his faith in the Lord that he was a winner either way whether he went or whether he stayed. MR. DANA T. NAPIER SR., 78, of Switzer, departed this life Wednesday, January 30, 2013, in Mingo County. Born June 28, 1934, at Maysburg, he was a son of the late Charles Henry and Vada Mae Browning Napier. Also preceding him in death was his brother, Hascal Ray Napier; sister, Audrey Harrison, and grandson, Brad Bowens. He was also a member of the Aracoma Lodge No. 99 at Logan, a 32nd Degree KCCH Scottish Rite Mason, member of the Beni Kedem Shrine Temple at Charleston, 50 year member, and York Rite. Mr. Napier was a Federal Mine Inspector, was the General Superintendent of Wolf Creek Colliers and served in the National Guard. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Betty Hunter Napier; children, Tammie (Terry) Bowens of Waynesboro, Va., and Dana T. "Scott" (Margaret) Napier of Riverview, Fla.; grandchildren, Jennifer (Justin) Bates of Morrow, Ohio, and Michelle (P.D.) ONA ADAMS ROSS, 79, of Huntington, WV, formerly of Genoa, WV went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 1, 2013 at Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Phillip Warren and Pastor Hurston Webb officiating. Burial followed at Community Memorial Gardens, Wayne, WV. Ona was born on August 3, 1933 in Wayne County, WV to the late Jeff Adams and Cora Kelly Adams. She was a homemaker and a member of Prince of Peace Church in Huntington, WV. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Emmitt Ross, three sisters Lillian Williamson, Eileen Ball and Norma Rowe, brother Billy Adams and granddaughter Sandra Ramey. Surviving are her three daughters, Kathie Ferguson (Ron), Patty Ross, and Cora Mead (Dale) all of Huntington, WV, two sons Jeff Ross (Darlene) of Johnstown, Ohio, and Emmitt Larry Ross (Deidre) of Genoa, WV, 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 3 great- great grandchildren. With special mention, her extended family, four grandchildren and their spouses, 10 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and all of the other children that have adopted her in their lives. LOIS JUNE WHITE, 81, of Kenova, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House on Jan. 30, 2013. She was born on May 3, 1931, a daughter of Charles Ferguson and Madge Brumfield Ferguson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Okie Carroll White; and her sisters, Henrietta Smith and Charline Ferguson. She is survived by her nephew, C.W. McCormick (Jacqueline); grand-niece, Cheryl Blevins, (Buster) and grand-nephew, David McCormick. Also surviving are her great- grand-nieces, Andrea May and Amanda McClure (Jason); and great- grand-nephew, Jordan Blevins (Samantha); her great-great- grand-nieces, Caitlyn Porter, Josilyn May and Madison McClure; and her great- great- grand-nephew, Matthew McClure; and a special family friend, Frank Gennett. Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at Ebenezer Baptist Church on Route 75 in Kenova with Pastor Mark Booth officiating.
