ROBERT GEORGE SUMMERS, 87, of Huntington, W.Va., formerly of Catlettsburg, Ky., passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, December 1, 2013. He was born July 14, 1926 in East St. Louis, Ill., a son of the late Cornelius Summers and Edna Davis Groves. His son Jeff Summers also preceded him in death along with two sisters, Ruby Walters and Marge DeBorak. Robert served in the United States Army and was a member of the American Legion. He leaves behind his wife, Bettie Jean Robinson Summers; one son, David Summers of Washington, Ind.; one daughter, Nancy Bass and her husband Paul Seymour, Tenn.; and two grandchildren, Andy Bass of Knoxville, Tenn., and Tabatha Summers of Jackson, Tenn. The family would like extend a special thanks the Robinson and Miller families for their continual care and love. Chapel services will conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 2013 at White Chapel Memorial Gardens with Paul Bass officiating. Johnson Tiller Funeral Home is proud to serve the Summers family.
GARLAND THOMAS MILLS, 83, of Kenova, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 1, 2013. He was born December 2, 1929 in Wayne County, W.Va., a son of the late Garland and Tennessee Adkins Mills. Garland retired from Coyne Textile after many years of service. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Kenova. In addition to his parents, Garland was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Waugh Mills; two brothers, Jesse and Whitley Mills and three sisters, Norma Adkins, Cindy Lester and Lena Mills. He is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Jo Mills and Dusty and Debbie Mills all of Kenova; many special nieces and nephews; his caregiver, Terry Steinert and a special friend, Betty Hazlett. Garland loved music and enjoyed a lifetime of both playing and listening to music. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at Rollins Funeral Home in Kenova. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. with Minister Joe Alley and Elder Joe Pratt officiating. Burial will follow in Woodmere Cemetery, Huntington, W.Va. ETHEL NAPIER PYGMAN, 90, of Chesapeake, Ohio, widow of Wilford R. "Hank" Pygman passed away Sunday December 1, 2013 at her residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 pm Thursday at the Reger Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Spring Valley Memory Gardens, Huntington. She was born August 24, 1923 in Wayne County, WV, a daughter of the late Pearley and Vicie Jane Adkins Napier. She was a data processor with Owens-Illinois. In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a brother Golden Napier and a sister Mary Napier. Survivors include her daughter Diane Fannin. JOSEPH DAVID CHAPMAN, 63, of Huntington, WV, passed away Monday, December 2, 2013 at his residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 6, 2013 at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, WV, with Pastor Carol McKay officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery at Wayne. He was born June 28, 1950 at Huntington, WV, a son of Joseph Franklin "Joe" Chapman of Lavalette, WV, and the late Ruth June Damron Chapman. David was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Viet Nam Era and was a member of the Lavalette United Methodist Church. An infant sister, Kathleen Chapman, also preceded him in death. Additional survivors include his sister, Kathryn June Sanders (Don) of Lavalette, WV; his niece, Kathy Jo West (Matt) of Poca, WV; his aunt, Daisy Damron of Wayne, WV; and special friends Cara Casey and her son Tyler of Huntington, WV. ALONZO "LONNIE" CLINTON BALL, 80, of Kenova passed away December 2, 2013. Funeral services will be conducted at the Ceredo-Kenova Funeral Home on Friday, December 6, 2013 at 7 p.m. with Pastor Ron Scarberry officiating; burial to follow at 2 p.m., Sunday, December 8, 2013 at Docks Creek Cemetery with full military honors performed by the American Legion Post 93 of Kenova, and the U.S. Navy. There will be no procession to the cemetery on Sunday. Visitation will be from 5 - 7 p.m. on Friday, December 6, 2013 at the funeral home. He was born September 13, 1933 in Logan, W.Va.; a son of Dewey and Zell (Elkins) Ball. Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents, sister Lorraine Williams and a special friend Inga Browning. He is survived by his sister Betty O'Keefe of Phoenix, Ariz., and four sons: Kenneth Ball, Dewey (Lesa) Ball of West, TX, Bill Ball and Danny (Rosetta) Ball. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Kassi (Michael) Lamere of Waco, TX, KC Ball and Austin Ball of West, TX, Tucker Ball and Faith Ball of Kenova, the mother of his children, Charlotte Lynn Ball and the first great-grandchild on the way that will be named, Bentley Ryan Lamere. AUDIE ADKINS JR. "PUG", 67, of East Lynn, W.Va., passed away Monday, December 2, 2013 at Wayne Nursing Home. He was born September 3, 1946, in Wayne County, W.Va., a son of the late Audie and Reba Adkins. He was preceded in death by his sister, Inez Adkins, five half brothers and six half sisters. He is survived by a son Audie Duane Adkins and a daughter, Teressa Ann; three granddaughters, Savanna, Jessie and Andra; three great-grandchildren; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Alice and Hughie Adkins of East Lynn, W.Va., with whom he made his home, Linda and Everett Dillman of Huntington, and Carolyn and Hanable Adkins of East Lynn, W.Va.; one brother and sister-in-law, Charley and Joyce Adkins of Wayne; brother-in-law Kermit Adkins; and many nephews, nieces, and friends. The family would like to thank the staff of Wayne Nursing Home for their care and kindness during his stay. