ANNA MARIE
WALKER, 90, of
Elyria, Ohio, a former resident of Kenova, W.Va., passed away on Feb. 1,
2013, at the New Life of St. Joseph's Hospice Center. She was born July 20,
1922, to Andrew and Rachel Wellman Marcum. She was a longtime member of the
Oakview Missionary Baptist Church in Kenova. She was preceded in death by
her husband, Roy Walker; four sisters and one brother, her daughter,
Elizabeth Walker Holtz, and her son Roy Frank Walker; and her beloved
son-in-law, Robert Holtz Sr., and grandson Robert Holtz Jr. She leaves
behind one sister, Jean Gallaspie of Hurricane, W.Va.; six grandchildren;
seven great-grandchildren; and five great- great-grandchildren, with one
more precious great- great-grandchild on the way. Funeral services will be
at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at the Oakview Missionary Baptist Church on
Barger Hill with Brother Derl Everman officiating. Burial will follow at
Dock's Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon at the

ETHEL PAULINE
THOMPSON, 90,
of Huntington passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at River's
Bend Nursing Center. She was born on Oct. 19, 1922, in Wayne County, W.Va.,
daughter of the late Clarence Victor Bailey and Blanche Fischbach Bailey.
Pauline was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Milton, and
brothers Clarence Clifford "Mike" Bailey, Earl Bailey and John Bailey. She
is survived by sisters, Eleanor Roach and husband Gene and Susan Parsons;
and a brother, Larry Bailey. She graduated from Wayne High School and
immediately started working and did so until she retired from JC Penney at
the age of 75. She was an active member and librarian at Grassy Valley
Baptist Church in Knoxville, Tenn. Upon returning to Huntington, she became
a member of Bethel Temple Church. Pauline was a lifelong Baptist that loved
to talk about the teachings in the Bible. She started actively living a
healthy lifestyle at a young age and versing others on the importance of
taking vitamins and healthy eating. Her energy and love of life gave her the
nickname "Cricket." She will be sadly missed by all that had the pleasure of
knowing her. A heart-felt thank you is extended to Midland Meadows Assisted
Living and River's Bend Nursing Center for the loving care given to her. In
lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Huntington.
Minister Hubert Harvey will perform a memorial service at Chapman's Mortuary
on Thursday, Feb. 7 at 4 p.m. She will be buried in Knoxville, Tenn., at
Eastern Tennessee Veterans Cemetery with her husband Milton. Online

31, of Lavalette, W.Va., passed away Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013. Funeral Liturgy
will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, at Sacred Heart Catholic
Church, Huntington, by Father Levinus Uba. Burial will follow in Dock's
Creek Cemetery, Kenova, W.Va. Marife was born Jan. 4, 1982, in Antara
Libungan North Cotabato, Philippines, a daughter of Guadencio and Macaria
Larangjo. She was a production technician at Alcon Industries and attended
St. Paul College in the Philippines and MCTC. She is also survived by her
husband Cecil T. Travis; her son, Thomas Lorenzo Larangjo Travis; two
stepdaughters, Ashley and Alyshia; her grandmother, Conchita Mistoso; six
brothers, Albert, Rolando, Jennifer, Gaudencio Jr., Warlito and Julito; four
sisters, Marilou, Merry Ann, Melanie and Marie Cris; father-in-law and
mother-in-law, Cecil and Polly Travis; one brother-in-law, James W.
(Jennifer) Travis; three sisters-in-law, Susan (Gary) Arthur, Cathy Sperry,
Karen (Larry) Workman; five aunts and five uncles including a very special
aunt, Sister Orlina Mistoso; and hosts of nieces, nephews, cousins and lots
of friends. She touched many lives. She was loved by everyone who knew her;

EARL E. NEWMAN,
86, of Prichard, W.Va., went home to be with his Lord and Savior on February
2, 2013. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, February
6, 2013, at the Reger Funeral Chapel by Pastor Jerry Workman; burial will
follow at the Cloice Hatten Cemetery, Prichard, W.Va. He was born on May 31,
1926, a son of the late Clovis and Della Alley Newman. In addition to his
parents he was preceded in death by brothers Lowell and Jack Newman and
sister Velma McGhee. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Frankie
Pauline Newman; one son and daughter-in-law Dan and Janice Newman of
Prichard; a daughter and son-in-law Joyce and Larry Keith of Kenova, W.Va.;
grandchildren Jason and Brianna Newman, Chad (JeAnnie) Keith and Derek (Nicki)
Keith; great-grandchildren Shelby, Jacob, Madison and Molly Keith; a brother
and sister-in-law Bill and Jean Newman and several nieces and nephews. Earl
was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. He retired from The
Herald-Dispatch with 32 years of service. He was a graduate of Buffalo High
School and a lifelong member and deacon of the Upper Gragston Baptist
Church. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at

GRAHAM, 83, of
Lavalette, W.Va., passed away on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at the Heritage
Center of Huntington, W.Va. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday,
Feb. 7, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the Reger Funeral Chapel by Chaplin William
Graham. Burial will follow at Spring Valley Memory Gardens. Clovus was born
on Aug. 21, 1929, in Huntington, W.Va., the son of the late Hughie and Rose
Blankenship Graham. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by
his wife, Edna Graham; and two brothers and sisters, Eugene and John Graham,
Layuna Blankenship and Dorma Lee Roe. Clovus was a retired carpenter and a
veteran of the U.S. Army. He is survived by his two sons and
daughter-in-law, Richard Graham of North Carolina and Chaplin William Graham
and Robyn of Ft. Campbell, Ky.; two daughters and son-in-law, Cynthia Howard
and Luetta McCallister all of Huntington; eight grandchildren, Patrick,

