REX BRIAN BOWERS, 68, Major, U. S. Army Retired, of Lavalette, died May 1, 2015 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House after a long illness. He was preceded in death by his wife Lorelei-Lee Stepheny Bowers. Rex was born in Hagerstown, Md., though he graduated from Vinson High School and Marshall University. He participated in ROTC and served as a captain in the U.S. Army with the 2/34 Armor in Tay Nihn and the 3/5 Calvary in the Dong Ha Republic of Vietnam from 1970-1971. Rex also worked in donor resources at Red Cross, for Cabell County EMS, and for the Lavalette fire department as a volunteer fireman. Rex wanted to acknowledge his generous friends Cathy Brandt, Debbie and John Rickman, Patricia Robertson, Shayne Watts and Susan Hamilton. Rex has donated his body to the Marshall Medical School. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice of Huntington, 1101 6th Ave., Huntington, WV 257099. A memorial service is being planned at a later date. He will be greatly missed.
DOROTHY H. NAPIER, 84, of Fort Mill, S.C.,
formerly of Kenova, W.Va., passed away Friday, May 1, 2015,
in the Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, S.C. Funeral services will be
conducted 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at the First Baptist Church of Kenova
of which she was a member with Pastor Steve Willis officiating. Interment will
follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Kenova. Dorothy was born May 22, 1930, in
Lawrence County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Clifford and Maida Sammons
Hammond. She was a bridal consultant with Anderson-Newcomb and a member of the
Saints Alive Choir. Besides her parents she was also preceded in death by her
beloved husband Charles E. Napier; her eldest son Charles "Chuck" E. Napier Jr.;
two brothers and four sisters. Survivors include her daughter with whom she made
her home, Sheila Napier Lester of Fort Mill, S.C.; a son James R. Napier of
Houston, Texas; daughter-in-law Beth Graves of Charlotte, N.C.; and four
grandchildren, Jonathan D. Lester, Amanda L. Mader, Nicholas Napier and Charles
Lee Napier. Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at the

LARRY JOE ROSS, 73, of Huntington, W.Va., passed away Monday, May 4, 2015, at the VA Medical Center, Huntington. He was born December 3, 1941, in Wayne County, West Virginia, son of the late Nathan and Maude Kitchen Ross. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Linda Gaye Manns Ross; two sisters, Mildred Black and Erma Lee Berlt; and two brothers, Cecil Ross and Melvin Ross. He was a retired electrician from CSX and a member of IBEW. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He is survived by his wife Claudia Ross; son Larry Joseph Allen Ross of Huntington; stepson Joseph (Bev) Mundy of Huntington; four grandchildren, Lakotah Ross, Sierra Mundy, Katie Jo Mundy and Jobie Mundy; three brothers, Gary (Janice) Ross, Mike (Leann) Ross, and Roger (June) Ross; five sisters, Loretta Hicks, Pat (K.O.) Bowles, Sue (Larry) Bell, Kay (Larry) Hamlin and Vonnie (Kenny) Rigney; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be conducted 6 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2015 at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, Ohio, with his family officiating and the VFW Post 6878, Proctorville, Ohio, closing with military rites. COLLIS EMMETT TOOLEY, of West Hamlin, W.Va., born June 3, 1944, passed away May 4, 2015, at Huntington Health and Rehabilitation Center at the age of seventy years, eleven months and one day. He was the son of the late Charles Edgar and Ina Adkins Tooley and was also preceded in death by one daughter, Teresa Tooley McCoy; one granddaughter, Nikki McCoy Adkins; four brothers, James Parsons, Blaine Tooley, Bryce Tooley, Clyde Tooley; and one sister, Vonnee Bernard. He was a member of the Silver Haired Legislature. He is survived by his wife Janet (Adkins) Tooley of West Hamlin; one daughter, Jeanetta (Anthony) Vance of West Hamlin; two sisters, Erma Lee (Curtis) Adkins of Huntington and Betty (Gary) Cooper of Brook Park, Ohio; son-in-law Nick McCoy of West Hamlin; sister-in-law Violet Tooley of Wayne; brothers-in-law David Adkins of Hamlin and Gary Adkins