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, December 7, 2013 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by the Rev. A.J. Perry and Rev. Garland Perry. RUTH E. COPLEY an 85 year-old native of Winchester, Tenn., longtime resident of Wayne County, W.Va., and current resident of Mobile, Ala., passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2013. She was a woman of deep faith and a lifelong member of the Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Copley was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Bob W. Copley. She is survived by two children, Fred W. Copley (Brenda) Huntington, W.Va. and Jill Copley Neubauer (Fred) of Mobile, Ala.; grandchildren, Alison Copley Neubauer, David Frederick Neubauer, Paul Michael Thompson and Jaime Renee Campbell; and great-grandchildren, Jacob, Joshua, Jared, and Emma Campbell. Graveside services and interment will be Thursday, December 5, 2013, at 2 p.m. in the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort, AL. BESSIE STAFFORD, 82, of Columbus, OH, died Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at Doctor West Hospital in Columbus, OH. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 am Sunday, December 8, 2013 at the House of Prayer on Ferguson Branch Road by Brother Everett Meddings. Burial will follow at Globel Browning Cemetery, Dunlow, WV. She was born August 29, 1931 in Pike County, KY, a daughter of the late Noah and Pricie Coleman Finley. Bessie was a homemaker. Also preceding her in death were two daughters, Goldie Decker, Yvonne Stafford; her twin sons, Ronald and Donald Stafford; a sisters, Opal Hill; and two brothers, George and Bobby Finley. Survivors include three daughters, Shirley Stafford of Largo, FL, Mona Janney and Yvette DeLong both of Columbus, OH; three sisters, Dicie Lemon of Hardy, VA, Doris Long of Grove City, OH, Glenna Smith of Crum, WV; three brothers, Noah Nelson Finley of Dunlow, WV, Jackie Finely of Genoa, WV, Roger Finley of Fort Gay, WV; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. LORAINE THOMPSON EDWARDS, 79, of Norris Fork Road, died December 4, 2013 at her residence. She was born at Norris, August 17, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Grayden and late Oklahoma Estep Thompson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Edwards, who died April 21, 1990. Survivors include her daughters, Daisy Young and husband Jim, of Chapman, Bonnie Edwards, of Norris Fork, and Darlene Jude, and husband, Randall of Thompson Fork. A grandson, Jasen Randall Jude and wife, Peyton of Thompson Fork Road, two great grandsons, David Albert Dean Jude, Eli Randall Jude and a step granddaughter, Gabriella Lynn Dotson. Funeral Services will be conducted 1:00 PM Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Spencer Freewill Baptist Church under the direction of Young Funeral Home, with Ronald Childers and Roger Ross officiating. Visitation will be at Spencer Freewill Baptist Church after 2:00 PM Friday, December 6, 2013. Burial will be in the Thompson Family Cemetery.
BURNICE BROOKS, age 81, of Canton, passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 in Aultman Hospital. He was born in Wayne, WV on January 16, 1932 to the late Bryan and Lizzie Brooks. Burnice retired from LTV Steel following over 40 years of employment. He was a member of the VFW #3747, American Legion #44, Amvets #124 and Eagle’s Aerie #2223. He enjoyed fishing and playing Keno. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Jean Brooks; four brothers, Berlie, Faine, Maxwell and Toad Brooks and two sisters, Irene and Margaret. Survivors include his sister, Doris; and several nieces and nephews. In honoring his wishes, there were no calling hours and graveside services were held on Friday at 1 pm in West Lawn Cemetery, with Pastor Timothy Prince officiating. WILMA FAYE SPAULDING, 72, of Wilsondale, W.Va. went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 5, 2013. She was born February 17, 1941 in Wilsondale, a daughter of the late Bun and Nora Carol Marcum. Wilma was a member of the Turkey Creek United Baptist Church and a lifelong homemaker. Also preceding her in death was her husband of 42 years, Homer Spaulding; one son, William Riley Spaulding; one daughter, Theresa Carol Spaulding Ayers; four sisters, Phyllis, Virginia, Emogene "Gene", and Lorene "Sis"; and four brothers, Lawrence, Dewey, Charles "Preacher", and Donald. She leaves behind four sons David and Debbie Spaulding, Homer Jr. and Theresa Spaulding, all of Wilsondale, Larry and Wynna Spaulding of Ruskin, Fla., and Henry Workman of Wilsondale; two daughters, Angela and Billy Ray Parsley of Huntington, W.Va., and Lisa and Arthur Baisden of Dingess, W.Va.; eleven grandchildren, Louie, Michelle, Jennifer (Mike), Ashley, Mikey, Adriene, Chris, Josh, Mitchell, Jacob, and Seth; five great-grandchildren, Gunner, Alexis, Jason, Austin, Serenity, Tanieca, Divinity, and Justice. Also surviving is a special daughter-in-law, Phyllis Rawlings; two sisters-in-law, Edna Marcum and Olena Marcum; brother-in-law Jethro Spaulding; and a special niece, Deborah Stroud. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 7, 2013 at the Turkey Creek United Baptist Church, Wilsondale with Pastors Emanuel Ferguson and George Nelson. WANDA LOUISE DAVIS, 86 of South Point, Ohio left this world for glory on Thursday, December 5, 2013, at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington, W.Va. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, December 21, 2013, at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, Ohio. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point, Ohio. Wanda was born August 14, 1927 in Wayne, W.Va., a daughter of the late Brady and Hattie Dawson Riggs. She was a member of Grace Gospel Church in Huntington, West Virginia. Since April 2013, Wanda resided, and was loved and well cared for at Morning Pointe Ridge Assisted Living in Russell, Ky. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband McRay "Mack" Davis and two brothers, James "Jim Bob" Riggs and Glen Riggs. Wanda is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Julie Davis of Proctorville, Ohio; one daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Bob Kirk of Ft. Worth, Texas; one sister, Atha Christian of Chesapeake, Ohio; one brother, Brady Riggs Jr., of Genoa, West Virginia.; four grandchildren, Meghan Kirk Tingley and husband Richard Tingley of Austin, Texas, Ben Kirk and Bryan Kirk of Fort Worth, Texas and Ethan Davis of Proctorville, Ohio; as well as one great-grandchild, Braiden Tingley of Austin, Texas. Wanda also had numerous special nieces and nephews across multiple generations and great friends too numerous to mention. DOLPHY WOODROW DICKERSON, Jr. 63, "For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted" Ecclesiastes 1-3. Dolphy walked through the gates of glory on December 6, 2013. He was born on July 6, 1950, the son of late Dolphy Woodrow Dickerson, Sr. and Nora Holbrook. He is preceded in death by his son Jimmie Dickerson, a sister Darlene Napier, and a niece Tammy Napier. Survivors include his loving wife Lora Lea (Mills) Dickerson whom he celebrated 40 years of marriage with this past year, daughter Katrina Nelson and her husband Scott, grandchildren Kiley and Logan Nelson, and sister Kathy Adkins (Leonard), three nephews Raymond Napier, Christopher Preece and Bryan Adkins, two nieces Rebecca Conley, and Amanda Preece and a great niece. He was a member of Spring Valley Freewill Baptist Church and a retired truck driver. Throughout his life's journey he faced many challenges. He was humble and grateful for the opportunities given to him by his Lord and Savior. In February 2010, after years of Heart Failure, Dolphy received a wonderful gift of life, a heart transplant. He was proud to advocate for organ donation and tell of his wonderful experience and new opportunities to all who would listen. He never missed an opportunity to praise The Lord for giving him such an awesome challenge and for the medical staff that The Lord provided. Dolphy leaves behind a legacy of smiles, determination, dedication, and a host of friends who he called family, some lifelong, some more recent. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at the Reger Funeral Chapel by Minister Bernie Riggs and Pastor Willis Mills. CARL RAY ADKINS, 70, of Scottown, Ohio, died Friday, December 6, 2013, in St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, December 9, 2013, at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie Salmons officiating. Burial will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. Carl was born January 11, 1943, in Wayne Co, W.Va., a son of the late Paul and Gladys Lawson Adkins. He was an avid coon hunter and loved to hunt with all his buddies. He will forever be in our hearts and he will be missed. Carl is survived by his wife, Elsa Dixon Adkins; son, David Adkins; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Mark Wood; grandchildren, Randy (Monica) Gobel, David Adkins, Jr., and Cameron Adkins; brothers, James B., Ray, and Asa Adkins; sister, Dorothy Daggett; and numerous nieces and nephews. DONALD H. ENIX, 77, of Huntington, WV, passed away Friday, December 6, 2013 at the St. Mary’s Medical Center. He was retired from Hostess Bakery in California and an Army veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents Bernie and Vesta Enix; three brothers B.C., Jerry and Charles; a sister Ruth and a son Norman Enix. He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years Bernice Enix; two daughters Suprina Moser (Tim) and Rebecca Mutters and her boyfriend Mark Snider; one son Donald C. Enix and his girlfriend Sherri Spurlock; two sisters Kay Robinson and Una Graves; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Private services will be held at a later date. WILLARD JACK MILLS, 81, of Ceredo, WV, passed away Friday, December 6, 2013 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, WV. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, WV, with Chaplain Randy White officiating. Burial will follow at the Mills-Vaughan Cemetery near East Lynn, WV. He was born September 10, 1932 on Peter Cave Road, Wayne, WV, a son of the late Burgess and Jenny Mills. He was retired from the U. S. Army after 20 years of service, as well as being a 20 year employee of the Huntington VA Medical Center. He was a member of the DAV, VFW Post 1064 and American Legion Post 93 who will conduct graveside rites. Three sons, Johnnie, Jack and Eddie Mills also preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Ardith Faye Sanders Mills; a daughter, Patricia Lynn Ripoll (Ignacio) of Virginia Beach, VA; a son, Noah Mills of Michigan; a sister, Virginia Mae Cornwell (Caroll) of Salisbury, NC; 5 brothers, Fred Mills (Hazel) of Wayne, WV, Kenneth Mills (Minnie) of Waxhaw, NC, Gene Mills of Salisbury, NC, Hobert Mills (Chris) of Columbus, OH, and Hubert Mills (Sharon) of Petersburg, VA; 5 grandchildren, Heather, Renee, Shawn, Jaclynn, and Christopher; and 6 great-grandchildren. WILMA J. HOLLAND COX, 76, of Genoa, W.Va., left this world of sorrow for a better place on Friday, December 6, 2013 at Wayne Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 9, 2013 at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, WV, by Elders Jesse Stiltner and John Perry. Burial followed at the Ollie Stiltner Cemetery on Napier’s Ridge. She was born January 14, 1937 at Genoa, WV, a daughter of the late George and Laura Fields Holland. She was a homemaker and member of the Comfort United Baptist Church. Her husband, Glen Roy Cox, step-mother, Ruby Parsons Holland, sister Ethel Holland and brother George Junior Holland, also preceded her in death. Survivors include her sons, Matthew Cox and Joseph Cox of Genoa, WV; 7 sisters, Ruth Moore of Louisa, KY, Pearl Mathis (Clarence, Jr.) of Wayne, WV, Helen Stickler (Richard) of Columbus, OH, Louise Keller of Cosby, TN, Lucille Jackson (Jimmy), Christina May Stroud (Paul), and Carolyn Christian, all of Genoa, WV; 6 brothers, Glen Roy Holland (Jeanette) and Donald Ray Holland (Patricia), all of Ashville, NC, Guff William Holland (Betty) of Asheboro, NC, Robbie Holland (Ruby), George Holland, Jr. (Earnestine), and Timothy Holland, all of Genoa, WV, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
