LINDA M. HOBACK, 76, of Chesapeake, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 1, 2016, at St. Mary's Medical Center, Huntington. She was born December 25, 1939, in Huntington, to the late Oscar Lawrence and Margaret Dietz Pinkerman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Pinkerman. She retired from the Veterans Administration. She was a member of the former Highlawn Baptist Church. She was an avid pianist and instructor and writer of several songs. She is survived by her husband, Roger Hoback; one son and daughter-in-law whom she considered like a daughter, Roger (Sherri) Hoback II of Chesapeake, Ohio; and one grandson, Roger (Brianna) Hoback III of Proctorville. Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, December 5, 2016, at Schneider Funeral Home, Chesapeake, Ohio, by Pastor David Jicka. Burial will follow in Newman Cemetery, Lavalette, W.Va. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, December 5, 2016, at the funeral home.

JOSHUA GLEN ROWE, 38, of Lavalette, W.Va., passed away Friday, December 2, 2016 at home. Born April 18, 1978 in Huntington, W.Va., Joshua was a carpenter. His mother, Catherine Thompson Rowe preceded him in death along with his paternal grandfather, Burgess Rowe. He leaves behind his father, Glen (Carol) Rowe of Wayne; his loving wife Rhoda; three daughters, Alison Rowe of Barboursville, W.Va., Lilyan Rowe of Lavalette, and Amber Stone, also of Barboursville; two sons, Jacob Rowe of Lavalette, and Anthony Stone of Huntington; two sisters, Michelle Ash of Elkins, W.Va. and Jaime Wallace of Wayne; one brother, Lee Lilly of Alabama; and paternal grandmother Mary Rowe of Wayne. Also surviving are his parents-in-law, Mary Adkins of Ona, W.Va., and Doug Adkins of Branchland, W.Va.; sister-in-law, Vanessa Hensley of Branchland; and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends too numerous to mention. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, December 9, 2016 at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Copley Cemetery. Friends may call after 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

GARRETT HUNDLEY, 26, of Lavalette died Dec. 2, 2016. Johnson Tiller Funeral Home, Wayne, is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete.

IDA MAY COPLEY ROBERTSON JORDAN, 43, of Fort Gay, WV passed away Saturday Dec. 3, 2016 at the Saint Marys Medical Center following a brief illness. Ida was born June 22, 1973 at Huntington, WV the daughter of the late Roy Lee and Joyce Bowens Copley. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her first husband Vernon Lee Robertson who died in 2009. Survivors include her husband Luther Jordan of Fort Gay; two daughters Brittany Robertson and Sabrina Robertson also of Fort Gay; and a son Vernon Robertson of Fort Gay; a sister Denise Copley of Fort Gay; and two brothers Carl Bowens of Dunlow, WV and Charles Copley of Huntington, WV. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday Dec. 6th at 1:00 pm at the Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Ralph Hogston officiating. Burial will follow in the Isaac Cemetery at Louisa, KY. Friend may visit the family on Tuesday from 10:00 am until time of services at 1:00 PM at the Wilson Funeral Home. Care has been entrusted to Wilson Funeral Home.

LAURA NICHOLE REYNOLDS, 32, of Proctorville, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 4, 2016, from complications of acute asthma. She was born May 9, 1984, in Kanawha, W.Va., daughter of Jimmy and Debbie Reynolds. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her daughter, Madilynn Jean Reynolds, and grandfather, Charles Dickerson. She was preceded in death by maternal grandmother, Jean Dickerson, and paternal grandparents, Bud and Shorty Reynolds. She was a member of Camp Creek Freewill Baptist Church. She graduated from Fairland High School and was employed with Marshall Child Development Academy as a cook. The family would like to send a special thanks to all the doctors and nurses from St. Mary's Respiratory ICU, especially Amy who went beyond professional care, to Josh Ransbottom and his family and to all our family, friends and co-workers for their support and prayers. Funeral service will be conducted at noon Wednesday, December 7, 2016, at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, Ohio, by Pastor Brian Cardwell. ROBERT MICHAEL BLACK, 54, of Huntington, W.Va., passed away Sunday, December 4, 2016, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. Funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 7, 2016, at Rollins Funeral Home in Kenova with Rev. Sam Peters officiating. Interment will follow in Mayo Cemetery. He was born December 8, 1961, in Huntington, W.Va., a son of the late Gene and Emma Jean Dean Black. He was the co-owner and operator of Genes Automotive. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by triplets at birth, Jacob, Jason and Joshua. Survivors include his loving wife, Kathy Ward Black; one daughter, Sarah Black; one son, Zach Black; one stepdaughter, Heather Evans (Greg); one stepson, Jason Conway; three granddaughters, Emma Salyers, Gaebrielle and Isabelle Evans; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Rebecca Davis (Randy) and Plura Jane "Sis" McClanahan (Tim); one brother and sister-in-law, Rev. Richard Black (Lisa); several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other family and friends. The family would like to thank St. Mary's Medical Center for all their loving and tender care and also the staff and physicians of the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. JOSHUA BRANDON MARCUM, 34, of Crum, West Virginia went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 4, 2016. He was born on May 7, 1982. He was a truck driver/coal miner. He is preceded in death by his Grandfather, Liss Marcum and Grandparents, Carrie and Roy Marcum. Joshua is survived by his daughter, Zoie La-Shiea Marcum and her mother, Amanda Marie Howard of Winchester, Kentucky. His parents, Paula and Jeff Potter of Crum, West Virginia, siblings, Tiffany (Jamie) Workman of Warfield, Kentucky, Michelle (Bobby) Pippin of Panama City, Florida, Jessica (Bill) Crabtree of Turkey Creek, Kentucky, Amanda Ray of St. Albans, West Virginia and Todd Marcum of Crum, West Virginia. He is also survived by his grandmother,Betty Marcum of Crum, West Virginia, grandparents, Herbert and Grace Potter of Pikeville, Kentucky and nieces and nephews, Alexus McGlamry, Deziree, Chantel, Sarah, Hayden Brayden and Brook Crabtree, Chey Chey Marcum and Kenzie Jade Workman. Very special family members, Cody Marcum, Leann Eslick, Justin Marcum and a host of special family and friends. His favorite thing to do was spend time with his daughter, family and friends. THOMAS EDWARD HENDERSON, 79, of Huntington, widower of Mildred Belle Henderson and Estelle Henderson, died Dec. 8, 2016 at home. He was a retired Master Sergeant with the US Army and a retired US Postal Service worker. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Trinity Freewill Baptist Church, Johnstown Road; burial will follow in Docks Creek Cemetery, Kenova. CLARENCE ERMAL SMITH, 78, of Wayne, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 8, 2016. He was born December 26, 1937 in Wayne County, West Virginia, a son of the late Chester and Augusta Smith. His brothers Henry Allen Smith and J. Randall Smith also preceded him in death along with one son, Gerald Lee Smith. Clarence was retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad and attended Rush Branch Church. He leaves behind his wife, Linda Smith; seven children, Greg (April) Smith of Ontario, Oh., Donald (Jennifer) Smith of Ironton, Oh., Rachel (David) Thompson of Louisa, Ky., Kevin (Dalina) Smith of Ft. Gay, W.Va., Eric (Brandie) Smith, Beth (Nathaniel) Jordan, and Seth Smith (Cindy Wolford) all of Wayne; 20 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Linda Ferguson of Mill Creek; and special friends Tammy and Charles Rowe of Genoa, W.Va., and Lindsey Jordan of Dunlow, W.Va. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, December 12, 2016 at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Webb Cemetery. DONNA JEAN WHEELER BALL, 86, of Kenova, W.Va., passed away Thursday, December 8, 2016, at Heartland of Riverview in South Point, Ohio. She was born January 23, 1930, in Ceredo, W.Va., a daughter of the late Owen and Louise Hatten Wheeler. Donna Jean was a graduate of C-K High School. She worked for many years at Brown's Apparel. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Leo Ball, and three brothers, Owen E., Frank Hatten and James Carroll Wheeler. Donna Jean was a past member of the Marcum Chapter of OES, American Legion Post #93 Kenova Auxiliary and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She is survived by one son, David Leo Ball and Vickie Holland of Kenova, W.Va.; one daughter, Deborah and Ted Sizemore of Nicholasville, Ky.; four grandchildren, James Aaron Sizemore of Huntington, Tricia Sutton of Nicholasville, Leigh Taylor (John) Stafford of Denver, Colo., and David Matthew Ball of Independence, Ky.; and four great-grandchildren, Thomas, Garrett, Hudson and Abigail. The family would like to thank the staff of Heartland of Riverview for their care, love and support of Donna Jean and the family. Also a special thanks to caregivers, Annie McGlone and Barbara Slone. JANICE BURNS CAUDILL JUSTICE, 96, of Kenova, passed away Friday, December 9, 2016, at Midland Meadows Senior Living in Ona. Janice was born January 20, 1920, in Charleston, W.Va., a daughter of the late Stephen J. Caudill and Sadie and Harry Riggs. She grew up in Huntington and Pikeville, Ky., having graduated from Pikeville High School in 1937. Janice then attended Morehead University, as well as the University of Kentucky before finally earning a Bachelor's Degree from Marshall College in 1941. She was a retired teacher from the Wayne County School System, having begun her teaching career at Crum High School, and finally retiring as librarian from Ceredo-Kenova High School in 1985. A talented artist and poet, Janice composed numerous poems for many dear students and colleagues, thus earning her the nickname, "Poetic Justice." An avid and accomplished bowler, she spent much of her leisure time at Ceredo and Colonial Lanes. Janice was an active member of the Kenova Women's Club and was also a Kentucky Colonel. The oldest living member of the Kenova Presbyterian Church, Janice was a member of the Chancel Choir, served on the Session and was the church treasurer for many years. Our beloved mother was preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, John Estill Justice; one sister, Jean Bernice Caudill Ramsdell. Those left to cherish her memory include four daughters, Pam (Mike) Hanlon of Ft. Wayne, Ind., Patty Johnson of Ceredo, Lynn (Tom) Knopp of Kenova, and BJ (Charlie) Adkins of Catlettsburg, Ky.; one sister, Betty Jo Pinson