of Cleveland, Ohio; four grandchildren, Emily McCoy, Abigail Vance, Colton Emmett Vance and Kaitlyn Eplin; one great-grandchild, Brooklynn McCoy; best friend Dexter Childers and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2015, at Koontz Funeral Home, Hamlin, W.Va., with Elder Jonah Adkins officiating. Interment will follow at Miller Cemetery, Sweetland, W.Va. MARTHA BLOCK, 90, of Louisa, Ky., went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 4, 2015. She was born February 9, 1926 in Mingo County, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Lafe and Elizabeth Block. Her husband Clifford Block also preceded her in death along with five brothers, Mosie, Charlie, George, Gideon, and John, and three sisters, Handy, Loutisha, and Liz. Martha was a member of the Church of God at Sarah Ann. She leaves behind two daughters, Cathy Sizemore and her husband Jim of Louisa, and Joann Belt and her husband Johnny of Calhoun County, W.Va.; seven grandchildren, Buddy, Kenneth, Donnie, Timothy, Anthony, Kristina, and James Jr.; and three great grandchildren, Lacy, Hunter, and Carter. Also surviving is one sister, Jessie Finley and her husband George of Branchland, W.Va.; three brothers, Jack Block of Crum, W.Va., Lafe Block, and Robert Block, both of Branchland; and a host of family too numerous to mention. Funeral services will be conducted at noon on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at the Old Yellow Church at Jennie’s Creek. Burial will follow in the Block Family Cemetery. CRETA ILENE RIDDLE, 83, of Huntington, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 4, 2015. She was born April 18, 1932 in Huntington, a daughter of the late Henry and Louraina "Lou" Fortner. Also preceding her in death were four sisters, Ethel, Jeannie, Opal, and Juanita; and her husband Claude Earl Riddle. Ilene was retired from the Methodist Hospital of Indianapolis, Indiana. She leaves behind one brother, Harold Fortner and his wife Debra; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2015 at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home with Pastor Scott Chandler officiating. Burial will follow in the Hatten Newman Cemetery near Prichard. Friends may call after 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
LOU VERNA PERRY, 79, of Dunlow, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 9, 2015, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, with Brother Jess Allen officiating. Burial will follow at Community Memorial Gardens, Wayne. Lou Verna was born on September 14, 1935, in Dunlow to the late Mart Mills and Lona Wallace Mills. She was a homemaker and a member of Fairmount United Baptist Church. Surviving is her loving husband Wetzel Perry; one son, Wetzel P. Perry and wife Rhonda of Huntington, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Nichole Sanders and husband Tai, Ashlea Meadows and husband Wayne, Jordan Perry and Conner Perry and wife Victoria. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, Olivia and Grant Sanders, Rylee, Chance, Shayne and Hunter Meadows and Aurora and Sophia Perry. Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
DEANNA ROBERTSON, age 73, passed Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at her home in Fort Gay West Virginia surrounded by her husband and kids. Mrs. Robertson was born September 7, 1941 in Louisa, KY, the daughter of the late Oliver "Coon" and the late Effie (Crabtree) Mounts. She was a Homemaker, Cosmetologist and had a passion for making quilts. She is survived by her Loving husband Delbert Robertson whom she married on January 17, 1959. Also five daughters: Lisa (Jesse) Young of Strawberry Plains, TN, Susie (Greg) Damron of Fort Gay, Pam Ferguson of Louisa, Debbie (Garry) Tackett of Paintsville and Brenda Campbell and Husband Chuck of Catlettsburg Ky. Also surviving are two sons: Danny Robertson and wife Tina of Catlettsburg and Delbert Jr Robertson and wife Nellie of Louisa,Ky. Mrs. Robertson also leaves behind 16 Grandchildren and 14 Great- Grandchildren. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a son, Tommy Robertson. Funeral Services were conducted 11:00 am on Saturday May 9, 2015 at the Wilson Funeral Home Louisa Ky. Burial followed in the Robertson Cemetery in Fort Gay, West Virginia. Rev. Tom Kitts officiated. IRIS JOAN KIRK NELSON, 86 of Kenova, W.Va., passed away Thursday, May 7, 2015, at Cabell Health Care Center in Culloden. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, May 11, 2015, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel by Brother George Nelson. Burial will follow at Greasy Ridge Cemetery, Dunlow, W.Va. She was born July 8, 1928, in Wayne County, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Noah and Della Moore Kirk. Iris was a homemaker. Her husband Oscar Nelson also preceded her in death, along with two sons, Michael Nelson and Daniel Nelson; and two great-granddaughters, Kacy Sleasman and Kaisley Meddings. Survivors include a daughter Debra Nelson Meddings of Kenova, W.Va.; a sister Joyce Kirk Nelson of Dunlow, W.Va.; six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great- great-grandchildren. PHYLLIS ANN QUEEN, 75, of Wayne, W.Va., peacefully joined her Lord and Savior at her home on Friday, May 8, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 10, 2015, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Roger Maynard officiating. Burial will follow at Community Memorial Gardens, Wayne, W.Va. She was born March 24, 1940, in East Lynn, W.Va., a daughter of the late Jennings Crockett and Esther Adkins Mann. Phyllis was a homemaker, loving mother and grandmother. Her unselfish way of life allowed many to benefit from her kindness and compassion. She was a true matriarch of unconditional love. Her husband Philip Queen also preceded her in death, along with a son Jeffrey Alan Queen; a grandson Corey Alan Queen ; and a sister Marlene Dean. Survivors include three sons, Danny Queen and wife Angie, Michael Scott Queen, Steve Queen and wife Jodie, all of Wayne, W.Va.; a daughter-in-law Tina Queen of Wayne, W.Va.; a sister Patty Gilliam and husband Ronald of Wayne, W.Va.; a brother Kenny Legnasky of Mannington, W.Va.; five grandchildren, Ashley Blankenship, Kelsey Queen, Keith Queen, Dakota Queen, Brailey Queen; two great-grandsons, Coltyn Davis and Brayden Blankenship, two very special children in her life, "Hudson" and "Charlie Bell," a special caregiver, "Mamaw Barb," and a life-long sister Betty Queen. OWEN HANEY, Jr., 81, of Dunlow, WV, went to meet Jesus on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, WV surrounded by his family and loving wife of 51 years, Loretta Faye Prince Haney. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 13, 2014 at the Fairmount United Baptist Church at Dunlow, WV. Burial will follow at the Haney Hill Cemetery at Dunlow. He was born October 7, 1933 at Breaholm, WV, a son of the late Owen and Minerva Perry Haney. Owen was a retired teacher for Wayne County Schools, having taught at both Crum and Tolsia High Schools. He was a U. S. Army Veteran. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Lilemon Ferguson, brothers Allen, Gid, Bill, Arland, Sampson and Hobert and sisters Amanda and Shirley. Survivors include his wife, Loretta Fay Prince Haney; daughters Debbie Haney Evans (Bill), Roase Mary Ferguson; sons Owen Jay Haney (April), Earl Michael Haney (Crystal), and his children from a previous marriage Rhonda Barker Haney and Leonard Francis Haney, grandchildren Eric Shawn Hundley (Kelly), Deborah Hundley Ferguson, Christina Faye Shannon (Christopher), Gregory William Haney (Chrissy), Bill Evans, Jr. (Kayla), Loni Jae Moore (Jonathan), and Crystalyn Canterbury (Lloyd); and great-grandchildren, Whitney, Eric Jr., Racheal, Bella, Kashlor, Hudson, and Jaedelyn. Owen Haney, Jr. was a kind, loving man whose hearts desire was that everyone knew that he loved them. He spent his entire life working to provide for his family. He truly loved the title of papaw and all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Owen gave his life to the Lord on December 21, 2014, and lived the remainder of his life serving him with a big smile on his face. He will be sadly missed by his many friends and family who love him so much. RONALD "RONNIE" BALL, 56, of Rittman, OH passed away unexpectedly on Sunday May 10, 2015 at his home following a sudden illness. Ronnie was born October 2, 1958 in Wadsworth, OH to the late Howard and