EVELYN ALTA
ANN ROSS, 74,
of Huntington, W.Va., wife of Donald A. Ross, passed away Sunday, February
3, 2013, in St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted at
noon Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at Chapman's Mortuary with Pastor John
Duffy officiating. Burial will be in Spurlock Cemetery, Wayne, W.Va. Evelyn
was born September 16, 1938, in Wayne County, W.Va., a daughter of the late
George H. and Alta Belle Taylor Chatterton. In addition to her parents, she
had two brothers, Gordon Chatterton and David Chatterton, and a
sister-in-law Deloris Chatterton precede her in death. She graduated from
Buffalo High School, retired from Kerr Glass, and was a member of Ladies
Auxiliary VFW Post 9738 and American Legion Post 177. In addition to her
husband, survivors include a daughter and son-in-law Tonya and Nate Anderson
of Barboursville, W.Va.; a son Dwayne Ross of Huntington; two grandchildren,
Jordon Ross and Madalyn Cooper; and two brothers, Fred Chatterton of

WILLIAM HOWARD
CARVER, 84, of
Ceredo passed away Feb. 4, 2013, at his home. He was born April 7, 1928, in
Ceredo, W.Va., to Alva and Josephine Jarrell Carver. He served his country
in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Upon his return, he joined the
National Guard at Spring Valley. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary
Elizabeth Carver, and his son, Jimmy L. Carver; two sisters, Maxine Akers
and Bertha Pyles; and one brother, Vernon Carver. He leaves behind one
daughter, Ramona (David) Mullet of Charlotte, N.C.; one granddaughter,
Christina Madden; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral
services will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, at Ceredo-Kenova Funeral
Home, with Pastor Larry Mullins officiating. Burial will follow at Dock's

SADIE COPLEY
ACCORD MARTIN,
94, of Huntington, W.Va., went to be with the Lord Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at
Wayne Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be conducted
11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, 2013, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel by Elder Leo
Maynard and Brother Buster Maynard. Burial will follow at White Chapel
Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, W.Va. She was born Oct. 1, 1918, in Dunlow,
W.Va., a daughter of the late Wayne Copley and Fairabelle Maynard Copley.
Sadie was a retired nurse's aide for Fairhaven Rest Home and a member of
Echo United Baptist Church. She was faithful, kind and helpful to all who
needed her and took especially good care of her parents. She was preceded in
death by her first husband, Donald Accord, and her second husband, William
Martin, along with two sisters, Marie Copley and Doris Jean Walden Blevins,
and two brothers, Lawrence and William "Bill" Copley. Survivors include
three sisters, Wilda Mae Copley Walden of Huntington, Rosalee Copley Maynard
of Dunlow and Delsie Copley Auxier Maynard of Huntington, with whom she made
her home the last 30 years; a special niece, Sandra Kay Maynard whom she
loved as her own daughter; and a host of additional nieces and nephews.

W.Va. Sadie was loved by all who knew her and will be sadly missed. Special

WOODROW PERRY,
84, of Salt Petre Road Fort Gay, WV went to be with his Lord on Tuesday Feb.
5, 2013. Woodrow was born April 25, 1928 at Wilsondale, WV the son of the
late James and Jannievee Jude Perry. He was a retired Wayne County School
Teacher with 35 years service, a member of the Salt Petre Church, and a
United States Navy Veteran and a member of the Crum Masonic Lodge F&AM 132.
Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years Mary Maynard Perry; three sons
Woodrow Jr. and wife Colleen of Maple, NC, Elias and wife Shelby of Fort
Gay, WV, and Norman Michael and wife Dianne of Dunlow, WV; seven
grandchildren Sherry (Brian) Houseknecht, Gregory Perry, Deborah Perry,
Elias Jr. (Vickie), Jeremy (Kristina) Perry,, Michael Shane Perry, and Mary
Megan Perry; seven great grandchildren Morgan, Ayden, Caitlyn, Rylan, Jeremy
Jr., Breanna, and Hayden; two brothers James Perry of Fort Gay, WV and
Verland Perry of Kenova, WV and one sister Hazel Vincent of New York. He is
preceded in death by six brothers Clearance, Glenn, Clyde, Curtiss, Raymond,
and William Harrison Perry. Funeral services were conducted on Friday Feb.

WELLMAN, 89, of
Fort Gay, W.Va. passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at her home. She was
born February 10, 1923 in Fort Gay, a daughter of the late Floyd and
Josephine Hurley Wellman. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Tabors
Creek Missionary Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded
in death by her husband Kenneth Wellman whom passed away in 2005. Survivors
include her children, K. D. (Joan) Wellman of South Point, Ohio; Rhonna
(Gabe) Blatt of Huntington, W.Va.; Fred Wellman of Fort Gay, W.Va.;
Brothers, Franklin D. Wellman of Manchester, MI.; Chuck Wellman of Houston,
TX.; Sisters, Anna Faye Hayes of Deborn, MI.; Gladys Lela Crabtree of
Summerset, Ky.; Grandson, Shawn (Rachael) Wellman of South Point, Ohio; Two