of Huntington; and grandchildren, Andy (Nancy) Hanlon, Bryan (Jackie) Hanlon, Jamie (Sam) Hampton, Jill Sparks, Leslie (Mike) Ranken, Kevin Pack, Anthony (Rachel) Dishman, Cassandra (Russell) Kerns and seven great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and one very dear friend, Ruth Ellen Meredith of Topeka, Kan. The family would sincerely like to thank the staff of Midland Meadows for their care, love and support of Janice and her family. IVAN JACOB JOHNSON, 78, of Lavalette, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 10, 2016. He was born May 28, 1938 in Wayne County, West Virginia, a son of the late Ezra and Adah Johnson. His sister, Bonnie Hall also preceded him in death along with three brothers, Eldon Johnson, Keith Johnson and Howard Johnson. A 1955 graduate of Wayne High School and a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Ivan was proud to be a UMWA retiree from Oglebay Norton, Ceredo, W.Va. He leaves behind his wife Devetta Collins Johnson; two daughters, Valerie (Donald) Wheeler of Lavalette, W.Va., and Kimberly (Ernest) Wagers of Huntington; two sons, Scott (Amy) Johnson of Lavalette, and Dale (Kristen) Johnson of Hayden, Idaho; nine grandchildren, Dain, Tess, Trent, Joshua, Justin, Audrey, Camryn, Ali, and Addison; and five great grandchildren, Jace, Colt, Kimber, Kinslee, and Lincoln. Also surviving are two sisters, Joyce (Bill) Pauley of Lavalette, and Janet (Perry) Ferguson of West Union, W.Va; one sister-in-law, Mary Johnson of Lavalette; one stepson, Mark Clay of Lavalette; one step-grandson, Mark (Tera) Clay Jr., also of Lavalette; and host of family and friends too numerous to mention. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2016 at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home with Pastor Johnnie Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the Collins Cemetery. LLOYD L. ESTEP, 60 of Prichard passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington. He was born on March 28, 1956 in Logan, WV to the late Romeo and Marie Ramey-Estepp. He was a laborer and worked on the Pipelines for many years and also served his country honorably in the US Marines. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by four siblings Barbara Jean Ferrebee, Glena Irene Seagraves, Phillip F. Estepp and Billy Joe Estepp. Mr. Estep leaves behind a caring family including one son William Estep of Huntington, WV; one daughter Millena Estep of Fort Gay; four siblings Romeo "Buddy" Estepp of Inez, Polly Cambot of Lompoc, CA, Helen Curtis-Meagher of Nashville, TN and Robert Allen Estepp of Fort Gay. MARY ELLEN STAMPER PORTER, 82, of Dunlow, W.Va., passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2016, at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington, W.Va. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, December 15, 2016, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, W.Va., Pastor Greg Ramey officiating. Burial will follow at the Greasy Ridge Cemetery, Dunlow. She was born on February 22, 1934, in Dunlow, a daughter of the late Glen and Estle Wellman Stamper. She was a homemaker. Mary is preceded in death by her husband Clifford Porter and her siblings Ruth, Everette, Leroy, Forrest, Geraldine, Eleanor and Christine. Survivors include her daughter Bonnie Porter of Fort Gay, W.Va.; son Clifton Porter (Teresa) of Dunlow; sister Irene Rose of Columbus, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Selena and David Ferguson, Jason, Jessica and Cody Porter, Jesse Prince, Shari Devaney and Christopher Bowens, and 14 great-grandchildren, Molli and Ashton Ferguson, Mallory and Rilee White, Lance Hepler, Jesse Prince II, Kaylee and Eli Prince, Dylan, Madison and Gavin Devaney and Kaylei, Laiken and Ahlyah Bowens. MARY JO "Momma Jo" STAMPER LOVINS, 77, formerly of Prichard, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on December 11, 2016, at Heritage/Genesis Nursing Home, Huntington, W.Va. She was born January 10, 1939, to the late Henry and Goldie Hall Stamper of Dunlow, W.Va. Her loving husband, Ray Lovins also preceded her in death, along with one son-in-law, John Staley, one sister, Joyce Accord, and two brothers, Andy Stamper and Tom Stamper. Mary Jo was a homemaker, loved to cook, watch over her children and loved to worship the Lord by singing. She had five children and one godchild, Danny Lovins, Cindy Staley, Tammy (Tim) Knappenberger, Lisa Lovins, Greg (Kathy) Lovins, Susan Garrettson. Her grandchildren are Danny Ray (Bracken), Tiffani, Jennifer (Mark), Chris, Oceania, Jasmine, Chasity, Emma, Jamie, Jeremy (Ashley), Jason (Jana), Ashlee (Matthew), and Tanner, and great grandchildren are Landyn, Victoria, James, Brooklyn, Aiden, Montana, Thomas, Dylan, Kellan, Hattie, Jordie, and Silas. Also surviving are six sisters and three brothers Jewell Ferguson, Sue Williamson, June Marcum, Kaye Dickinson, Betty Crabtree, Patty James, Bernard Stamper, Jerry Stamper, and Dale Stamper. Momma Jo was known and loved by all who knew her and we loved to hear her sing her favorite gospel songs everyday of her life. And her favorite saying of all time "Here is your hat what is your hurry". Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at Johnson-Tiller Funeral Home, with Pastor Randall Robertson, Locust Grove Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Docks Creek Cemetery in Kenova. Friends and family may call from 6 to 9 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.

