ALMA RAMEY MAYNARD, 88, of Wayne, WV and North Ridgeville, OH went home to be with Lord, her husband and children Monday, April 1, 2013, after suffering from a stroke. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. with funeral services at 1:00 pm Sunday, April 7, 2013 at Morris Funeral Home Chapel by Elders Roger Maynard and Orville Damron. Burial will follow at Community Memorial Gardens, Wayne, WV. She was born April 23, 1924 in Stiltner, WV, a daughter of the late Lonzo and Hettie Adkins Ramey. Alma and her husband Hobert Maynard built and operated Maynard’s Grocery in East Lynn, WV. She loved her family and church family at the Echo United Baptist Church where she was a member. Her husband of 70 years, Hobert Maynard also preceded her in death, along with two daughters, Barbara Stapleton and Roberta Smith; two sisters, Bertha Frasher and Justine Calenti; two brothers, George and Seburn Ramey. Survivors include a loving daughter, Bonnie Pope and husband Alan of North Ridgeville, OH; two sisters, Judy Vaughan and husband, Doug of Wayne, WV, Lorene Fisher of Florida; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Agnes and Garland Lycans of Huntington; a sister-in-law, Ethel Ramey of Florida; nine grandchildren, Hoby, Ronnie and Roy Stapleton, Lynette Osburn, Susie and Taylor Smith, Sherry Hickey, Don and Frank Pope; twelve grandchildren, Diana, Janet, Ron Jr., Camille, Chris, Samantha, Hoby Jr., Joey, Stanley Jr., Ashley, Taylor Jr., and Audrey; four great-great grandchildren, Madison, Autumn, Ronald Austin and Izabella.
LEVA "SISSY" WILEY NEACE, 74, of Kiahsville, W.Va., went to be with her Lord and Risen Savior on Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford Wiley and Sarah Bias Wiley; four brothers, Bernie, Dewey, Ken and Mark Wiley; and one daughter, Kathy Lynn. She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Virgil "Ed" Neace; one daughter, Nicole "Nikki" (Bill) Rickman of Louisa, Ky.; two sons, Eddie Neace and Rev. Clifford Jason Neace, both of Kiahsville; one grandson, Luke Alan Rickman of Louisa, Ky.; four sisters, Sharon Smith of Port Ritchie, Fla., Peachie (Billie Jo) Harless of Chapmanville, W.Va., Judy (Midge) Thompson and Kathy (Dale) Dalton both of Harts, W.Va.; and one brother, Winchester "Checker Bo" (Ruth Ann) Wiley of Ringgold, Ga. She was a very special Nana to Miranda Nicole Kruk. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Sunday, April 7, 2013, at Montana Freewill Baptist Church with Ernest Vance and Bennie Dean officiating. JENNIFER LEE CARROLL, 59, of Kenova, W.Va., went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. She was born July 26, 1953, in Kenova, W.Va., daughter of the late Donald Hobart and Emma Lou McKee Akers. Jennifer was a member of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church and was the Nursing Coordinator and Health Science Division Chair of the Ashland Community and Technical College. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Allison and Andy Anderson; one brother and sister-in-law, Donald H. Akers Jr. and Deborah E. Akers; granddaughter, Emma Claire Anderson; aunt, Delores Thacker; nephews, Chris (Brooke) Akers, James Carroll, Chase Carroll and Grayson Quinn; nieces, Lesley (Nathan) Atkins, Kelly Akers, Marlena Bleau, Jessica Casey and Carissa Carroll; great-nieces Carlie Casey and Ashby-Kate Bleau; great-nephew, Cain Maynard; cousins, Donald Ray Hampton, Ronald Hampton, Virginia Jeffers, Annette Schoew, Dr. Leo Gibson Jr., Tom Gibson, and Sherman Bartram, and very special friend, Michelle Napier. Jennifer also leaves behind a long list of students and those whose lives she has touched because of her compassion and love of nursing. CONNIE SUE MAYNARD, 55, of Dunlow, formerly of Lovely, Ky. went to heaven to be with the Lord on Tuesday April 2, 2013. She was born July 14, 1957 in Martin County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late James and Dorothy McCoy Maynard. Two