JAMES ROY
MANIS passed
away on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral
services will be conducted on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the Reger
Funeral Chapel by Rev. David Lemming. Burial will follow at Woodmere
Memorial Park. James was a retired Locomotive Engineer with the CSX Railroad
and a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Vietnam War. He was a
member of BLET Local 190, Life member of DAV and VFW Post 1064 and a
graduate of Vinson High School. James was born on Sept. 30, 1947, in Cabell
County, W.Va., the son of the late Roy James and Welthie Marie Evans Manis.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Ronnie
Lee Manis; brother-in-law, Roger Ball; and father-in-law, James A. Anderson.
James is survived by his wife, Jeannie Manis; two daughters and sons-in-law,
Angel and Brian Curry and Robyn and Chris Camden, all of Huntington; three
sisters and brothers-in-law, Shelia and Larry Kyle of Huntington, Donnie
Ball of Lavalette, W.Va., and Connie and Steve Schumacher of Westerville,

WALTER SHERRIL
STOWERS, 81, of
Gallipolis, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at the Hospice Room at
Holzer Hospital after a brief battle with liver cancer. Walter was born
Sept. 23, 1931, in Westmoreland, W.Va. He was the youngest son of the late
Watson "Watt" and Bessie Stapleton Stowers. Walter is survived by his wife,
Bernice (Fellure) Stowers, whom he married June 23, 1963, at First Baptist
Church of Gallipolis and his two children, Cheryl Stowers of Ladson, S.C.,
and Kevin (Kathy) Stowers of Crestline, Ohio, and a step-grandson, Tyler
(Jessica) Burkhart of Bowling Green, Ohio. Walter is also survived by a
brother, Wilson "Blackie" Stowers, and a sister, Mary Faye (Stowers) Fuller,
and the following in-laws: Florence (Fellure) Sheets, Dorothy (Fellure)
Perkins, Noah Houck, Harry (Mary) Fellure, Lillia (Wendell) Haner, Russell
(Judy) Fellure and numerous nieces and nephews from both sides of his
family. Walter was preceded in death by four brothers, one sister, four
sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law: Charles Stowers, Marion (Rosalee)
Stowers, Bernard (Camille) Stowers, James (Frances) Stowers, Margaret (Stowers)
Everett Perdue, Azile Stowers and Arthur Fuller. He was also preceded in
death by his father and mother-in-law, Irvin and Cassie (Sheets) Fellure,
four brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law: Howard Fellure, Lewis Fellure,
Terry Dean Fellure, Myron Sheets, Dorothy (Fellure) Houck and Bernice Houck.
Walter graduated from Ceredo-Kenova High School in Kenova, W.Va., in 1949.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-1954 during the Korean War where
he achieved the rank of Staff Sargent. Walter then graduated from Marshall
University in 1959 with a BS degree in Social Sciences and a BS in Health
and Physical Education. He pursued his Masters degrees from Marshall
University where in 1960 he graduated with his MS World Political Economics
and Geography and in 1962 with his MS in Administration/Education. Walter
received his PhD from East Coast University Baptist College at Dade City,
Fla., in 1972. Walter retired from the Gallia County Local School District
in 1983. Through his many years in the field of education, he touched many
lives as a teacher, coach, administrator and superintendent throughout the
state of Ohio. He began his teaching and coaching career at Bellbrook High
School in Xenia, Ohio. From there he moved to Mercerville High School in
Mercerville, Ohio, Miami Military Academy in Florida and then to Minford,
Ohio, as teacher and coach at Minford High School. Walter then took the
position of principal in the Gallia County Local School at Southwestern High
School. He also served as principal of Adena Local High School in Frankfort,
Ohio, before accepting the position of superintendent of Liberty Union Local
Schools in Baltimore, Ohio. Walter spent the remainder of his career in
education as a principal at Big Walnut High School in Sunbury, Ohio, then
North Ridgeville High School and Lear North Elementary School in North
Ridgeville, Ohio. Walter then brought his family back to Gallia County where
he finished his career in the Gallia County Local School District as
principal of North Gallia High School and Centerville Elementary School.
Walter worked for the State of Ohio from 1984-1993 as an Account Executive
in Economic Development. He then accepted the position of director of
Southeastern Business College, Gallipolis, Ohio, from 1994-1997. Walter was
a member of Faith Baptist Church in Gallipolis, Ohio. He was a member of the
Scioto #6 Masonic Lodge in Chillicothe, Ohio, for 45 years before
transferring his membership to the Morning Dawn Masonic Lodge of Gallipolis,
Ohio. He also belongs to the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, American
Legion Post of Gallipolis, Ohio and Ohio Retired Teachers Association.
Services will be held 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at the Willis
Funeral Home with Pastor James Lusher and Pastor Alvis Pollard officiating.
Burial will follow at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Mercerville, Ohio. Friends may
call at the funeral home on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, from 5-8 p.m. with a
Masonic Service at 8:00 p.m. There will be full military rites by volunteers
of local veterans organizations. Pallbearers will be Mike Moore, Jason
Thomas, Todd Miller, Joe Bostic, Ryan Matura and Chris Barnes. Honorary
pallbearers are John Hall, a longtime childhood friend and his "Friday

ADKINS, 88, of
Fort Gay, WV passed away Wednesday February 6, 2013. Pauline was born May
20, 1924 in Sharondale, KY, the daughter of the late Floyd A. and Ella Mae
Hinton Donley. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her
husband Jack Adkins. Survivors include five daughters Doris A. Bellomy of
Fort Gay, WV, Ivella Sue Cooksey of Louisa, KY, Deanna J. Merideth and
husband Terry also of Fort Gay, C. Anita Lester and husband Lanny of
Gallipolis, OH, Rhonda G. Rach and husband Albert of Fallsburg, KY; three
sons William K. Adkins and wife Vicki of Marion, OH, Joseph D. Adkins and
wife Tammy of Fort Gay, WV and Kevin T. Adkins and wife Becky of Louisa, KY;
a brother Floyd A. Donley Jr. of Lancaster, OH; 19 grandchildren, many great