SARAH PARCELL SAMMONS, 94, of Huntington, widow of Fred Sammons, died Dec. 11, 2016 at home. She was a retired school teacher. There will be no services scheduled. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice House. Reger Funeral Home is assisting the family. www.regerfh.com.

MELISSA ANN ROBERTSON-MARCUM, 49 of Fort Gay passed away Sunday, December 11, 2016 at Three Rivers Medical Center in Louisa. She was born in Louisa on August 17, 1967 to the late Floyd Robertson, Jr. and Brady Stone Robertson. Melissa was a homemaker and loved her family dearly. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by one nephew David Jordan. Survivors include her husband Billy Craig Marcum of Fort Gay; one daughter Heather Resheay Marcum-Castle of Louisa; one son Tayler Marcum of Fort Gay; two grandchildren Braiden Ryan Castle and Kylan Castle; eight siblings Kim and Toni Cantrell, Becky Robinson, Diane Young, Tina Ball, Gary and James Robertson; nieces and nephews Rena Harper. Tessa Ball, Devon Robinson, Kayla and Bobby Cantrell; her mother and father-in-law Bill and Barb Marcum of Fort Gay as well as many extended family members and friends all of whom will miss her dearly. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at 1:00 pm at the Young Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Jim Farley officiating burial will follow at the Sartin Family Cemetery in Fort Gay. DAVID MICHAEL COLEMAN, 22, of Lavalette, W.Va., died Sunday, December 11, 2016. David was an honor graduate from Wayne High School in 2012. He earned his nursing degree from St. Mary's School of Nursing in 2015 and he was employed as a Registered Nurse at St. Mary's Medical Center. David played midget league football for the Buffalo Bisons as a youngster, playing for Hoss Wellman and Danny Crum, winning the D-Team Turf Bowl Championship alongside Elijah Wellman and repeated as champions at the A Team level. David began an amateur boxing career at age 14, winning the Ohio State Fair Nationals at age 15 and 16 at 138 pounds. A young veteran with over 50 bouts, David fought in National Junior Golden Gloves as well as National Golden Gloves in Mesquite, Nevada, placing 5th and 6th nationally. He loved music, and was the lead vocalist in a local metal band, Carnage. David is survived by his parents, Robert and Fina Coleman of Lavalette, W.Va.; a brother, Christopher and Heather and niece Bri; a sister, Hannah Renee Coleman; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins. David was hardworking, dedicated and always gave his best at anything he did. From nursing school to his job as a nurse, you could always count on David to give his all. Never a dull minute when David was around, you could count on him to make you laugh until you cried. He made the nightshift at work a little more interesting. THOMAS JEFFERSON LEWIS, 82, of Ceredo, passed away December 12, 2016, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2016, at Rollins Funeral Home in Kenova with Pastor Scott Byard officiating. Interment will follow in Cyrus Cemetery. He was born December 23, 1933, in Kenova, W.Va., a son of the late Henry and Marie Booth Lewis. Thomas was a retired firefighter from the City of Huntington Fire Department. He was a member of the Crescent Lodge No. 32 AF&AM, whose members will conduct graveside rites. He was also Past High Priest of the Clarence H. Stoner Chapter R.A.M. He was a member of Tri-County No. 51 R.A.M., Logan Commandery No. 26, Scottish Rite Valley of Huntington and Past Excellent Chief of Tri-State Council No. 57 Knight Masons. Thomas was the last surviving charter member of the Kenova Volunteer Fire Department and the first fire chief. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Billie Jean Snyder Lewis; two sisters, Norma Bartram and Clara Mae Rice; and two brothers, Henry Curtis Lewis and Charles Raymond Lewis. Survivors include his son, Charles Steven Lewis of Scott Depot, W.Va.; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Frances L. Elkins of Ceredo, W.Va., and Mary Ann Lykins (Richard "Buck") of Kenova, W.Va. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends. Visitation will be Thursday, December 15, 2016, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rollins Funeral Home in Kenova. JASON SCOTT GASTON, 39, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 13, 2016, at his home in Catlettsburg, Ky. Jason was born July 24, 1977, in Parkersburg, W.Va., a son of Louie and Tammy Gaston of Parkersburg. He was employed by Mi-De-Con Inc. of Ironton, Ohio. Jason was a devoted husband and father who placed the needs of his family first and foremost. He worked hard and was an excellent provider for the family he loved. He was preceded in death by one brother, Joey Gaston. In addition to his parents, Jason is survived by his beloved wife, Jaime Thompson Gaston; his precious children, Jacob, Josh, Jared and Emma Campbell, Brent, Andrew, Ashley, Claire and Ava Gaston. He is also survived by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Fred and Brenda Copley; his father-in-law, Mike Thompson; and his brother-in-law, Paul Thompson, and