brothers, John Maynard, and David Maynard, and three sisters, Kathleen Maynard Mills, Joyce Maynard Newsome, and Bonnie Maynard Salmons, also preceded her in death. Connie was married to Troy F. Maynard and they resided at Cabwaylingo National State Forest, where she spent her days being a devoted, gentle, kind, caring, understanding, and loving, housewife, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was always slow to take and quick to give. Survivors include one brother, James Maynard of Ohio; three sisters. Francis Maynard Moore, Loucile Maynard Dials, and Betty Maynard all of Lovely, Ky.; four children, Cynthia C. Jude Watts, and her husband Michael Shayne, of Wayne, W.Va., Melissa D. Jude, of South Charleston, W.Va., Rodney B. Jude, and his wife Cassie, of Wayne, and Christopher L. Hallam, of South Charleston; four grandchildren, Joshua David Jude, Wendell Taylor Johnson, Arabella Jude, and Allyssa Jude; and many extended family members. A celebration of Connie’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home, with Brother Harold Pelfrey officiating. Per her request her ashes will be scattered at the feet of her mother and father’s grave located at the family cemetery at Blacklog, Ky. at a later date, so she can, in her own words, "Fly away to FREEDOM." OPAL LEE PAULEY, 79, of Wayne, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at St. Mary's Medical Center, Huntington, W.Va. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Michael Dillon officiating. Burial will follow in the Stephens Cemetery, Wilson Creek. She was born on June 14, 1933, in Wayne County, W.Va., to the late Pearley Stephens and Mary Alice Sellards Stephens. Opal was preceded in death by her son, Tony Lee Pauley; sisters, Arinita Stephens and Kathleen Stephens Batten; and brothers, Pearley "Jack" Stephens and Glen Stephens. Surviving are her daughter, Sandra Stephens (James) of Wayne; and sons, Harold Pauley (Patty) of Lavalette and Dale Ray "Whitey" Pauley (Mary Ann) of Wayne. LARRY DALE OSBURN, 70, of South Point, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at the River's Bend Health Care, South Point, Ohio. He was born Nov. 16, 1942, in Lavalette, W.Va., a son of the late Jennings Curtis and Margaret Caroline Schnitzer Osburn. Larry was a disabled veteran and was a member of Central Church of Christ, Chesapeake, Ohio, American Legion Post 93, Kenova, VFW Post 1064, Huntington, and DAV Chapter 2. Survivors include his wife of nearly 50 years, Bea Ann Osburn of South Point; a sister and brother-in-law, Dixie and Glen Adkins of Huntington; a brother and sister-in-law, Harry W. and Donna Osburn of Cleburne, Texas; and nieces and nephews, Steven Adkins, Beth Ann Rowse, Theresa Rogers, Shelia Stark, Eddie Hunter and Greg Hunter. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2013, at Chapman's Mortuary with Minister Paul Drake officiating. MINNIE DYER, 83, of Greenup, Ky., wife of Leonard Dyer Jr., died April 4, 2013 at her residence. She was born Aug. 16, 1929, to the late William "Bill" Holbrook and Edith VanNatter Holbrook. She was a retired retail manager and member of Greenup First Baptist Church. Minnie was not only a doer but also a giver to all the she loved and knew. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She enjoyed traveling, quilting and music. She also had a very infectious laugh. Survivors include daughters, Portia Leonard of Wayne, W.Va.; stepdaughter, Peggy (Phil) Marcantonio of Canton, Ohio; stepsons, Durwin Dyer (Debbie) of Ona, W.Va., Norris Dyer (Carla) of Charleston, W.Va., and Leonard G. JAMES FLOYD FLETCHER, 56, of Ft. Gay, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on April 5, 2013. He was born on May 11, 1956 at Dayton, Ohio, a son of the late Floyd Eldon Fletcher and Letha Porter Esque. He leaves behind two daughter, Kimberly Fletcher of Ft. Gay, and Stephanie Esque of Huntington, W.Va.; one son James Fletcher of Ft. Gay; three