SHIRLEY DARRELL McKEAND, 61, of Kenova, W.Va., passed away Saturday, December 7, 2013, in the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. Funeral services will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Thursday, December 12, 2013, at Rollins Funeral Home with Pastor Robert McKeand officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. Shirley was born April 23, 1952, in Kenova, a son of the late Shirley McKeand and Willa Jean Kelly Spicer. He was the owner of the Coney Island, Shirl & Kathy's and Miss Daisy's and he was a member of the Charity Freewill Baptist Church and was baptized August 4, 2013. Survivors include his beloved wife of 33 years, Kathy Burns McKeand; one son, Josh McKeand (Olivia) of Ashland; one daughter, Susan McKeand of Huntington; one brother, Trent Woods of Fernley, Nevada; three sisters, Betsy Robertson (Bill) of Tonapah, Nevada, Virginia Traster of Fernley, Nevada and Francis Reavis (Nevis) of Tonapah, Nevada; close friend Rodney Kinser; special cousin Keith McKeand; three cousins, Laverne Gray, Terri Gray and Savannah Slone; grandson Lyric Dean McKeand, and loving pets Chi Chi and Curly Toes. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. BRENDA GAY TOMBLIN, 60, of Kenova WV passed away on December 8, 2013. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at 2 PM at the Ceredo-Kenova Funeral Home with Minister John Holland officiating with visitation one hour prior to services; burial to follow at Maple Hill Cemetery. She was born on February 20, 1953 in Logan, WV, a daughter of the late Everett and Gladys (Messer) Richards. She was preceded in death by her husband James (Sherman) Tomblin; her daughters, Teresa Gay Finley and Rebecca Dawn Vannatter, and her brother Rick Richards. Brenda leaves behind to mourn her loss, her brothers: Freddie (Linda) Richards, Hayes Richards, David (Kathy) Richards and Greg (Angie) Richards and her sisters: Patricia (Phillip) McCoy, Barbara Maynard and Janice (Joe) Allen. Also surviving are her aunt, Lucy Elliot; and her two grandsons, Ryan Vannatter and John Morrison and many other friends. MARTHA VIOLA BROOKS, 71, of Genoa, W.Va., passed away Sunday, December 8, 2013 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. She was born April 26, 1942 in Wayne, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Tom and Gladys Adkins. Her sisters, Rosie Adkins, Ida Adkins, and Brookie Wiley also preceded her in death. Martha was a devoted wife and homemaker who never failed to express her love for her children with all her heart. She leaves behind her husband of 53 years, James Ray Brooks; five sons, Robert Brooks of Genoa, Toney Brooks and his wife Sheri of Sevierville, Tenn., Randy Brooks and his wife Rose of Cumming, Ga., Jimmie Brooks and his fiancé Ruthann Kilpatrick of Wayne, and Ray Brooks Jr. and his wife Sharon of Ga.; two daughters, Candace Furry and her husband Scott of Rock Hill, S.C., and Camma Myers and her husband Scott of Long Valley, N.J.; 12 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; special aunt and best friend, Bonnie Russell of Kingston, Oh.; and a host of friends and family too numerous to mention. JAMES EDWARD ROBERTSON, 87, of South Point, Ohio, formerly of Kenova, W.Va., husband of Wanda Jean Harris Robertson, passed away Sunday, December 8, 2013, in King's Daughters Medical Center, Ashland, Ky. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Reger Funeral Chapel by Pastor Carl Lilly, Pastor Jody Fortner and Pastor Willie May. Burial will follow in Rome-Proctorville Cemetery, Proctorville, Ohio. He was born October 17, 1926, in Genoa, W.Va., a son of the late Mike and Luverna Workman Robertson. He was a retired welder with 36 years of service with the Ohio River Company. James was a member of Sunshine Freewill Baptist Church and was a well-known gospel singer in the Tri-State area, and sang with the Melatone Quartet. He was a veteran of both the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son Thomas Edward and a sister Lois Lucille Robertson. Additional survivors include a son and daughter-in-law James Leslie and Connie Robertson of Proctorville, Ohio; grandson Aaron Robertson; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Charles Robertson of Kenova and Mackie and Angela Robertson of Huntington; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Juanita and Robert Chaffins of Fayetteville, N.C., Lorita O'Meara of Charlotte, N.C., and Dreama and David Klaiber of Summit, Ky., and several nieces and nephews. REXFORD MELLIE McCORMICK, 90, of Huntington, W.Va., formerly of Kenova, W.Va., passed away Sunday, December 8, 2013, at the Woodlands Retirement Community. Rex was born July 2, 1923, in Lincoln County, W.Va. He was one of 11 children born to the late Mellie Homer and Effie McClure McCormick. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Rex was a salesman, having worked in the auto industry and real estate. He was general manager of several dealerships, including Gallipolis (Ohio) Motors. He was owner of Rex McCormick Chevrolet in Kenova. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kenova and the C-K Rotary Club. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two wives, Jeane Eleanor Murray McCormick and Agnes Wanamacher McCormick and one son, Jerry Lee McCormick. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Judith McCormick Burks (Michael) of West Chester, Ohio; one son, John Michael McCormick of Kenova; four step-children; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and a special friend Lois Atkinson. PAULINE CHILDERS BELLOMY, 94, of Lakeland, Fla., passed away on December 9, 2013, at her residence due to natural causes. She was born on August 31, 1919, in Bowen, W.Va. She was preceded in death by her husband of 76 years Duard Wallace Bellomy; parents Lucetta Ray Childers Seay and Morris Eugene Childers; brother Vernon Carl Childers and sister Edith Childers Mancour. She is survived by her only child, Susan Bellomy. Her hobbies included golfing and bowling. She retired as a beautician in 1954, to become a housewife. She was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church since moving to Lakeland in 1965. She is also survived by nieces Bonny (Denny) Lynch, Sandra (Jayme) Roosen, Lucy Dorsey; nephew David (Debbie) Bellomy; great-nephews Philip Lynch, Tom (Debbie) Dorsey, Fred (Kim) Dorsey, Randy Dorsey and Johnny Paul Dorsey; great-nieces Dana (Michael) Allen, Gail (Bill) Banks, Lisa (William) Diamond, Joella (Charles) Hanlon and great-great-nieces Molly and Shelby Allen. DONALD HARVEY PRESTON, 74, beloved husband of Betty Sperry Preston of Kenova, W.Va., died on December 9, 2013, after a brief illness. He was born on October 22, 1939, in Wayne, W.Va., the son of the late Goodwin Wayne Preston and Nola Staley. Donald is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Susan (Mike) Rampley and two sons, Donnie Preston of North Carolina, and Robbie (Kristi) Preston of Kenova, and one granddaughter and grandson from North Carolina, Shelbi and Brock Preston, and two grandsons from Kenova, Taylor Cassidy and Dylan Preston. Also surviving are two brothers, Bernard Preston of Genoa, W.Va., and Jerry Preston of Kenova. Don retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a rural letter carrier. HARRY W. SMITH JR., was received into his heavenly home on Tuesday, December 10, 2013. He was born July 18, 1942, in Huntington, WV, to the late Harry W. Smith, Sr. and Vera Regenia Wyrick Smith. He was a member of the Lavalette United Methodist Church. Harry graduated from Wayne High School and Marshall University, continuing to faithfully support both schools' athletic programs. He was retired from Southwestern Community Action Council where he served as Executive Director. He was also employed by Newton Manufacturing Company as a sales representative. His brother and best friend Larry Eugene Smith and an infant brother, also preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Billie Marie Harris Smith, whom he honored with the perfect wedding anniversary gift by commemorating their blessed union with his journey home. He is also survived by four daughters, Missi Blatt (Michael) of Lavalette, W.Va., Michelle Daniels (Travis) of Chesapeake, Ohio, Jessica Hutchinson (David) of Charleston, S.C., and Brooke Hartman (Derek) of Huntington, W.Va. His surviving grandchildren are Lauren Blatt, Ethan Blatt, Ella Daniels, Christian Layne, Savannah Daniels, Ava Daniels and Claire Hartman. Harry is also survived by his sister Patricia Smith Stinnett of Lavalette and many other family members including his mother-in-law, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, nieces and countless lifelong friends. His sweet, shy nature and contagious sense of humor will be greatly missed by many. LOIDA LAHOZ CRUM'S earthly journey ended on Tuesday, December 10, 2013, as Spanish Angels escorted her to her Heavenly Home. She was born Loida Victoria Lahoz to Angel Lahoz and Eulalia ("Matita") Diaz on August 10, 1930, in Ponce, Puerto Rico, the second of seven children. She became a Christian at age 9 and was a very active Member of the Kermit (W.Va.) United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. She was a dedicated volunteer at Christian HELP in Kermit. She graduated from Ponce High School at the age of 16. She then attended State Teachers College in Farmington, Virginia for two years before transferring to Marshall College where she graduated in 1950 with a degree in Secondary Education. When in her mid-50's, with the assistance of her former students and friend Ann Copley, she returned to Marshall University, to attain her Master's in Education. She returned to her Ponce home where she taught one year, before being transferred for a vacancy for a Spanish Teacher at Crum High School in Wayne County. With the encouragement and support of a new friend she met at Marshall, Dortha Jean Stepp; she attained the position with Wayne County Schools and came to live in Kermit. She taught at Crum High School from 1951-1968. She met Leonard Crum, Jr., a WWII Veteran who resided in Kermit and taught at Crum. They married on December 31st, 1952. Their 39 year marriage produced four sons. Their careers took them to Mingo County Schools, Lenore High from 1968-1982 and then to Kermit High. They ended their careers at Tug Valley High. Loida retired in 1993. After a 16 year hiatus, she was contacted by Mingo County Schools to return to the classroom to teach Spanish. She accepted the offer and taught two more years, retiring a second time at the age of 81. Loida was preceded in death by her father