Gladys (Robertson) Ball. He married Belinda Marcum on June 22, 2002 and she survives. He had worked at D & R Industries in Wadsworth and Sandridge food Corp. in Medina and had made his home in Rittman for the 15 years, previously residing in Prichard W.Va. He had enjoyed playing music, especially Country and Bluegrass and had played with several bands and with friends. He enjoyed putting model cars together. He is survived by his wife Belinda; brothers, Marvin (Judy) Ball of Barberton, OH William (Jean) Hale of Wayne W.V. Ernie (Phyllis) Ball and Randall (Delana) Ball both of Kenova W.Va.; sister-in law, Zella Ball of rittman, OH and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers, Lowell and Wallace Ball and sisters, Joyce and Carol Ball. Funeral Services will be Thursday at 12:00 Noon at Murray Funeral Home in Creston, OH with the Rev. Glenn Griffith officiating. Burial will be at Rittman Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
BLANCHE DAMRON, 94, of Kenova, W.Va., loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 10, 2015, at St. Mary's Medical Center, Huntington, W.Va. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 14, 2015, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, WV, with Elders Don Napier, Kiah Williamson and Ray Williamson officiating. Burial will follow at Community Memorial Gardens, Wayne. Her grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers. Blanche was a long-time faithful member of the Philadelphia United Baptist Church. She was born October 28, 1920, in Wayne County, a daughter of the late Ell and Nora Finley. She was a devoted and loving wife for 69 and a half years to the late Cullie Damron. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Janie Mathis and Myrtle Jenkins, and three brothers, Erastus, Edgar and Brady Finley. Survivors include two sons, Larry (Sue) Damron, and Lowell (Carol) Damron, all of Chesapeake, Ohio; two daughters, Barbara (Lindsey) Queen of Kenova, W.Va., and Patricia (Darrell) Williams of Lavalette, W.Va.; eight grandchildren, Debbie Bailey, Gina Queen, Eric Damron, Tammy Morris, Melissa Morrison, Jennifer Dean Rachel Mitchell and Joe Williams; 15 great-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, as well as several beloved step-grandchildren. Mother was a friend and inspiration to everyone who knew her. She will be missed by all. She will now find peace and rest when she joins our Dad in heaven. NANCY ELIZABETH FRALEY, 81, of Wayne, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 11, 2015 at Three Rivers Medical Center in Louisa, KY. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne with Pastor Danny Stapleton officiating. Burial will follow in the Finley Cemetery, East Lynn, WV. She was born on March 21, 1934, in Wayne, WV, to the late Everette Watts and Spicey Dingess Watts. Nancy was a Baptist by faith and was a caretaker at Fair Haven Rest Home in Huntington, WV. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Jake Fraley, brother Ira Watts and two sisters Martha Simms and Sarah Copley. Surviving is her daughter Sandra Hitchcock and husband Ricky of Ceredo, WV, two sons Phillip Michael Lovins and wife Teresa of Kenova, WV, and Gary Henderson Lovins, sister Anise Bates and husband Teddy of Wayne, WV, numerous grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
DORIS SMITH JOHNSON, 86, of Kenova, W.Va., passed away Monday, May 11, 2015, in the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday, May 14, 2015, at the First Baptist Church of Ceredo, of which she was a member with Pastor Rodney Hale officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Kenova. She was a retired LPN and had worked at both Cabell-Huntington Hospital and St. Mary's Medical Center. She was born August 6, 1928 in Wayne County a daughter of the late Golden Smith an the late Drucilla Smith Bias. Besides her parents she was also preceded in death by her beloved husband Albert Jay Johnson, three brothers and one sister. She was also preceded in death by the father of her children James E. Stewart. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law Lynn and Robert Watts of Kenova; one son and daughter-in-law Michael and Cynthia Stewart of Kenova; one grandson and his wife Charles Eastham (Susan) of Ceredo; three great grandsons; one great granddaughter and a host of nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank a special cousin and her husband, Rae and Wendell Parsons and their son Jason for their love and care during this time. JAMES D. WALTERS, 85, of Ceredo, W.Va., passed away on Monday, May 11, 2015, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, W.Va., surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born January 4, 1930, in Kenova, W.Va., a son of the late George Donovan and Iva Mae Billups Walters. He was a graduate of Ceredo Kenova High School, then served his country in the U. S. Air Force. He married the love of his life, Dolores Hope Walters and together they raised five children and shared 64 years of marriage. Jim was an avid aviator and spent many years flying. He was a life long member of the First Congregational Church of Ceredo. He retired from South Point Ethanol where he had been a plant operator. He loved his family and enjoyed the times they shared together whether it was sitting around the house talking and telling stories, celebrating birthdays, or some other accomplishment by one of his children or grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by one son, Jolliffe "Jolly" Edward Walters. He is survived by his beloved wife, Hope, and his cherished children, James "Jim" Donovan Walters and his wife, Bernetta "Bernie" of White Lake, Michigan; Patti Jones and her husband, Chuck of Huntington; Kenneth "Kenny" Walters and his wife Rochelle "Richie" of Ceredo; and Tamara "Tammy" Walters of Miami, Florida. Also surviving are his much loved grandchildren, James Matthew Walters and his wife, Anne, Bradley Dale Wright, Brian Alan Walters, Jeremy Michael Walters and his wife, Bianca, Jad Anthony Walters and his wife, Erin, James "Jamie" Patrick Walters, Dylan Smith, Morgan Hope Baskin and Vanessa McKenzie Bartholomew. His special great grandchildren, Lauren Hope Walters, Natalie Marie Walters, Max Walters, Hannah Rhys Walters, Cadin Michael Walters, Jace Makai Walters and Griffin Patrick Walters; one brother, John Franklin Walters and his wife, Linda of Huntington and two nephews, George Walters and Daniel Walters. RICHARD LANE ATKINS, 64, of Genoa, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord Monday, May 11, 2015 at his home with his wife and daughter by his side. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 15, 2015 at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, WV, with Minister Jeff Ross officiating. Burial will follow at the Atkins Family Cemetery at Genoa. He was born August 2, 1950 in Huntington, WV to the late Raymond Atkins and Joan Preston Atkins. Richard worked for the WV Department of Highways for 20 years until retirement. He belonged to the Radnor Church of Christ for 45 years. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his infant son, Richard Lane Atkins, Jr., grandparents Millard and Ersie Preston, Raymond and Lonie Atkins, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Oscar and Nancy Robinson, brother-in –law, Elmer Dee Robinson. Surviving is his loving wife of 46 years, Amy Atkins, and daughter Jennifer Atkins of Genoa; brothers Ronald Atkins of Wayne, Donald Atkins (Kitty) of Huntington, WV, Stevie Atkins (Okle) of Radnor, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Katherine Adams (Orville) of Portsmouth, OH, Delmer Robinson of Genoa, Annalou Ferguson (Emanuel) of Huntington, Denver Robinson (Donna) of Genoa, Judy Osborne (Bill) of Genoa, Shirlene Morgan (Ernie) of Wilsondale, WV, Zyndale Robinson (Bonnie) of Radnor, Anita Salmons of Dunlow, Jimmy Robinson (Pauletta) of Dunlow, Alene Robinson of Genoa. DALLAS ROBINSON, 72, of Fort Gay, WV, husband of Irene Parsley Robinson passed away May 11, 2015 at Kings Daughters Hospital in Ashland, Ky. He was born in Fort Gay, WV on August 5, 1942 a son of the late Edgar and Mona Thompson Robertson. He was preceded in death by one sister, Judy Adkins, 6 brothers, Harold Ray, Jackie, Lanny Dale, Teddy Lee, and Paul Robertson, all of Fort Gay, WV and Edgar Robertson Jr. of Mansville, Ohio. Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Irene Parsley Robinson; one sister, Darlene Sluss of Prichard, WV; several special nieces and nephews and several special friends. DENVER LEO PHILLIPS, 48, of Huntington, passed away on Monday May 11, 2014 at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 pm Saturday at the Reger Funeral Chapel by Pastor Keith Wiebe, Jr. Burial will follow in Docks Creek Cemetery, Kenova, WV. He was born July 6, 1966 in Huntington, a son of Ronald Lee and Patty Lou Langdon Phillips. Leo was a veteran of the US Navy, entering the service on August 26, 1986. He spent 10 years on a Submarine Service Fleet. During his time in the service Leo was awarded the Kuwait Liberation Medal and a Meritorious Unit Commendation with one Bronze Service Star for his service during the Persian Gulf War. He graduated from Huntington High School and attended Grace Gospel Church and was an employee of the Huntington VA Medical Center. DOROTHY THOMSON BARRINGER, 97, slipped away on May 13, 2015, to join her God and her family for a wonderful reunion in Heaven. She was born on Dec. 22, 1917, to Charles and Leah Thomson in Kenova, W.Va. She was a very beautiful younger woman, who loved to play tennis and swim. Dorothy graduated from Marshall University in 1939, where she majored in physical education and was president of her sorority. Dorothy married the love of her life, Joe Barringer, on Sept. 7, 1940. They lived near St. Louis, where he was a flight instructor at Park Air College. He was killed in a plane crash in the Himalayan Mountains on Jan. 7, 1945, while serving in the Army Air Force. Their only child, Jo Barringer, was born on April 26, 1945. Dorothy taught at Ft. Lauderdale High School for 25 years, and belonged to a teachers' group, Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a very independent lady. A lot of her time and energy were spent raising her daughter. She provided very generously for Jo, giving up things she could have had for herself. She enjoyed traveling in the Bahamas, Mexico, Canada, Alaska, Hawaii, Europe, China, Russia, and camping trips with Jo and Mark. Dorothy liked to keep up with current events and doing crossword puzzles. She worked hard on her beautiful lawn at her home in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., where she grew lots of tropical plants. Dorothy adored her grandson Mark. She loved to watch as he came into Billings to finish the Montana Marathon. She enjoyed attending his wedding in 2014 and was delighted to hold his daughter on Mother's Day 2015. She faithfully attended church every Sunday. At various times in her life, she belonged to Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterian and Congregational churches. She served as a deacon for several years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe DixonBarringer; parents Charles and Leah Thomson; sisters Irene Neu, Faye Frazier and Ruth Thomson; brother Kenneth Thomson; nephews Charles Pilcher and Gene Frazier; in-laws Dr. and Mrs. W.A. Barringer; brother-in-law, W.A. Barringer; and sisters-in-law Katherine Barringer and Elaine Barringer. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Jo Barringer; her grandson, Mark Barringer, his wife Aninha and great-granddaughter Giovanna. She is also survived by niece Katherine Dean (Robert) and nephew John Barringer (Teresa). Dorothy was a lifelong animal lover and always had at least one pet that she was very attached to. BETTY D. BURKS MANIS, 86, of Huntington, W.Va., completed her life long journey to heaven on Monday, May 25, 2015, at St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, May 29, 2015, at Kellogg Independent Holiness Church of God, Huntington, W.Va., by Pastor Roger L. Mooney. Burial will follow at Spring Valley Memory Gardens, Huntington, W.Va. She was born April 21, 1929, in Huntington, W.Va., a daughter of the late Frank Fuller Burks and Julia Hancock Burks. Also preceding her in death was her husband Arthur Sherman Manis; four sisters, Nannie Napier, Genevieve Booth, Kathleen Tiller and Violet Holly; three brothers, Eddie Franklin Burks, Charles Burks and Howard Burks; two daughters-in-law, Rhodana Manis and Barbara Manis; a son-in-law George S. Barr Jr.; and a grandson Joshua Jacob Manis. Betty was a homemaker and member of the Jackson Avenue