sisters, Margaret Meadows of South Point, Oh., Sharon Keaton and her husband Roger of Ona, W.Va., and Jeannette Couch and her husband Shane of Prichard, W.Va.; two brothers, Ray Fletcher and his wife Mary of Wayne, W.Va., and Paul Fletcher and his wife Sherry of Huntington; and a host of friends and family too numerous to mention. CHARLES MINNIS PERRY, 74, of Sugar Bowl Road in the Union Temple Community, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, April 5, 2013. He retired from Aus-Tex. Mr. Perry was a member of Mt. Bethel Free Will Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee and a dedicated Sunday School teacher for many years. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law: Raymond and Denise Perry of Chuckey; daughter: Marie Haun of Jonesborough; four grandchildren: Dale and wife Rebekah Perry, Cody Haun and wife Courtney, Sara Perry, and Callie Perry; two sisters: Goldie Adkins of Huntington, West Virginia, and Nellie Huggens of Mt. Vernon, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. He was the son of the late Charley D. and Nanny Perry of Wayne, West Virginia. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years: Marlene; a brother: Garnet Dale Perry of Fort Gay, West Virginia; and a sister: Opal Ross of East Lynn, West Virginia. The family received friends 6-9 p.m. Monday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home. The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at Kiser-Rose Hill Chapel with Rev. Dennis Daughtery and Rev. Alfred Cutshall officiating. Interment followed in Graceland Memorial Gardens. DANNY DEE RILEY, 72, of South Point, Ohio, passed away Friday, April 5, 2013, at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, W.Va. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, April 8, 2013, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. James Bolen and Elder Roger Maynard. Burial will follow at Sallie Smith Cemetery, Dunlow, W.Va. He was born July 31, 1940, in Lawrence County, Ohio, a son of the late Herschel and Thelma Pemberton Riley. He was a 1958 graduate of Chesapeake High School, where he was awarded "Male Athlete of the Year." He proudly served with courage and honor in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1958 to 1962. During his enlistment, he completed tours of duty in the Mediterranean and Caribbean, and was an instructor at Officer Training School for two years in Quantico, Va. He served as president, coach and mentor for South Point Youth Sports. In 2002, Danny retired from Aristech/Sunoco Chemicals in Haverhill, Ohio, after 31 years of service. He was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Marine Corps League detachment 340 in Huntington, as well as the Honor Guard Commander at the American Legion Post 93 in Kenova, W.Va. Danny enjoyed helping his fellow veterans as a DAV driver for the VA Medical Center in Huntington, where he had over 11,000 volunteer hours and logged 75,000 miles. Also preceding him in death was an infant son, Gregory Allen Riley; a brother, Dickie Riley; and and a brother-in-law, J. Bernard Clark. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Janice Pack Riley; a daughter, Michelle Riley Boggs and husband, James of Ashland, Ky.; a son, Shawn Daniel Riley and fiancé, Casey Spiller and her daughter, Jenna of Knoxville, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Mason and Danielle Boggs of Ashland, Ky.; a sister, Barbara Clark of Chesapeake, Ohio; and a host of friends and additional family. DARLENE BRUMFIELD BIAS, 73, of Kenova, W.Va., loving wife and companion of 54 years to Don W. Bias, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, April 6, 2013, from the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, W.Va. Darlene was born Feb. 19, 1940, in Mingo County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Wade H. and Frances Roberts Brumfield. She retired after 27 years of service from the Wayne County School System, working at Ceredo Elementary. She was a member of the Kenova Church of God, where she was the former president of the Ladies Auxiliary, a Sunday school teacher and a choir member. In recent years, Darlene had been attending the Jefferson Avenue Church of God, where she was active in many activities. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters. Survivors include her beloved and faithful husband, Don W. Bias; two sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy Don and Georgeann Bias, all of Kenova, and Robert Mark and Julia Bias of Katy, Texas; six grandchildren, Jody (Stacey) Shy, Ashley (J.B.) Blankenship, all of Huntington, W.Va., Amanda (Jason) Cox of Fulsher, Texas, Melissa, Cameron and Jonathan Bias, all of Katy, Texas; nine great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Hall, Chaz Bias, Addison Cox, Samuel, Michael and Landon Shy, Finley, Kennedy and Chandler Blankenship; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Louise Starr of Kenova, W.Va., Janet and Dallas Maynard of Ceredo, W.Va.; one sister-in-law, Mabel Scott of Marion, Ohio; a very special great-nephew, John David Callicoat; a special friend, Rosella Shoemaker; many nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends; and her loyal boy, Dusty. Mrs. BEATRICE LUCAS DALTON, 82, of Greenup, Ky., formerly of Harts, W.Va., died Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Our Lady of Bellefonte in Russell, Ky. Bea was born Dec. 14, 1930, at Harts, W.Va., a daughter of the late John and Jane Walker Lucas. Bea was a homemaker, after teaching across Lincoln County, W.Va., and owning her own upholstery business. She was also a member of the Eastern Star at the Smith Lodge #775 at Russell, Ky. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Thurl; brothers, Billy Lucas, Boyce (Pat) Lucas and John Dale Lucas; sisters, Mona (Arlie) Farley, Mayme (Billy) Toler and Bonnie Lucas. Survivors include her son, Randy (Colene) Dalton of Worthington, Ky.; and daughters, Gail (Dave) Mullins of Huntington, W.Va., and Tammy (Larry) Frazier of Greenup, Ky.; grandchildren, Amy (Rob) Bess of Russell, Ky., Dale (Alison) Mullins of Culloden, W.Va., Phillip Dalton and Randi Gail Dalton of Worthington, Ky., Becki (Justin) Donnell of Amarillo, Texas, and Brad (Nina) Rose of Tampa, Fla.; 11 great-grandchildren, Riley and Katie Bess, Grant and Kyle Mullins, Colton Donnell, Jayden and Jackson Roark, Hunter and Arabella Rose, Sean and Hayle Dalton. ELEANOR JEAN DIXON OSBURN, 74, of Kenova, W.Va. passed away Saturday, April 6, 2013, in Cabell Huntington Hospital. She was born Sept. 10, 1938, in Wayne County, a daughter of the late William W. and Lilly Lorene Johnson Dixon. Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by four brothers. Eleanor is survived by her beloved husband, Robert Osburn; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Mark Osburn (Jennifer) of Kenova and Dana Osburn of South Point, Ohio; one granddaughter, Katie Smith-Zimmerman of Kenova; one brother and his wife, Larry D. Dixon (Bonnie); and a sister, Margie Lilly, all of Huntington. Graveside services will be conducted 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at Maple Hill Cemetery with Elder Richard Napier officiating. MACK LYCURGUS JORDAN, 98 of Huntington, went to be with Jesus, Saturday, April 6, 2013 at the VA Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the Reger Funeral Chapel by Minister Billy M. Jordan and Pastor Phillip Warren. Burial will follow in Spring Valley Memory Gardens, Huntington. He was born March 19, 1915 in Huntington, WV a son of the late William and Florence Handley Jordan. He drove a truck all his life, even during WWII while serving in the Army. He was a member of Prince of Peace FWB Church where he loved going and he loved his Jesus. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Lucille Jordan; a son, Lowell Wooten, two daughters, Bettie Hampton and Bonestal Jordan; three grandsons, Greg Jordan, Leslie Jordan and Bryon Wooten, and one great grandson, Billy Jordan, Jr., and nine brothers and sisters. Survivors include, a son and daughter-in-law Billy Mack and Carol Jordan, one son-in-law, Bernard Hampton, two daughters and sons-in-law, Beulah Ann and Albert Thomas and Bonnie and Calvin Thomas all of Huntington, and one daughter and son-in-law of Chesapeake, Ohio, Barbara and Lee Shockley. In addition, 18 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, including one special niece Rabb Petit of California and a host of friends. CHARLINE HALL, 81, of Wayne passed away Sunday, April 7, 2013 at St. Mary's Medical Center, Huntington, WV. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Heath Wooten officiating. Burial will follow in the Bowen Cemetery, Huntington, WV. She was born January 18, 1932 in Pike County, KY to the late Charles Conley and Effie Stafford Conley. Charline was preceded in death by her husband Jack Lee Jay Hall Sr., daughter Delores Gail Hall, four sisters and 3 brothers. Surviving is her daughters Sheila (Joe) Hubbell of Wayne, WV, Cora (Don) Beare of Versailles, Ohio, and Patricia (Matt) Kholer, sons Jack (Jackie) Hall, Ralph Hall all of Wayne, WV, Keith (Debbie) Hall, Gary (Teresa) Hall and Brian Hall all of Barboursville. LUCILLE ROBERTSON, 64, of Fort Gay, W.Va. passed away Monday, April 8, 2013 at the Emogene Dolin Hospice House in Huntington. She was born March 28, 1949 in Fort Gay, a daughter of Hazel Robertson and the late Frank Dewey Robertson. She was a homemaker. AUTHO BLANKENSHIP, 67, of Lavalette, W.Va., went to be with The Lord and also join his son Jason on Thursday morning, April 10, 2013. He was born March 10, 1946, in Wayne County, a son of the late Clyde "Rooster" and Ellen Marie Blankenship. One sister, Quilla Ratcliff, also preceded him in death. He was the beloved husband of Hazel R. Blankenship for 39 wonderful years; the loving father to Hamilton Blankenship and his fiancé Noel Thompson, both of Corpus Christi, Texas, Edna (Glenn Jr.) of Huntington, Autho "A.J." Jr. (Annie) Blankenship of Portland, Texas, Dana (Roger) of Mammoth Cave, Ky., and Teresa Blankenship of Huntington. Autho's greatest joy was his grandchildren, Emily, Aaron, Savannah, Kaiden, "Tater" Blankenship, David and Hannah Trosper, Eric Thomspon, Eric Maynard, Robert Blankenship, Cody Carnes and Megan Blankenship. Also surviving are three brothers, Dexel (Wanda) Blankenship, Denny (Donna) Blankenship and Adrian (Carolyn) Blankenship; one sister, Annalou (Willis) Maynard; special niece, Karen Ratcliff; many additional nieces and nephews; and special friends, Kathy Miller and Glenn and Tina Burton. Autho was not only a great dad but a best friend. His signature laugh will never be forgotten. Amidst all the joking and playing around, we all knew that he was always there when we needed him. She was born Oct. 13, 1935, a daughter of the late Mont Lee Davis and Zella Thacker Davis. In addition to her parents, Norma was also preceded by her husband, Marvin Meade; four sisters, Peggy Davis, Freda Davis, Mary Audrey Thompson and Blanche Burton; one brother, Kenneth Davis; a nephew, David N. Morgan; a niece, Dena Hazlett; and one great-niece, Kennedy Grace Hazlett. She is survived by her son, Bernard Michael Meade; two brothers, Maxie (Donna) Davis and Ralph (Wanda) Davis, all of Prichard; two sisters, Glenna (Curtis) Sturm of Bakersfield, Calif., and Barbara Slone of Prichard; and several nieces and nephews. ROY FRANK PAULEY, 89, passed away peacefully at his home in Louisa, Ky. on April 11, 2013, after an extended illness. He was born in SaltPetre, West Virginia (Wayne County), on January 22, 1924, the son of William and Victoria Ailif Pauley. He was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Pauley of Ona, West Virginia and a sister, Mavis Pauley Martin of Fort Gay. Frank is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Peggie Grace