he will be greatly missed by his family. MARY JARRELL JUSTICE, 96, of Huntington, formerly of Logan, W.Va., died in Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington on December 13, 2016. Mary was born February 27, 1920, to Christopher Columbus and Celia Ann Staten Jarrell in Wayne, West Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George Edward, of 64 years in 2004, her daughter, Peggy Ross, in 1997, sisters, Lucinda Evans, Martha Napier, and brothers, William, Jace, Lee and John. She is survived by brothers, Delbert (Dot) and Joe (Blanch), both of Ohio; her daughter, Phyllis of Huntington; granddaughter, Deborah Alley Bupp (Mike); great-granddaughter, Sarah of Pennsylvania; and many nieces and nephews. Mary graduated from Logan High School in 1940 and Martz Beauty School of Huntington in 1947. Until 1966 she owned Justice Beauty Shop in West Logan. During World War II she worked for Guyan Machinery. From her teen years she enjoyed singing alto both in gospel quartets and solo. Mary loved to quilt, sew, cook, garden, preserve foods, read and listen to Southern Gospel music. Mary attended Barboursville Baptist Church. When her children were young, she was active in PTA and Girl Scouts as a leader. From 1991 to 1994 she was Secretary to the Board of Directors for Prestera Center of Huntington. Thanks to the nurses and staff at Hospice House of Huntington for their care, and special thanks to Donna and Heather for helping to take care of her at home. JOHN ANDREW CREAMER JR., 39, died at St. Mary's Medical Center on Wednesday, December 14, 2016. He may be absent from this world, but he is present with our Lord and the loved ones that went on before him. Born July 6,1977, he was a 1995 graduate of Vinson High School and attended Capital University and Marshall University. He worked as a general laborer, specializing in tile applications. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Vonne Asbury and Ed and AnnRita Creamer; his father, John Andrew Creamer Sr.; and a stepbrother, Brandon Lee Byrd. He is survived by his mother, Cynthia Robin Byrd; stepfather, James Byrd; sons, Kaleb Andrew Creamer, Jaxon Kain Creamer, and daughter, Lily Scarlet Creamer. He leaves behind a sister, Melanie Vonne Menear and her husband Greg; a brother, Bradley Ray Creamer and his wife Gabrielle; stepbrothers, David Byrd and Danny Byrd; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and a tremendous amount of friends who loved him. John was a friend to all who knew him. He loved wrestling and was the only state wrestling champion ever from Vinson High School. While he had many struggles in life, he continued on with a great attitude. His battles with addiction were difficult to overcome, and he struggled daily but always had a good attitude and was forever appreciative of those who believed in him. MARILYN RICKMAN, 68, of Huntington, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 15, 2016. She was born February 29, 1948 in Huntington, a daughter of the late Everett and Betty Rickman. Marilyn was member of the Centerville Baptist Church. In addition to church, Marilyn enjoyed knitting, reading, and working crossword puzzles. She leaves behind two sisters, Carolyn Blankenship (Adrian) of Huntington, Ruth Ann Rickman of Wayne, W.Va.; and two brothers, Everett Rickman Jr. of Wayne, and Michael Lee Rickman (Teresa) of Lavalette, W.Va.; and a host of family and friends too numerous to mention. WANDA LOUISE MUSSER CHAFFINS, 75, of Ceredo, West Virginia, wife of Jerry Edward Chaffins, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2016, at Cabell-Huntington Hospital. She was born in Kenova, West Virginia, on June 28, 1941, a daughter of the late Bennie and Opal Musser of Kenova, West Virginia. Wanda was also preceded in death by a son, John David Chaffins. She is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 53 years, Jerry Edward Chaffins; two sons and their wives, Jeffrey Edward and Rebecca Sue Chaffins of Huntington, W.Va., and Mark Andrew and Angela Sue Chaffins of Huntington, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Kristen Avanelle and Abigail Kay Chaffins and Shaun Michael and Miranda Alexis Chaffins, all of Huntington, W.Va.; and three sisters, Katherine Bowen, Priscilla McGlone, and Eletha Farley, all of Kenova, W.Va.; many nieces and nephews; and many dear friends. Wanda graduated from Ceredo-Kenova High School in 1959 and attended classes at the Huntington Business College. She was employed by the Kenova Bank for fifteen years, as a Proof Operator, and by H&R Block for nearly fifteen years, as a tax preparer. Wanda was a member of the Kenova Order of the Eastern Star, Kentucky Colonels, the Almost Heaven Good Sam Traveling Club, and the Arky Stars Square Dancing Club. However, her greatest joy and love in life were her family and her service and dedication to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Wanda was a 66 year member of Kenova United Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher for 5-6 year old children for 42 years and Chairperson of the Worship Committee. She loved spending time and