Angel Lahoz; her mother Eulalia ("Matita") Diaz Lahoz; her youngest sister Angeles ("Yelli") Perez (39), all of Ponce, Puerto Rico. She was preceded in death by her husband Leonard Crum Jr., (64); her oldest son David Leonard Crum (47); and her second son Jimmy Dale Crum (54). She is survived by her oldest brother David Lahoz and her second sister Eunice ("Cuca") Lahoz; both of Ponce, Puerto Rico; her first sister Luz Betzaida ("Betty") Heins, Strongsville, Ohio; her second brother Angel ("Cuti") Lahoz Jr., Southwest Houston, Texas; her third brother Benjamin ("Cuco") Lahoz, Humble, Texas. She is survived by two sons, Mark Timothy Crum and John Michael Crum, both of Kermit, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Candance Thompson Crum, Laurel Creek, W.Va., Chase Thomas-Dale Crum, Kermit, W.Va., Austin David Leonard Crum and his brother Cameron John Lane Crum, both of Marrowbone, W.Va. Loida had six great-grandchildren. Services will be under the direction of Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home, Inez, Ky. Viewing will be at the Warfield Chapel from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, December 13, 2013. The funeral service will be held at the Kermit United Methodist Church on Cabell Street in Kermit at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2013. The Reverend Dr. L. Frank Frye and Pastor Brad Davis will be officiating. Special singing will be provided by Sister Therese Carew and the KUMC Choir. Pallbearers will include the grandchildren. My dear husband, JAMES N. CANADA Jr., entered his eternal rest on December 10, 2013 at my side as we both had prayed, when God called him home. ("To be absent in the body is to be present with the Lord." 2nd Corinthians 5:8) He was born at home on July 31, 1932 to James N. Canada Sr. and America Lucretia Canada. He was a 1950 graduate of Wayne High School and attended Marshall University. Jim’s first job was teaching grades 1 – 6 in a one room schoolhouse. In younger days, he liked to hunt, plow for neighbors and "tinker" with making things. He really had an engineering ability. He liked boating, building our log home and making many items on his wood lathe. He was well read (especially the Bible) and I considered him my "Renaissance Man". Jim served in the US Air Force for approximately 6 years and was stationed at So Ruislip USAF Base north of London, England. He began his insurance career in 1958 in Biloxi, MS. He became a sales manager in Ashland, KY and trainer. He later was promoted and became a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and District Manager for Metropolitan Life Insurance in Charleston. James retired in 1987, but continued to maintain an insurance license until age 80, the last being with Jackson National. James was a previous member of Bible Center Church and was currently a member of Calvary Baptist Church at Scott Depot. He is survived by his loving wife, Eloise Hanna Meadows Canada; children, Carol Sunderland and her husband, Donnie of Antioch, TN, James N. Canada III and his wife, Josefina of Midlothian, VA, Leslie Smith and her husband, Rodney, of Burlington, NC, and Paul Canada of St. Albans; stepchildren, Michael Meadows and his wife, Kris, of Brentwood, TN and J. Dart Meadows and his wife, Carol of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren and step grandchildren, Jared and Lydia Sunderland, Jennifer Canada, Jacinth, Katie and Gabe Smith, Chelsea, Taylor and Mason Meadows and James, Chase and Spencer Meadows. A celebration of Jim’s life was held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 13, 2013, at Casdorph & Curry Funeral Home, 110 B Street, St. Albans with Pastor Jeff Hurst presiding. Burial followed at Donel C. He was born January 1, 1937 in Dunlow, WV, a son of the late Jennings Browning and Jessie Wallace Napier. He was a retired bus driver for the Wayne Co. Board of Education. He was also preceded in death by two brothers; Jay and Charles Browning, sister; Anita Jarvis and two grandchildren; Isaac and Kaytlyn. Surviving is two sons; Dempsey Browning of Louisa, KY. and Charles Edward Browning of Fort Gay, WV. NAOMI F. CYFERS, 88, of Wayne, W.Va., formerly of Kiahsville, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 13, 2013. She was born July 16, 1925 in Kiahsville, a daughter of the late Charles and Hannah Fraley. Her husband Dennie Cyfers also preceded her in death, along with five brothers, Glen, Otis, Howard, Garland and Bernard and two infant brothers; two sisters, Joan Hensley and Faye Maynard; and a special aunt Gracie Young. Naomi was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She leaves behind one son, Dennie Allen Cyfers and his wife Janice of Kiahsville; four daughters, Hannah Marcum, also of Kiahsville, Ettie Jaynes of Kingsport, Tenn., Willodeen Mullikin and her husband Phillip of Richmond, Ky., and Shirley Adams of Wayne; nine grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. HAROLD CLIFTON NOE, of Wilmington, N.C., and formerly of Ashland, Ky, died Saturday, December 14, 2013, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He was born October 4, 1934 in Ranger, West Virginia, son of the late Harry Noe and Laura Sias Noe. Mr. Noe retired from Ashland Oil Refinery after thirty-five years of service. BURMAN NELSON, 84, of Huntington, passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2013 in Cabell Huntington Hospital surrounded by his family. Burman was born January 11, 1929 in Wayne County, WV, to Andrew Nelson and Clarcie (Queen) Nelson and was the last surviving child of this union. Burman retired from Owens Illinois after 41 years of service and was an active coon hunter. He was a member of the Philadelphia United Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his 3 brothers Steve, Richard and Lewis Nelson and 6 sisters: Arvilla Robertson, Dorothy Nelson, Marinda Craigo, Ida Carroll, Cora Walters and Northa Walters all of which he loved dearly. He is survived by his wife of 66 years Mary Pauline (Cosana) Nelson, three children Linda Sue (David)Lemons, Rinda Duncan, Burman Allen (Annie) Nelson. Ten grandchildren: David Nelson(Debbie) Lemons, Ronald Smith, Shane Smith, Leah Lemons, Mary Frances(Eddie) Pratt, Toni Hamilton, Johnny Kearney, Erin Kearney, Shane Kearney, Travis Kearney. 