Pauley and his three children, Frank Ray Pauley (Sandy) of Fort Gay, W.V. , Rodney Pauley (Sharon), Vicki Pauley Bradley (Bill) all of Louisa, Ky., eight grandchildren and five great-ganddaughters. Frank was a graduate of Fort Gay High School class of 1943. During WWII he served in the United States Army as a high-speed diesel engineer. Later, Frank was employed by N&W Railroad as a telegraph operator. From 1948-1955, he was the owner and operator of Pauley’s Grocery in Williamson, WV. Frank and his wife then moved to Fort Gay, where he established Frank’s Market which he ran from 1956-1976. After retiring, Frank was employed with United States Postal service as a rural mail carrier. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a long time member of SaltPetre Christian Baptist Church. His life and accomplishments will be celebrated with a visitation at Young Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, April 13, 2013, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 14, 2013 at 2:00 PM at SaltPetre Christian Baptist Church with Reverend Frank Copley and Reverend Richard Maynard officiating. Burial in the Lynch cemetery with military honors will follow.
ANNA NAOMI HALL, 84, of Prichard, W.Va. went to be with the Lord Friday, April 12, 2013 while at home with her family at her side. She was born December 11, 1928 in Prichard, W.V. the daughter of the late Dency and Pearl Stewart Hazlett. She was the widow of the late Billy C. Hall. She waspreceded indeath by three daughters, Billie J. (Homer) Robertson, Kathy A. (Butch) Powell and Marsha L. (Jessee) Robertson, three grandchildren, and four siblings. She is survived by two daughters, Beverly June (Joe) Ekers and Carol Anne (Wally) Smith with whom she resided. Also surviving are 9 Grandchildren, 12 Great Grandchildren, 7 siblings and a special friend, Ileta Willis. She was an active long time member of Community Chapel Church. HELEN (REDWING) VINSON, who was born Nov. 25, 1937, walked into her Savior's arms April 14, 2013. Her untimely passing is preceded by her two children, Terry J. Belvin and an infant child; one grandchild; five sisters, Mamie, Pansy, Alice, Catherine and Mary; three brothers, John, Harry and Samuel; and her parents, Bernard Belvin and Durfie Branham Belvin. She is survived by her husband, Joseph Edward Vinson III; seven children, including Crystal, Brenda, Joseph, Pamela and Bernard; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three stepsons, Nathan, Joseph and JG; two step-grandchildren; two sisters, Ella and Anna; two brothers, Bernard and David; many nieces, nephews, friends and other family who will all mourn her passing. Helen was a member of the Monacan Indian Nation of Amherst, Va., was loyal in the Pentecostal faith and was a lifetime member of Jimmy Swaggart Ministries. Services for Helen will be at the Reger Funeral Home in Huntington, W.Va., on Sunday, April 21, 2013, with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. and services at 3 p.m. She will rest in Dock's Creek Cemetery, Kenova, W.Va. Helen was loved and respected by many and especially throughout Indian Country. She was a mentor, advisor, friend, and visionary to so many. She was fondly known also as Mama Bear for her many admirable traits, which include protection of her people and heritage, a mother and protector of many, and her unpredictable free spirit. She inspired with her wit and wisdom and created a legacy that will endure. Comments from her many family and friends include: "... my friend you will forever be one of our Monacan Angels" and "You will be forever missed but never forgotten." A special appreciation to her daughter Pam for providing years of tireless and selfless support and love ensuring Helen and Ed were always comfortable and cared for. Many Native American tribes considered the "Great Spirit" often takes on the form of a bear. The bear would lead hunters on great chases and its spirit reborn each