traveling with her husband, best friend, and soulmate, Jerry. Her favorite destinations were Gatlinburg, Tennessee, and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She spent time floralarranging and wreath-making. Wanda dearly loved and spent time preparing Sunday school lessons and crafts for "her children." Visitation will be at Kenova United Methodist Church on Wednesday, December 21, 2016, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with funeral services at 1 p.m. officiated by the Rev. James Richards. LLOYD GARRETT "GARY BO" DISHMAN, 49, of Ashland, formerly of Prichard, WV passed away Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Ashland. Gary Bo was born March 7, 1967 in Huntington, WV a son of the late Lloyd Dishman and the late Carolyn Perry-Sammons. Gary was a heavy equipment operator. Survivors include, his step father, James Sammons of Prichard, WV; six step children Jimmy Smith, Dustin Smith and Veronica Smith all of Cannonsburg and Jessica Hooker of Pedro, Ohio, Tracy Burton of Prichard, WV and Jimmy Burton of Florida; one step brother Chris Dishman of Ironton; three aunts Mary Blankenship who he called Mommy #1 and Gail Blankenship who he called Mommy #2 both of Prichard, WV. and Dorothy Nichols of Huntington; two uncles Joe Perry of Kenova and Roy Perry of South Carolina; 11 grandchildren; his best friend Rick Kelly of Louisa as well as his companion Jamie Dishman of Ashland and a host of friends and extended family members. CHARLEY J. ADKINS, 83, of Wayne, WV, went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 19, 2016 at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, WV. He was born July 26, 1933 in Wayne County, a son of the late John and Gladys Osburn Adkins. Charley was a retired truck driver for Columbia Gas with 46 years of service. He worked hard to provide for his family, but also enjoyed playing bluegrass music, doing body work on cars, trading knives and whittling with his buddies at Beech Fork Marina. He loved spending time talking with family and friends. He was also a member of the Church of God on Newcomb Creek. An infant son, Jackie Leonard Adkins, a grandson, Gary Lee Adkins, a sister, Sylvia Ross, and a brother, Billy Adkins, also preceded him in death. William was a truck driver for Ashland Oil. He was a U.S. Veteran of Marine Reserves and a member of the Marine Corps League. JAMES R. JOHNSON, 88, departed from this life December 21, 2016. He graduated from Buffalo High School in Wayne County and served in the Navy during World War II on board the Submarine USS RONCADORE. At the end of the war, he married the love of his life, Frances M. Arthur Johnson, who is his survivor. He is also survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Cimba Johnson and Steven and Joy Johnson, with four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He retired from the Huntington VA Medical Center (Engineering Service) with 35 years of service. His time here on Earth was spent well as he was a dedicated servant to God, his beloved wife, his mother and father, his precious sons and their wives, his grandchildren, his wife's family and all who knew him. Betty was born on February 26, 1925, in Huntington, the daughter of the late John James and Martha Elizabeth Samson Huff. Betty was a homemaker, a graduate of Vinson High School and a member of Central United Methodist Church, where she was a long-standing member of the choir. WILKIE NAPIER, 74, of Fort Gay, West Virginia passed away Sunday, December 25, 2016 at Three Rivers Medical Center in Louisa, Kentucky. Wilkie was born July 16, 1942 in Jolo, West Virginia, a son of the late Elzie and Ella Napier, he was a retired track patrol foreman for N&S Railroad, he was also a United States Army Veteran and a member of the Lighthouse Freewill Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son who passed away in 1982, Jeffery Michael Napier; brothers, Kenneth, Willis, Wilburn and Wilford; and sister, Effie Steele. EVELYN JUNE HATTEN ADKINS, 92, of Huntington, W.Va., passed away Monday, December 26, 2016, at her home. Evelyn was born in Kenova on April 20, 1924, a daughter of the late Alva and Florence Wilson Hatten. Growing up in Kenova, she graduated from C-K High School. She was married to Dorsey R. KERMIT ELDRIDGE McGINNIS was welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven on December 26, 2016, at St. Marys Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia. He was surrounded by his wife Dorothy, his children and grandchildren. Kermit was born on March 1, 1924, in Huntington and was the youngest child of B.C. and Gladys McGinnis. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Harold McGinnis, Maxine McGinnis Ramsey, Bernard McGinnis, Rupert McGinnis, and Karleen Warnock. On December 25, 2016, he celebrated the 66th wedding anniversary with the love of his life and best friend, Dorothy Hatfield McGinnis. He attended Virginia Tech and graduated from Marshall University upon his return from service in World War II. Kermit began his professional career with Huntington Federal Savings Bank in 1948. In 1952 at age 28, he became one of the nation's youngest Presidents of a financial institution. In 2016, Kermit retired as CEO of Huntington Federal after a 67-year career. He was active with many organizations and huge fan of Marshall and the Thundering Herd. He loved Huntington and worked tirelessly to help support community projects. Having lived through the Great Depression, his work ethic was second to none and he believed that "giving back to the community" is not only the right thing to do for others, but also helps to provide a person with a full and complete life. Kermit's accomplishments include: U.S. Army Staff Sargent, 99th Infantry Division Sharp Shooter, European Theatre Belgium and Germany 1943-1946 (Battle of the Bulge Veteran); Past President and Director of the West Virginia League of Savings; Past Director of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh; Past Director and Member of the Legislative Committee of the United States Savings and Loan League; Past Director of the Southeastern Group of the United States Saving and Loan League; Past Director of the Huntington Industrial Corporation; Past Director of the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce; Member and Past Director of the Huntington Rotary Club; Past Director and Secretary of the Huntington Urban Renewal, serving 20 years; Past Director of The Foster Foundation and was actively involved in the planning and development of the Woodlands Retirement Community; Past Member and former Chairman of the West Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges, serving 30 years; Past Member Huntington Clinical Foundation; Member Huntington Foundation Board of Directors; Past Board Member and Finance Committee of the YMCA; Past Member Marshall Foundation Board of Directors for 20 years, serving as president in 1982 - 1983, and was elected into the University's Circle of Gold in 1998; Director of Marshall University's Lewis College of Business Advisory Board; Inducted into Marshall University Elizabeth McDowell Lewis College of Business Hall of Fame in 2000; The Kermit E. McGinnis Distinguished Professorship in the Elizabeth McDowell Lewis College of Business was established in 2000; Charter Member of the John Marshall Society; Recipient of The Herald-Dispatch Citizens Award for Community Achievement in 2006; Lifelong Member of Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church and served as its treasurer for 33 years; Obtained funds in 1990 through the Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburg for Cabell-Huntington Coalition for the Homeless to establish Vanity Fair, a residential program for the homeless; Past Board Member and Finance Chairman for the Girl Scouts of America, Past Member of the Commercial Division of the United Fund Campaign; Marshall University Foundation honors Kermit E. McGinnis and Huntington Federal for lifetime giving of $500,000 to the Kermit E. McGinnis Distinguished Professorship in the Elizabeth McDowell Lewis College of Business at Marshall University – 2015; Huntington Masonic Lodge #53; Member of the Huntington Valley Scottish Rite; Member of the Beni Kedem Shrine. Kermit's love and legacy live on through his children and grandchildren, Kermit H. McGinnis of Bardstown, Ky., Suzanne McGinnis Oxley of Huntington (married to Leon K. Oxley), Charlotte E. McGinnis of Flat Rock, N.C. (partner Ellen Sherman), Mollie McGinnis Hinckley of Johns Creek, Ga. (married to Gerard J. Hinckley); in addition to six grandchildren, David McGinnis, Laura McGinnis Foor (married to Cole Foor), Sam Oxley, Grace, Hannah and Emily Hinckley and one great-granddaughter, Addie Foor, and many wonderful friends and relatives and his special caregivers Betty Evans, Lisa Estep and Barbara Harless. GLADYS KAY WATTS, 63, of Prichard, W.Va., passed away Monday, December 26, 2016, in St. Mary's Medical Center. She was born December 19, 1953, in Wayne County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Paul and Loretta Hope Adkins Napier. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Fisher Allen "Pete" Watts; four sisters, Gloria Gaynell Napier, Helen Marie Napier, Yvonne Bernice Napier Maynard and Agnes Dian Costner; and two brothers, Larry Earl Napier and Billy Joe Cornwell. She formerly worked for a textile mill. Survivors include two brothers, Paul (Sue) Napier of Prichard and Ralph Bauman of Barboursville, W.Va., and several nieces and nephews. BETTY SIMPKINS HUTCHISON, of Kenova, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 26, 2016, at Cabell Health Care Center, Culloden, W.Va. She was born in Wayne, W.Va., to the late James R. Simpkins and Nola Brumfield Simpkins. Betty graduated from Ceredo-Kenova High School and attended Marshall University and Tri-State Bible College. She was best known for her music, art and poetry. She was the church pianist for the First Independent Missionary Baptist Church of Kenova from 1956 until her illness in 2012. Her theme song was "Make Me a Blessing," which she faithfully played each Sunday as the classes convened. She sang and played piano in several quartets and trios, and in her earlier years, was a