KENNEDY, 60, of
Louisa, Ky. passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at Three Rivers Medical
Center in Louisa, Ky. He was born November 11, 1952 in Ashland, Ky. a son of
the late William Morrison and Helen Ernestine Wellman Kennedy Sr.. He was a
construction worker and was a United States Army Veteran. Survivors include,
one daughter, Erin Posani of Richardson, Texas; one sister, Elizabeth
(Randy) Kennedy Kitts of Fort Gay, W.Va.; one brother, William Morrison
(Karen) Kennedy Jr. of Lexington, Ky.; two Grandsons, Alexander and Jason
Posani both of Richardson TX.; nephews and nieces, Brandon, Brian and Nick
Kitts, Will Kennedy and Lauren Kennedy. Funeral services will be conducted

LEE CYFERS, 62,
of Ranger, W.Va., passed away peacefully on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, in Emogene
Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington. He was born Jan. 19, 1951, in West
Hamlin, W.Va., a son of the late William J. and Polly Cyfers. He was the
Pastor of Ranger United Baptist Church for 30 years. He was a retired NDE
inspector with AEP. He was a humble man who loved his Lord, his family and
his work. He is survived by his wife, Linda Cyfers; children, Terry
(Melissa) Cyfers of Huntington, Amy (Rick) Stratton of Hamlin, and Sara
(Jeremy) Adkins of Huntington; grandchildren, Olivea, Caden, Porter, Katelin,
Tucker, Zoe and Paislee; brothers, Roger Cyfers of Ranger, and Darnell
(Linda) Cyfers of Harts, W.Va.; sisters, Ruby Smith of Ranger, and Bonnie
(Larry) Adkins of Ranger; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

at the Wayne Continuous Care Center, Wayne, W.Va. Jenny was the widow of Bob
Hayes of Huntington, W.Va. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12,

born Jan. 1, 1922, in Wayne County, W.Va., the daughter of the late Gus and

N.C. She is survived by her sister, Maxine Hall Carey of Philadelphia, Pa.;

and Linda Hall Morris; one niece of Charlotte, N.C., Carletta McIntosh; and

Jeffrey was born on February 6, 1968, to Phyllis Crockett Queen of Wayne,
W.Va., and the late Philip Queen. He was the co-owner and operator of
Queen's Machine Shop Inc., in Wayne, a member of Genoa United Baptist
Church, and a member of the Masonic Lodge #18 AF&AM. He was preceded in
death by his son Corey Alan Queen. In addition to his mother, he is survived
by his loving wife Tina Denise Perry of 26 years, daughter Kelsey Jo Queen
of Wayne, W.Va.; grandson Coltyn Davis West of Ashland, Kentucky; three
brothers, Steve (Jodie) Queen, Danny (Angie) Queen and Mike Queen, all of
Wayne, W.Va.; three nieces Ashley Blankenship (Kyle), Dakota Queen and
Brailey Queen and one nephew Keith Queen. He is also survived by his very

Supermarket. She was a member of the Twelvepole Valley Missionary Baptist
Church for over 50 years and also attended the East Lynn Baptist Church. She
was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Hill, an infant son Kenny,
sisters Lucille Edenton and Viola Frye, and brothers Melvin and Roy Mayo.
Survivors include three daughters, Ruth Senter of Falls Church, VA, Judy
Harris (Preston) of Buckatunna, MS, and Patty Cassidy (Dallas) of Wayne, WV;
a son, Charles Jerry Hill (Diana) of Fort Gay, WV; nine grandchildren,

Olmsted Falls, Ohio, died February 10, 2013 at his home. Born September 16,

include one sister and brother-in-law, Debra and Chris Sutich; four brothers

Shoals, W. Va., passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at her home, after a
two-year battle with Alzheimer's. She was born November 26, 1924 in Belle
Vernon, Pa., a daughter of the late George and Malvina Saxon Wilding. She
was preceded in death by her husband Garrel L. Pyles, an infant son, a
granddaughter and son-in-law, Bob Brashear. She is survived by three
daughters Beverly Brashear of Belle Vernon, Pa., Marlene Thacker (Dallas)
and Darlene Day (Kevin) of Huntington, W. Va., and one son Garrel L. Pyles,
Jr. (Rhonda) also of Huntington, W. Va. She is the grandmother of Robin
Brashear-Youger, Kelly Brashear (Michelle), Danielle Thacker Stewart (Hal),
Jordan Thacker, Garry Lee Pyles (Tina) and Elizabeth Pyles,
great-grandmother of eleven and great-great-grandmother of one. Tiny was a
former employee of the Wayne County Board of Education working at Buffalo
High School, she was also a charter member of Shoals Missionary Baptist
Church. Per Tiny's request there will be no public services, after cremation
a private service will take place at a later date. The family would like to

MILUM, 48, of
Huntington, W.Va., went home to his Savior on Feb. 12, 2013, at Huntington
Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born Aug. 19, 1964, in Huntington,
W.Va., a son of Alice Milum Maynard of Kenova, W.Va., and the late Billy
Jack Milum. Bryan was a graduate of C-K High School and of nursing school in
Atlanta, Ga. He was employed as an LPN at Madison Park in Huntington. He was
baptized at the Rt. 75 Church of God and was currently a member of the
Kenova Church of God. Bryan loved music and poetry, and was an avid
collector of Blenko Glass. He had a great sense of humor and was a friend to
all who knew him. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his
paternal grandparents, Ermal and Henrietta Milum. He is survived by his
mother, Alice Wells Milum Maynard; one brother, Scott Milum and his wife
Deana; one sister, Sherri Milum; one half brother, Josh Maynard; two half
sisters, Shannon and Belinda Milum; a stepsister, Cheryl Huffman; six
nephews, Kris, Chase, Chandler, Abbott, Brandon and Sean; a special cousin,
Mark Sowards; his stepmother, Linda Milum; and many other special family
members and a host of wonderful friends. The family will receive friends