Church of God Holiness where she taught Sunday School for many years. She also attended the Kellogg Independent Church of God Holiness. She loved to crochet, quilt and work puzzles, but her passion was serving Christ and singing religious hymns. Survivors include three daughters, Julia R. Barr, Linda K. Daniels and Alice J. Mooney and husband Roger, all of Huntington, W.Va.; three sons, Jim Manis of Huntington, W.Va., Sherman Ray Manis and wife Mila of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Arthur F. Manis and wife Debbie of Kenova, W.Va.; a sister Helen Smith of Barboursville, W.Va.; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and six great- great-grandchildren. JACKIE DAWN CURNUTTE, 49 years old, completed her journey home on Tuesday May 26, 2015. She passed with her husband Timothy, daughter Jessie, and son Jacob by her side. Jackie was born June 7, 1965, to Mary and Winfred "Bud" Lucas in Norfolk, Virginia. Jackie graduated from Barboursville High School in 1983. She went on to work at the VA Medical Center for 24 years where she was an advocate for veterans in regards to finance. Her compassion and heart earned her the honor of being nominated a "Kentucky Colonel." Jackie was a faithful member of the Kenova Church of Christ where her love for children shone through as she taught school age Sunday school for many years. In addition to her immediate family, Jackie is survived by daughter-in-law Tiffany; granddaughter Ava Kate; son-in-law to be Austin Mills; mother-in-law Phyllis Curnutte; brother and sister-in-law Ray and Renita Lucas; niece Shelby Lucas and a host of loving extended family. LOUIS SHARP, 78, of Huntington, W.Va., passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents Glen and Mildred Moulton Sharp and his twin brother Larry. He is also survived by his sister Linda Elkins and brother Don Sharp as well as a host of nieces and nephews to whom he has been like a father. He was born May 7, 1955 in Huntington, WV, a son of the late Kenneth and Lois Vivian Pennington Sanders. He loved fishing and his dogs. JEWEL ANN MERRITT, 72, of Fort Gay, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 28, 2015. She was born September 21, 1942, a daughter of the late Jennings and Mary Noble. Also preceding her in death are three brothers, Edward Noble, Labon Noble and Jennings Noble Jr.; three sisters, Ellen Sheppard, Mandy "Frankie" Thompson, and Nora Mae Hoyt; and daughter-in-law, Brenda Merritt. Jewel attended the Fort Gay Church of God. She is survived by one sister, "Dockie" Stewart and her husband Gene of Galion, Oh.; one daughter, Joyce Adams of Dawsonville, Ga.; four sons, James Merritt of West Blocton, Ala., Ronald (Diane "Dee") Merritt of Fort Gay, W.Va., Randall Merritt of Dawsonville, Ga., and Russell (Jan) Merritt of Prichard, W.Va.; 12 grandchildren, Richard, Misty, James Jr., Brandon, Ronald Jr. (Samantha), Sherry, Jill, Catie, Taylor, Clyde Jr. (Brooke), Jeffrey (Joy), Brittany.; 13 great grandchildren; and a host of friends and family too numerous to mention. REV. JAMES CALVIN DEMPSEY, 81, of Lavalette, W.Va., widower of Peggy Ann Dempsey, passed away Thursday May 28, 2015 at the Huntington Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born April 22, 1934 in Lavalette, W.Va., and was raised by the late Anna and John Wick. Others preceding him in death were his four brothers, George, Donald, Clifton and Claude Dempsey; and his special cousin Pauline Wick. James was a US Army Veteran, and acquired a Masters in Divinity. He was a retired Methodist Minister having served many counties in W.Va., and in Lawrence County, Ohio. He also had worked for the Corp of Engineers and Armco Steel. He was a member of the W.Va. Methodist Conference, and the Lavalette United Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Cindy Church of Caldwell, Ohio; a son, John Dempsey of Lavalette; granddaughter, Jo Ann Shaffer and husband, Jared, of Dayton, Pa.; and two great grandchildren, Faith Ann Church of Caldwell, Ohio, and Weylin Shaffer of Dayton, Pa. Graveside services will be conducted 11 a.m., Monday June 1, 2015 at the White Chapel Mausoleum with Carol K. McKay officiating. Burial will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. LUTHER NAPIER, 82, of Kiahsville, W.Va. passed away Thursday, May 28, 2015 at his residence. Luther was a retired punch press operator for Verding Lighting Company and was a U. S. Marine Corps veteran. He was also preceded in death by his step-mother, Susie Napier, a daughter, Dora Marie Robertson, a sister, Florida Maynard, a brother, Jerry Napier, a grandson, Kenneth Ray Napier, and a great-granddaughter, Summer L. Caldwell. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Martha Jane Dalton Napier; four daughters, Sharon Caldwell, Diana Gadley (David), Patricia Napier and Jessie Chafin (Richard); three sons, Roger Lee Napier (LaVonna), Perley Allen Napier, and Luther Junior Napier; two sisters, Effie Fraley (Bobby Gene) and Tinafaye Hartman; a brother, Lendisy Napier (Jacqueline); 23 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. RAMONA JEAN GIBSON, 83, of Wayne, W.Va., woke up in the arms of Jesus on Friday, May 29, 2015. She was born January 1, 1932 in Cabell County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Arthur and Jewell Hensley Wheeler. She was retired from Coyne Textile and Corbin LTD. She was a member of Bowen Ridge Church. She was preceded in death by one son, Donald Wayne Gibson, one grandson, Michael Ray Bartram, one sister, Phyllis Loraine Wheeler, and two brothers, Kenneth Wheeler and Lance Krehe Wheeler. She is survived by her husband of sixty-seven years, Donald Gibson; one daughter and son-in-law, Catherine Kay and Charles David Dick of Wayne, W.Va.; one son, Steven Eric Gibson of Huntington; three sisters, Carolyn Jones of Athalia, Ohio, Marian Broughton of Kettering, Ohio, and Patricia Eubank of Huntington; three brothers, Raymond Wheeler of Gallipolis, Ohio, David Lee Wheeler of Lexington, Ky and Mitchell Wheeler of Huntington; six grandchildren, Sheila Bartram, Shawn Jeffrey, Seth Jeffrey, Melissa Dick, David Dick and Billy Dick; ten great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. MRS. JOHNNA JEAN EATON JONES, 84, of South Point, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 29, 2015 at home. She was born March 11, 1931, in Chesapeake, Ohio, a daughter of the late John B. Eaton an Inez Thacker Eaton. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ernest P. Jones; one son, Gregory E. Jones (Ella) of South Point; two grandsons whom she adored, Joshua Jones (Cassie) of Columbus, Ohio, Caleb Jones of South Point, Ohio; granddaughter Lucy Fout; a sister Carolyn E. Smith; brother-in-law Harold L. Sheets; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents, a sister, Emma Belle Sheets, preceded her in death. Johnna was a graduate, majorette and valedictorian of Chesapeake High School and held undergraduate and graduate degrees from Marshall University. She taught fourth grade for one year then the first grade for many years at South Point Elementary No. 2. She was a member of South Point United Methodist Church and frequently served as a pianist there. Johnna led a very active life and especially enjoyed the game of golf, both following the various tournaments on television and golfing with her many friends and the Ladies Nine Holers Club at the Ironton Country Club. She will be greatly missed by her family members and friends who will fondly treasure her memory and her zest for life. Anita graduated with a Masters in Education from Marshall University in 1979 and was employed as an elementary school teacher with the Wayne County School System for 33 years. She also taught at both Fort Gay Elementary and Kenova Elementary. Survivors include her husband of 35 years, David Peters of Huntington; a son Jason Peters of Omaha, Nebraska; three sisters, June Wistrand of Boca Raton, Fla., Joann Steele of South Charleston, W.Va., and Betty Williams of Beaver, W.Va.; two brothers, Johnny Adkins of Pounding Mill, Va., and Jimmy Adkins of Leesburg, Ga. Mrs. Alexander was a charter member of XI Chapter of the Alpha Delta Kappa International Honorary Organization of Women Educators, the Ceredo-Kenova River Cities Lions Club and Westmoreland United Methodist Church. Survivors include one son Phillip Alexander and wife Karen of Barboursville and one daughter, Alison Alexander-Owers and husband James Owers of Athens, Ga.