teacher of shaped note music. Betty discovered a gift for drawing late in her life and enjoyed charcoal drawings and simple sketches. She was a lifelong poet and several of her poems were published in the World of Poetry Press and National Library of Poetry. She was chosen "Golden Poet" of the year on several occasions. Betty had a love for animals and consistently carried pet food in her car in case she would come across an animal in need. Betty loved the ocean and saw it through a lens all her own. Many of her writings reflected this love, as well as her many trips to Myrtle Beach. Betty worked as a secretary for AEP and the Social Security office and retired from Southwestern Community Action Council after 23 years of service. Betty served in her church, not only as pianist, but as Sunday School Teacher of the Young Marrieds class for 16 years. She was past president of the Ladies Mission Circle and served as the church clerk for several years. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her brothers, Jimmy and Wayne Simpkins, and her sister, MadgeJones. She is survived by her two daughters, Linda McCaffrey of Kenova and Myra (Art) Lydick of Huntington; two grandchildren, Meredith Lydick of Kenova and Molly Lydick of Huntington. Also surviving are one niece, Joanne Hays of Vienna, W.Va., and three nephews, Casey (Dianne) Jones of Rockwood, Tenn., Scott Jones of Parkersburg, W.Va., and John (Cathy) Simpkins of Barboursville. The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff at Cabell Health Care Center and a special thanks to Amy Fields and her staff in the Lighthouse Unit, who were angels of mercy. TAMELA FAYE MARCUM PACK, 45, of Kermit, WV; passed away on Monday, December 26, 2016 at her home. She was born on July 12, 1971 in Mingo Co., WV; she was a daughter of Bonnie Stepp Marcum of Kermit, WV and the late David J. Savage. She was a preceded in death by her sister, Beulah Savage. Tamela was a homemaker. She is survived by her husband, Lee Pack of Kermit, WV, Sons, Sol Marcum and wife Brandy of Ohio and Sam and Seth Marcum both of Kermit, WV and daughter, Angel Runyon of Kermit, WV as well as 2 grandchildren, Liam Marcum and Benlee Donald.Tamela is also survived by her siblings; David Savage and wife Patricia of Kermit, WV, George Savage and wife Gena of Inez, KY, and Debbie Hannah and husband Mike of Illinois. WALTER MICHAEL "MIKE" PERRY, 66, of Huntington, formerly of Paragould, Ark., was taken suddenly to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on Tuesday, December 27, 2016, at his residence in Barboursville. He was born June 18, 1950, in Fort Gay, W.Va., to the late Walter and Jean Preston Perry. Mike was an avid outdoorsman and loved golfing, fishing and hunting. Mike was a member of Big Hurricane Missionary Baptist and also attended Unity Baptist in Ashland, Kentucky. Mike had recently retired from ACF Industries (Huntington, W.Va.) and American Railcar Industries (Paragould, Ark.) after 46 years of service, though he stayed busy with consulting for the company after his retirement. In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his cherished wife of 43 years, Helen Holt Perry. Mike is survived by his loving fiancee, Teresa Matovich Carter of Catlettsburg, Ky.; one daughter, Kelly Michell Perry and fiance David Christian of Clearwater, Fla.; three grandsons who were his treasures on this earth, Michael Ryan Bruetsch and wife Anne of Paragould, Ark., Devin Bruetsch of Jonesboro, Ark., and Sheldon Bruetsch of Blacksburg, Va.; a former son-in-law, Dennis Bruetsch of Houston, Texas; one sister, Norma and Bob Chiarenzelli of Paragould, Ark.; five brothers, Tony and Marilyn Perry of Prichard, W.Va., Randy and Lisa Perry of Huntington, W.Va., Herb and Harriet Perry of Fort Gay, W.Va., Dennis and Rhonda Perry of Wayne, W.Va., and Loren and Tracey Perry of Wayne, W.Va. SHERRI GAIL EPLIN, 56, of East Lynn, died from ovarian cancer and went home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, December 29, 2016. She was born on December 28, 1960, in Huntington. Sherri was the loving wife of Dwane E. Eplin and devoted mother to Christopher (Nicole) Eplin of Tarlton, Ohio, and J.R. (Jordyn) Eplin of Commercial Point, Ohio. She was a very proud and loving grandmother of two grandsons, Caleb and Colton Eplin, and one granddaughter, Kyla Eplin. Daughter of James and Marcella O'Lynn. Sister of Jimmy (Barb) O'Lynn. LESLIE RAY NELSON, 73, of Kenova, passed away Friday, December 30, 2016, at Cabell-Huntington Hospital. He was born March 23, 1943, in Lexington, Ky., son of the late Paul Ray and Frances Fortner Nelson. He was manager of car accounting with CSX Railroad. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by one sister, Janice Shelton, and one brother-in-law, Pat Shelton. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Terri D. Wentz (Chuck) of Proctorville, Ohio, and Lisa Rene Fischer (Dolf) of Grayson, Ky.; three grandchildren, Chuck Wentz, Travis Fischer and Joseph Fischer; one very special sister, June Hatten (James) of Kenova; and several nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends.