TRAVIS SMITH,
74, of Ranger, W.Va., passed away Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at St. Mary's
Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va. He was born May 5, 1938, at Ranger,
where he spent most of his life. He was preceded in death by his father,
Jesse Laurence Smith; mother, Mildred Adkins Smith Midkiff; sister, Bonnie
Wentz; and brother, Winston Smith. He is survived by daughters, Kristy
(Ryan) Ray of Ranger, and Jerri Hill of Taylor, Mich.; son, Mike (Kandi)
Hill of Ona, W.Va.; brothers, Harold (Callie) Smith of Ranger, and Delano
Smith of Crown Point, Ind.; sisters, Sharon (Roy) Lovejoy and Donna (Fred)
Martin, both of West Hamlin, W.Va.; five grandchildren, Jordan and Kayla
Hill, Zach and Hunter Hill, and Caleb Ray; many nieces, nephews, numerous
cousins and a host of friends. Dale was a versatile worker with skills and
experiences in various fields, including building construction, road
surveying, school bus driving and mechanic, having last worked as a mechanic
for the Lincoln County Board of Education. He served two years in the Army.
He was an avid outdoorsman and hunter, who loved his natural surroundings
and his woodland home. Dale was a member of the Ranger Church of Christ. He
was a quiet soul who loved to read, especially Civil War history, and was
himself quite a storyteller of Ranger history. To say that his family will
miss him is an understatement, but we are left with a trove of treasured
memories. Services will be conducted 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at the
Ranger Church of Christ with Jesse Williamson, minister, officiating.
Friends may call Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Ranger Church of
Christ. At his request, his ashes will be divided and interred in his three
favorite locations: beside his mother in Smith Cemetery, on Buzzard Rock and
under his tree stand in Ranger, where so many wonderful memories were made.

HELEN PERRY,
62, of Paragould, Ark., formerly of Huntington, W.Va., was taken suddenly to
be with the Lord, Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at Arkansas Methodist Medical
Center. Helen was born Jan. 30, 1951, in Louisa, Ky., a daughter of the late
Paul and Clovia Lemaster Holt. Helen was a devout child of God and a member
of Paragould Missionary Baptist Church. She was a loving wife and a devoted
mother, grandmother, sister and friend to countless people. She enjoyed
working in her flowers, feeding her birds, visiting with family, and
traveling with her husband to numerous places all over the world visiting
her daughter, son-in-law, and grandson, who meant the world to her. She was
a shining light to everyone who knew her. In addition to her parents, she
was preceded in death by two brothers, Claude and Bruce Holt. Survivors
include her loving husband of 43 years, Mike Perry of the home; daughter and
son-in-law, Kelly and Dennis Bruetsch of Calgary, Canada; brothers, Jim Holt

at Kiahsville, W.Va., a daughter of the late Ira Jenkins and Pansy Lee
Counts McCoy. Jewell was a former teacher for Wayne County Schools and a
dietician and cook for the Wayne Senior Citizens Center, and was a member of
the Wayne Church of Christ on Bluefield Street. Her husband, Carl Randall
Boffo; two brothers, Jack R. McCoy and Ronnie G. McCoy; and a sister-in-law,
Winifred "Sis" McCoy, also preceded her in death. Survivors include a son,
Carl Fredrick Boffo of Follansbee, W.Va.; a sister, Joann Spence of Wayne,

CYNTHIA HAYNIE,
66, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House
in Huntington, W.Va. Angels transported her to her Heavenly home. She was
preceded in death by her mother, Thelma Virginia Perdue Haynie; and her
father, Jennings Caldwell Haynie; as well as her sisters, Geraldine Haynie
Meadows and Barbara Haynie Collins; and her brothers, Roger Kent Haynie and
Leo David Haynie. She is survived by her sisters, Millie Haynie Keeney,
Grace Haynie Ferguson, Karen Haynie Sizemore and Diana Haynie Hensley.
Charlene was a member of Madison Avenue Church of God and a previous member
of Buffalo Valley Baptist Church. She was employed by J. C. Penny Company as
an elevator operator and also worked as a custodian at Kellogg Elementary
and Buffalo Elementary. Her hobby was making crafts for charitable
organizations such as the Cabell-Wayne Association for the Blind and helping
with vacation Bible school. Giving handmade gifts to her family and friends
was one of her greatest joys. The family would like to express their
appreciation to Heritage Center employees for their compassionate love and
care for Charlene and also to Hospice of Huntington. Pallbearers will be