spring. JEWEL MAXINE MCCOMAS JENKINS, 88, of Huntington, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 14, 2013, at her residence. She was born April 6, 1925, in Prichard, W.Va., a daughter of the late Herbert Walter and Nellie Billups McComas. Maxine was also preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Alex Jerome Jenkins; a sister, Tommie McComas Graham; and four brothers, Frank, Jim, Paul, and Bill McComas. Maxine graduated from Buffalo High School and attended the Huntington School of Business. She was a former tax preparer for Mylar's and H&R Block in Huntington and was a member of Baptist Temple, where she served in many capacities over the years, including several years as Chairman of the Board of Christian Education. She was also a volunteer with the local literacy program and served as a tutor for those adults learning to read. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Tim Clagg of Alpharetta, Ga., Pamela and Julio Diaz of Tulsa, Okla., and Paula and Terry Holley of Huntington; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Nancy Jenkins of Napierville, Ill.; nine grandchildren, Bethany Leftwich, Karen Grizzard, Jeffrey Clagg, Diana, Adriana and Carlos Diaz, David and Kyle Jenkins, and Katie Poti; eight great- grandchildren, Sarah, Julia and Anna Leftwich, Colin and Emily Grizzard, Rex and Aravis Smith, and Alden Poti; a sister and brother-in-law, Joyce McComas Kirk and Leonard Kirk of Galion, Ohio; two brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Doretta McComas and Roger and Darlene McComas, all of Prichard, W.Va.; a brother-in-law, Douglas Graham of Cincinnati, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Sandra McComas of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Adele White of Columbus, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. www.beardmortuary.com.ROY BENJAMIN McKINNEY, 71 of Kenova, W.Va., died Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, W.Va. He was born Sept. 30, 1941, in Wayne County, a son of the late Roy and Edra Ferguson McKinney. Roy had worked as a Quality Control Tech for Standard Lefarge; he also worked at C-K Florist. He was proud of the two quartets he sang in, the Rejoicers and the Heaven Heirs, and then later singing with his sisters. He was also thankful to have been a member of the Naval Reserve. In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by one son, Roy B. (Tracy) McKinney III. He is survived by his beloved wife, Frankie C. Maurer McKinney; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ricky D. and Lynn McKinney of Kenova and Shawn Roy and Sherri McKinney of South Point, Ohio; two granddaughters, Shannon Rae McKinney and Breanna Shea McKinney; one great-granddaughter, Nevaeh McKenzy Hayes; two brothers, Charlie and Norman McKinney; and three sisters, Patty Nelson, JoAnn Preston and Maxine Jeffrey. KATHERINE "Katie" JEANETTE PLYMALE, 33, of Ashland, KY, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, KY. She was born November 2, 1979 in Lexington, KY a daughter of Shirley Jean Wyatt Plymale of Ashland and the late Ricky Allen Plymale. She was a graduate of Ceredo-Kenova High School, Class of 1998. Katie was a server for the Marshall Hall of Fame Café in Huntington, WV. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her two beloved children, Kamryn Elyce Finley and Kalen Allen Finley, they were the lights of her life and she was devoted to them. Additional survivors include her brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Dana Early of Ashland; her paternal grandparents, Richard and Jean Carver Plymale; her aunt, Lisa Jennings and her husband, John, all of Lexington, KY and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Katie’s smile would light up the room and she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. RAYMOND WILDER LITTLE, 85, of Huntington, former resident of Kenova, WV passed away on April 25, 2013 at the VA Medical