12 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild and a very special friend of the family Kay Spry as well as a host nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. ROBERT CHARLES MARTIN, 88, of Chesapeake, Ohio, passed away Sunday December 15, 2013 at Cabell Huntington Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years Lenita Pearl Gothard Martin. Bob was born December 31, 1924, in Huntington, W.Va., a son of the late James E. Martin Sr., and Thelma Poulton Craig. In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, James Jr., Donald Lee and Harry Russell and one sister, Cora Mae Scott. Survivors include his two children, Nancy Sue Samples and Craig Nelson Martin. Bob worked at some good jobs in his time including electric welder in a ship yard in Baltimore, Md., railroad brakeman, policeman on the Huntington Police Department and over 17 years in the oil trade. He was a district supervisor when he had to retire in 1996 because of health reasons. He served five years in the U.S. Marine Corps, was discharged as a Sergeant with the Presidential Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal and expert Rifleman Badge. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Reger Funeral Chapel. Bob will be buried beside his wife in Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington. REBECCA MUNCY HOLLAND, 81, of Ceredo died on December 15, 2013. She was born on November 29, 1932, the daughter of the late Cecil Muncy and Grace Emogene Clay. CHARLES EVERETT LeMASTER, 92, of Ceredo, W.Va., passed away Monday, December 16, 2013, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the Reger Funeral Chapel by Pastor Jamie Gump and Chaplain Pablo Gonzales. Burial will follow in Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington. Charles was born June 15, 1921, in Huntington, W.Va., a son of the late Deide LeMaster and Ora Coates LeMaster. He was preceded in death by Betty Lou Sexton LeMaster, to whom he was married for 58 years. He had one brother, Irvin J. LeMaster, born February 25, 1923, in Huntington, W.Va., who was killed in Germany in 1945 while serving in the Army in WWII. He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Ben Chambers; two granddaughters, Cara (Chuck) Donohoo and Patricia (Larry) Blake; five great-grandchildren, Matt and Candice Ward, Cory and Ginger Donohoo and Kayla Blake; two great- great-grandchildren, Mason Lee Ward and Carrigan Lee Ward and his dear friend Jean Littlejohn. Charles graduated from Vinson High School, where he was the football captain. He had a 34-year career in life insurance management and he was a member of the Madison Avenue Christian Church, where he served as an elder. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during WWII. He served with the 1636 Construction Engineers Battalion in Central Europe. The 1636th crossed the Rhine River on a pontoon bridge and was in the middle of Germany when the war ended on May 5, 1945. Among the various medals he received were the Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Army of Occupation Medal with Germany Clasp, European-African-Middle-Eastern Campaign Medal with Bronze Star and a certificate in appreciation for liberating France. After WWII he served as Sergeant 1st Class with the C Battery of the 468th Field Artillery Army National Guard of WV. He was a life member of both VFW Post 1064 of Huntington and the American Legion Post 93 of Kenova. He was a Master Mason with Crescent Lodge #32 AF&AM of Ceredo for over 61 years. He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason in the Valley of Huntington. Charles was a Kentucky Colonel and an Admiral in the Cherry River Navy. He was a volunteer at the Huntington VAMC, where he was known as "the iceman" and volunteered more than 7,000 hours. He was the "Volunteer of the Year" in 2009. MARY LORRAINE PRATT FOSTER, beloved mother and grandmother, resident of Newport News, went to be with our lord on December 22, 2013 while at her home in Newport News. She was born in Ceredo, West Virginia and lived most of her adult life in Hampton and Newport News. She was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Hampton. She worked for many years as a telephone operator for both civil service and private companies prior to retiring. Her greatest joy was motherhood. She raised her three daughters with love and devotion and was always ready with concern and a sympathetic ear for them. She was a talented seamstress who would spend countless hours making fine quality clothing for her daughters and later for her grandchildren. She was an excellent cook who made decades of delicious meals and desserts. She loved gardening and caring for her beautiful coral azaleas. She never lost her love for the simple pleasures in life like the joy of feeling the warm sun on her face. But most of all, she loved her family. Her passing leaves a void never to be filled. She will be eternally loved, forever missed and never forgotten. Lorraine is preceded in rest by her parents, Luther Martin Pratt and Anna Marie Bolt Pratt, her sisters Laurie Pratt Adkins, Helen Pratt Jobe, Margaret Pratt Booth, Wanda Lee Pratt