VENA (DAY)
SULLIVAN passed
away on Feb. 13, 2013, surrounded by her loved ones at the Wyngate assisted
living facility in Barboursville, W.Va. Vena was born on April 26, 1913, in
Wayne County, W.Va., the first child of Henson and Zera Ferguson Day. Vena
attended Wayne County schools. Traveling in rural Wayne County during the
winter was difficult, therefore, in the winter they would move to the town
of Wayne so the children would not miss school. Vena was an accomplished
student and graduated as valedictorian of her class. Vena and her husband,
Harold, lived in several locations, including Prices Creek, Huntington and
Barboursville. Vena, at the age of 43, decided to return to school to
acquire her nursing certification. She continued in nursing for over 20
years at Cabell Huntington Hospital in the pediatric department. Vena loved
to have family functions and she always had her camera in hand to record her
family as it grew. It is a testament to Vena and Harold that their four
children have great love for each other and have stayed close over the
years. Vena was always active with work, church, gardening and her family.
In her retirement years, she loved to crochet, knit, and play dominoes and
bingo with friends. Her grandchildren cherish the afghans she made for them.
Vena is survived by a sister, Eula Adkins of Ona; three children, Jimmy
(Iva) and Tommy (Karen) of Proctorville, Ohio, and Mary Lou Mason (Jerry) of
Williamstown, W.Va.; a daughter-in-law, Wanda (Baker) Osburn of Westerville,
Ohio; nine grandchildren, Pam (Osburn) Schwartz (Jeff), Rodney Osburn
(Cindy), Jeff Osburn (Dee), Sandy Russell (Gary), David Mason (Melinda),
Deborah (Mason) Swiger (Brian), John Mason (Karen), Mark Sullivan (Leah),
Kevin Sullivan; and 20 great-grandchildren. Vena was preceded in death by
her loving husband, Harold; a son, Wesley Osburn; and a brother, James Day.
Vena was a member of Barboursville Baptist Church. Vena decided to move into
Wyngate when she was 93 for its ability to provide her assistance while
allowing her some independence. Vena developed many friends while at Wyngate.

Williams Keefer. She was a homemaker, founder of Cornerstone House of Prayer

first wife, Katherine Jackson, and his second wife, Aldine Jackson; and one

February 14, 2013 at her residence. She was born May 11, 1944 at Harts, WV a

VIRGINIA BELLE HITE MYLAR,
almost 101 years young, left her home on Earth and was ushered peacefully
and joyfully into Eternity by her Lord, Jesus Christ. Virginia was born
March 3, 1912 in Wayne County, WV a daughter of the late L. G. "Elza" and
Cora Bell Floyd Hite and was raised in the Huntington, WV area. She met her
husband, Ralph, the love of her life, at Huntington High School. She worked
for the Mylar's License Service for many years, but the joy of her life was
her Church, the Madison Avenue Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and
the folks she knew there. She served in many ways, teacher of the Loyal
Women's Class, leader of the youth work, Deaconess and in various capacities
in the Christian Women's Fellowship. She was greatly appreciative of the
many opportunities her Church provided her. She always had a kind word to
say about everyone. She was active in the Church Women United group in
Huntington. Virginia greatly enjoyed celebrating her 100th birthday in March
of 2012 with her large family and friends. It was a very special day and all
enjoyed the celebration and telling her how special she had been to her
family and friends. She was a resident at Madison Park and passed away at
the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington. The family was greatly
appreciative of the loving care she received by the staff at these places.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Ralph C.
Mylar; sons Ralph Edward Mylar and Charles Irwin Mylar; brothers James
Morgan Hite, Richard Hite, Russell Hite; twin sisters Ruby Evans and Ruth
Bentley and sister Ella Bea Berisford. She leaves behind her brothers Rev.
Raymond Harold (Caroline) Hite and Paul (Blanch) Hite; daughters Joann Mylar
(William) Chambers and Henriella Mylar (A. Michael) Perry. She is the proud
grandmother of 10 grandchildren and Great Grandmother of 17 Great
Grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and her many
friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am Tuesday at the Madison
Avenue Christian Church by Pastor Jamie Gump. Burial will follow in

2013. Beckie was preceded in death by her big brother, Charles Curtis Felty,

grandparents, Curtis and Juanita Bocook. Survived by her husband, the love
of her life and best friend, David A. Salyers; the pride and joy of her
life, her sons, Eric David Salyers and Evan Drake Salyers and his
girlfriend, Carly Riley; her stepdaughter, Elizabeth Dawn Salyers; her
parents whom she adored, Chuck and Ruth Ann Felty; her devoted sister, who
took care of her when she needed her most, Sarah Ann Byard and her husband,
Brian. Beckie's in-laws, Larry and Sandra Salyers; her brothers-in-law Greg
Salyers and Laurie and Brian Salyers and Teresa; her sister-in-law, Becky

athletics. She loved to travel with her family and they shared many
wonderful vacations together. Beckie was a true friend to a countless number
of people, to know her was to love her. She made a difference in this world
and touched so many lives with her smile, kindness, gentle spirit and
nursing expertise. Our lives are better for having known her. May the hole
which has been left in our hearts be filled with kindness and caring for one

of Rittman, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013 at his home following a sudden
illness. He was born born July 23, 1950 in Genoa, W.Va. the son of Howard
and Gladys (Robertson) Ball and married Vitoria Z. Robinson on Dec. 22, 1970
who survives. He had worked at Orrville Products for 32 years and had made
his home in Rittman for the past 35 years. He enjoyed working on cars,
attending car show and Blue Grass Music. He will be greatly missed by his

degree Scottish Rite Mason, Royal Arch Chapter York Rite, Shriner Beni Kedem
Temple, Faithful Forty, Fifty-year member of Barboursville Chapter #95 Order
of the Eastern Star, where he served as Worthy Patron ten times, Past Royal
Patron of the Order of Amaranth, Faith Court #11. One of his greatest and
most meaningful pleasures was driving the Shrine Van taking children to the
Shriners Hospital in Lexington, Ky., and Cincinnati, Ohio. He was preceded
in death by his parents, Ozzie C. Billups Sr. and Gladys Donahoe Billups;
brothers, Foster "Doc" Billups and Ozzie C. "Dick" Billups Jr.; sister,
Martha Billups Winters; his first wife of 53 years, Louise Bowen Billups;