Center. He was born on January 31, 1928, a son of Grover Cleveland and Myrtle Little. He was a US Army Veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Brenda Gail Little, his sister Thelma, and brothers: Bernard, Jim Bob, Grover "Zip" and Mack and 1 Grandchild, Tara, and 2 Great-grandchildren, Zoe and Chloe. He leaves behind his daughter Margaret and sons: Bernard, William, James and Kevin Little. Also surviving are 13 Grandchildren and 8 Great-grandchildren and his brother-in-law Harry Ferguson, Jim Bob’s wife Eileen and Mack’s wife Doris. Raymond was a Charter Member of the Kenova Volunteer Fire Department. REV. STEPHEN EDWARD JEFFREY, 65, of Kenova, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 25, 2013, at the VA Medical Center. He was born Dec. 3, 1947, in Huntington, a son of the late Newman N. and Leva Johnson Jeffrey. He is also preceded in death by three brothers, Newman Neal Jeffrey Jr., David Raymond Jeffrey and Phillip Jeffrey; and one sister, Patricia Jeffrey. He was retired from the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam War. He is survived by his wife, Maxine McKinney Jeffrey; sons, Stephen Edward Jeffrey II (Valerie) of Catonsville, Md., and Jamison Lee Jeffrey (Lisa Peana) of Huntington; sisters, Judith Ann Warfield, Little Hocking, Ohio, and Eva Delores Garrett of Buffalo, S.C.; brothers, Richard Delano Jeffrey, Washington, W.Va., John Jeffrey of Ona, James Kenneth Jeffrey, Denver, Colo., and Gerald Douglas Jeffrey of Barboursville; one grandson, Anthony Michael Jeffrey; and one granddaughter, Audrey Ann Jeffrey. BETTY JO SLOVER, 82, of the Kenova and Huntington areas of West Virginia, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday morning, April 28, 2013. She was born Aug. 16, 1930, in Jefferson County, Tenn., a daughter of the late Cora Esther Carroll Cochran and the late Thomas Maynard Cochran. Betty was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved talking on her CB radio, quilting and was a member of the Locust Grove Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters. She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband of 66 years, Charles Slover of Kenova, W.Va; a son David (Elizabeth) Slover of Jacksonville, Fla.; three daughters, Teresa (Robert) Chaffins of Richmond, Ky., Rhonda Simpson of Huntington, W.Va., and Kathy (John) Pirri of Bethesda, Md.; eight grandchildren, Mike Chaffins, Kristi Jones, Brad Slover, Elizabeth Darcy, Dr. Tamra Aman, Kevin Simpson, Tiffany Lockhart, Amanda Pirri; 13 great-grandchildren Mark Slover, Joseph Darcy, Hannah Darcy, Clay Chaffins, McKenzie Chaffins, Ashley Jones, Lake Jones, Cameron Jones, Aiden Simpson, Chloe Simpson, Sarah Aman, Joseph Aman and Thomas Aman; and a host of family and friends. Don is survived by his beloved former wife, Dixie Keeton; his parents, Bonnie and Mearlen Keeton; three brothers: Larry, Ronald and Paul Keeton; and sister, Donna Daniel; beloved daughters, Jennifer Oliver and Rachel Ainsworth and step-daughter Stacey Tufts; along with six grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. Also preceding her in death was her husband Charles C. Jameson, Jr., and two children, Charles Donald Jameson, David Coleman Jameson; three brothers, Thomas Hazelett, Martin Hazelett, Clyde Hazelett and two sisters, Odsie Wiley and Kathryn Batten. Mrs. Jameson was a member of Westmoreland United Methodist Church and was a beloved friend of East Pea Ridge Seventh Day Adventist Church. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy Ann Jameson and Negero Djaleta of Huntington; three granddaughters and spouses, Christina (Michael) Patterson, Tammy (Jerry) Dobbins, Diana Brubaker and Matthew Patterson; five grandsons: Cole, Mazi, Austin, Addison, and Andrew. In addition, one sister, Eva Hazelett Bess of Georgia and her children, Donna Jameson Mauro and husband Mike; James (Karen)Jameson and several other nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