Maynard and her brother Frederick Pratt. MARY KATHRYN PELFREY, 74 of Wadsworth, formerly of Creston, died Monday, December 23, 2013 at Magnolia Village in Wadsworth following a period of declining health. Mary was born April 6, 1939 in Fort Gay, West Virginia to the later Herbert and Sarah (Lloyd) Rickey and she married Leonard Pelfrey on July 26, 1958. Leonard preceded her in death on November 8, 2001. Mary attended Gerber Beauty School and operated her own Beauty Salon in Rittman for many years. In her younger years she enjoyed participating with the Wadsworth Footlighters. She also enjoyed doing crafts and quilting. Mary previously lived in Creston but recently had made her home at the Inn at Coal Ridge in Wadsworth. Mary loved children, especially her nieces and nephews. Surviving are her daughter, Lori (Greg) Slater; and grandson, Adam; her brothers and her sister, Clyde Rickey, Robert Darrell (Virginia) Rickey, Ruth (William) Richmond, Larry (Karen) Rickey and Roger (Brenda) Rickey and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews that truly loved her. BONNIE SEXTON, 96 of South Point, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2013, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, W.Va. Bonnie was born June 13, 1917, in Wayne County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Andrew and Mary Stafford Foster. She was the owner / operator of the BonTon Restaurant. In addition to her parents, Bonnie was preceded in death by her husbands William Tommy Johnson, Jay Carter and William Sexton and also by her oldest, beloved granddaughter Bonnie Hendershot in 2004 and eight brothers and sisters. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Johnny W. and Francoise Johnson of Gallipolis, Ohio; five grandchildren and their spouses, Jesse L. Johnson, Matthew W. (Sue) Johnson, Roseanne Johnson, Paul D. (Shonda) Johnson, John B. (Jocey) Johnson and step-granddaughter Leora (Edwin) Bock. She is also survived by ten great-grandchildren, one great- great-grandchild and one sister, Vivian Hibsman of Jackson, Ohio. Bonnie was a member of the Nazarene Church at South Point, Ohio and a former employee of the Sylvania Corporation. She was widely traveled in the United States and loved to drive. She never knew a stranger and loved children and loved to help others. She was a devoted grandmother, great-grandmother and mother, as well as a devoted sister to her nine siblings. She is survived by two daughters, Reda Mae Passano of Quantico, Mayple (Homer) Wooten of Wayne; four sons, Lee (Gwendolyn) McComas of Akron, Oh., Amon (Diane) McComas of Baltimore, Md., Richard (Alesha) McComas of New Mexico, and Howard (Charlott) McComas of Hebron, Md. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren who will miss her very much; and numerous friends and neighbors. HARRY T. MAYNARD, 60 of Dunlow, West Virginia passed away Thursday, December 25, 2013 at his home. He was born on January 24th, 1953 in Kermit, West Virginia to the late Cain Maynard and Mammie Johnson. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters, Tempie and Nanna Faye. Harry is survived by his wife, Judy Gail Maynard, two children, Cain D. (Mara) Maynard of Kermit, West Virginia and Misty Maynard of Dunlow, West Virginia and two grandchildren, Austin Maynard and Gavin Maynard. JOSEPH AD BRADSHAW, 80, of Wheelersburg, Ohio, died Thursday, December 26, 2013 at SOMC Hospice. Born April 24, 1933 in Wayne, West Virginia, a son of the late Austin and Nannie Ball Bradshaw, he was retired from New Boston Coke Plant and was a Del Rice umpire for many years. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Charlene Runyon Bradshaw; three daughters, Pam Bradshaw, Debbie Bradshaw and Linda (Jeff) Oppy; four grandchildren, Josh Bradshaw, Scott Oppy, Chris (Balinda) Oppy, and Jessi Oppy; five great grandchildren, Bryan Richmond, Cammy Bradshaw, Sophia Oppy, Levi Oppy and Brooklyn Bradshaw, and one sister, Thelma Lee Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Bill Bradshaw, Paul Bradshaw, and Ned Bradshaw, and four sisters, Cory, Franklin, Mona and Gena. DAVID MICHAEL MAHON, 52, of Kenova, WV passed away on December 28, 2013. David was born on December 18, 1961 in Cabell County, WV; the son of Hallie and Phyllis Mahon. David was a transport driver for Safe Light Auto Glass. His passion was baseball. He was a wonderful baseball player, along with his brother Thomas. He was a great fan of Marshall, Dallas Cowboys and the L.A. Dodgers. He was a sports fan thru and thru. David was a Christian and attended Christ Temple Church. EMILY O'DELL WHEELER, 79, of Kenova, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 31, 2013. She was born October 1, 1934, in Kenova a daughter of the late John Cameron and Mary Farley Wheeler. Through the years Emily worked for IGA, Mid-City Motels and most recently for the Potpourri. She was a member of American Legion Post 93 Kenova Auxiliary. Emily loved children and spent 64 years caring for them in the nursery of Kenova United Methodist Church where she was a member. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Mellington A. Wheeler, a son John Cameron Wheeler and sisters Sarah Goetz, Vivian Hudson and Nancy Fitzgerald. She is survived by her loving children, two sons and one daughter-in-law, Mark and Lisa Wheeler of Dover, Ohio and Mike Wheeler of Kenova; one daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Rob Millne of Kenova; her grandchildren Doug Powers, Matt and Crystal Wheeler, Rob Millne, Erin Wheeler and Kristin Hayes; great-grandchildren Darby Powers, Colt Powers and Cam Wheeler; a sister-in-law Janice Kates of Hurricane, W.Va.; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends who will miss her.