Thompson. Gladys was a member of the Jefferson Avenue Church of God, where

Robert Amos Thompson II; and one sister, Deloris Abernathy. She is survived
by Julius "Dee" Edward Young; a son, Roger Dale and Diane Young; three
daughters, Jeris Ann and James Fry, Tammy Lynn and Michael Wilson, and Lisa
Carole McFarland; one brother, Marshall Ray and Lois Thompson; one sister,

of Ceredo, W.Va., passed away Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at Hall's Assisted
Living, Huntington. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at
the Reger Funeral Chapel by Bill Cornwell and Carroll Browning. Burial will
follow in Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington. He was born Nov. 27, 1916, in
Wayne County, W.Va., a son of the late Burwell and Elizabeth Insco Spurlock.
He was a retired steelworker with Conner's Steel Co. In addition to his
parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Virginia Spurlock; his
beloved son, Burwell "Billy" Spurlock; and his close friends, Jim and
Lucille Corns. A longtime member of Ceredo Church of Christ, Wetzel leaves
behind his friends and church family. A special thanks to the Hall's

East Lynn, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, February 22, 2013.
She was born March 10, 1931 in Lincoln County, West Virginia, a daughter of
the late William and Mary Davis. Her husband Boyd Dillon also preceded her
in death along with her five brothers, Lyle Davis, Gilbert Davis, Wilbert
Davis, Tommy Davis, and Howard Davis, and her five sisters, Delilah Adkins,
Verna Jeffers, Esta Prichard, Maretta Burns, and Geneva McComas. Ethel was a
homemaker and a member of the Big Lynn Freewill Baptist Church. She leaves
behind five children: Danny Lee Dillon and his wife Lisa of Lincoln County;
Debra Lynn Adkins, Rodney Gale Dillon, Teresa Napier and her husband Kennith,
all of East Lynn, and Lisa Garcia and her husband John of Lavalette, W.Va.;
eight grandchildren, Jonathan Adkins, Douglas Eugene Dillon, Tiffany Osburn,
Heather Adkins, Nathan Dillon, Brandon Dillon, Kristina Dillon, and Katrina
Dillon; and two great-grandchildren: Cayden Dillon and Brylee Black. Funeral

Virginia. Lacy was born April 17, 1925 in Paint Creek, West Virginia, a son
of the late Elsworth and Francis Stone. He was retired from Aristech
Chemical. He attended Buffalo Valley Missionary Baptist Church. He was also
a US Navy Veteran, having served during World War II. Survivors include his
beloved wife of 64 years, Lula Mae Skeens Stone; two children Beverly and
Gary Bailey and Kim and Lugene Stone of Huntington, West Virginia. Three
grandchildren, Lacy Leanne and Mark Wilson, Angela and Brandon Huff, and
Dustin and Sara Stone; one sister, Nora Stone Stewart, one nephew Eugene
Noble; and four great grand children, (who was the joy of his life), Lacy
MarLeah, KimberLynn Hope, Titus Stone Wilson and Bryson Timothy Stone; and
three more on the way, Baby Wilson, Baby Huff, Baby Stone. He also leaves

born July 27, 1929, a son of the late Arbit and Mary Cox Pack. In addition
to his parents he was preceded in death by four sisters, Vaudney Pack,
Phyllis McCaig, Exlee Moore and Malda Marcum; four brothers, Eddie, Lonnie,
Homer and Roger Pack; and one great-grandson, Cody Pack. Surviving is his
loving wife of 57 years, Ella Miller Pack; son, Daryl Pack (Annetta) of
Calhoun County, W.Va.; daughter, Tammy Daniels (Tim) of Wayne; four
grandchildren, Sara Shafer (Andrew), Joshua Bond, Tiffiney Little (David)
and Aaron Martinez; one great-grandson, Maddox Shafer; two sisters, Hazel
Marcum of Detroit, Mich., and Joan Begley of Taylor, Mich.; and two
brothers, Clayton Pack of Detroit, Mich., and Odell Pack of Riverview, Mich.

SMITH, 80, of
Ceredo, W.Va., went to be with the Lord Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at the
Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. Charles was born Feb. 21, 1933, in
Ceredo, W.Va., a son of the late James Dewey and Mayme Bell Neal Smith. He
was known as "Shorty" to all who loved him, and will be terribly missed.
"Shorty" was a loving husband to Margaret Ann, and was preceded in death by
his son, Charles William Smith Jr. In addition to his wife, he is survived
by his son, Michael Wayne Smith and his wife Susan; and his grandchildren,
Jessie and Tony Hardesty, Michael Smith and Jenny, Drew Smith and Amanda. He
has two great-granddaughters, Grace and Madelyn Perego. He is also survived
by five brothers and two sisters, Roger, Arthur, Douglas, George, Howard,
Wilma and Nanna Mae. He had many close nephews and nieces, and a very
special niece, Sandra Perdue. His special friends David and Penny Caldwell,
and he loved his two buddies, Duke and Mindy. He was a self-employed
mechanic and body man, and was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army during the
Korean War, having served in the 82nd Airborne 325th Infantry Regiment in
Fort Bragg, N.C. A memorial service will be conducted at 5:30 p.m. Thursday,
Feb. 28, 2013, at the Tri-State Worship Center, South Point, Ohio, with
Pastor Terry Wagner officiating. Veterans Honor Guard, Post 16, will conduct

She was born February 1, 1927, in Whites Creek, W.Va., a daughter of the

Little Giant Grocery and a member of the Cyrus Baptist Church of Kenova,
W.Va. Dorothy was also a charter member of the Whites Creek OES 159. In
addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband William
Davis and brother Pearl "Buster" Christian. Survivors include a son and
daughter-in-law Bill and Herma Lynn Davis of Kenova, W.Va.; grandchild

Wayne High School where he proudly played Pioneer football for Coach
Jarrell. Joe graduated from Marshall University where he was a member of
Kappa Alpha Fraternity and was a sales manager for S.C. Johnson. He is
survived by a son Christopher Alan Russell of New York, N.Y., sister Maxine
Lewis (Don) of Ironton, Ohio, two brothers, Clifford Douglas Russell (Edith)
of Denver, Colorado and Daniel (Debbie) Russell of Wayne. Joe lived his life

March 14, 1936, passed from this life February 26, 2013, at age 76 from his
home at Ranger, W.Va. He was surrounded by family and friends by his side.
James is the son of the late Lawrence and Doskey Neace. He is survived by
his wife Sallie Lucas Neace; a son Lee Neace and a daughter-in-law Bobbi
Perkins Neace; Lee's children are Jessica Adkins, Derick, Chelsie, Rachel
and Destiny Neace; a daughter Melissa Neace Clark; Melissa's children are
Robert James and Summer Clark; and a daughter April Neace Morrison; April's
daughters are Autumn and Chyanne Morrison. He is also survived by two
brothers, Carl and Robert Wondel "Mert" Neace; and three sisters, Annabel
Cyfers, Violet Neace and Patricia Webb. James retired from ACF Industries,
is a son of God, a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was loved by

cashier from Winn Dixie. Besides her parents she was also preceded in death
by her husband Earl Robert Johnson three sisters and two brothers. Survivors

June 11, 1927, in Putnam County, W.Va., to Amos Noah and Phoebe Lee Jones

death by her parents; her sisters, Clarice Smith, Juanita Wells and Oma
Hunt; and one brother, Robert L. Peyton. She is survived by her nieces, Emma
Lee Morrison, Geraldine "Jerrie" Hussell and Norma Jean Farley; and her
nephews, Kyle Browning, Charles Chester "Pat" Wells and John Allen Peyton.

A. SCAGGS, 90,
of Daytona Beach, Fla., formerly of Huntington, W.Va., passed away on
Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at Hospice of the Comforter in Altamonte Springs,
Fla. Bill was born and raised in Westmoreland, a son of the late Fletcher G.
Sr. and Blanche Cornwell Scaggs. After the early death of his mother, he was
raised and loved by his stepmother, Mae Bell Queen Scaggs. He is preceded in
death by his wife, Kate Faye Browning Scaggs; and brother, Fletcher G.
Scaggs Jr. He is survived by two sons, Rev. David Allen Scaggs Sr. (Candy)
of Westport, Ind., and William I. Scaggs of Altamonte Springs, Fla.; two
grandsons, David Allen Scaggs Jr. (Jenny) of Hendersonville, Tenn., and
Robert Garrett Scaggs (Allysa) of Westport, Ind.; and also three
great-grandchildren, Mason Scaggs of Hendersonville, Tenn., Drake and Katie
Scaggs of Westport, Ind. Bill retired from Houdaille Industries in
Huntington, and is a member of the First Baptist Church of Port Orange, Fla.
He was a member of VFW Post 1064, Mountaineer Chapter #37 of the 4th Marine
Division, Crescent Lodge #32 as a 32nd degree mason, Huntington Scottish
Rite, Beni Kedem Temple, and Eastern Star Marcum Chapter #61. Bill served in
World War II 4th Marine Division as a Pharmacist Mate, where he received two
Bronze Stars and several other awards for meritorious service. Bill loved
sports and was a semi-pro boxer while serving in the Military. He was the
charter manager/coach of the VFW 1064 boxing team, where he led several
local boxers to fight in Madison Square Garden. His love of sports was also
demonstrated by being a key organizer for the Westmoreland Little League
football team, building the backdrop for Little League's Smith Baseball
field, and the key constructor for the lights at Vinson High School Football
field. He organized the Daytona Beach Chapter of the West Virginia Club and
remained active in the club. Bill enjoyed his retirement and being able to
visit the beach, square dance and visit with friends. The family wishes to
express their appreciation for the acts of kindness given to Bill and family
during his illness and passing. Special acknowledgements to loving friend

HUNTER, 85, of
Huntington, widow of Eddie Mac Hunter, passed away Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013,
at her residence. She was born July 28, 1927, in Huntington, W.Va., a
daughter of the late Joseph Daniel and Esta Mae Ramey Carey. In addition to
her parents, two sisters, Mildred Mae Cox and Dorothy Jean Whitt, preceded
her in death. Betty Jo graduated in 1945 from Vinson High School, and was
retired as an accounting and payroll manager after starting on the floor as
a sales clerk at the former Anderson Newcomb Department Store and Stone and
Thomas Department Store with 48 years service. She joined the Beta Sigma Phi
in April 1960 in Nu Chapter. Betty Jo progressed to Xi Rho, Preceptor Phi,
Laureate Phi and lastly Lambda Master. Betty Jo served two consecutive terms
as president of Beta Sigma Phi city council, as well as Recording Secretary
Treasurer. In 1978-79, she was selected as Miss Beta Sigma Phi for
Huntington. She was chairman of two state conventions held in Huntington
1969 and 1975, and served as treasurer of three other conventions held in
1982, 1992 and 1999. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Susan
Hunter Nichols and Robert Nichols of Huntington; a brother, Paul Edward
Carey of Stockton, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to
thank her special friends at EMS Transport and at Fresenius Dialysis Units.
